I have this code for scraping team names from a table
$url = 'http://fantasy.premierleague.com/my-leagues/303/standings/';
$html = #file_get_html($url);
//Cut out the table
$FullTable = $html->find('table[class=ismStandingsTable]',0);
//get the text from the 3rd cell in the row
$teamname = $FullTable->find('td',2)->innertext;
echo $teamname;
This much works.. and gives this output....
Why Always Me?
But when I add these lines..
$teamdetails = $teamname->find('a')->href;
echo $teamdetails;
I get completely blank output.
Any idea why? I am trying to get the /entry/110291/event-history/33/ as one variable, and the Why Always Me? as another.
Instead do this:
$tdhtml = DOMDocument::loadHTML($teamdetails);
$link = $tdhtml->getElementsByTagName('a');
$url = $link->item(0)->attributes->getNamedItem('href')->nodeValue;
$teamdetails = $teamname->find('a')->href;
^^^^^^^^^---- never defined in your code
I also fail to see how your "works" code could possibly work. You don't define $teamname in there either, so all you'd never get is the output of a null/undefined variable, which is...no output all.
Marc B is right, I get that you don't have to initialize a variable, but he is saying you are trying to access a property of said variable:
$teamdetails = $teamname->find('a')->href;
^^^^^^^^^---- never defined in your code
This is essentially:
$teamname = null;
$teamname->find('a')->href;
The problem in your example is that $teamname is a string and you're treating it like a simple_html_dom_node

I have some php code that extracts a web address. The object I have extracted is of the form:
WEBSITE?flage=2&fgast=48&frat=1&sort=D&fsrc=2&wid=bf&page=1&id=16123012&source=searchresults
Now in PHP I have called this object $linkHREF
I want to extract the id element only and put it into an array (I'm bootstrapping this process to get multiple id's)
So the command is:
$detailPagePathArray = explode("id=",$linkHREF); #Array
Now the problem is the output of this includes what comes after the id tag, so the output looks like:
echo $detailPagePathArray[0] = WEBSITE?flage=2&fgast=48&frat=1&sort=D&fsrc=2&w
echo $detailPagePathArray[1] = bf&page=1&
echo $detailPagePathArray[2] = 16123012&source=searchresults
Now the problem is obvious, where it'd firstly picking up the "id" in the "wid" marker and cutting it there, however the secondary problem is it's also picking up all the material after the actual "id". I'm just interested in picking up "16123012".
Can you please explain how I can modify my explode command to point it to the particular marker I'm interested in?
Thanks.
Use the built-in functions provided for the purpose.
For example:
<?php
$url = 'http://www.example.com?flage=2&fgast=48&frat=1&sort=D&fsrc=2&wid=bf&page=1&id=16123012&source=searchresults';
$qs = parse_url($url);
parse_str($qs['query'], $vars);
$id = $vars['id'];
echo $id; // 16123012
?>
References:
parse_url()
parse_str()
if you are sure that you are getting &id=123456 only once in your object, then below
$linkHREF = "WEBSITE?flage=2&fgast=48&frat=1&sort=D&fsrc=2&wid=bf&page=1&id=16123012&source=searchresults";
$str = current(explode('&',end(explode('&id', $linkHREF,2))));
echo "id" .$str; //output id = 16123012
I know there are plenty of these, and that my PHP may be riddled with errors (I'm new to PHP), but I cant figure this one out.... it's citing the "function must be a string" error on line 11:
<?php
$dom=new DOMDocument();
$dom->formatOutput=true;
$dom->load('test.xml');
$searchItems=$dom->getElementsByTagName('title');
$voteItems=$dom->getElementsByTagName('vote');
for ($i=0; $i < $searchItems->length; $i++){
$value = $voteItems($i)->textContent;
$value++;
$name=$searchItems($i);
$xpath = new DOMXPath($dom);
$resulted = $xpath->query('div[#class="active"]');
$active= $div->$resulted->query('div[#class="content"]');
$names=$active->getAttribute('song');
preg_match($names, "i");
if(preg_match($names, $name )){
$voteItems($i)->length->textContent=$value;
$vote = voteItems($i)->length->textContent;
$results=array($name, $vote);
$txt=($name." scored: ".$vote." votes");
echo $txt;
}
}
?>
What this is doing, just in case there's a WAYYY better way to do this is, it checks and XML sheet I have that looks like this:
<playslist>
<song>
<source>imgs/Beck.jpg</source>
<title>Modern Guilt</title>
<artist>Beck</artist>
<vote>0</vote>
<plays>y</plays>
</song>
</playlist>
It checks for the title, and vote for each song, and stores those.
It then for each gets the value of the vote tag, adds one, then searches the HTML for the <div> with the class="active", and then searches that div with active and finds the inner div that has the class="content", then returns that div's "song" attribute.
I then have a preg match to check whether the name of the current "i" in the loop matches the string from the "song" attribute.
If it's a match, that "i"'s value will +1 to its value. It will then store that name value, and the new vote value as an array for me to check.
After that I'd like to save the XML sheet's new change. (otherwise I would've just kept this in JavaScript)
Any tips, hints, and help would be greatly appreciated! As a newbie to PHP I love to learn more!
$value = $voteItems($i)->textContent;
This is incorrect. You're trying to take $voteItems and use it as the name of a function.
PHP allows it:
function foo() {}
$name = "foo";
$name(); // calls foo()
However, that can only work if $name is a string. Here, $voteItems is a DOMNodeList, hence the error message.
From looking at the documentation, it seems like you meant to write:
$value = $voteItems->item($i)->textContent;

I have been attempting to use steam api to display a persons name. When I insert there steamid in directly it works however, when I try to use a variable it doesn't work. The thing that confuses me is that I have this exact same code for my queue that works however this does not work. I have looked around and I believe I am doing this right but for some reason it is not working. Any help here would be great. Thanks.
<?
$name = 76xxxxxxxxxxx;
$response = "http://api.steampowered.com/ISteamUser/GetPlayerSummaries/v0002/? key=xxx&steamids={$name}&format=json";
$middle = (file_get_contents($response));
$json = json_decode($middle, true);
$b = $json['response']['players'][0]['personaname'];
print_r($b);
?>
Your $name variable needs to be wrapped in quotes.
$name = "76xxxxxxxxxxx";
This will properly create your response variable
Depending on the current page, I would like to change the css of the chosen menu module and make others different, etc. All that while building dynamically the page before loading.
My problem is that I have a serie of variables going by this structure :
$css_(NAME_OF_MODULE)
To know what variable must be set , I have another variable I received in parameters of this functions, called
$chosen_menu
Say $chosen_Menu = "C1", I would like to add content to $css_C1. Thus, what I want is to create a variable name out of 2 variables, named $css_C1
I have tried :
${$css_.$chosen_menu} = "value";
But it doesnt seem to work. Any clue ?
That probably won't just work. PHP supports full indirection though, so something like this will work.
$varName = $css."_".$chosen_menu;
$$varName = "value";
If not, it will probably be attempting to interpret $css_ as a variable name in your second code sample, so just change that to $css."_".$chosen_menu.
$nr = 1;
${'name' . $nr} = 20 ;
var_dump($name1);
Check out http://php.net/manual/en/language.variables.php
You should be able to use:
$menu = $css . '_' .$chosen_menu;
$$menu = 'some value';
or
${$menu} = 'some value';
I'm not sure if I get you right, but how about this:
${$css."_".$chosen_menu} = "value";
I need to be able to remove a URL from a variable, I'm wondering how i do this.
Example - Say my script returns http://www.example.com/file.php?id=1234 i need to be able to remove the http://www.example.com/file.php?id= bit, just leaving the id number. If anyone can help, it would be great :)
Something like this?
$var = 'http://www.example.com/file.php?id=1234';
$query = parse_url($var, PHP_URL_QUERY);
$query_components = parse_str($query);
$id = $query_components['id'];
You can use regular expressions:
preg_match("/id=(\\d+)/", $url, $matches);
$id = $matches[1];
Just use $id = $_GET['id'];.
See the docs.
And don't forget to validate and sanitize.
The "id" in this case is being sent to your script as a GET variable, therefore you would access it as follows:
$id = $_GET['id'];
If you mean to say that this URL is not yours to control, then you would do this instead:
print_r(parse_url($url)); // Then analyze the output.
