i want to know how to check the filename in folder with some condition.
for example :
the folder name is "output"
this folder containing the following the images.
2323a.Png
5235v.Jpeg
2323s.jpg
23523s.JPEG
etc..,
if i check the file name is "2323a.png" but there is file name is 2323a.Png.
how to i check the filename is incasesensitive.
thanks in advance
Imho you have to read the directory contents
function file_exists_ignore_case($path) {
$dirname = dirname($path);
$filename = basename($path);
$dir = dir($dirname);
while (($file = $dir->read()) !== false) {
if (strtolower($file) == strtolower($filename)) {
$dir->close();
return true;
}
}
$dir->close();
return false;
}
Use strtolower on your filenames to check if they exist.
if(strtolower($filename) === '2323a.png')

I want to delete files in a specific directory in PHP. How can I achieve this?
I have the following code but it does not delete the files.
$files = array();
$dir = dir('files');
while ($file = $dir->read()) {
if ($file != '.' && $file != '..') {
$files[] = $file;
}
unlink($file);
}
I think your question isn't specific, this code must clear all files in the directory 'files'.
But there are some errors in that code I think, and here is the right code:
$files= array();
$dir = dir('files');
while (($file = $dir->read()) !== false) { // You must supply a condition to avoid infinite looping
if ($file != '.' && $file != '..') {
$files[] = $file; // In this array you push the valid files in the provided directory, which are not (. , ..)
}
unlink('files/'.$file); // This must remove the file in the queue
}
And finally make sure that you provided the right path to dir().
You can get all directory contents with glob and check if the value is a file with is_file() before unlinking it.
$files = glob('files/*'); // get directory contents
foreach ($files as $file) { // iterate files
// Check if file
if (is_file($file)) {
unlink($file); // delete file
}
}
If you want to remove files matching a pattern like .png or .jpg, you have to use
$files = glob('/tmp/*.{png,jpg}', GLOB_BRACE);
See manual for glob.
Hi I wonder if it is possible to match a string to a file from folder using php.
For example I have a folder called uploads and inside, I have different files like image1.png, image2.jpg, doc1.doc, and doc2.pdf.
Assuming I have this code on my php file:
<?php
$string = "image2";
// I need some function to display the image2 on my webpage.
// If string "image2" is found in the uploads folder
// then it should display the image
?>
Thanks!
I think this one should do what you want
$dir = "uploads";//the path to your folder
if(file_exists($dir)){
if ($dh = opendir($dir)) {
while (($file = readdir($dh)) !== false) {
if (!is_dir($file)) {
if ($file == "image2"){
// your code
}
}
}
}
}
I have a folder 'items' in which there are 3 files item1.txt, item2.txt and item3.txt.
I want to delete item2.txt file from folder. I am using the below code but it not deleting a file from folder. Can any body help me in that.
<?php
$data="item2.txt";
$dir = "items";
$dirHandle = opendir($dir);
while ($file = readdir($dirHandle)) {
if($file==$data) {
unlink($file);
}
}
closedir($dirHandle);
?>
Initially the folder should have 777 permissions
$data = "item2.txt";
$dir = "items";
while ($file = readdir($dirHandle)) {
if ($file==$data) {
unlink($dir.'/'.$file);
}
}
or try
$path = $_SERVER['DOCUMENT_ROOT'].'items/item2.txt';
unlink($path);
No need of while loop here for just deleting a file, you have to pass path of that file to unlink() function, as shown below.
$file_to_delete = 'items/item2.txt';
unlink($file_to_delete);
Please read details of unlink() function
http://php.net/manual/en/function.unlink.php
There is one bug in your code, you haven't given the correct path
<?php
$data="item2.txt";
$dir = "items";
$dirHandle = opendir($dir);
while ($file = readdir($dirHandle)) {
if($file==$data) {
unlink($dir."/".$file);//give correct path,
}
}
closedir($dirHandle);
?>
unlink
if($file==$data) {
unlink( $dir .'/'. $file);
}
It's very simple:
$file='a.txt';
if(unlink($file))
{
echo "file named $file has been deleted successfully";
}
else
{
echo "file is not deleted";
}
//if file is in other folder then do as follows
unlink("foldername/".$file);
try renaming it to the trash or a temp folder that the server have access **UNLESS IT'S sensitive data.
rename($old, $new) or die("Unable to rename $old to $new.");
Have the following script.
<?php
if ($handle = opendir('files/')) {
while (false !== ($fileName = readdir($handle))) {
$newName = str_replace("SKU#","",$fileName);
rename(fileName, $newName);
}
closedir($handle); } ?>
my script is in the root directory of iss.
inetpub/wwwroot
And I am trying to as a result access the folder files/, which is one level up to wwwroot. Where contains one image called:
"WV1716BNSKU#.zoom.1"
I am using a windows OS, any idea why this is not working, code looks file.
What error do you get? Make sure PHP is setup to display all errors.
Your script will also have to be in the same folder as your files you want to rename as all your paths are relative.
Try this:
if ($handle = opendir('./')){
while (false !== ($fileName = readdir($handle))){
$newName = str_replace("SKU#", "", $fileName);
rename($fileName, $newName);
}
closedir($handle);
}
Suppose I have a directory look like:
ABC
|_ a1.txt
|_ a2.txt
|_ a3.txt
|_ a4.txt
|_ a5.txt
How can I use PHP to get these file names to an array, limited to a specific file extension and ignoring directories?
You can use the glob() function:
Example 01:
<?php
// read all files inside the given directory
// limited to a specific file extension
$files = glob("./ABC/*.txt");
?>
Example 02:
<?php
// perform actions for each file found
foreach (glob("./ABC/*.txt") as $filename) {
echo "$filename size " . filesize($filename) . "\n";
}
?>
Example 03: Using RecursiveIteratorIterator
<?php
foreach(new RecursiveIteratorIterator( new RecursiveDirectoryIterator("../")) as $file) {
if (strtolower(substr($file, -4)) == ".txt") {
echo $file;
}
}
?>
Try this:
if ($handle = opendir('.')) {
$files=array();
while (false !== ($file = readdir($handle))) {
if(is_file($file)){
$files[]=$file;
}
}
closedir($handle);
}
scandir lists files and directories inside the specified path.
Here is the most Efficient way based on this article's benchmarks:
function getAllFiles() {
$files = array();
$dir = opendir('/ABC/');
while (($currentFile = readdir($dir)) !== false) {
if (endsWith($currentFile, '.txt'))
$files[] = $currentFile;
}
closedir($dir);
return $files;
}
function endsWith($haystack, $needle) {
return substr($haystack, -strlen($needle)) == $needle;
}
just use the getAllFiles() function, and you can even modify it to take the folder path and/or the extensions needed, it is easy.
Aside from scandir (#miku), you might also find glob interesting for wildcard matching.
If your text files is all that you have inside of the folder, the simplest way is to use scandir, like this:
<?php
$arr=scandir('ABC/');
?>
If you have other files, you should use glob as in Lawrence's answer.
$dir = "your folder url"; //give only url, it shows all folder data
if (is_dir($dir)){
if ($dh = opendir($dir)){
while (($file = readdir($dh)) !== false){
if($file != '.' and $file != '..'){
echo $file .'<br>';
}
}
closedir($dh);
}
}
output:
xyz
abc
2017
