Passing data from PHP class to PHPExcel via AJAX - php

i got stuck with OOP PHP and json data. i'm not completely new to OOP, but i can't get my head around this. if anyone can please explain to me, would be great!
i have the following grid object in PHP:
Class Grid {
var $data;
var $joins;
var $fields;
var $where;
var $table;
var $groupBy;
var $having;
var $limit;
var $order_by;
var $sort;
var $security;
var $set;
var $sql;
....
// loads data into the grid
function load() {
...
// setup the sql - bring it all together
$sql = "
SELECT $post[cols]
FROM `$table`
$joins
$where
$groupBy
$having
ORDER BY $order_by $sort
$limit
";
$this->sql = $sql;
// execute the sql, get back a multi dimensial array
$rows = $this->_queryMulti($sql);
// form an array of the data to send back
$data = array();
$data['rows'] = array();
foreach($rows as $i=>$row) {
foreach($row as $col=>$cell) {
// use primary key if possible, other wise use index
$key = $primaryKey ? $row[$primaryKey] : $i;
// primary key has an _ infront becuase of google chrome re ordering JSON objects
//http://code.google.com/p/v8/issues/detail?id=164
$data['rows']["_".$key][$col] = $cell;
}
}
...
$data['order_by'] = $order_by;
$data['sort'] = $sort;
$data['page'] = $page;
$data['start'] = $startRow + 1;
$data['end'] = $startRow + $nRowsShowing;
$data['colData'] = $colData;
$this->data = $data;
}
and it's called by AJAX callgrid.php:
$grid->load();
// here we need to add field in data[sql] = sql query, then we can pass it to toExcel() - how?
echo json_encode($grid->data);
what i'm trying to get is to be able to export current sql query (it can be all or searched results) into Excel using PHPExcel. So i've got toExcel.php with function toexcel($query) - that will take a query and export it to excel.
now - HOW do i pass sql query from grid to toexcel via AJAX?
I understand that i need to add to $data():
$data['sql'] = $sql;
what next?
UPDATE:
I'm using the following jquery grid:
http://square-bracket.com/openjs
I understand that PHPExcel should be initiated either by grid or jquery

A general idea of what you could do:
Create a button e.g.
export to Excel
Then in jquery you have to create something like:
var grid = $(".grid.digital_edit").loadGrid({...}); //or similar - what you did to load the data into the grid
$('#export').click(function() {
$.ajax({
url: "export_to_excel.php", // the url of the php file that will generate the excel file
data: grid.getData(), //or similar - based on the grid's API
success: function(response){
window.location.href = response.url;
}
})
});
The file export_to_excel.php will contain the code that generates the excel file:
This is where you'll initiate the PHPExcel class and create a file e.g. new_excel.xls
In your response array the $response['url'] will contain the absolute url to the newly created file. (http://www.example.com/files/new_excel.xls)
It may sound too complex, but try to separate your goals and achieve one at a time. E.g.
Create the button.
Then try to make a simple AJAX call when hitting the button.
Then create your export_to_excel.php file and try to work with the PHPExcel class.
Create a sample excel file based on the tutorials found.
Create an excel file based on your own data, but hard-coded in the php file.
Create the correct AJAX call that sends the wanted data to a php file.
Catch the correct AJAX call.
Pass the data from the AJAX call to the PHPExcel class.
Create the excel file.
Send back the url to the excel file.
Redirect the user to the url of the excel file.
EDIT
To help you a bit more: You need only one PHP script/file. The same one will receive the AJAX call from the javascript file, will generate the excel file and will return/respond the file url to the javascript file(in that order). A simplified example would be:
<?php
//export_to_excel.php
$data = $_POST['data']; // get the data from the AJAX call - it's the "data: grid.getData()" line from above
//... format the received data properly for the PHPExcel class
// later on in the same file:
$xls = new PHPExcel();
$xls->loadData($formattedData); //I assume that there is a similar loadData() method
$xls->exportToFile('/vaw/www/example.com/public/files/new_excel.xls'); // I assume that there is an exportToFile() method
$response = array(
'success' => true,
'url' => 'http://www.example.com/files/new_excel.xls'
);
header('Content-type: application/json');
// and in the end you respond back to javascript the file location
echo json_encode($response);
And then in javascript you display the file with this line
window.location.href = response.url; //response.url is $response['url'] from the PHP script

POST Ajax data to public PHP function

NOTE - This is a edited snippet. This is testing at the moment and will be improved after.
I'm aiming to learn oop PHP now I got a good understanding of procedural. I'm stuck on sending this Ajax request to my php file.
Html File
<script>
$("#Question").click(function() {
flag = 1;
uid = "<?php echo $uid ?>";
var dataQuestion = {
uid,
flag,
ImageOne: $("#Image1").val()
};
//Post with AJAX
$.ajax({
type: "POST",
url: "../View/class.user.php",
data: dataQuestion,
perform: "QuestionsFunctions",
success: function(Returned){
$(".NotBoxSmall").text("Updated");
$(".NotBox").text("Updated");
flag = 0;
console.log(Returned);
},
error: function(){
$('.NotBox').text("Issue With Site");
$('.NotBoxSmall').text("Issue With Site");
}
});
});
</script>
Php file
<?php
public function QAsk(){
if($_POST['flag'] == 1){
$Image1 = $_POST['ImageOne'];
$uid = $_POST['uid'];
$insertsqlQ = "UPDATE UsersData
SET Image1 = '$Image1'
WHERE uid = $uid";
$resultquestion = mysqli_query($this->db,$insertsqlQ) or die(mysqli_connect_errno().json_encode("Data cannot inserted"));
return $resultquestion;
echo json_encode("Question Updated");
}else{
echo json_encode("Question NOPE");
return false;
}
}
?>
The id sends and iv'e tested this not within the public function and it appears to be fine. The request send back is blank, outside of the function it's the error log.
The issue is it says questions have been updated but no data has been added to the database.
jQuery must be initialized after the DOM ( document object model ).
How should I initialize jQuery?
I'd suggest some tips:
1 - Make the id names lower case #name_of_element
2 - Grab a OO PHP book and try to practice just this, run tests using curl for instance and make your database rules work before going into the client (html, js, css)
3 - Grab a jQuery book and run tests with mock data just printing a array from PHP. At the beginning is easier study stuff separated.
4 - '$Image1' is a varchar rather than the variable $Image1. Remove the quotes

JavaScript PHP HighChart transform a PHP array to a javascript array

I saw other posts but it doesn't work. I am a bit confused here on how I implement an array into JS from PHP...
In the PHP file (test.php) I have :
$table = array();
while($row = mysqli_fetch_assoc($result) )
{
$value=$row['value'];
$date=$row['date'];
$table[$value]=$date;
}
And in JavaScript I have :
<?php include 'test.php'; ?>
...
data: (function() {
// generate an array of random data
var data = [],
time = (new Date()).getTime(),
i;
for (i = -19; i <= 0; i++) {
data.push({
x: time + i * 1000,
y: Math.random()
});
}
return data;
So what I look for is to put $value=$row['value']; in the y : and $date=$row['date']; in the x : OR perhaps putting the entire table $table in the var data will work also .
I'm new to JavaScript, so thanks in advance..!
So in your php file....
Add a line at the bottom that converts the table to json data.
And give it a variable...
$table = array();
while($row = mysqli_fetch_assoc($result) )
{
$value=$row['value'];
$date=$row['date'];
$table[$value]=$date;
}
$jsondata = json_encode($table);
Then in your other file....
echo that variable into your data object, in the javascript.
Remember to remove that whole random number generating function...(its just an example)
Echoing PHP into javascript is definitely not considered good practice though.
And it would be better to actually do an ajax call to your php file, and insert like that....I'll also show you how to do ajax.
<?php include 'test.php'; ?>
...
data: [<?php echo $jsondata;?>], //remove that function that was here..
// it was just to generate random numbers for the demo
....
}
EDIT / UPDATE For ajax...
So for ajax...instead of assigning a variable to $jsondata.
Just return it like so...(in your PHP file)
return json_encode($table);
Then for this way....you dont include('test.php') like you did before.
Instead you just have this script inside your $(document).ready(function(){....
$.getJSON('test.php', function(myJSON) {
//and inside this function you put your highcharts stuff...
//remove that function() that generates random data
// And you will put the 'myJSON' return object inside the 'data':[] array...
// Provided you have structured your data correctly for highcharts, it should work...
// If not.... it'll be a start, and you're well on your way to debugging it
}

calling php and javascript functions with one button

This is what I'm trying to achieve, but my Googling hasn't helped:
I have a button that adds a new row to a table dynamically. I also add a select component to a cell with the same action all in javascript. I'd like for that select component to populate with values from a sql select statement. Of course I don't want to define the connection to the DB in the JavaScript. So I was wondering if there was a way I could call a PHP function to retrieve the values then store it in variable within JavaScript.
PS I understand that PHP is server side as opposed to JS. But surely this is possible.
here's a simple implementation of such a thing using jQuery's ajax and php.
html
<select data-source-url="/category/list"></select>
javascript using jQuery
$("select[data-source-url]").each(function(){
var url = $(this).attr("data-source-url");
var el = $(this);
$.get(url, function(data){
for (i=0;i<data.length;i++){
el.append("<option>" + data[i] + "</option>");
}
},"json");
});
category/list endpoint (a php script)
$list = array();
$list[0] = "category 1";
$list[1] = "category 2";
$list[2] = "category 3";
$list[3] = "category 4";
$list[4] = "category 5";
echo json_encode($list);
a little explanation: what happens is a request being made via the JavaScript client to a php script, which returns an array of values in JSON (which is basically a javascript data-structure), those values are added to the select box dynamically.
Please note that on initial load of the page, the select box will be empty.
yes ofcourse you can. for storing s php variable in a js ariable you can do like this.
before storing it into js variable store the required value in your php variable
var value = '<?php echo $value;?>';
Javascript cannot connect directly to a database.
You want AJAX. A basic flow for this functionality looks like this.
Create a PHP script that connects to the database and gets the options for your select element (let's call it options.php). This script should fetch the options from the database and output them as a JSON array.
In your javascript, you would create an ajax request to options.php. With the JSON data returned from that script, you would loop over each element and create and append a corresponding option element to the dom inside of your select element.
Also consider using jQuery. It greatly simplifies ajax and provides a cross-browser solution.
Option 1
Pass a php array with all possible values to the client side using something like this on the client side:
var opt_values = [<?php echo $php_values; ?>]; //javascript array
or
var opt_values = <?php echo json_encode($php_values); ?>; //json object
Option 2
Another way is making an ajax request. Write a php function that return a JSON object and then you can manipulate the result using jQuery ajax method:
PHP function:
$json = array();
$result = mysqli_query ($connection, $query);
while($row = mysqli_fetch_array ($result))
{
$bus = array(
'id' => $row['id'],
'text' => $row['name']
);
array_push($json, $bus);
}
return = json_encode($json)
Jquery
$('#button-id').click(function(){
//adds a new row to a table dynamically
$.ajax({
type: "get",
dataType: "json",
url: "/get_values.php",
success: function (response) {
var $el = $("#myselect"); //get the select
$el.empty(); // remove old options
//Append the new values
$.each(response, function(key, value) {
$el.append($("<option></option>")
.attr("value", value.id).text(value.text));
});
}
});
});
Just thought i'd put it out there since w3schools is my friend and i kinda follow what they're saying in this post.

How to save a file to the server by pressing a button in Javascript

Ok so I'm experimenting with the in HTML5 and have made a simple "paint" application in Javascript to draw where the user's mouse is on the screen. Works fine.
I then wanted to save the coordinates to a file. My program already had an array of the x coordinates and an array of the y coordinates from the Javascript code.
When the user presses a button, the onClick calls a function in the Javascript, which using jQuery, as in the Top Answer here How to get JavaScript function data into a PHP variable attempts to pass this into a php file to save.
However it isn't working. Should I be passing the data back into the original php document that contains the canvas? If so how do I then get it to do the code to save as the PHP is run when the document is loaded no?
CODE:
Ok this is in the original php file which contains the HTMl for the webpage including the canvas. Here's the relevant save button:
<button type="button" onclick="saveDrawing()" id="saveButton">Save</button>
This calls the following in a separate JS file
function saveDrawing(){
// First check that not drawing and have data
if (!readyToDraw && clickX!=null){
// If ready then pass back to the PHP file the data
$url = 'file_save_test.php';
$.get($url, {x_coords: getXCoords(), y_coords: getYCoords()});
}
else {
alert("Please add some coordinate points and press Finish before saving");
}
}
and file_save_test.php contains only the following
<?php
// retrieve data from the JS
$buffer_data['x_coords'] = $_GET['x_coords'];
$buffer_data['y_coords'] = $_GET['y_coords'];
$x_s = $_GET['x_coords'];
$y_s = $_GET['y_coords'];
// first want to open a file
$file_name = "data_test.txt";
$file_handler = fopen($file_name, 'w');
// now to loop through arrays and write!
/*for ($i = 0; $i < sizeof($x_s); i++){
fwrite($file_handler, "$x_s[i], ");
fwrite($file_handler, "$y_s[i]\n");
} */
fclose($file_handler);
?>
In your PHP file it looks like your fwrite code is commented out. Are you expecting it to write to that data_test.txt file? Try changing your PHP file to print the results and have it echoed back to your javascript to see if the data is getting communicated properly.
$.get($url, {x_coords: getXCoords(), y_coords: getYCoords()},
function(data){
alert("Data Loaded: " + data);
});
PHP
print_r($_GET);
EDIT
Change your PHP file to something like this if it's alerting the data properly (it should append the coords to your file):
<?php
// retrieve data from the JS
$x_s = $_GET['x_coords'];
$y_s = $_GET['y_coords'];
$file_name = "data_test.txt";
$file_handler = fopen($file_name, 'a');
fwrite($file_handler, "$x_s, $y_s \n");
fclose($file_handler);
?>
EDIT 2
Update your for loop to your original code
for ($i = 0; $i < count($x_s); $i++){
fwrite($file_handler, $x_s[$i] . ", ". $y_s[$i] . "\n");
}
What I would do is have your save button call jQuery's $.post() method. Post the data to another PHP file that either inserts it into a database or saves it as a file. I don't recommend using the original document to post the data to because the client would have to download the entire DOM and the server would run any other code that you don't need.
That's as much as I can really help you without seeing any of your code.
I would send the data into a new php script called saveCoords.php or something..
You say you already have the coordinates in a JavaScript array, so it would look something like this...
//JAVASCRIPT FUNCTION which will request php file to store info
function storeCoords(xCoordArray, yCoordArray){
var xCoords = JSON.stringify(xCoordArray);
var yCoords = JSON.stringigy(yCoordArray);
var request = new XMLttpRequest(); //will need to change for older ie
request.onreadystatechange = function(){
//functions to handle returning information from php file..
}
request.open("GET","saveCoords.php?xCoords="+xCoords+"&yCoords="+yCoords, true);
request.send();
}
And then saveCoords.php file would look something like this:
<?php
$xCoords = json_decode($_GET['xCoords']);
$yCoords = json_decode($_GET['yCoords']);
//now you have a php array of xCoords and yCoords, which you can store
?>
Thats a skeleton but I think it hits on the major points, but comment with any questions.

Building dynamic poll with jquery, php and html

Okey, this is what I've got.
<?php
$options[1] = 'jQuery';
$options[2] = 'Ext JS';
$options[3] = 'Dojo';
$options[4] = 'Prototype';
$options[5] = 'YUI';
$options[6] = 'mootools';
That is my array, but I'd like to make it a bit more dynamic so that the array is built according to input id, so he won't have to change the php-code whenever he want's another poll. How would I import those input id's and push them into an array?
To the extent I can understand your question, you could use JSON to pass the data from the client to the server like this:
JAVASCRIPT (using jQuery):
var arr = [];
arr.push("option1");
arr.push("option2"); // and so on..
//Use AJAX to send the data across ..
$.ajax({
url: 'poll.php?jsondata=' + encodeURIComponent(JSON.stringify(arr)),
success: function(data) {
// response..
}
});
});
I think that PHP script will put those options into a database or something for using it later on.
Now, in PHP(poll.php):
<?php
$options = json_decode($_GET['jsondata']);
//...
?>
