My code is below. I have an array, and by using this array I fill the database table. If some id exists in table, I update its row, if id doesn't exist than I create row and write data to row.
I empty my table and then run this code:
$arrayOfIds=array('1234', '5678');

Result is echoed to screen:
1234 not exists

When I check table, 2 rows (twitter_user_id =1234 and twitter_user_id =5678) was added to table.
When I re-run my code with two entries in table, I also get this response:
1234 not exists
5678 exists
Do I miss something?
i think that exists() function is working not like you are thinking it must be :)
i would change this line:
if ($this->ModelName->exists()) {
to something like this:
if ($this->ModelName->find()) {
and if its not working as needed, add some condition to find function.. about your twitter_user_id

I'm using codeigniter.
I'm trying to compare some posted values from a form with entries from a database.
Put simply, i want to check to see if the entry is already in the database, if so ignore the posted data, but if there is no database entry then add to the database.
My thinking was that it shouldn't actually be that hard, but having some issues, and now im completely confused. Any pointers in the right direction would be appreciated.
I have an array coming from POST $assigned_ids
And i want to compare that with the data from $assign_data which is being output from the database.
I've been trying foreach loops, looping over the posted data, and then inside that looping through the database and comparing and adding if neccessary.
It works upto a point, but if there is data coming from the database, its adding multiple entires.
Heres my code, surely im over complicating things?

I think your main issue is your array is not properly structured that's why your having a hard time.
My opinion is to predefined your db result after fetching it.
function getAssignedData(){
// its better to get the only field you'll need than to fetch everything

$existing_ids[] = $row->$field;

And you can already compare the values like this

My code is pretty basic. I'm using an array to generate a datasheet for a product based on it's SKU and a filepath.
My array looks like this:

Where the first Key is the filepath, and the second Key is the SKU (as generated by the system) I then use an if/else to generate a button - so if a product is not in the array it returns a blank value and doesn't have a button which leads to nowhere

This code works fine. The catch comes when I have products with different SKUs but the same datasheet file, (same brand and make but a different model). Currently I can only get it to work by uploading multiple copies of the datasheets with different names, but it's becoming a big waste of space.
I have tried using an array as a key to hold multiple values to the one key..
"/images/ManualSheets/factSheetMEDIUM.pdf"=> array("KE8000/12","KE7000/12"),
but it doesn't seem to be working... I'm not quite sure if I need to refine my if statement to search within the sub arrays as well or..?

You should use arrays like this:
$products = array(
0 => array(
"pdf" => "/images/ManualSheets/factSheetCLASSIC.pdf",
"skus" => array("KE800/6","KE900/6")
),
1 => array(
"pdf" => "/images/ManualSheets/factSheetCLASSIC3.pdf",
"skus" => array("KE100/6","KE200/6"))
);
This is because array_search returns just first row whit that key.
Then just do your own search function like:
function findBySku($items, $sku) {
$pdf = ""; // return empty if not found.
foreach($items as $row) {
if (in_array($sku, $row['skus'])) {
$pdf = $row['pdf'];
break;
}
}
return $pdf;
}
and call that function:
$pdf = findBySku($products, "some sku");
I have two rows in one of my tables which look like:
id product_id target_product_id description type
1 206587 456 sdfgdfgdfg 0
2 456 206587 fgdgfhghfgfdsgfdghfghfsd 0
When viewing the model for the row with id 1 I wish to get the second row based on where the product_id and the target_product_id are inversed. So I made a relation of:

'on'=>'linked_product_relation.target_product_id = product_id
AND link_product_relation.product_id = target_product_id')
However, it seems to only ever return null. I have checked that link_product_relation links to the table, and I get no SQL error, just a null return. If I use the relation with only link_product_relation.product_id = product_id though I do actually get a response, but only the row I am currently looking at. I seem to be missing something.
How can I get my desired output?

When I add a function to replace the relation:

You did not specify a foreign key ('' in your code). Try something like this:

I have code like this:
$this->db->select('title')->from('entries')->where('id', 1);
$query = $this->db->get();
echo $query->row('title');
Which echoes the title from the entries table where the id is equal to 1.
Why doesn't it work without the 'title in row function?
echo $query->row();
As it returns the first row?
Why do I have to have 'title' in both places ($query->row and $this->db->select), in order for this to work? It doesn't make sense to me.
Can anybody explain how this works, supposedly provide with alternative ways to get the value from the database?

Generates
SELECT title FROM entries WHERE id = 1
$query retrieves the result in an array:
array( [0] => array( [title] => 'your title' ))
row('title') returns the title column from the first row of your result array.
The reason you need to tell it which column to get is because row and get can be used with many columns.
I have a MySQL table that contains the following columns:
id : title : message : date
1 : blah : blah : 27/12/2012
And I have queried it and stored it in an array. How do I get the individual columns if a certain ID. For example, I want to get the row where ID = 1 and get the title, message etc. And then I want row 2 and row 3. How do I get the information out of an array. Like
$array[1]["date"]; ( I tried it and it never worked)
You basicly need to fetch the result as a associative array and loop through all the results. All your results will be in the form of
array(
'id' => 1,
'title' => 'blah',
'message' => 'blah',
'date' => '27/12/2012'
);

$array = array();
while ($row = fetch_assoc($result)) { // use your favorite fetch method here
$array[$row['id']] = $row;
