Show another page when using blockUI plugin - php

I would like to get the content of a php file on the click event of an element while blocking the ui by using this plugin. My code is this:
<li onclick="$.blockUI({ message: $.get('page.php') });" />
this does block the UI, but nothing else happens. Does the jQuery get function return the contents of that file? Should I use another function for this purpose?

What you might be looking to do would be the following:
<li onclick="javascript:showMessage();"></li>
<script type="text/javascript">
function showMessage() {
$.get('page.php', function(html) {
$.blockUI({ message: html });
});
}
</script>
Though if your page.php takes a moment or two to build, blockUI won't fire until it does.
Also, I've had mixed results with putting complex commands in an onclick or href, so I've found it more reliable to call a function.

jQuery toggle function stops working after AJAX HTML data load

I have a simple PHP file with some HTML (got a list in the form of UL>LI>UL>LI, which uses the toggle() function. The function opens the ULs and shows or hides the LIs). The page also has an input form that works correctly (adds data to the database).
Once the AJAX form has been successful, I delete the entire div and reprint it from the database.
My problem: once the new page is printed, the toggle() function stops working until the page is refreshed.
The toggle function (in external JavaScript file):
$(document).ready(function() {
$(".product_category").click(function(event) {
event.preventDefault();
$(this).find("ul > .product").toggle();
});
});
The form:
<form id="addPForm">
<section id="product_input">
<input id="list_add_product" type="text" placeholder="Add a new product" onkeyup="checkProducts()">
<input id="list_add_product_button" type="button">
</section>
</form>
The form sending function:
$("#list_add_product_button").click(function(event){
var txt=$("#list_add_product").val();
$.ajax({
type: "POST",
url: "addproduct2.php",
cache: false,
data: {product: txt},
success: onSuccess,
error: onError
});
// IF THE SUBMIT WAS SUCCESFULL //
function onSuccess(data, status)
{
console.log(data);
clearInput();
$('#main_list').empty();
$('#main_list').html(data);
}
function onError(data,status){
// something
}
});
What I get printed in the console.log(data):
<div class="product_category"><li id="baked" onclick="showBakedList();"><a class="list_text" id="baked_text">Baked [2]</a></li><ul id="ul_baked" class="inner_list"><li class="product" id="bread"><a class="liText">Bread | 0 Unit</a> </li><li class="product" id="croissant"><a class="liText">Croissant | 0 Unit</a> </li></ul>
Now, the toggle() function works great before I add a product. The lists opens and closes without any problems. I do not get any errors in the console and I load jQuery in the page head (first item).
I would like to note that looking at the source code before and after the code print looks exactly the same, except the new additional LI that is printed.
Am I missing something? Do jQuery functions stop working after a div data refresh?
If your element is been removed after click event binding, it will not call the event handler function.
Use $.on() insted of .click():
$(document).on('click', '.product_category', function(event) {
// Your function here
}
Explained:
$(".product_category").click() binda a function to the .product_category elements at that moment. If one or all elements are removed, then the event bind also will be removed.
$(document).on() will bind an event to entire document, and will filter every click to check if the click occurred in a '.product_category' element.
Try this:
$(document).ready(function() {
checkForDOMElements();
});
And a function...
function checkForDOMElements(){
$(".product_category").click(function(event) {
event.preventDefault();
$(this).find("ul > .product").toggle();
});
}
In your AJAX request, after success add:
checkForDOMElements();
Does this work for you?
The main problem is this:
When you load page you have one DOM tree with all elements. Javascript save this DOM. After this you remove all elements from DOM tree and load new. But for javascript the elements are only removed and js can't detect new elements for your toogle() function..
You have to reload javascript function to refresh new DOM tree (new HTML) with new elements.
I found this solution while having the exact same problem. I am building a complex webtool that uses Ajax/JSON that contains HTML with JS events built into the JSON.
To be more fine grained on the calls, I wrapped each specific JS event that had to do with the specific Ajax/JSON HTML replace and call it on load as well as after the AJAX success.
If there is a more "up to date" way of doing this, I would love to hear about it, but this worked GREAT for me.

running a php code from a link without redirection

I want to execute a php code when a user click on a given link , i've tried the following code
<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
<head>
<script type="text/javascript" src="jquery.min.js"></script>
<script type="text/javascript">
function doSomething() {
$.get("up.php");
return false;
}
</script>
</head>
<body>
<center>
Click Me!
</center>
</body>
</html>
where up.php is a php code that implement android GCM mechanism similer to the one in the link : GCM with PHP (Google Cloud Messaging)
but unfortunately when the link is clicked nothing happens , the php code not executed ,and only the url of the page change form *****.com/test.html to *****.com/test.html# , and by the way I've tested the php code and its works fine so it is not a problem in php code , so what i have missed here? why the code is not executed?
i found the solution , the problem that the jquery library is not included probably in my code
you are using jquery. $.get() will be something like below.
$.get('ajax/test.html', function(data) {
$('.result').html(data);
alert('Load was performed.');
});
for further help check http://api.jquery.com/jQuery.get/
Sometimes, you may need to call some JavaScript from within a link. Normally, when user click on a link, the browser loads a new page (or refreshes the same page).
This might not always be desirable. For example, you might only want to dynamically update a form field when the user clicks a link.
To prevent the load from refreshing, you could use the JavaScript void() function and pass a parameter of 0 (zero) as below.
<a href="JavaScript:void(0);" onclick="return doSomething(); " />Click Me!</a>
Now if you want to use href="#", make sure onclick always contains return false; at the end.
OR
Use href="javascript:void(0)"
You can also use jQuery Load
function doSomething() {
$('#result').load('up.php', function() {
alert('Load was performed.');
});
}
When you are using Jquery should be :
function doSomething(){
$.get('up.php', function(data) {
$('.data').html(data);
});
}
Link
To stop page refreshing, you can use the javascript void() function and pass parameter of 0.
Click Me!
<div class="data"></div>
This div is used to display up.php result.
Ok start of by using fire bug and watch the console and network panels
Ensure the browser is trying to get something and not returning a 404 or a php error on the get
Look into prevent default http://api.jquery.com/event.preventDefault/
To stop the original link functionality working
If you still want them to move to the link use a window location or...
Look into bootstrap link buttons
http://twitter.github.com/bootstrap/base-css.html#buttons
( the link button )

jQuery.get() - How do I use the entire result?

I read this question, and I'm pretty sure it's 90% of what I need, but I'm after something more than just this, and my success formulating my query in Google has been less than stellar.
What I'd like to do
I have a form on a site that, when submitted, needs to connect with a database, and then the user needs to be apprised of the result. I'm trying to get the result page to load in a modal jQuery dialog instead of forcing a full page reload. At present, I'm just trying to create a jQuery dialog that replaces the contents of a <div> with the product of a PHP file. I know I will get the PHP file's execution result this way. That's what I'm after, but it currently is not working.
My code currently looks like this:
$(document).ready(function() {
$("#dialog").get('include.php', function(data) {
$("div#dialog").html(data);
});
});
And include.php is simply:
<?
echo "<h1>Loaded</h1>";
?>
When I load the page, the original contents of #dialog are still there. I have a strong suspicion that what I'm failing to grasp isn't major, but I've had bad luck finding the fix. I'm a web dev newbie. How do I wwebsite as on the internet?
You are calling get on a jQuery result. That'a a different method than $.get, the one you should be using:
$(document).ready(function() {
$.get('include.php', function(data) {
$("div#dialog").html(data);
});
});
i have been using Ajax call for the same purpose. So try this :
$(document).ready(function() {
$.ajax('include.php',
success : function(data) {
$("#dialog").html(data);
});
});
If you want to replace the entire contents of the #dialog DOM object with the HTML you load, then you probably want to use .load():
$(document).ready(function() {
$("#dialog").load('include.php', function(data) {
// no need to set the html here as .load() already does that
});
});

AJAX blocking Javascript

Consider the following code:
<script src="js/backgroundChanger.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
<script>
$(document).ready(function() {
$('.Themes').click(function(){
$('#dcontent').load('printThumbs.php');
});
});
</script>
The first script is for background changing logic and the second script gives list of thumbnails of the themes. The problem is that the first script doesn't work beacause of the second. If I don't use this AJAX technique everything works fine. Working code:
<script src="js/backgroundChanger.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
<div id="dcontent">
<?php include('printThumbs.php'); printThemesThumbs();?>
</div>
The background changing logic looks like:
$(function() {
$('.themes li a img').click(function() {//code
});
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
in your first snippet of the code you defined a click function on .Theme and in the third snippet of the code .theme, is this correct?, i mean both classes seems to be different try to use the same class name return by your php function.
You're calling $(document).ready() twice, as $() is an alias, and the second definition is overwriting the first. First you are setting the document ready callback to
function() {
$('.themes li a img').click(function() {//code
}
and then overwriting it with
function() {
$('.Themes').click(function(){
$('#dcontent').load('printThumbs.php');
});
}
you have to add your second code in a callback function. you can't bind something if it is not already in the dom. if you want to make changes to the printThumbs output you need to add a callback...
<script>
$(document).ready(function() {//this is also a callback function when document is ready
$('.Themes').click(function(){//this can be understand as a call back too... code is fired after a click
$('#dcontent').load('printThumbs.php',function(){/*your callback code here...this code will be fired after you've loaded printThumbs*/}
});
});
</script>
if you want to do some jquery or other client side stuff on the respons of an ajax call (html,xml, json or whatever) you have to specify a callback function. to make things less complicated you have to look at the callback function just as the on document ready function with the difference that the callback is applied to the respons of your ajax call. if the code is not in a callback function you can't manipulate the respons because it is not injected in the dom/it simply does not exists in your browser when the document is ready.

Loading dynamic external content into the Div of another on click

Trying to load an external php file into another onClick. Iframes will not work as the size of the content changes with collapsible panels. That leaves AJAX. I was given a piece of code
HTML
Get data
<div id="myContainer"></div>
JS
$('#getData').click(function(){
$.get('data.php', { section: 'mySection' }, function(data){
$('#myContainer').html(data);
});
});
PHP:
<?php
if($_GET['section'] === 'mySection') echo '<span style="font-weigth:bold;">Hello World</span>';
?>
I have tested it here http://www.divethegap.com/scuba-diving-programmes-dive-the-gap/programme-pages/dahab-divemaster/divemaster-trainingA.php and get the most unexpected results. It certainly loads the right amount of items as it says in the lower bar on safari but I see three small calendars and that is it. Can anyone see where I have made a mistake?
First things first, you want to have the jQuery bit inside the ready function $(document).ready(function(){..}. In your test page, there is already a ready function at the top which contains the line $('a[rel*=facebox]').facebox(), so you might want to put the code there.
Secondly, you want to prevent the link from going to the default action, which is to load the url '#'. You do that with the preventDefault() method.
I tested and confirmed that the following code should work for you:
<script type="text/javascript">
$(document).ready(function(){
$('#getData').click(function(event){
event.preventDefault();
$.get('test.php', { cat: 16 }, function(data){
$('#myContainer p').html(data);
});
});
});</script>
You can find more details and examples of jQuery's get function here.
