I am using rewriting in my .htaccess like this:
RewriteRule ^blog$ blog.php [L]
It works, that's cool (when I put www.something.com/blog, it get blog.php content), but I would love to avoid possible duplicates of my web.
So I want to redirect www.something.com/blog.php only to www.something.com/blog.
Add this new rule on top:
RewriteCond %{THE_REQUEST} \s/+(blog)\.php[\s?] [NC]
RewriteRule ^ /%1 [L,R]

But it is wrong to say "I don't need to edit any links". Because it is a method to correct the old links already referenced, not to prevent you from changing your code in your pages. Because HTML code still contains bad links...

Try replacing your .htaccess with
RewriteEngine On
RewriteRule ^category/(.*)$ /category.php?cat=$1 [L]
which will redirect yoursite.com/category/12 to yoursite.com/category.php?cat=12 internally, and the user will never see the "ugly" url. Then inside your category.php file you can access the cat by $category_id = $_GET['cat']
A simple anchor tag looks like this:

As Justin noted in that answer to a similar question, you need to confirm that htaccess files are enabled/allowed in your Apache configuration and that mod_rewrite is enabled.
Additionally, I am sure you are aware, but just in case you are not, after implementing this new htaccess redirect rule, you should change all of the links on your webpages to use clean/friendly URLs. By doing so, neither your users nor a search engine crawler will access the "ugly" URLs unless they access them directly (via a bookmark or a saved link).
I have one project online and it on two diffrent domains 1)www.example.com and 2)www.example.co.in. now, I want to redirect
www.example.co.in/category/
to
www.example.com/ceramic+industry/
And I want to redirect it through .htaccess or from server. I tried from server that only redirect domain name not directory, and also tried from .htaccess where I can redirect only domain or only directory not when both domain and directory combine. My project in php. So, you can give advise if it's possible in php also.
Add following rule in .htaccess(placed at root of website www.example.co.in):

or use 302 for temporary redirects.
IF you also want to redirect whole .co.in website to .com THEN add next line(remember in .com website's .htaccess these two Rules should not be there.)

This can be done by PHP. As I guessed all URL after category/ is handled by one PHP page.
in that PHP page code this at top:

You can try this:

This will redirect, if your request contains existing directory name.

First two lines allow you to prevent infinite loop redirect.
Currently I set a rewrite rule like so, to produce clean and simple url's.
.htaccess
RewriteRule ^/about$ about.php [L]
But what i need to do is something a little different, the other way around. For example if a user clicks the following link
about
They would go to the about page /about
Currently the about page resides at index.php?a=about&b=user and this can't be changed unfortunately. As you can see it does not look very nice in the browser address bar.

You can add this RewriteRule to redirect the request when user hit index.php?a=about&b=user

I like to use this code because it's short and matches everything except for ~ which is very very rare to see in a url
Well I'm making profile pages so right now it looks like this

What I want to do is remove ?user= from the URL so the page appears as
