I have a simple query with outputs only one column (rows number may change)
SELECT column1 as NUMBER WHERE column1 ...
Output,
NUMBER
1
2
I just want it as an array in PHP with them as comma seperated.
So I did,
$rows = array();
while ($row = mysql_fetch_row($result)) {
$rows[] = $row;
and its working if I echo it with print_r
However because of some reason I cant get the plain values out of this array.
echo $rows[0] gives me the word 'Array'
echo implode(",", $rows); gives me 1Array',Array1
I tried
echo json_encode($rows[0]);
gives me
["1"]
I simply want 1,2
After a lot of different tries I gave up and added group_concat in the sql query. I just want to know what I did wrong.
Thanks.
try this
SELECT GROUP_CONCAT(`column1` SEPARATOR ',') AS number FROM table where....
mysql_fetch_row i returning a single element array. To have your desired output, only select the 1st element:
$rows = array();
while ($row = mysql_fetch_row($result)) {
$rows[] = $row[0];
foreach($rows as $key => $value){
}
should do the trick, with an echo it will output the results as an associative array
just make a simple amendment to your code:
$rows[] = $row;
into:
$rows[] = $row[0];
and use:
implode(", ", $rows[]);

I am trying to do a mysql fetch but it keeps adding numbered and labeled keys to the array. I want it to record only the labeled names and data in the array.
Am I using the wrong mysql call?
global $con,$mysqldb;
$sql="SHOW FIELDS FROM ".$dbtable;
$tr = mysqli_query($con,$sql);
$tl = mysqli_fetch_array($tr);
$tl = mysqli_fetch_array($tr);
$sql="SELECT * FROM ".$mysqldb.".".$dbtable." ORDER BY ".$tl['Field']." LIMIT 3";
$result = mysqli_query($con,$sql);
while($row = mysqli_fetch_array($result)) {
$table[$row[1]] = $row;
}
foreach($table as $item => $data){
foreach(array_keys($data) as $pointer => $field) {
echo"pointer=".$pointer."\t";
echo"field=".$field."\n";
echo "data=".$data[$field]."\n";
}
}
reults
pointer=0 field=0 data=3823
pointer=1 field=PID data=3823
pointer=2 field=1 data=AA
pointer=3 field=symbol data=AA
pointer=4 field=2 data=1
pointer=5 field=value data=1
I want to omit 0, 2, & 4 from the array.
Take a look at the PHP.net manual for the mysqli_fetch_array() function.
You'll see there's an option called resulttype that will accept 1 of 3 values - MYSQLI_ASSOC, MYSQLI_NUM, or MYSQLI_BOTH the default.
Using MYSQLI_ASSOC will remove the numbered keys.
Or check mysqli_fetch_assoc().
Thanks to thebluefox for a speedy response.
I replaced the fetch with:
while($row = $result->fetch_array(MYSQLI_ASSOC)) {
And now the results are being recorded as they should.
Using select query am select some data from database.
i fetched data using while loop.
while($row=mysql_fetch_array($query1))
{
}
now i want to print only index of $row.
i tried to print using following statements but it prints index and value(Key==>Value)
foreach ($row as $key => $value) {
echo $key ;
}
and i tried array_keys() also bt it is also not helpful to me.
echo implode(array_keys($row));
please help to get out this.
i need to print only index.
You are fetching the results row as both associative array and a numeric array (the default), see the manual on mysql_fetch_array.
If you need just the numeric array, use:
while($row=mysql_fetch_array($query1, MYSQL_NUM))
By the way, you should switch to PDO or mysqli as the mysql_* functions are deprecated.
You should pass separator(glue text) in Implode function.
For comma separated array keys, you can use below code.
echo implode(",",array_keys($row));
The $row variable in your while loop gets overwritten on each iteration, so the foreach won't work as you expect it to.
Store each $row in an array, like so:
$arr = array();
while($row=mysql_fetch_array($query1)) {
$arr[] = $row;
}
Now, to print the array keys, you can use a simple implode():
echo implode(', ', array_keys($arr));
$query1 from while($row=mysql_fetch_array($query1)) should be the result from
$query1 = mysql_result("SELECT * FROM table");
//then
while($row=mysql_fetch_array($query1))
To get only the keys use mysql_fetch_row
$query = "SELECT fields FROM table";
$result = mysql_query($query);
while ($row = mysql_fetch_row($result)) {
print_r(array_keys($row));
}
How can i get every row of a mysql table and put it in a php array? Do i need a multidimensional array for this? The purpose of all this is to display some points on a google map later on.
You need to get all the data that you want from the table. Something like this would work:
$SQLCommand = "SELECT someFieldName FROM yourTableName";
This line goes into your table and gets the data in 'someFieldName' from your table. You can add more field names where 'someFieldName' if you want to get more than one column.
$result = mysql_query($SQLCommand); // This line executes the MySQL query that you typed above
$yourArray = array(); // make a new array to hold all your data
$index = 0;
while($row = mysql_fetch_assoc($result)){ // loop to store the data in an associative array.
$yourArray[$index] = $row;
$index++;
}
The above loop goes through each row and stores it as an element in the new array you had made. Then you can do whatever you want with that info, like print it out to the screen:
echo $row[theRowYouWant][someFieldName];
So if $theRowYouWant is equal to 4, it would be the data(in this case, 'someFieldName') from the 5th row(remember, rows start at 0!).
$sql = "SELECT field1, field2, field3, .... FROM sometable";
$result = mysql_query($sql) or die(mysql_error());
$array = array();
while($row = mysql_fetch_assoc($result)) {
$array[] = $row;
}
echo $array[1]['field2']; // display field2 value from 2nd row of result set.
The other answers do work - however OP asked for all rows and if ALL fields are wanted as well it would much nicer to leave it generic instead of having to update the php when the database changes
$query="SELECT * FROM table_name";
Also to this point returning the data can be left generic too - I really like the JSON format as it will dynamically update, and can be easily extracted from any source.
while ($row = mysql_fetch_array($result, MYSQL_ASSOC))
{
echo json_encode($row);
}
You can do it without a loop. Just use the fetch_all command
$sql = 'SELECT someFieldName FROM yourTableName';
$result = $db->query($sql);
$allRows = $result->fetch_all();
HERE IS YOUR CODE, USE IT. IT IS TESTED.
$select=" YOUR SQL QUERY GOOES HERE";
$queryResult= mysql_query($select);
//DECLARE YOUR ARRAY WHERE YOU WILL KEEP YOUR RECORD SETS
$data_array=array();
//STORE ALL THE RECORD SETS IN THAT ARRAY
while ($row = mysql_fetch_array($queryResult, MYSQL_ASSOC))
{
array_push($data_array,$row);
}
mysql_free_result($queryResult);
//TEST TO SEE THE RESULT OF THE ARRAY
echo '<pre>';
print_r($data_array);
echo '</pre>';
THANKS
I need to have a single row of data "printed out" through php.
So, take this example from w3schools:
http://www.w3schools.com/PHP/php_mysql_select.asp
There is a cicle that goes through all the rows ( in this case, 2) and prints them out. The end result is:
Peter Griffin
Glenn Quagmire
What I want is to be able to select row 1 or 2 (or more) and just have that row of data selected. Then I could say something like (I know this doesent work, just an example):
echo $row["Name",2];
And get:
Glenn Quagmire
I believe I have to get a special parameter in mysql_fetch_array, but I cant find it anywhere, and I bet its something really simple. Please help me out, full examples/tutorials/guides links are preferred.
you have 2 options. First is edit your SQL query like exmaple below this will return just 2nd row from database.
$result = mysql_query("SELECT * FROM Persons" WHERE id = 2);
Or during the foreach loop fetch all result into another array.
$result = mysql_query("SELECT * FROM Persons");
$rows = array();
while($row = mysql_fetch_array($result))
{
$rows[] = $row['FirstName'] . " " . $row['LastName'];
}
As far as i know mysql doesnt have a function to return the entire query as an array.
So you can switch to using PDO (recommended):
$sth = $dbh->prepare("SELECT name, colour FROM fruit");
$sth->execute();
$result = $sth->fetchAll();
echo $result[1]['name'];
or if you must use the mysql_functions just create an array with the loop:
while($row = mysql_fetch_array($result)) {
$result[] = $row;
}
echo $result[1]['name'];
fetchall the results into an array and print the row you want.
I am using a complex join statement to get data from my 'items' table where 'column1' is equal to the value of table2.ID
This is in a mysql_query() statement, and it should return 3 rows.
Now my understanding is that by using
$array=mysql_fetch_array($queryresult);
I can then loop through each 'row' using a
foreach($array as $output) {
echo $output['ID'];
}
This is however not returning what i want. Using print_r on $output is outputting non-sensical information.
So, yes it is ver much back to basics, but obviously i have missed the point.
You need to use while loop:
while($row = mysql_fetch_array($queryresult)){
// handle each row
}
This is how I do it. This is by far not the end all solution... Just an example of how I do it.
$result = mysql_query($query, $dbconnect) or trigger_error("SQL", E_USER_ERROR);
$i = 0;
while ($row = mysql_fetch_array($result, MYSQL_ASSOC)) {
echo $row["questionId"];
echo $row["questionText"];
echo $row["questionReview"];
$i++;
}
http://php.net/manual/en/function.mysql-fetch-array.php
$array has a single row in it when you get to the loop, so when you say $output['ID'] you are one level deeper than you are expecting, walking through the columns instead of each row. When the ids don't exist or are translating to integers, thats where the nonsense comes in.
Use while($row = mysql_fetch_array($queryresult)) to walk through each row in the result set, then access the column values from $row['id'], $row['name'], etc. It will return false when there are no more rows.
The result will always be a single flat array with a single row per index id, regardless of the join dimensions.
