Paypal Subscription IPN Returning Invalid - php

As the title states, I am having an issue with Paypal and the IPN returning verified for a subscription method of payment. For every subscribtion IPN that I have done so far, it has returned INVALID with data. The thing is, for the same exact code, changing of the button from _xclick-subscriptions to _donations for example gives me a VERIFIED result.
I have been looking for a bit of time now for a solution to my issue but I have been unable to find one. Here is what is happening - I have created the subscription button that leads the user to paypal(in this case the sandbox) where they then pay and after they pay they have an option to return to the website. Here is the code for the button.
<form action="https://www.sandbox.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr" method="post">
<input type="image" src="https://www.paypal.com/en_US/i/btn/x-click-but20.gif" border="0" name="submit" alt="Make payments with PayPal - it's fast, free and secure!">
<input type="hidden" name="cmd" value="_xclick-subscriptions">
<input type="hidden" name="business" value="mail#url.com">
<input type="hidden" name="item_name" value="Monthly Sub">
<input type="hidden" name="no_note" value="1">
<input type="hidden" name="currency_code" value="USD">
<input type="hidden" name="a3" value="10.00">
<input type="hidden" name="p3" value="1">
<input type="hidden" name="t3" value="M">
<input type="hidden" name="src" value="1">
<input type="hidden" name="sra" value="1">
<input type="hidden" name="rm" value="2">
<input type="hidden" name="return" value="http://url.com/thanks.php">
</form>
Since this has been a decent issue for me I have broken the button down into having pretty much barebones required values until I am able to actually get it to return verified instead of invalid.
The following is the code that I have as my IPN listener.
define("DEBUG", 1);
define("USE_SANDBOX", 1);
define("LOG_FILE", "./ipn.log");
// Read POST data
// reading posted data directly from $_POST causes serialization
// issues with array data in POST. Reading raw POST data from input stream instead.
$raw_post_data = file_get_contents('php://input');
$raw_post_array = explode('&', $raw_post_data);
$myPost = array();
foreach ($raw_post_array as $keyval) {
$keyval = explode ('=', $keyval);
if (count($keyval) == 2)
$myPost[$keyval[0]] = urldecode($keyval[1]);
}
// read the post from PayPal system and add 'cmd'
$req = 'cmd=_notify-validate';
if(function_exists('get_magic_quotes_gpc')) {
$get_magic_quotes_exists = true;
}
foreach ($myPost as $key => $value) {
if($get_magic_quotes_exists == true && get_magic_quotes_gpc() == 1) {
$value = urlencode(stripslashes($value));
} else {
$value = urlencode($value);
}
$req .= "&$key=$value";
}
// Post IPN data back to PayPal to validate the IPN data is genuine

if(USE_SANDBOX == true) {
$paypal_url = "https://www.sandbox.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr";

}
$ch = curl_init($paypal_url);

error_log(date('[Y-m-d H:i e] '). "HTTP response of validation request: $res" . PHP_EOL, 3, LOG_FILE);
// Split response headers and payload
list($headers, $res) = explode("\r\n\r\n", $res, 2);
}
curl_close($ch);
}
// Inspect IPN validation result and act accordingly
if (strcmp ($res, "VERIFIED") == 0) {
if(DEBUG == true) {
error_log(date('[Y-m-d H:i e] '). "Verified IPN: $req ". PHP_EOL, 3, LOG_FILE);
}
} else if (strcmp ($res, "INVALID") == 0) {
if(DEBUG == true) {
error_log(date('[Y-m-d H:i e] '). "Invalid IPN: $req" . PHP_EOL, 3, LOG_FILE);
}
}
As I said earlier, a cmd value of _donations returns VERIFIED but _xclick-subscriptions returns INVALID with the data. I have an example of the data that is returned here.
cmd=_notify-validate&txn_type=subscr_signup&subscr_id=I-SFYTVAKSSYGK&last_name=lastname&residence_country=US&mc_currency=USD&item_name=Monthly+Sub&business=mail%40url.com&amount3=10.00&recurring=1&address_street=1+Main+St&payer_status=verified&payer_email=name%40email.com&address_status=confirmed&first_name=firstname&receiver_email=mail%40url.com&address_country_code=US&payer_id=SYPW3V3BVWTJW&address_city=San+Jose&reattempt=1&address_state=CA&subscr_date=07%3A33%3A13+Aug+27%2C+2014+PDT&address_zip=95131&charset=windows-1252&period3=1+M&address_country=United+States&mc_amount3=10.00&address_name=firstname+lastname&auth=AwIHoldf-BK2GZqtPhPo0O2g3go74cV9ZOLRYhHTJdKDM5EP0YHuqHLo23RYPfQs-3YDnvhjVf.J3AtydGfvDfA&form_charset=UTF-8
I honestly have no clue as to where to go from here on out so any and all help is greatly appreciated!

After another entire day of testing I ended up figuring out what was causing my specific issue. It turns out that Paypal likes to use multiple IP's to post the information from sandbox to your server. I am using htaccess to block all but my ip address from viewing the website(have a server but I am really close to going live and this was the last thing barring me from opening the website up). After grabbing what I thought was all of the Paypal sandbox IP's I opened those up in htaccess. Turns out that Paypal uses a different IP to post the data from a subscription method as compared to a one time payment method. Once I found that out and added in the IP to htaccess my problem went away.

IPN message returning INVALID

I'm trying to make a website on which I need to facilitate PayPal's IPN technology. However, even though I use their sample code for implementing my IPN listener, I cannot seem to make it work. The sample code is:
<?php
// CONFIG: Enable debug mode. This means we'll log requests into 'ipn.log' in the same directory.
// Especially useful if you encounter network errors or other intermittent problems with IPN (validation).
// Set this to 0 once you go live or don't require logging.
define("DEBUG", 1);
// Set to 0 once you're ready to go live
define("USE_SANDBOX", 1);
define("LOG_FILE", "./ipn.log");

Paypal IPN notification not being sent

At this moment in time I have no ssl cert. I have just ordered it and I need to set up a new web server as currently while I build this app I'm using my existing server with an addon domain. When I have finished it i will get my new dedicated server and SSL cert installed.
I am using the following button:
<form target="paypal" action="https://www.sandbox.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr" method="post">
<input type="hidden" name="cmd" value="_xclick">
<input type="hidden" name="amount" value="25">

<input type="hidden" name="notify_url" value="http://www.[mywebsiteURL].com/gdpripnh-exec.php">
<input type="hidden" name="return" value="http://www.[mywebsiteURL].com/upgrade.php">
<input type="submit" border="0" name="submit" value="Buy Now!" />
</form>
I have setup my Paypal IPN url in my Paypal developer control panel, as it didn't work I added the notify_url to the button.
I tried the ipn testing simulator andd got this error response:
IPN was not sent, and the handshake was not verified. Please review your information.
I am using this IPN script

exit();
?>
So I press the paypal button and get redirected to the paypal sandbox page where I login with a test account and make the payment. The payment is successful and I get returned to the page which I have specified. No IPN activity whatsoever.
Where I have put //good stuff happens here I am collecting information and entering it into my SQL database. I am also updating a log file which i use for testing. But nothing is happening.
I am baffled because i did get a log in giggdipn.log just one time. it stated:
[2016-02-26 17:27 America/Chicago] Can't connect to PayPal to validate IPN message: SSL connect error
I deleted it and tried again, just to see and now I do not get it at all.
So I googled and tried adding this:
curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_SSL_VERIFYPEER, 0);
still I get nothing.
Make sure the Url provides for the IPN response is accessible to the outside world.

When I simulate the IPN listener it is working, I get values inserted (empty, ofcourse because we dont have the $a_name $email etc.) in database so it passes the payment.
This will happen too when I take the steps on the website.
The values from the textboxes gone lost. I can't retrieve them in my payment.php (listener).
What should I do in order to get the values and insert them in the database after a payment successes? I just get empty values inserted into the database.
Solved!:
What I did was I sent the $_POST values after the payment to my email via the IPN Listener.
What I received was something like this:
:11:"verify_sign";s:56:"AnNMT7nRteKS2auTkxdsRz9rRvvPAWwWAsbZm21nF1AGuSAtUwoLbcd.";s:11:"payer_email";s:20:"stan-buyer#stwebs.nl";s:12:"option_name1";s:8:"segujejg";s:12:"option_name2";s:16:"stan#hotmail.com";s:12:"option_name3";s:9:"jsipegjie";s:6:"txn_id";s:17:"61S77153EE2897129";s:12:"payment_type
It successfully received the values, so the only thing I had to do was replace the $_POST['a_name'] with $_POST['option_name1'] As it returns from Paypal.
It works now.
Paypal IPN has a custom variable that you can use to send custom values to Paypal and Paypal will send it back to you. But it's only one field and it is limited to 255 characters. https://developer.paypal.com/docs/classic/ipn/integration-guide/IPNandPDTVariables/
So in your case, maybe you can try having the form on one page. After user submits "name", "email" and "url", insert those into DB, get the row's id, then on the next screen, you insert the paypal button, populate the "custom" hidden input field with the row's id and your IPN listener will receive the id back (in the custom var), so you can check the database.

Paypal IPN works, but doesn't update database. Unsure on how to debug

After ages I have finally managed to get my IPN from Paypal working. I found a code on GITHUB that provides a ipn.log which comes back with "Verified" or "Invalid".
Upon using the Paypal Sandbox, the transaction works and my ipn.log file updates telling me it was Verified.
However the code I've put in after this does not work and I'm at a complete loss on how to fix it!

I'm at a complete loss and my mind is a boggle! Please understand my php coding level is very basic!
Thank you for any and all help!
You are using the variable $mc_gross, but you are not taking that from the $_POST data, I don't get how you are supposed to get the actual amount?
If you'd do $mc_gross = $_POST['mc_gross']; you'd actually have the price you're looking for!

PayPal IPN Custom Form data

I'm trying to get several additional data to insert in my database after the IPN is verified. I get the default form fields as defined by PayPal correctly, however if I try to send custom ones they won't be received.
Here's my IPN method, right after $insertTransaction I've noted with a comment that I want to add several custom values to another table (orders) which I get from the same form where the user is buying them:
public function ipn()
{
// CONFIG: Enable debug mode. This means we'll log requests into 'ipn.log' in the same directory.
// Especially useful if you encounter network errors or other intermittent problems with IPN (validation).
// Set this to 0 once you go live or don't require logging.

// Set to 0 once you're ready to go live
define("USE_SANDBOX", 1);
define("LOG_FILE", "./ipn.log");
// Read POST data
// reading posted data directly from $_POST causes serialization
// issues with array data in POST. Reading raw POST data from input stream instead.
$raw_post_data = file_get_contents('php://input');
$raw_post_array = explode('&', $raw_post_data);
$myPost = array();
foreach ($raw_post_array as $keyval) {
$keyval = explode('=', $keyval);
if (count($keyval) == 2)
$myPost[$keyval[0]] = urldecode($keyval[1]);
}
// read the post from PayPal system and add 'cmd'
$req = 'cmd=_notify-validate';
if(function_exists('get_magic_quotes_gpc')) {
$get_magic_quotes_exists = true;
}
foreach ($myPost as $key => $value) {

I tried to add custom input fields to no avail. How can I solve this?
In your ipn function, I don't see you trying to access the $_POST variable custom?
Also, in your form, the custom field is empty:
<input type="hidden" name="custom" value="">
Double-check the manual and make sure that you're using the custom field correctly. If you have multiple values, use a delimiter such as "-".
