I created a form in php with action as the same page url and method as POST
<?php
if(isset($_POST['submitted']) && $_POST['submitted'] != ''){
echo $_POST['fname'];
echo "<br />";
echo $_POST['lname'];
echo "<br />";
echo $_POST['submitted'];
}
?>
<h1>testing...</h1>
<form action="test.php" method="POST">
First Name: <input type="text" name="fname" />
Last Name: <input type="text" name="lname" />
<input type="submit" name="submitted" />
</form>
When I enter data and submit it, page shows the data as I printed the data. But when I refresh page the data still exists, I want the data to be shown only when I click submit.
Can anybody help me in this?
Am I doing something wrong.
AFAIK. This is a standard browser behavior to repeat last request with f5 button.
My understanding for what do you need to prevent it. It's to prevent 'spam'.
So, you need to understand that first submit was already made.
As test idea you can add timestamp for send button and check it on send. In this case timestamp from button and on send will be different for refreshing
I figured out that
0) {
$_SESSION['shout'] = $_POST['shout'];
header("HTTP/1.1 303 See Other");
header("Location: http://$_SERVER[HTTP_HOST]/echochamber.php");
die();
}
else if (isset($_SESSION['shout'])){
$echoedShout = $_SESSION['shout'];
/*
Put database-affecting code here.
*/
session_unset();
session_destroy();
}
?>
OR I did that in codeigniter using set_flashdata which stores session data for next request only.

my page receives data which i retrieve with $_post. I display some data and at the bottom of page my button has to save data to mysql. I could submit form to next page, but how do i access the data that I have retrieved with post then? Lets say i have following code (in reality alot more variables ..):
<?php
$v= $_POST["something"];
echo $v;
echo "Is the following information correct? //this would be at the bottom of the page with the buttons
?>
<input type="button" value="submit data" name="addtosql">
You can do it in two methods:
1) You can save the POST variable in a hidden field.
<input type="hidden" name="somevalue" value="<?php if(isset($_POST["something"])) echo $_POST["something"];?>" >
The hidden value also will get passed to the action page on FORM submission. In that page you can access this value using
echo $_POST['somevalue'];
2) Use SESSION
You can store the value in SESSION and can access in any other page.
$v= $_POST["something"];
session_start();
$_SESSION['somevalue']=$v;
and in next page access SESSION variable using,
session_start();
if(isset($_SESSION['somevalue']))
echo $_SESSION['somevalue'];
Take a look. Below every thing should be on single php page
// first create a function
function getValue($key){
if(isset($_POST[$key]))
return $_POST[$key];
else
return "";
}
// process your form here
if(isset($_POST['first_name']){
// do your sql stuff here.
}
// now in html
<form method="post" action="<?php echo $_SERVER['PHP_SELF']; ?>">
<input type="text" name="first_name" value="<?php echo getValue("first_name"); ?>" />
<input type="submit" />
</form>
Hey i have having a problem i just found working with session i am using at the moment firefox 23 but i have check that on some other browsers as well.
I have created a simple code where i have created a form and just opened a session and i have noticed that once i have submit the form and then click on "Go Back" to return to the page the info i have inserted is not saved on the browser.
Normally when you submit a form once you go back the data you have entered is saved and you can just edit the inputs and resent it but when i have used session_start() on the page that function stopped working.
Well i am guessing maybe the browser save the form data in sessions as well and once i use it in php it's somehow effect the normally way the browser work.
I hope someone know how i can fix that i know you are able to save sessions with html5 and javascript now but i would rather do that with php.
Attached below is the code i have been using:
<?php
session_start();
// store session data
$_SESSION['name']= "name";
?>
<form method="post" action="index.php">
<input type="text" name="email" placeholder="Email" /><br />
<input type="text" name="name" placeholder="Name" /><br />
<input type="submit" name="submit" value="Submit" />
</form>
The browser refilling the form is simply that, the browser. This is not something you should rely upon for form re-population.
Your PHP code does not attempt to refill the form by printing anything within the input value="" attributes.
Generally when a form is submitted a programmer will validate the submitted values, store them in some fashion (the session is fine) and if they need them to reappear on the form they will print those values back out like I described.
I think you want to put the CORRECT fields back into the form values and blank out the incorrect ones. You don't have to use sessions:
<?php // formx.php
// accept POST variables
$fld1 = isset($_POST['fld1']) ? $_POST['fld1'] : "";
$fld2 = isset($_POST['fld2']) ? $_POST['fld2'] : "";
// edit variables
$errmsg = "";
if (!$fld1 == "") { if($fld1 <> "1") { $errmsg .= "fld1 is not 1<br />\n"; $fld1 = ""; } }
if (!$fld2 == "") { if($fld2 <> "2") { $errmsg .= "fld2 is not 2<br />\n"; $fld2 = ""; } }
if ($errmsg == "") { $errmsg = "Values accepted"; }
// output form
$body = <<<EOD
<html>
<body>
<div>%s</div><!-- errmsg -->
<form name="formnm" action="formx.php" method="post">
Enter "1" <input type="text" name="fld1" value="%s" /><br />
Enter "2" <input type="text" name="fld2" value="%s" /><br />
<input type="submit" value="Submit" />
</form>
</body>
</html>
EOD;
printf($body, $errmsg, $fld1, $fld2);
?>
I am learning PHP and I have a page that reloads back to itself. I want to know if you can ignore a certain function on the initial loading of the page and only call it once the form submit button has been clicked.
The page is passed a 'ticketID' and loads the information from it. I then want to be able to add a note using the following form method:
<form method="POST" action="<?php echo htmlspecialchars($_SERVER["PHP_SELF"]);?>">
<strong>Add Note:</strong>
<textarea name="note" rows="5" cols="40" value=><?php echo htmlspecialchars($note);?></textarea>
<span class="error">*<?php echo $noteErr;?></span><br>
The user then clicks on a submit button to submit the note for processing:
<button type='submit' name='ticketID' value= <?php echo $_POST['ticketID'];?> >View</button>
</form>
The 'ticketID' is then passed back to the page to reload the information.
If the submit button is pressed and no note has been entered I want a message box to display informing the user to include a note. I have tried:
if (!empty($_POST["note"]))
{
echo "This has updated...";
} else {
echo "Missing!";
}
However this loads the error message even on the initial load of the page. I have tried setting a variable to the POST ticketID value and clearing the POST value after the page has displayed and before testing for the error message:
$tempTicketID = $_POST['ticketID'];
$_POST['ticketID'] = NULL;
Then testing the error message, and finally setting the POS value back before the page ends to allow it to reload correctly again:
$_POST['ticketID'] = $tempTicketID;
However the POST value doesn't save and the page reloads with no information.
Any help would be great appreciated.
Here's the full code layout:
##LOAD THE PAGE INFO...
#Set the temp variable and clear the post value
$tempTicketID = $_POST['ticketID'];
$_POST['ticketID'] = NULL;
#Load the form
<form method="POST" action="<?php echo htmlspecialchars($_SERVER["PHP_SELF"]);?>">
<strong>Add Note:</strong>
<textarea name="note" rows="5" cols="40" value=><?php echo htmlspecialchars($note);?></textarea>
<span class="error">*<?php echo $noteErr;?></span><br>
<button type='submit' name='ticketID' value= <?php echo $_POST['ticketID'];?> >View</button>
</form>
#Test if the note is empty and the form button has been pressed
if (!empty($_POST["note"]))
{
echo "This has updated...";
} elseif (empty($_POST["ticketID"] {
echo "Missing!";
}
#Set POST value back to reload the page
$_POST['ticketID'] = $tempTicketID;
We need to restructure the form just a bit to make this happen. You can check if the form is submitted by testing for the button that must be clicked to submit. However, you're using that button for multiple purposes. To simplify, we'll have a separate submit button, and pass the ticketID value through the form with a hidden input. You shouldn't need the code that unsets the $_POST values.
<button type='submit' name='submit'> View</button>
<input type='hidden' name='ticketID' value= <?php echo $_POST['ticketID'];?> />
Then you can test if the form has been submitted with this quick check:
if (isset($_POST['submit'])) {
if (!empty($_POST["note"]))
{
echo "This has updated...";
} else {
echo "Missing!";
}
}
every time i am refreshing the page and i am getting the same value stored in the post array.
i want execution of echo statement only after submit and after refreshing no echo results..
<?php
if(isset($_POST['submit']))
{
$name = $_POST['name'];
echo "User name : <b> $name </b>";
}
?>
<form method="post" action="<?php echo $_SERVER['PHP_SELF']; ?>">
<input type="text" name="name"><br>
<input type="submit" name="submit" value="Submit Form"><br>
</form>
From just a form, you won't be able to check if it was a refresh, or a first submit, regardless of using GET or POST method.
To ensure a single message, you need to:
a. redirect the user to somewhere else after you processed the request.
if(isset($_POST['submit'])) {
// process data
header("Location: new-url");
}
And display the message on the other URL.
b. set a cookie / session variable, which tells you the form was already processed.
if(isset($_POST['submit']) && !isset($_SESSION['form_processed'])) {
$_SESSION['form_processed'] = true;
}
This second approach will kill your form until the user closes the browser, so you should do something more complex - like storing another hidden field in the form, and storing that in the session.
If you submit a form and then refresh the resulting page, the browser will re-post the form (usually prompts first). That is why the POST data is always present.
An option would be to store a session variable and have it sent in the form, then check if it matches in the form processing code - to determine if it is a re-post or not.
Within the form:
<input type="hidden" name="time" value="<?php echo $time; ?>" />
In the PHP:
session_start();
if(isset($_POST['submit']))
{
if(isset($_SESSION['time']) && $_SESSION['time'] == $_POST['time'])
{
echo "User name : <b> $name </b>";
}
}
$time = $_SESSION['time'] = time();
Another option is to redirect after processing the post data:
if(isset($_POST['submit']))
{
...
...
header('Location: ' . basename($_SERVER['PHP_SELF']));
exit();
}
You need to maintain a state as to whether $name has already been displayed or not. The easiest way is probably to maintain that state in a browser cookie.
<?php
$nonce = $_COOKIE['nonce'];
$new_nonce = mt_rand();
setcookie('nonce', $new_nonce);
if(isset($_POST['submit']) && $_POST['nonce'] == $nonce)
{
$name = $_POST['name'];
echo "User name : <b> $name </b>";
}
?>
<form method="post" action="<?php echo $_SERVER['PHP_SELF']; ?>">
<input type="hidden" name="nonce" value="<?php echo $new_nonce ?>">
<input type="text" name="name"><br>
<input type="submit" name="submit" value="Submit Form"><br>
</form>
Problems
you are polluting the user “session” with stale variable.
this will break if your user opens several windows (or tabs) to the same page. To fix this you would have to change the nonce cookie into an array of nonces, and update it accordingly.
if you want refresh page after submit use
<form method="get"
sure if your form hasn't a lot of data and also need to use $_GET instead of $_POST variable:)
correct way for you, but this logic is not good, need to refactor this script:
<?php
if(isset($_POST['submit']))
{
$name = $_POST['name'];
echo "User name : <b> $name </b>";
unset($_POST['submit']);
}
?>
<form method="post" action="<?php echo $_SERVER['PHP_SELF']; ?>">
<input type="text" name="name"><br>
<input type="submit" name="submit" value="Submit Form"><br>
</form>
I've finally got the first page of my registration page working. The user has to select one of three options before continuing to the next page. The problem I am having now is that the first page is not sending the data to the next page. Here is the code for
Registration_1.php:
$reg_type = "";
if ($_SERVER["REQUEST_METHOD"] == "POST") {
if (!empty($_POST["Reg_type"])) {
//$reg_type=$_POST["Reg_type"];
//header('Location: Registration_2.php?rtype='.$reg_type);
$reg_type=$_POST["Reg_type"];
header('Location: Registration_2.php');
}
}
?>
<form name="frmtype" action="<?php echo htmlspecialchars($_SERVER["PHP_SELF"]);?>" method="post" >
<input type="radio" name="Reg_type" value="1"/> Registering myself with credit card or bank account <br/>
<input type="radio" name="Reg_type" value="2"/> Registering multiple people using credit card or bank account <br/>
<input type="radio" name="Reg_type" value="3"/> Registering multiple people using a purchase order <br/>
<input type="submit" name="Submit" value="Submit" />
<?php
if(isset($_POST["Submit"]) && !isset($_POST["Reg_type"]))
echo "Please select an option";
?>
</form>
Registration_2.php
<?php
$regtype=$_POST["Reg_type"];
echo "regtype value is:" . $regtype;
if($regtype==1) {
?>
However regtype is blank, meaning i'm not getting any data from the previous page. Can anyone tell me what the problem is?
session_start();
$reg_type=$_POST["Reg_type"];
$_SESSION['cust_type'] = $reg_type;
and in any page,
session_start();
echo $_SESSION['cust_type'];

PHP Pass variable to next page

This is because you are doing a redirect, so the post data no longer exists.
You have a few options.
Instead of doing a redirect, you could do an include.
You could store the data (session, database, etc)
You could append the data to the redirect
header('Location: Registration_2.php?Reg_type=' . $_POST['Reg_type');
then use $_GET on the Registration_2 instead of post.
You're posting your form to page1 and then redirecting to page2. Page2 doesn't have access to the posted data due to the redirect (the post is not carried along).
What you should do is process the data in page1 and store it before redirecting (eg, in a session, or use a query string like you've commented out).
Another note, when you call for a redirect using header, make sure you also exit or die immediately afterwards like the php documentation mentions (since you cannot guarantee the page will stop processing there).
First of all, when you use header to redirect, the POST variables are lost. You need to pass the variables with GET in order to retrieve them on Registration_2.php.
Registration_1.php
//...
header('Location: Registration_2.php?Reg_type=' . $_POST["Reg_type"]);
//...
and Registration_2.php:
$regtype=$_GET["Reg_type"];
echo "regtype value is:" . $regtype; if($regtype==1) {
