I'm using bootstrap tables and rows to count how much files are in a folder, but the destination is pointing to a different server the code below does not work.
As i'm using localhost (xampp) trying to do this don't know if its possible.
<?php
// integer starts at 0 before counting
$i = 0;
$dir = 'uploads/'; <!--\\189.207.00.122\folder1\folder2\folder3\test-->
if ($handle = opendir($dir)) {
while (($file = readdir($handle)) !== false){
if (!in_array($file, array('.', '..')) && !is_dir($dir.$file))
$i++;
}
}
// prints out how many were in the directory
echo "There were $i files";
?>
Here is a handy little function you might want to try out. Just pass the path to the Directory as the first argument to it and you'd get your result.
NOTE: This Function is RECURSIVE, which means: it will traverse all sub-directories... to disable this behaviour, simply comment out or delete the following lines towards the end of the Funciton:
<?php
}else if(is_dir($temp_file_or_dir) && !preg_match('/^\..*/', $val) ){
getFilesInFolder($temp_file_or_dir);
}
THE CODE:
<?php
$folder = dirname(__FILE__).'/uploads'; // ASSUMES YOUR uploads DIRECTORY
// IS IN THE SAME DIRECTORY AS index.php
// (/htdocs/php/pages)
// OR
$folder = dirname(__FILE__).'/../uploads'; // ASSUMES YOUR uploads DIRECTORY
// IS ONE DIRECTORY ABOVE
// THE CURRENT DIRECTORY (/htdocs/php)
// THIS IS MOST LIKELY RIGHT
// OR
$folder = dirname(__FILE__).'/../../uploads';// ASSUMES YOUR uploads DIRECTORY
// IS TWO DIRECTORIES ABOVE
// THE CURRENT DIRECTORY (/htdocs)
// MAKE SURE THE FOLDER IN QUESTION HAS THE RIGHT PERMISSIONS
// OR RATHER CHANGE PERMISSIONS ON THE FOLDER TO BE ABLE TO WORK WITH IT
chmod($folder, 0777);
var_dump(getFilesInFolder($folder));
// IF YOU PASS false AS THE THE 2ND ARGUMENT TO THIS FUNCTION
// YOU'D GET AN ARRAY OF ALL FILES IN THE $path2Folder DIRECTORY
// AS WELL AS IN SUB-DIRECTORIES WITHIN IT...
function getFilesInFolder($path2Folder, $countOnly=true){
$files_in_dir = scandir($path2Folder);
$returnable = array();
foreach($files_in_dir as $key=>$val){
$temp_file_or_dir = $path2Folder . DIRECTORY_SEPARATOR . $val;
if(is_file($temp_file_or_dir) && !preg_match("#^\..*#", $temp_file_or_dir)){
$arrRX = array('#\.{2,4}$#', '#\.#');
$arrReplace = array("", "_");
$returnVal = preg_replace($arrRX, $arrReplace, $val);
$returnable[$returnVal] = $temp_file_or_dir;
}else if(is_dir($temp_file_or_dir) && !preg_match('/^\..*/', $val) ){
getFilesInFolder($temp_file_or_dir);
}
}
return ($countOnly) ? count($returnable) : $returnable;
}
Use $_SERVER['DOCUMENT_ROOT'] to get your root directory.
$dir = $_SERVER['DOCUMENT_ROOT'].'/uploads/';

A little stuck on this and hoping for some help. I'm trying to get the last modified dir from a path in a string. I know there is a function called "is_dir" and I've done some research but can't seem to get anything to work.
I don't have any code i'm sorry.
<?php
$path = '../../images/';
// echo out the last modified dir from inside the "images" folder
?>
For example: The path variable above has 5 sub folders inside the "images" dir currently right now. I want to echo out "sub5" - which is the last modified folder.
You can use scandir() instead of is_dir() function to do it.
Here is an example.
function GetFilesAndFolder($Directory) {
/*Which file want to be escaped, Just add to this array*/
$EscapedFiles = [
'.',
'..'
];
$FilesAndFolders = [];
/*Scan Files and Directory*/
$FilesAndDirectoryList = scandir($Directory);
foreach ($FilesAndDirectoryList as $SingleFile) {
if (in_array($SingleFile, $EscapedFiles)){
continue;
}
/*Store the Files with Modification Time to an Array*/
$FilesAndFolders[$SingleFile] = filemtime($Directory . '/' . $SingleFile);
}
/*Sort the result as your needs*/
arsort($FilesAndFolders);
$FilesAndFolders = array_keys($FilesAndFolders);
return ($FilesAndFolders) ? $FilesAndFolders : false;
}
$data = GetFilesAndFolder('../../images/');
var_dump($data);
From above example the last modified Files or Folders will show as Ascending order.
You can also separate your files and folder by checking is_dir() function and store the result in 2 different arrays like $FilesArray=[] and $FolderArray=[].
Details about filemtime() scandir() arsort()
Here's one way you can accomplish this:
<?php
// Get an array of all files in the current directory.
// Edit to use whatever location you need
$dir = scandir(__DIR__);
$newest_file = null;
$mdate = null;
// Loop over files in directory and if it is a subdirectory and
// its modified time is greater than $mdate, set that as the current
// file.
foreach ($dir as $file) {
// Skip current directory and parent directory
if ($file == '.' || $file == '..') {
continue;
}
if (is_dir(__DIR__.'/'.$file)) {
if (filemtime(__DIR__.'/'.$file) > $mdate) {
$newest_file = __DIR__.'/'.$file;
$mdate = filemtime(__DIR__.'/'.$file);
}
}
}
echo $newest_file;
This will work too just like the other answers. Thanks everyone for the help!
<?php
// get the last created/modified directory
$path = "images/";
$latest_ctime = 0;
$latest_dir = '';
$d = dir($path);
while (false !== ($entry = $d->read())) {
$filepath = "{$path}/{$entry}";
if(is_dir($filepath) && filectime($filepath) > $latest_ctime) {
$latest_ctime = filectime($filepath);
$latest_dir = $entry;
}
} //end loop
echo $latest_dir;
?>
I understand how to delete a specified file using the 'unlink' command in PHP, but what I need to do is to write some code that will take all (10,000+) files in a folder (possibly put them into an array), open them, and then delete ONLY files that contain specific information. (All files in the folder are .txt files containing a list, or array, of numbers. EX: I want to delete any files where 4,5,6,7th slots in the array contained 20,20,100,100 respectively).
Is this a start:
<?php
$directory = '/path/to/files';
if (! is_dir($directory)) {
exit('Invalid diretory path');
}
$files = array();
foreach (scandir($directory) as $file) {
if ('.' === $file) continue;
if ('..' === $file) continue;
$files[] = $file;
}
var_dump($files);
?>
Following on from #ShawnMehan 's and #Jigar 's comments and from my own - I have not been able to test this where I am but it might serve to point you in a direction for what you need. Not sure how many rows of arrays you have in each file, so I have used a loop but if there is only one line, you will only need the fgets().
I have assumed that your arrays in the text files are comma delimited, but if they are tab delimited you would need to explode them by "\t".
$files = array();
$each_line = array();
$file_counter = 0;
$directory = '/path/to/files';
if (! is_dir($directory)) {
exit('Invalid directory path');
}
$files = glob($directory."/*.txt"); // Scan directory for .txt files
// Check that there are .txt files in directory
if ($files !== false) {
$number_of_files = count($files); // Count number of .txt files in directory
while($file_counter < $number_of_files){
$file_handle = fopen ($files[$file_counter], "r"); // Open file
while (!feof ($file_handle)) {
// get the arrays a row at a time and put each row into array
$each_line = explode( ',', fgets($file_handle, 1000));
if($each_line[3] == 20 || $each_line[4] == 20 || $each_line [5] == 100 || $each_line[6] == 100){
unlink($file_handle);
}
}
if(file_exists($file_handle)){
fclose($file_handle);
}
$file_counter++;
}
}else{
echo "No text files found in this directory";
}
Some notes on the use of glob(); for opening files in case you may not be opening local files (it won't work on remote files): http://php.net/manual/en/function.glob.php
I am taking over a website already build because the original programmer is not available anymore.
I need to rename files in a directory, then move the files to their own folder matching the file name, but if the folder does not exist I need to create the folder.
To rename the files I have this php code that it was using the original programmer of the website (Was tested and is working as expected, Let me clarify that the files are something like STV12543.htm and need to be 12543_Todays-Date.htm)
<?php
function dirList ($directory, $prefijo )
{
$results = array();
$handler = opendir($directory);
while ($file = readdir($handler)) {
$comienzo = substr($file, 0, 3);
if ($file != '.' && $file != '..' && $comienzo== $prefijo)
$results[] = $file;
}
closedir($handler);
return $results;
}
$directory = "ws/archivos-cli/";
$prefijo = "STV";
$resultado = dirList($directory, $prefijo);
foreach($resultado as $file){
$ultima_modificacion = filemtime($directory.$file);
$ultima_modificacion = date("Y-m-d", $ultima_modificacion);
$name = split('STV',$file);
$name = split('.htm',$name[1]);
$newname = $name[0].'_'.$ultima_modificacion.'.htm';
//if (!file_exists($directory.$newname))
rename($directory.$file, $directory.$newname);
}
?>
I guess I can call that scrip with a cron, but for moving files, I have a sh script
#!/bin/sh
source_dir='/ws/archivos-cli/'
target_dir='/ws/archivos-cli/subfolders'
name_separator='_'
(
cd ${source_dir} || {
echo "${source_dir} no existe!" ; exit 1
}
for i in `ls` ; do
client_name="`echo ${i} | cut -f1 -d${name_separator}`"
echo "-> Moving file [${i}] to [${target_dir}/${client_name}/] folder"
mv -vf ${i} ${target_dir}/${client_name}/ || break
echo
done
)
So, how can I combine them (the 2 scripts) and add the option to create the folder if not exists, based on the file name without the date?
Thank you in advance.
So I'm trying to make a simple script, it will have a list of predefined files, search for anything that's not on the list and delete it.
I have this for now
<?php
$directory = "/home/user/public_html";
$files = glob($directory . "*.*");
foreach($files as $file)
{
$sql = mysql_query("SELECT id FROM files WHERE FileName='$file'");
if(mysql_num_rows($sql) == 0)
unlink($directory . $file);
}
?>
However, I'd like to avoid the query so I can run the script more often (there's about 60-70 files, and I want to run this every 20 seconds or so?) so how would I embedd a file list into the php file and check against that instead of database?
Thanks!
You are missing a trailing / twice.. In glob() you are giving /home/user/public_html*.* as the argument, I think you mean /home/user/public_html/*.*.
This is why I bet nothing matches the files in your table..
This won't give an error either because the syntax is fine.
Then where you unlink() you do this again.. your argument home/user/public_htmltestfile.html should be home/user/public_html/testfile.html.
I like this syntax style: "{$directory}/{$file}" because it's short and more readable. If the / is missing, you see it immediately. You can also change it to $directory . "/" . $file, it you prefer it. The same goes for one line conditional statements.. So here it comes..
<?php
$directory = "/home/user/public_html";
$files = glob("{$directory}/*.*");
foreach($files as $file)
{
$sql = mysql_query("SELECT id FROM files WHERE FileName=\"{$file}\";");
if(mysql_num_rows($sql) == 0)
{
unlink("{$directory}/{$file}");
}
}
?>
EDIT: You requested recursion. Here it goes..
You need to make a function that you can run once with a path as it's argument. Then you can run that function from inside that function on subdirectories. Like this:
<?php
/*
ListDir list files under directories recursively
Arguments:
$dir = directory to be scanned
$recursive = in how many levels of recursion do you want to search? (0 for none), default: -1 (for "unlimited")
*/
function ListDir($dir, $recursive=-1)
{
// if recursive == -1 do "unlimited" but that's no good on a live server! so let's say 999 is enough..
$recursive = ($recursive == -1 ? 999 : $recursive);
// array to hold return value
$retval = array();
// remove trailing / if it is there and then add it, to make sure there is always just 1 /
$dir = rtrim($dir,"/") . "/*";
// read the directory contents and process each node
foreach(glob($dir) as $node)
{
// skip hidden files
if(substr($node,-1) == ".") continue;
// if $node is a dir and recursive is greater than 0 (meaning not at the last level or disabled)
if(is_dir($node) && $recursive > 0)
{
// substract 1 of recursive for ever recursion.
$recursive--;
// run this same function again on itself, merging the return values with the return array
$retval = array_merge($retval, ListDir($node, $recursive));
}
// if $node is a file, we add it to the array that will be returned from this function
elseif(is_file($node))
{
$retval[] = $node;
// NOTE: if you want you can do some action here in your case you can unlink($node) if it matches your requirements..
}
}
return $retval;
}
// Output the result
echo "<pre>";
print_r(ListDir("/path/to/dir/",1));
echo "</pre>";
?>
If the list is not dynamic, store it in an array:
$myFiles = array (
'some.ext',
'next.ext',
'more.ext'
);
$directory = "/home/user/public_html/";
$files = glob($directory . "*.*");
foreach($files as $file)
{
if (!in_array($file, $myFiles)) {
unlink($directory . $file);
}
}
(Well what I gone through a lot of posts here on stackoverflow and other sites. I need a simple task, )
I want to provide my user facility to click on upload file from his account, then select a directory and get the list of all the files names inside that directory.
According to the posts here what I got is I have to pre-define the directory name, which I want to avoid.
Is there a simple way to click a directory and get all the files names in an array in PHP? many thanks in advance!
$dir = isset($_POST['uploadFile']) ? _SERVER['DOCUMENT_ROOT'].'/'.$_POST['uploadFile'] : null;
if ($_POST['uploadFile'] == true)
{
foreach (glob($dir."/*.mp3") as $filename) {
echo $filename;
}
}
I will go ahead and post a sample of code I am currently using, with a few changes, although I would normally tell you to look it up on google and try it first.
if ($handle = opendir($dir)) {
while (false !== ($file = readdir($handle))) {
echo $file;
}
closedir($handle);
}
This will display the entire contents of a directory... including: ".", "..", any sub-directories, and any hidden files. I am sure you can figure out a way to hide those if it is not desirable.
<?php
$files=glob("somefolder/*.*");
print_r($files);
?>
Take a look at the Directory class (here) and readdir()
I'm confused what do you want, all files or only some files?
But if you want array of folders and files, do this
$folders = array();
$files = array();
$dir = opendir("path");
for($i=0;false !== ($file = readdir($dir));$i++){
if($file != "." and $file != ".."){
if(is_file($file)
$files[] = $file;
else
$folders[] = $file;
}
}
And if only some folders you want, later you can delete them from array
I always use this amazing code to get file lists:
$THE_PATTERN=$_SERVER["DOCUMENT_ROOT"]."/foldername/*.jpg";
$TheFilesList = #glob($THE_PATTERN);
$TheFilesTotal = #count($TheFilesList);
$TheFilesTotal = $TheFilesTotal - 1;
$TheFileTemp = "";
for ($TheFilex=0; $TheFilex<=$TheFilesTotal; $TheFilex++)
{
$TheFileTemp = $TheFilesList[$TheFilex];
echo $TheFileTemp . "<br>"; // here you can get full address of files (one by one)
}
