I am trying to understand the MVC method with the use of OOP. However it seems like I've hit the wall here.
I am trying to pass multiple objects to the view. But all I can do so far is pass just one object. The ideal result would be passing multiple objects, while keeping the names that are assigned to them in the controller.
The render, start and end functions in the View class go something like this:
public function render($viewName, $data){
$viewAry = explode('/', $viewName);
$viewString = implode(DS, $viewAry);
if(file_exists(ROOT . DS . 'app' . DS . 'views' . DS . $viewString . '.php')){
include(ROOT . DS . 'app' . DS . 'views' . DS . $viewString . '.php');
include(ROOT . DS . 'app' . DS . 'views' . DS . 'layouts' . DS . $this->_layout . '.php');
}else{
die('The view \"' . $viewName . '\" does not exist.');
}
}
public function content($type){
if($type == 'head'){
return $this->_head;
}elseif ($type == 'body'){
return $this->_body;
}
return false;
}
public function start($type){
$this->_outputBuffer = $type;
ob_start();
}
public function end(){
if($this->_outputBuffer == 'head'){
$this->_head = ob_get_clean();
}elseif($this->_outputBuffer == 'body'){
$this->_body = ob_get_clean();
}else{
die('You must first run the start method.');
}
}
And this is how would the controller look like:
public function indexAction(){
$items = $this->PortalModel->getItems();
$collections = $this->PortalModel->getCollections();
$this->view->render('home/index', $items);
}
So this is how I get the one $data object to the view and loop trough it.
But how could I store multiple results from the database to the view?
You should pass an array of variables into view instead of one variable.
public function indexAction(){
$variables = [
'items' => $this->PortalModel->getItems(),
'collections' => $this->PortalModel->getCollections()
];
$this->view->render('home/index', $variables);
}

This issue is very similar to the one mentioned here.
My concern is that I setup my config through puphpet so I am not sure if I follow along with the answer to that question if I will make it worse. Does anyone have any idea how I can fix this?
EDIT: I ended up following the steps in the answer I linked in my question and it all seems to have been fixed. Not sure if there is a way to mark this question as complete since there is technically no answer here. Please mark it as closed or answered.
This means that your web server is not configured to interpret .php files with the PHP handler. For Apache 2, have a look at item 8 here:
http://php.net/manual/en/install.unix.apache2.php
For nginx, see item 7 here:
http://php.net/manual/en/install.unix.nginx.php
The title is really explicit, but I am going to give an example:
class Foo
{
public function __construct($param1, $param2) {
echo 'Class name: ' . __CLASS__ . "\n" .
'param1 = ' . $param1 . "\n" .
'param2 = ' . $param2;
}
}
$class_name = 'Foo';
$params =
[
'content1',
'content2'
];
Having this code, how can I create an instance of Foo, using the parameters in $params.
I know I can do
$class = new $class_name($params);
But this would pass the parameters as one array, I would like it to expand the parameters. The following would be the behavior I would like:
$class = new $class_name($param[0], $param[1]);
Thank you!
If you have 5.6:
$instance = new $class(...$args);
If not use reflection:
$reflect = new ReflectionClass($class);
$instance = $reflect->newInstanceArgs($args);
I hesitate to post this because really you should design to either accept an array of parameters or individual parameters. However, here are to hackish ways:
Using another function:
public function init($params) {
echo 'Class name: ' . __CLASS__ . "\n" .
'param1 = ' . $params[0] . "\n" .
'param2 = ' . $params[1];
}
public function __construct($param1, $param2=null) {
if(!is_array($param1)) {
$param1 = func_get_args();
}
call_user_func_array(array($this, 'init'), $param1);
}
Doing it all in the __construct:
public function __construct($param1, $param2=null) {
if(!is_array($param1)) {
$param1 = func_get_args();
}
echo 'Class name: ' . __CLASS__ . "\n" .
'param1 = ' . $param1[0] . "\n" .
'param2 = ' . $param1[1];
}
I have a class to create forms and a function that gets the form name form action and form type from the view files. It works fine and as expected, but when I call those variables in another function to create the actual form and to add the values to the they return as blank.
class Form {
private $formname;
private $formaction;
private $formtype;
function Form($form_name, $actionfile, $formtype) {
$this->formname = $form_name;
$this->formaction = $actionfile;
$this->formtype = $formtype;
}
This is where the functions values get stored in the private variables.
When I try to call them in another function they return as blank.
function formstart() {
$enc = 'enctype="multipart/form-data"';
$returnstring = '<form name="' . $this->formname . '" id="' . $this->formname . '" ' . $enc . ' method="' . $this->formtype . '" action="' . $this->formaction . '">';
}
Am I missing something ?
Your class must be namespaced to use that constructor function. Instead, use the method __construct()
class Form {
private $formname;
private $formaction;
private $formtype;
function __construct($form_name, $actionfile, $formtype) {
$this->formname = $form_name;
$this->formaction = $actionfile;
$this->formtype = $formtype;
}
}
Documentation
You're writing PHP 4.x OOP.
Try this:
class Form {
private $formname;
private $formaction;
private $formtype;
public function __construct($form_name, $action_file, $form_type) {
$this->formname = $form_name;
$this->formaction = $action_file;
$this->formtype = $form_type;
}
public function formstart() {
$enc = 'enctype="multipart/form-data"';
return '<form name="' . $this->formname . '" id="' . $this->formname . '" ' . $enc . ' method="' . $this->formtype . '" action="' . $this->formaction . '">';
}
}
$f = new Form('name', 'action', 'type');
echo $f->formstart();
