MacOS High Sierra Drush only gives 2 options - php

So today I was installing Drush via Composer. it was completely installed according to terminal but in /usr/local/bin there is no Drush folder.
I tried before and then I tried with Composer as well, but since that failed I tried via Homebrew but since I work with MAMP, it only gave 2 options (cancel and drush) and yea then I uninstalled that and tried again with composer even did a fresh install.
I did the "composer global show -P" command and It's in /users/mymacname/.composer then it outputs a giant list like:
composer-plugin-api 1.1.0 The Composer Plugin API
so when I go to that location, there is a .composer folder,
when I go in that folder - vendor - bin - there are:
drush
drush.complete.sh
drush.launcher
drush.php
php-parse
psysh
thats all there is and when I type drush, or drush status it gives "-bash: drush: command not found
How can I solve this?
Greetings Ditger

I think you missed the step where you have to add the export to your .bash_profile
export PATH=$PATH:/Users/[username]/drush
this is of course specific to my install, you will have to find where your drush is installed and appropriately add the export path

Laravel command not found. But it is added to my $PATH on Ubuntu

So I know there are alot of simmular issues but none if them are exactly the same,
I want to start my first laravel project but, my terminal tells me command not found,
I installed composer from the website and when I run composer I can see that it works perfectally with no issue, when running composer global require "laravel/installer" I get this in response :
Info from https://repo.packagist.org: #StandWithUkraine
Using version ^4.2 for laravel/installer
./composer.json has been updated
Running composer update laravel/installer
Loading composer repositories with package information
Updating dependencies
Nothing to modify in lock file
Installing dependencies from lock file (including require-dev)
Nothing to install, update or remove
Generating autoload files
9 packages you are using are looking for funding.
Use the `composer fund` command to find out more!
This tells me that laravel is indeed installed but has not updates but when I run command laravel the response is laravel: command not found,
I have added composer to my $PATH already.
This is why I am posting this issue because all the posts I find says to add composer to your $PATH but mine is already but its still a issue.
PHP is also installed on my machine
I am running linux Ubuntu 22.04 LTS
I'll write the answer here so you can close the question. As #geertjanknapen said in the comment if you can install your project the run
composer create-project laravel/laravel your-app-name
cd /your-app-name
php artisan serve
You must have a local server running also, once you have run php artisan serve then just go to http://127.0.0.1:8000/ and you'll see Laravel's home screen. (NOTE 8000 is the default port, so put yours there if you've changed it).

error using composer to install cakePHP 3

i am lost...
i am trying to do it the right way and am following the Quick Start Guide for installing cakePHP 3 on my ubuntu machine.
Got composer installed. Directory is /var/www/cakephp
and am trying to issue:
php composer.phar create-project --prefer-dist cakephp/app mayapp
or
composer create-project --prefer-dist cakephp/app may app
then i am simply getting:
[InvalidArgumentException]
Could not find package cakephp/app with stability stable.
i do not have a clue what i am doing wrong. Any suggestions?
cakephp/app exists on https://packagist.org, and the command looks ok to me.
Which PHP version are you using? That package is only available with PHP 5.4.16 or later, so you must update if you want to use CakePHP.
However, it is a good idea to only use the same PHP version of your public hosting, using a newer version will lead to problems when deploying your code. If your webspace or public server does not have the latest PHP 5.6 running, ask for an update.
I got same issue. But, as previous answer, myapp does not exists on packagist.org, so, you must use laravel/laravel instead, and, after created, rename the new laravel folder to your desired name and move to htdocs (for xampp) or www (for wamp), then, and I do not know why, go to : localhost/laravel/public/
and replace laravel with the name you gave to your project folder instead the laravel one.
You will see Laravel 5 fonts will appear on screen.
That's means Laravel is running.
Hey Please try these steps.
Download XAMPP Server.
Install XAMPP server.
Go to ..\xampp\php\php.ini and open.
Add this line (extension=php_intl.dll) or if exist uncomment.
Download Composer setup from https://github.com/composer/windows-setup/releases/
Install composer and give php.exe file in path
Open cmd and check now php version using command php -v. if its showing php version its means its working.
Now open cmd and cd on xampp\htdocs folder & run command composer create-project --prefer-dist cakephp/app app_name
Finished folder created in htdocs.
Hope this is helpful for you.

Can't run phpunit tests from command line

I am trying to run unit tests in a new laravel 5 application, using the phpunit framework. In the root path of my laravel application I ru the following command:
./vendor/bin/phpunit /tests/ExampleTest.php
And then I get the following message:
You need to set up the project dependencies using the following commands:
wget http://getcomposer.org/composer,phar
php composer.phar install
I already have composer installed in may system and I install Laravel 5 using composer. Isn't phpunit installed when I install a new laravel 5 application? If not, how can I install it in a existent laravel 5 application?
I known that I can also install phpunit globaly and resolve the problem. But maybe it will be a duplication since I have all the phpunit code already in may laravel application.
I had the same problem and it had a specific solution that may apply to other people. I store my files in Dropbox, and the vendor/bin/phpunit file should be an symlink like this
$ ls -lo vendor/bin/phpunit
lrwxr-xr-x vendor/bin/phpunit -> ../phpunit/phpunit/phpunit
However, Dropbox will occasionally replace symlinks with the original file, and this will cause the error above. The behaviour is inconsistent, and with relative symlinks seems to break when 2 machines are accessing Dropbox at the same time. Fixing the symlink worked for me or you could make a new symlink directly to the vendor/phpunit/phpunit/phpunit outside of Dropbox and run that.
Edit: Nowadays I exclude Vendor and node_modules from Dropbox - and simply run composer install when necessary. This works really well, and also deals with the hassle of syncing so many files on Dropbox. What you can do is go into the folder and delete all the files. Wait for Dropbox to sync. Then mark the folder as excluded. Finally, run composer install and you get the contents as you need. (Delete + composer install often solves other issues too).
Running composer install did nothing in my case. However, removing vendor folder and then calling composer install fixed it.
You need to have Composer installed and run composer install or composer update in your application to install the different packages listed in your composer.json.
When you install your Laravel application it doesn't install the packages right away.
You can verify the packages are installed by looking in the vendor directory of your application and check that phpunit is in there.
did you install phpunit globally? I recommend you do it.
just type in your laravel's root directory (e.g. /var/www)
cd /var/www
phpunit
if you what to test just one file, you can do something like this:
phpunit tests/ExampleTest.php
Unit Test:
D:\xampp\htdocs\Samplemed\vendor\bin>
phpunit ../../tests/Unit/Company/CompanyUnitTest
Feature Test:
D:\xampp\htdocs\Samplemed\vendor\bin>phpunit
../../tests/Feature/Company/CompanyFeatureTest
Please try this. its working fine.

Installing Laravel

I am on a windows 8 machine and I'm trying to learn laravel. I copy and pasted my PHP folder from C:\xampp to C:\php, installed composer, ran composer install then composer create-project laravel/laravel learning-laravel. So far everything was created so I went into the directory and tried to use 'php artisan serve' and got the following error.
C:\Users\denni_000\learning-laravel>php artisan serve
Warning: require(C:\Users\denni_000\learning-laravel\bootstrap/../vendor/autoloa
d.php): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in C:\Users\denni_000\l
earning-laravel\bootstrap\autoload.php on line 17
Why you copied php folder
download composer install it.
download laravel latest version and store it on your xampp/htdocs/laravel
and run cmd with composer install command
For more follow install laravel on windows xampp
or Laravel 4.1 installation with composer in xampp
For windows Simply download Laragon which includes latest php 5.6.7, Apache, Mysql, Redis, Memcached an alternative to Xampp or Mamp with small size. Easy to install laravel and create project with auto create virtual host by it. Thank you.
U need to go to the directory where laravel is installed and run the following command.
composer update
Install Laravel 4.2 with composer:
sudo composer.phar create-project laravel/laravel project-directory-name 4.2 --prefer-dist
Here is a different way to setup laravel, may be you guys will like it
Step 1:
Clone https://github.com/laravel/laravel or you may download zip also.
Step 2:
Navigate to downloaded folder in command prompt and run composer install
Step 3:
open the folder and rename .env.example to .env and update the credentials mentioned in file.
Step 4:
After these steps if you navigate to the directory from web-server it will cause an error No supported encrypter found. The cipher and / or key length are invalid. to fix this just run php artisan key:generate
Done!
Hope you guys like this way :)
You need to install all the laravel required dependency.
To do that, you need to tell composer to install everything needed.
Below is the command to use to install that's required in laravel composer.json.
composer install
Follow the installation guide from Laravel
Install Composer:
Like Laravel.com says: "Make sure to place the ~/.composer/vendor/bin directory in your PATH so the laravel executable can be located by your system."
Type the following statement in the command line:
composer global require "laravel/installer=~1.1"
Create a fresh Laravel project in a specified directory with the "laravel new" command:
laravel new blog
You can also create a Laravel project using composer, like such:
composer create-project laravel/laravel --prefer-dist
If you want to learn laravel I seriously recommend you use laravel homestead with vagrant.
For this you need to:
Install virtualbox.
Install vagrant.
Install git.
Install ssh.exe (Download msysgit and copy the content of bin folder to git bin folder).
Install Homestead on Vagrant (Follow the steps on laravel/homestead documentation page).
Install Laravel on Homestead (Follow the steps on laravel/installation documentation page).
This method apply to Windows, Linux or Mac, only change the step 4 on linux or mac.

Installing laravel on mac os via composer

I need to use lavarel on mac os. I first installed MAMP. After that, following instructions on laravel.com, I installed composer globally via homebrew. Now, when I change my directory to /Applications/ MAMP/htdocs and try composer create-project laravel/laravel myname on the terminal, nothing happens even after half an hour.
I also tried downloading lavarel-master manually, putting the content in htdocs and composer install .Again nothing in .5 hour.
I have done composer self-update and checked composer diag and all is OK.
Upon trying which php ,i get /Applications/MAMP/bin/php/php5.5.10/bin/php
I also restarted mac and tried the commands again, but same result.
Please help ,I am new to php and don't know how to proceed.
PS:Upon trying composer install in laravel master directory the following appears on terminal:
Loading composer repositories with package information
Installing dependencies (including require-dev) and then only the cursor blinks, nothing happening. Is that a trouble with my composer or laravel installation?
