I'm trying to generate the statistics based on a polymorphic relationship. Each database which it can relate to has an identifier column, so I would like to ideally group the data by identifier (once I have the rest working).
I believe you can't use the with function on a polymorphic relationship, but I have attached my code because I think it illustrates what I'm trying to do quite well.

I have three models
User
State
School
I have established the following relationships between them
a. School - User (A user can enroll in many schools)
In User Model

Now, I know how to query models with immediate relationship. For example, I can get the users associated with a school and vice-versa. I can also get the schools in a state.
My Question
How do I get all users associated with schools in a given state (using a query)? Assuming all we have is just the name of a state.
And probably get all schools the users are associated with and the date(time) in which there were associated with the schools?
This is what I have done. The second query is not giving me an answer

You should see the related models in the relations array attribute
$school= App\Models\School::with('User', 'State')->get();
Using a whereHas you can get all users that belong to schools with the given state_id.
$state = State::find(1);
$users = User::whereHas('schools', function ($query) use ($state) {

I have two models: Game and Game_Assignment. Game_Assignment tells whose job it is to play a game.
I am trying to count the number of Game_Assignment's that a user has their id on that also have a specific value on the Game model that it relates to. I'll just get into the Models/the code
Game Model Relationship:

Where things are going wrong (in a queue job, if that makes a difference)

None of these work, and the first one I showed threw an error:

When using the query builder of your Game_Assignment model, you cannot simply switch context to the query builder of Game. You can only call ->game() or ->game after you retrieved one or many model instances of Game_Assignment with first() or get().
So, in your particular case, you were looking for whereHas('game', $callback) (where $callback is a function that applies constraints on the foreign table) in order to add a constraint on the foreign table:

I am working on a project where I have two Models Trains and Cars, to this model I have a belonging Route.
I want to make a query and check if the routeable_type is App\Car than with the selected routeable_id to get the data from the Car. And if the routeable_type is Train then with the ID to get the data from the Tran.
So my models go like this:
Train:

I was faced with a similar issue though I failed to follow the correct design initially and was forced to query the many possible relations then wrote custom logic after to collect the relation types and ids then do another query and assign them back through iteration. It was ugly but worked... very similar to how Eloquent does things normally.

You should use 2 different queries, for each model.
This will be better, code wise as well as performance wise. also if both models have similar fields you should merge them to 1 table and add a 'type' column.
and put non-similar fields in a 'meta' column.

By using whereHas, you can do:
$users = User::whereHas('cityareas.area', function ($query) {
$query->where('name', 'South');
})->get();
Jeune Guerrier solution is perfect, but you can use with() method of eloquent If you also need cityarea collection along with users collection.
$users = User::with('cityareas')->whereHas('cityareas.area', function ($query) {
$query->where('name', 'South');
})->get();
This is exactly what the belongs to many relationships is built for.
You simply have to do, Cityarea::where('name', 'South')->first()->users;
If you want to do something further with the query, e.g. sort by users created at, you can do
Cityarea::where('name', 'South')->first()->users()->orderBy('creaated_at', desc')->get();
Note that if there is no such Cityarea with name 'South', the ->first() query above will return null and therefore will fail to fetch the users.
A more performant way to do it programmatically is to use the whereHas approach as discussed in the comments below.

According to my knowledge, eager load with method run 2nd query. That's why you can't achieve what you want with eager loading with method.
I think use join method in combination with relationship method is the solution. The following solution is fully tested and work well.

If you want to add groupBy method to the query, you have to pay special attention to your orderBy clause. Because in Sql nature, Group By clause run first before Order By clause. See detail this problem at this stackoverflow question.
So if you add groupBy method, you have to use orderByRaw method and should be implemented like the following.

If you have a hasOne() relationship, you can sort all the records by doing:

This sorts all the channels records by the newest replies (assuming you have only one reply per channel.) This is not your case, but someone may be looking for something like this (as I was.)
