Unable to start XAMPP properly on my Mac OS - php

I am trying to install XAMPP so that I can work it with PHP. But I have failed to open it, however I realised that other people downloading it, it comes as a dmg extension but mine comes as a bz2 extension. Is this the error? If so, how can I solve it? if it's not, would anyone share with me whats causing the error and how to solve it?
Thanks!

You can go check their repo https://sourceforge.net/projects/xampp/files/
you can find .dmg in "XAMPP Mac OS X/" folder

You can change the file extension of the downloaded file manually to dmg and it will work as it should.
I recommend to download the VM version.
if you encounter the following error: "Error starting “XAMPP” stack: Cannot calculate MAC Address" when you trying to start the server, you can solve it by updating the Bitnami HyperKit file.
detailed instructions in the following link:
https://pookidevs.com/solved-error-starting-xampp-stack-cannot-calculate-mac-address/

On macOS, simply change the extension from .bz2 to .dmg so the installer mentioned should be changed to xxxxx.dmg then you can install it right away just double click on it.

my wamp 3.0.6 is not starting giving apache error.Can someone pleaserecommend?

I want to install latest PHP 7 version so I was installing it in my vista homepremium 32 bit. But it is giving Apache error. My Apache is not working. Can someone please help or recommend me another version for PHP 7 so as I can install Laravel.
If you have an issue in the httpd.conf or any files included by it there are a couple of ways to find out what the problem is
First look at your Windows Event Viewer. Click on the Windows link in the left and menu and then Applications. Look for messages from Apache with the red error icon.
Secondly, open a command window, then CD into \wamp\bin\apache\apache2.x.y\bin, replace x,y with your actual version. Now you can run this command to get Apache(httpd) to vaidate the httpd.conf file.
httpd.exe -t
This should give errors with line numbers related to the http.conf file. It stops on the first error, so you will have to keep running it and fixing the error and then run it again until it gives the all OK message.

XAMPP in OS X El Capitan - oci_connect(): OCIEnvNlsCreate() failed

This issue started just after I upgraded my Mac to OS X El Capitan. Before that it was working just fine.
I am using XAMPP and Oracle Instant Client was properly set up to connect with Oracle DB. I followed the instructions mentioned here while installing (click on the question "How do I activate the OCI8/Oracle extension for PHP?").
But, after I upgraded my OS to OS X El Capitan, it started to show this warning,
Warning: oci_connect(): OCIEnvNlsCreate() failed. There is something wrong with your system - please check that DYLD_LIBRARY_PATH includes the directory with Oracle Instant Client libraries
I am searching for solution all over the internet (not only SO), for the last few days and the nearest match I found was this : https://stackoverflow.com/a/20670810/5645769. So, I tried to edit the file org.apache.httpd.plist, as suggessted by the answer. But I was having this error :
You don't own the file "org.apache.httpd.plist" and don't have permission to write to it. You can duplicate this document and edit the duplicate. Only the duplicate will include your changes.
I asked about that to OP and his reply didn't make any help to resolve the issue. So my search for solutions continued. After a few more days of search, I found this post https://stackoverflow.com/a/32910408/5645769. So I followed the instructions to disable SIP (System Intregrity Protection) and I was then able to add write access to the file and containing folder for my account (and also administrator). After that oci_connect() started working again.
But when I disabled the SIP again following the same answer, the same error comes again. I am not sure, but it seems like there is something happening with other file permissions which oci_connect() is trying to use but it can access only when SIP is disabled.
Currently I am working with keeping the SIP disabled (not sure, what harm it may cause), I need a solution which will work while keeping the SIP enabled.
I am spending many days with this. Any help will be highly appreciated.
/System/Library/LaunchDaemons/org.apache.httpd.plist is only for controlling the behaviour of the Apache server built in to OS X.
To set DYLD_LIBRARY_PATH for the XAMPP version of Apache you'll need to edit its startup script:
sudo nano /Applications/XAMPP/xamppfiles/apache2/ctl.sh
On the second line of the file, after #!/bin/sh you can add whatever you need to:
#!/bin/sh
DYLD_LIBRARY_PATH=/path/to/your/library/files
ERROR=0
HTTPD_STATUS=""
HTTPD_PIDFILE=/Applications/XAMPP/xamppfiles/logs/httpd.pid
HTTPD="/Applications/XAMPP/xamppfiles/bin/httpd -f /Applications/XAMPP/xamppfiles/etc/httpd.conf"
DO NOT disable system integrity protection. It's there for a reason.

How to enable oci in xampp 5.6.3?

I am facing some issue while starting Apache server via XAMPP. I have installed XAMPP Version 5.6.3.
When I start the Apache server from xampp control panel, an error message is displayed as shown below:
On clicking 'OK' button, another dialog box is displayed as shown:
The thing is I wanted to use OCI instead of mysql. so I have commented out the mysql extensions and uncommented the OCI extension in php.ini file.
The php_oci8_12c.dll file is the only file available in the extensions (ext) folder of php in xampp. Hence I included the line in the php.ini as shown in the above image.
Since then I am getting this error.
I have installed instant client 12.1 as well but no luck. I also tried copying the OCI.dll from instantclient_12_1 and pasting it in c:/xampp/php and c:/xampp/apache/bin. The error still persists.
Need help..
UPDATE: I removed other oracle paths in PATH of environment variables, keeping only the instantclient path. Now I am getting this error..
Well, I've installed XAMPP 1.8.2, PHP 5.4 and Apache 2.0, and I use php_oci8_11g.dll and works fine.
You are trying use php_oci8_12g.dll, I recommend you read this link http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/articles/dsl/technote-php-instant-12c-2088811.html with especifications for run oci12g.
I solved the issue after stuck 2-3 days .
Before follow steps Some things to remmember .
1- I am using win 8.1 64 bit .
2- Using Xampp 5.6.31 32 bit .
3- Using instaclient 12.2.0.1 64 bit (Because my win 8.1 is 64 Bit ) .
Now steps are below -
Step 1 - Download xampp 5.6.31 32 bit and install it .
Step 2 - Download and install oracle 11g R2
Step 3 - Download and install OTN (oracle instaclient 12.2.0.1 )
Extract all files in any drive in my case i have extract in C:\oracle\instaclient12.2.0.1
Add (C:\oracle\instaclient12.2.0.1 ) it to the path variables of the system. and also add new variable under variable of system with name TNS_ADMIN and put same path (C:\oracle\instaclient12.2.0.1 ) in its value .
Its time to set PHP.INI here uncomment following (see image below)
PHP.ini setup
Copy 3 files from C:\oracle\instaclient12.2.0.1 oci.dll,oraociei12.dll and oraons.dll to xampp apache\bin . by this step Unable to load dynamic library issue has been resolved .
Unable to load dynamic library issue solution
Now restart Apache on xampp and check info.php on browser . OCI8 module will appear there enable .
Enjoy !!!.
I solved the issue. The problem was that I was trying to use a 64 bit DLL(php_oci8_12g.dll) in a 32 bit PHP. I downloaded a 32 bit instantClient and it works now! :-)
instantclient-basic-nt-12.1.0.2.0.zip
I had a problem related to OCI8 and XAMPP for days in a row, the problem was shown as:
Fatal error: Call to undefined function oci_connect()
I was able to correct it using the php that comes by default with XAMPP. I'm using windows 10 64 bits as well, but used xampp-win32-7.3.2-0-VC15 (php 7.3.2). To summarize, I was able to get a correct configuration by doing everything with 32 bits versions (except the o.s). The full story and how I've done it:
If you go to your xampp/php directory through cmd, in my case it was "C:\xampp\php", and start the php by the simple command "php" it will probably show what dlls are not being found in the etc folder or which of those are not Win 32 compatible. If you get this problem, you will not be able to see the OCI8 page when opening a phpinfo() page:
If that's the case, with win 32 compatibility problems or not finding the dlls that you are certain are there, you should unistall XAMPP and reinstall it using a x32 version. The phpinfo page will show x86 Architecture. Remember to remove in the path variables any source that miss locate your php in use, the point here is to use the one given by default in XAMPP. If you need by any reason to use another php installation, remember to use x86 architecture.
If you need an updated OCI8 dll you can download it on https://pecl.php.net/package/oci8 , but remember to check the Thread Safety compatibility, you can find it on your phpinfo page as well. In my case it was enough to use the one provided by XAMPP.
After this, you have to enable the extension:
extension=oci8_12c
in the php.ini configuration file. It was enough for me to enable only this one, although some people suggests to also enable extension=pdo_oci. My suggestion is to try this only if you failed to install with the path here shown. It's also good to check if you are set in the correct path regarding the extensions, in my case:
extension_dir="C:\xampp\php\ext"
After this, you have to download the Oracle Instant Client. Since you are using x86 architecture (you must use this one), you need to find a 32-bit version of the OIC, but is also important to check which one is compatible with the extension you uncommented. In my case, of oci8_12c, it was instantclient-basic-nt-12.2.
The final step is to unzip it to a folder, like "C:\instantclient_12_2" and add it to the path variables of the system.
Reload apache and check if the OCI8 is shown correcly.

"The specified procedure could not be found" IIS 6.0 and PHP5

I am trying to make PHP5 work over IIS 6.0 on Windows server 2003 and i am following this steps:
http://www.iisadmin.co.uk/?p=4
The thing is, there's no file named "php5isapi.dll" inside the php folder, so I am using php5isapi.dll instead. Is it correct? Or should I try to download the php5isapi.dll from somewhere.
Well, then, I keep following the steps and when I try to execute my php file, I get this message:
The specified procedure could not be found.
What am I doing wrong?
Thanks.
UPDATE
I downloaded php5isapi.dll and tried to make it work with it but i am getting this error:
The specified module could not be found.
Also, after any change, i restart the Default Web Site clicking on stop and play.
UPDATE 2
Now, after rebooting, when trying to access the PHP file, the browser shows a 500 error:
The page cannot be displayed
I noticed that "php5isapi.ll" is no longer available for the last versions of PHP as pointed in here:
Why is php5isapi.dll missing after installing PHP for Windows?
Therefor, what i did was following this tutorial in order to do it with FastCGI
http://www.iis.net/learn/application-frameworks/install-and-configure-php-applications-on-iis/using-fastcgi-to-host-php-applications-on-iis-60
I found it on this comment:
Why is php5isapi.dll missing after installing PHP for Windows?
After restarting the server, it finally worked.

How to set up internal browser for Aptana on Linux

I downloaded the Aptana_Studio_Setup_Linux.zip package, unpacked it and run ./AptanaStudio. It starts fine, but reports one problem:
The embedded browser widget for this editor cannot be created. It is either not available for your operating system or the system needs to be configured in order to support embedded browser.
After that, it opens the "Welcome page" in external browser (Mozilla), but when I click on a link to install PHP support it does not open the destination target. No wonder, because the link is in format: com.aptana....etc. I.e. written in reverse. I assume such links only work with internal browser.
If I look into details, I get these error messages:

etc. I hope this is enough.
I tried to set the env. variable:
export MOZILLA_FIVE_HOME=/usr/lib/mozilla/
However, it only changes the error message to:
No more handles [NS_InitEmbedding /usr/lib/mozilla/ error -2147221164]

For start I really want to have PHP working, but I'd also like to fix the whole internal browser issue in the end.
I happened to come across this: https://groups.google.com/forum/#!msg/xmind/5SjPTy0MmEo/PbPi0OGzqPwJ
Which advised running:
sudo apt-get install libwebkitgtk-1.0-0
should solve the problem. It worked for me so I figured I'd share here.
FWIW, I ended up here while trying to get the Play! Framework working on Ubuntu 13.04. using the Scala-IDE. So far, everything seems to be working...
You need to download and install XULRunner from mozilla.org, and point MOZILLA_FIVE_HOME to that directory.
After installing xulrunner you need to set this:
MOZILLA_FIVE_HOME=/usr/lib/xulrunner
You will have to install XULRunner then edit the eclipse.ini.
After installing xulrunner, adding the following line in the eclipse.ini solved the problem of "No more handles" issue.
-Dorg.eclipse.swt.browser.XULRunnerPath=/opt/eclipse/xulrunner/
I am using eclipse 3.63 and ubuntu 12.04.
Edit: getting internal browser to work is NOT required in order to get PHP support in Aptana. Just install PHP support from Help, Software updates menu.
If this is the problem I think you're having, just installing Firefox 2 (alongside FF3) should fix the issue. It happens because Aptana can only use FF2 at the moment. Hopefully they'll fix this soon.
If you're on Ubuntu, it's really just a case of:
sudo apt-get install firefox-2
Naturally, the process will vary on different distributions.
