This is what I understand from your question-
You have index.php which renders to templates.tpl template and shop.php with some menus(Not clear if both have the same menus or different)
Are you rendering shop.php output to some template? like shop.tpl, if so..
You can have a structure something like
templates.tpl
{include file="menu.tpl"}
<!-- Templates body -->
shop.tpl
{include file="menu.tpl"}
<!-- Shop body -->

I have a .php file which uses some WP functions e.g. get_stylesheet_directory_uri(), query_posts, etc... and $wpdb of course.
File it self return JSON data so it is not intended for viewing on its own.
I'm not looking for template, or clicking around in WP dashboard, I just want to know where is the good place in WP file structure to put the .php file and expect WP functions and object to be available.
And also what do I need to include at the top?
You can create custom template in theme root directory or in child theme (child theme is important when you are creating custom template).
template should contain template name, header and footer function.
eg. custom-tpl.php
<?php
Template Name: My Custom Temlate
get_header();
//your other functions and content goes here
get_footer();
after creating template it will appear in your edit page template section under drop down. select custom template for your page and view page you will get your output
You can create a custom page template.
Inside the page template:
<?php
global $wpdb;
[here you will write your code]
?>
On the front pages where you want the json output, use this url
http://domainname.com/wp-content/themes/themename/custompagetemplatename.php
Use your domain name (domainname), theme name (themename) and theme template file name (custompagetemplatename) in place of example names in the url. This url will return you the output for your code.
About this comment in your template:
<?php
/* Template Name: Full Width Page */
?>
You do not need a template name in the header of your file unless you want to use this as a template for pages in wordpress.
I have an HTML template which I am trying to convert into PHP for WordPress.
The homepage has been converted and is shown properly. Next, the menu in navbar is about, the page that needs to be converted in PHP.
I have just added get_header() at the top and get_footer() below. In between these two I have added the HTML content for my entire page.
Then I tried to provide the link for the menu that I created, but the content of about page is not visible.
Do I need to add any other line for that page apart from get_header and get_footer? Or is something wrong with the link?
Clearly I can't understand what your are trying to say. I think you want to create a page that will show your about menu content.
So in your theme directory create a page name page.php and use get_header(); in first and below get_footer and where you want to show page content write the_content();. like this
<?php
get_header(); ?>
<div><?php the_content(); ?></div>
<?php get_footer(); ?>
after that follow the url of # Sajid Anwar. because for dynamic data you have to create pages(home,about etc) from wordpress dashboard and in menu section add these pages as navigation menu to menu.
I have created html pages and trying to convert into wordpress theme,how to link html one page to other page in wordpress menu bar
sample code :
Features
this code is not working,it 's showing page not found.how to make this link in wordpress using php code.
Firstly Create Page "Features" from wp-admin.
Create template for this page.
http://codex.wordpress.org/Stepping_into_Templates
To set this page in menu Go in "Menu" section in WordPress.
http://codex.wordpress.org/Appearance_Menus_Screen
To view this menu in fronted use wp_nav_menu()
Take example template from your theme.
This is file in theme ending with -page.
Change template name in head of a file.
Then remember about the_loop all should be inside a loop to work correctly with many pages.
Put html there, also in header.php attach css to this html.
Page structure is like, header in the up, then page and then footer.
Remember to preserve good html structure - divs beginning and ending.
Then you create a page with content ( which is presented in the_loop ) , which has its own url address.
You can set url naming of pages in settings -> permalinks, you may need to write to .htaccess file.
Then you have direct url to page. You can use it in code like this:
echo bloginfo('url'). 'nameofpage';
All to do is create a template and assign it to page ( on page edit page template option ).
You can use pages or posts for this, i prefer pages.
Create new pages or posts and get their ID.
For linking its:
Get link with this:
get_permalink( $yourPostOrPageID ); // only get; not echo
Otherwise
Wordpress homepage link:
get_bloginfo('home');
Category or custom taxonomy term link:
get_term_link( $term, $taxonomy );
I need to create a page which is an exact copy of my index.php page. I have duplicated index.php and renamed it page-newindex.php and included
/*
Template Name: homepage
*/
at the top of the page so I can select it as a template when creating a new page.
The problem occurs when the page is rendered. Becuase it is a 'page', a containing div which looks like this: <div id="page" class="hfeed"> in included which all of the other html is inserted into. This is causing major formatting problems.
How do I get rid of this containing div??
<div id="page" class="hfeed"> this is added in header.php.
If you remove it from header.php then it will affect all the pages. So create a custom header for homepage template.
Copy header.php and paste in a new php file & name it as header-home.php
In the header-home.php, remove page id and hfeed class from div. ie just keep <div>.
In homepage template, instead of get_header() call get_header('home');
With this you have a separate header from which you can remove page id from div.
Hope this helps.
I am a newbie in Yii Framework and creating a CRM which is module based.
Using different tutorials I am able to create my own theme, but now I am stucked at one point.
In my theme, the upper <nav> and left <nav> remains the same throughout the app, until user is logged in. That's why I made it a part of my main.php, but in the login page there are no buttons to show, just simple login form with 2 textfields.
How can I implement this form in my application using custom themes?
I have tried to define a layout in that particular action but not succeeded. Any help would be appreciated.
Using a custom layout for your view is the right way to go.
You can either set the layout in the controller action or in the view.
$this->layout = "//layouts/mylayout";
Note that the default layouts column1.php and column2.php also use the main.php layout file.
Try this step by step :
Create New theme
You can create a new theme and add this to the directory
Application_Root/themes.
Look at the themes/classic directory to get an an idea of the structure of the directory.
The important file (at this stage) is :-
Application_Root/themes/views/layouts/main.php
Customise your theme contents
Copy the css, image, js files etc to the correct directory and change the main.php file to your liking. For example, if your main.php says
<link href="css/mystyle.css" rel="stylesheet">
Then you will have a file
Application_Root/css/mystyle.css
Create the content placeholder.
Somewhere in your main.php, there will be a placeholder for dynamic text, which is specified by.
<?php echo $content; ?>
Tell yii to use the theme.
Change the file Application_Root/protected/config/main.php by adding the following line just before the last line (containing the closing bracket).
'theme'=>'surveyhub'
Create the layout placeholders.
Create an HTML segment that will be written into the $contents portion of main.php. Call it for example one_column.php. The file path will therefore be Application_Root/themes/views/layouts/one_column.php In that file, where you want the dynamic text to be placed, create a placeholder.
<?php echo $content; ?>
Tell Yii to use the layout.
In the file Application_Root/protected/components/Controller.php, add or modify the layout variable to read :
public $layout='//layouts/one_column.php';
Refresh the page
