I am running a mac with mamp and mamp pro. How do I check if I have APC enabled and if its not enabled or not installed how do I install it?
I am trying to get the APC upload loader to work that I found online and it gets stuck on NAN% when im uploading.
This is a link: http://www.haughin.com/2007/10/23/php-upload-progress-with-php-52-apc/
There's nothing to download or install. MAMP 1.9 includes APC already. To enable it, open Preferences/PHP. Uncheck 'Zend Optimizer' (because it's not compatible with APC), then choose APC from the 'Cache' drop-down box, submit the change with 'OK'.
In MAMP 2.1 you can find the APC setting in the Main Window under Server > PHP > Cache:
In MAMP 3.0 APC is found on the PHP tab:
For command-line support add also the following lines to your MAMP php.ini:
[apc]
extension=apcu.so
apc.enable_cli=1
Visit the phpinfo page that you can get to from inside the MAMP start page. That lists all of the loaded modules.
Here are the install steps for PHP-APC:
link text
You may be able to run pear or pecl inside MAMP to do the install easily.
Do it manually:
1- nano /Applications/MAMP/bin/php/php5.6.2/conf/php.ini
NOTE: "php5.6.2" on the path should be changed to the php version
you'll be using.
2- Look for the section:
[OPcache]
;zend_extension="/Applications/MAMP/bin/php/php5.6.2/lib/php/extensions/no-debug-non-zts-20131226/opcache.so"
3- Remove the colon (;) so that section reads:
[OPcache]
zend_extension="/Applications/MAMP/bin/php/php5.6.2/lib/php/extensions/no-debug-non-zts-20131226/opcache.so"
4- Save (Ctrl-O) + Enter and quit (Ctrl-X)
Enjoy.
When running PHP scripts from the Console (CLI) you will need to
specify the PHP binary you want to use since by default php will be
the default PHP included with OS X, not the one installed with MAMP.
So instead of:
user$ php script.php
try:
user$ /Applications/MAMP/bin/php/php5.6.2/bin/php script.php

I followed a guide which used home-brew to install the lastest version of php (5.4.8) on OSX Mountain Lion.
I then followed a guide which showed me how to setup and use the pre-installed apache on OSX.
However when I try running up a base Symfony 2 project I get a bunch of errors relating to missing date.timezone in the php.ini.
However I have this correctly setup the php.ini but doing a quick phpinfo() in the Symfony project shows that its using the old preinstalled version of php (5.3) rather than the new one.
In terminal if I type which php & php -v, It shows the correct new version is being used.
But the phpinfo() shows
Did you follow all the instructions provided in the Caveats?
Run brew info php54 to see them again.
Especially the line:
To enable PHP in Apache add the following to httpd.conf and restart Apache:
LoadModule php5_module /usr/local/Cellar/php54/5.4.8/libexec/apache2/libphp5.so
Apache is not aware of the homebrew version of PHP (i.e. /usr/bin/php). You see it on the command line because you've likely modified your PATH (i.e. /usr/local/bin/php).
You can modify this in your httpd.conf file.
I am not a fan of homebrew or other package libraries. Primarily because Mac OS X is built atop Unix. Furthermore, all but MySQL are installed natively. Here's an article on installing Apache, MySQL, and PHP on Mac OS X.
Disclaimer: I wrote that article.
Today I have same issue for updating php 7.2 to 7.3 as requirement of Laravel 6. Here is my solution.
Open your httpd.conf file in "/etc/apache2/http.conf"
Search (Ctrl + w) for "LoadModule php"
Uncomment that row
Restart your apache with "sudo apachectl restart"
Then, your php version in local web server (apache2) will be updated
I'm using MAMP and ive installed a fresh version of Opencart, its telling me i dont have MCrypt enabled, when i go to terminal and type:
php -m | grep mcrypt
output: mcrypt
I can locate the library but it doesn't seem to be enabled.
That fact that php -m | grep mcrypt returns mcrypt, means the mcrypt library is INSTALLED and ENABLED.
Although it may just be enabled for CLI.
You can try editing the PHP.ini file and adding the following line under the ; Extensions section:
extension=mcrypt.so
Restart Apache / MAMP after saving php.ini file.
To find the correct php.ini file to edit, run the following command line:
php --info | grep php.ini
(If the line already exists, you may just need to remove the ; thats in front of it.)
I have tried so many ways but had no luck.
After a lot of trials finally came up with a solution.
Go to bin directory inside current active PHP version directory. In my case it is /Applications/MAMP/bin/php/php7.2.8/bin
It might be different in your case. Now run the below command with sudo
sudo ./pecl install channel://pecl.php.net/mcrypt-1.0.1
Now You should add extension=mcrypt.so to php.ini
Restart MAMP Service and check if it is working.
I had this issue following upgrading to MAMP 5.1 and using PHP 7.1.20...
The issue I found was not that MAMP PHP did not have mcrypt installed, it certainly does come bundled.
The issue was that the MAMP PHP configuration option "Make this version available on the command line" was NOT working and so the version of PHP I was using on the command line [in my case] was the macOS default PHP 7.1.16 without mcrypt (the version included in macOS by default)
Reverting to the old cli php alias meant the correct MAMP version of PHP was used on the command line
Added to .bash_profile
alias php='/Applications/MAMP/bin/php/php7.1.20/bin/php'
try in console
pecl install mcrypt
Using Brew:
Install mcrypt: brew install mcrypt
In Mamp: File -> Edit Template -> PHP (php.ini)-> {PHP version}
Find 'Dynamic Extensions' in the text and add the following below (after the lines starting with ';'):
extension=mcrypt.so
Save, restart and test (with php -i | grep mcrypt for example)
I am trying to install the Libsodium PHP extension using PECL, but I have no idea how to get the dll files needed. I want to use it with Wampserver on Windows 7 (64-bit).
Can any one help me?
Here is How I did it.
Download the libsodium from here > For PHP 7.0, For PHP 5.6 And For PHP 5.5 (All x64). #One Important Note, Please download appropriate x86-32 bit or x64-64 bit of this extension matching of your environment from here
Extract the Downloaded file and copy libsodium.dll to wamp->bin->php->php5(x).x.xx Folder
Copy php_libsodium.dll From the extracted File to wamp->bin->php->php5(x).x.xx ->ext
Now Click on the WAMP System tray icon.
Go to PHP-> PHP Settings and Click on the enable dl from the menu of the WampManager from the system tray
Now Add bellow line to php.ini from PHP -> php.ini from the menu of Wampmanager, save and close it
extension=php_libsodium.dll
Now Restart Apache or click Restart All Services from the menu of WampManager
You should now get your php_libsodium in the extensions of the php Up and Running.
:)
**I didn't notice that, this question is 4 months old. I hope You have solved this.
use command prompt :
pecl install libsodium
and go to wamp folder find php.ini in php folder :
append this line: to ini file
extension=libsodium.so
You might be able to achieve this result by running php5enmod libsodium, depending on which webserver you use. Make sure you restart your webserver after installing PECL libsodium
here is good references:
https://paragonie.com/book/pecl-libsodium/read/00-intro.md#installing-libsodium
You can download the dll files you need here: http://windows.php.net/downloads/pecl/releases/libsodium/1.0.2/
Select the version that corresponds with your PHP version, compiler and architecture. (this can be checked using phpinfo(); on your machine)
Copy php_libsodium.dll to "ext" directory (C:\PHP\ext)
Copy libsodium.dll to root of PHP directory (C:\PHP)
Add extension=php_libsodium.dll to php.ini
restart apache
This worked on a standalone version of PHP running on Windows 7, I see no reason why this shouldn't work on WAMP or XAMP.
Wamp 3.2.0 64-bit
Even though in the past apparently more steps were required (see my comment from 2018), today I installed Wamp 3.2.0 64-bit, and when I got an error about libsodium not working, I was able to easily fix it by:
Wamp tray icon > PHP > PHP Extensions > ensure "sodium" is checked
(Wamp will automatically refresh)
I was pleasantly surprised that is worked!
You can also use https://github.com/paragonie/sodium_compat. You can simply use :
composer require paragonie/sodium_compat
So here is the issue I'm getting:
I'm trying to install Composer and I'm using MAMP on Windows (it does exist since the beginning of January).
And like many users of Composer on Windows, I've got this error :
Some settings on your machine make Composer unable to work properly.
Make sure that you fix the issues listed below and run this script again:
The openssl extension is missing, which means that secure HTTPS transfers are impossible.
If possible you should enable it or recompile php with --with-openssl"
So I checked on the right php.ini page if it was unabled and it was!
I can't find any help since there are very few users of MAMP on Windows.
Thank you for your help or suggestions
Open php.ini located in your "\MAMP\conf\" folder or copy the php.ini into a \MAMP\bin\php\php[your PHP version number]\
Find "extension=php_openssl.dll"
;extension=php_openssl.dll - remove ";"
Restart your MAMP , extension should be loaded after that.
Had the same problem.
The solution is quite easy:
Ensure that extension=php_openssl.dll is uncommented (Remove ;) and copy the php.ini file at the same directory where the php.exe is located, because Composer searches there for an php.ini File and not in the MAMP conf folder.
Step 1: Go to following Folder
\MAMP\bin\php\php[your php version you are working on]
Note: to check version of php you are using go to Mamp prefrences and then click on php tab and there you can see Standard Version the version you are using.
mine was \MAMP\bin\php\php5.6.8
Step 2: Inside that folder find file named as
php.ini-production
Step 3: Open this file in Notepad to edit
Step 4: Search for by pressing ctrl+F
extension=php_openssl.dll
Step 5: Remove Semicolon(;) before it
Step 6: Restart MAMP and voila You are ready to install Composer.
This method works as of version 3.2.2:
Open php.ini located in your \MAMP\conf\ folder and copy the php.ini file into \MAMP\bin\php\php[your PHP version number]\ (You can find the version number you are using in MAMP's preferences)
Find extension=php_openssl.dll remove ; if it exists.
Open php.ini-production and php.ini-developmen that exist in the same folder that you copied the php.ini file into.
Find extension=php_openssl.dll remove ; if it exists.
Restart your MAMP, and the extension should be loaded after that and you should be able to install Composer.
I spent hours on this issue, followed the suggested answers and couldn't get it working.
So to anyone else getting a bunch of errors, remember MAMP is still in Beta for windows and some issues will run deeper than is practical to fix.
MAMP & MAMP PRO for Windows is available as a Beta version. It may still contain some. We do not recommend using MAMP & MAMP PRO Beta for Windows in a production environment.
In the end I had to switch to WAMP.
I spent quite a bit of time too. In my Windows 10 MAMP installation the openssl extension was enabled by default in all php.ini files. I got it working by adding the desired PHP version to the Windows system PATH before installing Composer. MAMP PRO has a setting 'PHP in system' path on the 'PHP' tab of control panel.
I was able to figure this out with MAMP PRO on Windows 7, and I assume MAMP would be the same.
The tricky step is you have to copy the php.ini file to your php.exe location in order to install composer. (MAMP PRO leaves these in separate locations)
For example I am using php 5.6.0, you can use any version just make the appropriate changes.
STEPS:
Path for php.exe C:\MAMP\bin\php\php5.6.0\php.exe
Path For php.ini C:\Users\Public\Documents\Appsolute\MAMPPRO\conf\php5.6.0.ini
Edit the php.ini from step 2 as necessary (uncomment openssl)
Copy the php5.6.0.ini from step 2 to the php.exe directory from step 1
Rename this copied php5.6.0.ini to just php.ini
Composer should then be able to install correctly.
It may sound stupid, but I can't add extensions to my php.ini
let me explain.
on a script, I do a phpinfo(), it tells me my php.ini is at "/Library/Application Support/appsolute/MAMP PRO/conf/php.ini"
I open the file, check the extension dir, put my new extension there (mongo) make it executable.
I add "extension=mongo.so" after all other extension declarations, reboot the server ... and the extension doesn't load ... And nothing in the error log. (apache and php)
after many retries and even a complete reboot, it's still the same.
I tried to disable every extension that is loaded with it. and it's the same, all these extensions remain loaded.
Is there another place where it loads extensions ?
I use php 5.2.11 on Snow Leopard 10.6.4
in the main window of MAMP click File -> Edit Template and chose the php.ini you want to edit and add the mongodb extension there ..
save and restart MAMP and it should be loaded.

SOLUTION: restart your machine not just web server.
the same thing happened to me on mamp, and i restarted the machine, not just the web server and it loads. but you may run into client issue with php command in such case do this:
this is the solution for osx:
brew install php56-mongo
if it errors out then read the package name and re-run such as - example:
example: brew install php5789-mongo
