I'd like to code a lightbox input dialogue in my application (like the one you see when you want to send a facebook message, except with a dark background), and I'm having a hardtime finding a jQuery plugin that does the job.
I've found Boxy, but it doesn't seem to have options for having a text field in the lightbox dialogue (even though there's a pic for it!), so that's unfortunate.
Which plugin do you suggest that I use to accomplish this? I would love if it works fine with mobile browsers by the way.
Your help is much appreciated :)
Think this is what you're looking for : http://chriswanstrath.com/facebox/
edit: now that I've checked the link, the plugin has changed since the last time I've used it. I have a prior version of the plugin, wich works fine and is pratically identical to what you see on facebook, so if you're looking for that, just reply and I'll share it.
take a look at http://www.gettopup.com/
You can put anything in (Take a closer look at the 'open google' example.
Hope this helps!

I know this has been asked by a few people but I haven't seen the answer. I have a php upload form for a file upload in a div tag. Is it possible to submit the form and upload the file without a page refresh? I haven't found the plugins to work because I want to submit the form with a title and other data attached as well. Any suggestions? I looked at using an iframe, but i'm not sure it will work in an upload.php wrapped in a div tag?
Here is the most simple solution you can use: Image upload without page refresh.
No obligation to use the javascript part, but it gives you the opportunity to show a notice that the transfer has been correctly done.
If you are open to jQuery and want a more open solution, I suggest you to take a look at the jQuery Form Plugin that can manage it all for you, with some extras that could be interesting.
My favourite tool for this is Uploadify. It includes real-time progress indicators, drag-and-drop, etc.
There are other, older solutions as well, including this one. That page has a simple demo that may provide a good example for how to do this on your own.
Honourable mention goes to Dave Walsh's facebook-lightbox, into which you might be able to put a file upload form. Worth a try if you like the look.
Try using something like AIM (http://www.webtoolkit.info/). And you should really get a little more experience on html, php and js.
testing the scripts as per template at:
http://gtv-resources.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/templates/html-02/index.html
i see something is not working properly.
In fact.... if i click two times the same thumbnail ( and we know viewers can do it) the video player stop working.
It is like ..... if the server stay on the previous request without take care of the new one.
Because there is not a visual movie preloader i don't know what is happening on server side.
I really hope someone can help me on this issue.
Many thanks

It seems like a bug in the html UI templates. Please file it in the issue tracker with step by step instructions to reproduce this issue:

I'm building a website and am looking for a way to implement a certain feature that Facebook has. The feature that am looking for is the link inspector. I am not sure that is what it is called, or what its called for that matter. It's best I give you an example so you know exactly what I am looking for.
When you post a link on Facebook, for example a link to a youtube video (or any other website for that matter), Facebook automatically inspects the page that it leads you and imports information like page title, favicon, and some other images, and then adds them to your post as a way of giving (what i think is) a brief preview of the page to anyone reading that post.
I already have a feature that allows users to share a link (or URLs). What I want is to do something useful with the url, to display something other than just a plain link to a webpage, to give someone viewing a shared link (in the form if a post) some useful insight into the page that the url leads to.
What I'm looking for is a script, or tutorial, or at the very least someone to point me in the right direction, so that it can help me accomplish this (using PHP preferably).
I've tried googling it but I don't know exactly what such a feature would be called and google isn't helpful when you don't exactly know what you're looking for.
I figure someone out there, in this vast knowledge basket called stackoverflow, can help me with this. Can anyone help me?
You would first scan the page for URLs using regex, then you would parse the pages those links reference with a php DOMDocument. You could use the parsed document to obtain any information you need from the webpage.
DOMDocument:
http://php.net/manual/en/class.domdocument.php
DOMDocument->load (loads a file, aka a webpage):
http://php.net/manual/en/domdocument.load.php
the link goes through http://www.facebook.com/l.php
You pass a URL to this and facebook filters it.
I have been developing a website for a University coursework, and at the moment, i have managed to get the features i want.
The website works using jQuery,AJAX and PHP to allow the user to view articles and media that goes with each article. My problem is that the site works as it should on my laptop, on FF4 however it does not work on my IE9 or other browsers, I have given the link to a few people and they all encounter the same problem.
The problem is that when you click the story on the left (thats how you navigate) it fades the text as it should, but it is meant to load in the next story aswell.... If you guys could help, that would help alot.

Thanks
IE8 is bugging out on this line:
console.log(storyId);
I'd suggest commenting this out.
If you enable debugging you should be able to see the same error.
These kind of problems always occurs by HTML and JavaScript support of broswer. First of all you shold validate your HTML by W3C validation. If the problem still persists than carefull check your javascript or jquery.
