We would like to create a not so complicated solution for managing customer records. It should periodically import some customer data from source systems and merge records basing on the matching of some params (e.g. email, phone). Fuzzy matching will be a plus. It must provide some data interfaces for fetching data by 3rd party systems.
Does anyone know free and open source solution for such task? Related words are Master Data Management and Customer Data Integration.
I will prefer some PHP and MySQL based solution, not so overloaded by functions.
Developing a comprehensive MDM solution is a big task. It can take years. What you seem to be looking for can be done by open source ETL engines sucs as Pentaho, and Talend. The provide a lot of matching utilities and has tools for you to get data from multiple sources.
I've heard VERY good things about Sugar. I think it can do what you want. I haven't used it myself though.
Use PIMCORE for PIM or MDM solutions. and it also offers DAM and CMS services.
You can also use AtroCore for it. This system has a completely configurable data model and can do exactly what you need. Data exchange can be automated via REST API.

I've got a process tracking system built with PHP/MySQL and I'd like to provide a graphical representation of the entire process -- a map, more or less. Each step, tasks, assigned users, and dependencies are stored in MySQL tables and so I have no problem outputting the data in any number of ways, but I'm not sure how I could go about displaying that in a graphical manner. Processes can be edited by privileged users so I can't just create a process map once and save it -- it needs to be dynamic.
I thought about simply outputting tables or divs but my problem is how to make it responsive to mobile browsers, so I figure a JPG/PNG would be simpler and more platform-independent. I've seen plenty of LAMP based charting tools but nothing that will create workflows. The closest I found was yUML (http://yuml.me/) which looks like it would be easy to implement based on a quick review of the syntax, but I'm not running Rails and don't know anything about how to do so.
I also looked into screenshot services (Grabzit, Thumbshots, Websnapr, etc.) but the problem there is that this is a secure site so those services wouldn't be able to gain access.
I'm not looking for anything flashy which is why I thought UML might be a good fit -- I just need to be able to dynamically create process maps based on MySQL data.
Thanks to anyone who can point me in the right direction!
I don't know of a flow chart API, but there are any number of general purpose chart API's.
Google charts has examples for org chart (among many other chart types).
There are many threads on this kind of thing on SO already:
JavaScript Chart Library
Graph visualization library in JavaScript
etc
I bet one of the best solutions is D3.js.
D3.js is a JavaScript library for producing dynamic, interactive data
visualizations in web browsers. It makes use of Scalable Vector
Graphics, HTML5, and Cascading Style Sheets standards.

You can find many examples here to fit what you are looking for, especially its very well documented API reference. Also has an incredible wiki (in many languages), greatest tutorials and some plugins.
I was looking to find a solution to our product. We have a geo-location, on a web based dashboard that does not have internet connection.
I was looking for a product that allows you to have local maps and a script, I found OpenLayers which seems cool although weights 22gb.
Do you know if there are other solutions to generate map locally that takes less space?
If I assume correctly, you are basically looking for an alternative to Google Maps, i.e. an alternative mapping service where you can use your own local data, right?
Now, based on your question, its hard to tell whether you
Want to develop something for yourself or buy/adopt an already implemented software
Are looking for the serverside (i.e. tiling/caching engine, geospatial database, etc) or for the clientside or for both
I could give you an example of a possible configuration if you want to develop a clientside application yourself, but that might not be what you are exactly looking for.
For the serverside, you could use MapServer, backed by a PostGIS spatial database (PostGIS is an enhancement of PostgreSQL), and then use a client side Javascript framework BASED on OpenLayers to develop your client application (i.e., the map viewer), such as Fusion, which is also based on the MooTools Javascript Library. You could also natively develop with OpenLayers. There are a lot of possibilities in the Open Source world, it just depends on the skill and time you have.
Also, have a look at OSGEO, in the right sidebar you'll find a lot of projects that are hosted by them. It definetely is your first address for Open Source web mapping solutions.
I'm a bit new to web development and wanted some insight on how to approach a project of mine.
We have a large mysql with a fairly large dataset that we want people to be able to play around with. Is there a way to have some sort of web based spreadsheet that, in addition to do normal spreadsheet calculations, query a database and pull down content? We have niche statical information on companies we research, ideally a user would come to the site and be able to access our data while adding their own logic(math operators) to make it more relevant to them.
We don't want to create an api to connect to their desktops(yet) and want to do this entirely over the web.
Any help on the approach or tools you'd use would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance
Edit: I found a good tool for drupal "Sheetnode" which uses phpexcel....I'll study it, I'm not totally sure if it allows mysql queries to be added within cells.
Give YUI datatable a try. The YUI library is one of the best-documented libraries. Yes, you can do queries for every cell in the sheet. You can use one query to populate the whole spreadsheet, and then another query for updating each individual cell. You will be responsible for programming the server-side code in Drupal using your own custom module. The menu_hook in Drupal will allow you to accept RESTful calls from the datatable and JavaScript.
I found phpexcel ( phpexcel.codeplex.com/ ) does what I want and there's a module for drupal for me.
If you're familiar with Java, the most relevant choice would probably be https://vaadin.com/spreadsheet and using the open source framework Vaadin (Disclaimer: I'm working for the company behind the tool).
But anyhow, with this it's as easy as:
Spreadsheet s = new Spreadsheet(
new File("/path/to/some/xls/file/on/server.xlsx"));
layout.addComponent(s);
to add a excel file in your web browser.
I'm looking for a simple database admin tool that will allow non-technical users to perform data-entry into a database (imagine a striped down version of phpMyAdmin). It would preferably allow the developer to set restrictions on which tables and fields can be modified.
Edit: Most of the tools posted, so far, are developer oriented. I'm looking for something that provides bare-bone functionality but is highly refined (clean interface, organized layout, etc.).
Edit2: Found this linked in the phpmyadmin alternatives thread.

HeidiSQL

Check out Webbased MySQL interface better that phpMyAdmin for a list of clients that might suit you.
In particular, I've worked with SQLYog before and found it to be a decent tool. Unfortunately, you're going to hit a limit with how "easy" these things are for non-technical users. Short of building an interface yourself, much of what you'll find out there is geared toward developers.
Try Navicat
Navicat
We use this at work even tho we know how to code it manually.
I can give you a form for all of the data columns or you can view a whole table at once.
You can build queries using query the builder too.
In 15 minutes you can have a CakePHP site scaffolded, baked, and customized for a very clean, simple, web interface. It's not the right tool for every job, but when you need customizability, you might just need to roll your own solution.
one of the most frequent requests I get is to create XY report for YZ App. These apps are normally built on PHP, so far I have manually created most of this reports, and while I enjoy the freedom of building it as I want, it usually becomes pretty tedious to calculate subtotals, averages, exporting to different formats etc.
What solutions are out there (free/OSS preferred) that help me get this repetitive tasks cranking?
edits:
I'm talking about reports/summaries from SQL data. Many times from DBs not designed for reporting use.
while I'm aware of "business-intelligence" we're not ready to implement a full scaled "intelligence" structure, looking more for a helper of sorts...
The problem you're facing is solved by so-called Business Intelligence software. This software tends to be bloated and expensive, but if you know your way around them you will be able to crank out such reports in no time at all.
I'm only familiar with one particular proprietary solution, which isn't too great either. But a quick search turns up the following page, which lists a number of free/open source alternatives:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Business_intelligence_tools
It depends on what kind of reports you're talking about. For example... site stats... you could install google analytics and the client could export whatever format they wanted.
A little Google search gave me the following OSS:
RLib

PM Report

I don't have any information on them, sorry.
