I need help with this issue. I'm trying to install php in my netbeans but i dont know exactly how to do it. The netbeans version i'v downloaded already have PHP installed (i can create a php project). But, for some reason when i run the project, nothing happens. I dont really think i have Apache Tomcat installed in my netbeans, that what i need help for. When adding the "tomcat 6.0" server, this information is needed:
server location (catalina home)
username
password
I have no idea what is that. I would apreciate help on this - How to install PHP + ApacheTomcat on neatbeans.
Apache Tomcat is for running Java apps. You'll be wanting Apache HTTP server instead.
I've always kept the installation of Apache and netbeans separate, I would:
Install Apache on your system - doesn't matter if Windows or Linux, just follow install instructions.
Find out the Apache directory that you will add your php files into. That's usually /var/www/ on Linux, don't know about Windows.
Create a new PHP project in Netbeans and configure it to use sources from the Apache directory in #2. Say for a project called teststuff I create a dir called /var/www/teststuff/ and create a Netbeans project inside there.
You should be able to browse to http://localhost to see your new server running.

XAMPP has some error about ports I uninstall it but did not back up any information and now my project does not run on local host is there any way for me to restore my old project or I have to do it again on new XAMPP? another problem is after reinstalling XAMPP windows do not know PHP what should I do?
by the way I am a very beginner in this :)))
So, I will try to explain this:
Websites (i.e. with PHP) need a webserver. For example when you go to stackoverflow.com, you automatically call a webserver who then compiles the PHP scripts on the server to HTML code.
This principe does also apply to your local installation.
When you call localhost, you basically call yourself as the webserver. XAMPP is a tool that can "simulate" a webserver on your PC, thats why PHP sites do not work without it, because your browser doesn't know what to do with PHP code, it only understands HTML.
If you install XAMPP again you should be able to get it running.
If you have any questions/problems with the XAMPP installation, feel free to ask again.
I have machine on which I lack admin privileges. I was not able to install xampp server on it. So I tried portable version of xampp. But I was getting error while starting Apache server and MySQL. The log file is not getting created.
Also many tutorials online use NetBeans which is also I am not able to install due lack of admin privileges.
I have postgres and apache tomcat working on my machine, which I used for Java Spring development. I also have eclipse installed on my machine. So I was thinking if I can manually configure eclipse, postgres, tomcat to develop php without installing xampp or netbeans.
Is it possible? If yes how do I do it? Is there any tutorial / link / webpage explaining the same?
If you can install jetbrains PhpStorm it has a built in server but due to lack of privileges i think it is not posiible though, so here are two links i have for you, hope you will able to find an answer..
https://www.eclipse.org/articles/article.php?file=Article-EclipseDbWebapps/index.html
https://www.enterprisedb.com/postgres-tutorials/how-connect-postgres-database-using-eclipse-and-netbeans
if you use php framework like laravel, cakephp etc.
Those have own development server to run application.
and for the database you can use sqlite database.
that not require xampp server
I have a iis development server set up and i have just successfully downloaded and installed symfony2 which is placed in the web root of this server and im trying to create a bundle within my project and i seem to be getting this error message in the dos box:
the program cant start because of php5.dll is misisng from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem
even though the dll is in the directory of the php folder on the C: drive on my computer.
and yes i entered php app/console generate:bundle into the cmd box.
Any suggestions would be very much appreciated
It seems the PHP was not installed successfully or IIS was not configured correctly for the available PHP.
I would recommend to unistall the previous PHP on IIS and install Microsoft Web Platform Installer first; then search for PHP 5.4> and PHP Manager for IIS in the productions list and add/install them.
This is much safe and reliable than installing php manually, specially that it will do IIS configuration for PHP automatically
I started trying to create a website which uses PHP on an old computer (previously used by another programmer).
I wanted to test my PHP code without uploading it each time, so I downloaded Apache and installed it. I was starting to set Apache up when I discovered this computer already had Apache on it.
Now I had multiple versions of Apache, so I went into add/remove programs and got rid of Apache (which only showed up once in the list).
Unfortunately windows decided it would uninstall the old version and keep mine which was not functioning properly. Also for whatever reason it seemed to have kept a good few files from the old version, but not enough that I could actually use it in any way. I believe it just had some configurations files.
I thought I would copy my files from the new version into the old version and not replace anything so hopefully I would be able to run under the older configurations, but that didn't work.
At this point I just wanted to cut my losses, so I put all the versions of Apache in an archive so there was no way the computer could be using them. I also removed Apache from the windows startup and rebooted the computer after configuring one single version of the newer copy of Apache to supposedly run PHP.
The problem is upon startup I could immediately log in to localhost and apache was already running. Also when I opened Apache manually from the files I had left unzipped, it only gives me the option to start Apache (not an option to stop or restart implying it is not running) and when I click it, it says "The requested operation has failed!" which is less than helpful.
So anyway, I just want to be able to run PHP locally and now I don't feel like I can even successfully uninstall and start from scratch anymore. Does anyone know what I have to do to get this to work? Sorry for the long description, I wove such a tangled knot.
One way to solve is use a XAMP (Apache + MySQL + PHP) client like XAMPP http://www.apachefriends.org/en/xampp.html brings it all set up for you to use. The problem of conflict can be caused by any IDE (Netbeans for example) that already carries a version of Apache.
Try to configure config files of Apache case exist.
Assumption: Running Windows OS for development and linux for production environment.
My recommendation is to not mix the Windows and Linux worlds as while they can be made to behave after lots of work, it is usually more pain than good.
Instead, as a humble windows and linux user, download and install Virtualbox [https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Downloads], a free open source virtualisation tool.
Then download a linux distribution of your choice and install that into a new virtual machine.
Configure the linux tools inside linux and leave your windows machine relatively untouched.
A useful linux service to install would be Samba - windows file sharing - you can use this to edit your code in windows using any IDE of your choice, while saving directly to linux and testing through linux. When happy, upload from the linux system (again like any other file uploader) and all will be well.
If you are deploying to a linux based environment in your production service then this will help you avoid common mistakes such as case-sensitivity trouble and many others.
Building and running this system is free and it will help teach you more about the linux environment you are deploying to also.
Equally, when you don't have the virtual machine booted, there's no services lying around exposing your computer to possible local network threats and consuming resources - as opposed to installing Apache on Windows where it will be using some resources all the time.
Iam not able to get familiar with XAMPP interface on Windows7 (Only prior experiencxe is with HTML,C,C++).
How to proceed to begin development work in PHP and MySQL and test developed contents using Apache Server.
Please help to understand its working flow.
Thanks in Advance.
First, find a good PHP book or tutorial to learn PHP. There are plenty out there, just Google or visit the PHP homepage.
As you follow the book or tutorial, save your .php files in the XAMPP htdocs folder. This will let you view your results using the XAMPP web server. For example, if you write a PHP script called test.php and save it in the htdocs folder, you can access it on your local XAMPP server via http://localhost/test.php.
XAMPP includes phpMyAdmin, which lets you manage the included MySQL database. You can learn more about phpMyAdmin here.
Be sure to read the XAMPP documentation so that you know how to start up Apache and MySQL and access phpMyAdmin.
XAMPP is only a service that provides a webserver, server side language (PHP), database and interface to connect to said interface. Once it is installed you are good to go, all you need to do is turn on Apache, then MySQL. All the rest of the installation requirements should be done automatically upon installation.
Maybe it is better to explain your particular issue...
I was beginning from Denwer. It was very easy to begin with him. He includes php, mysql, apache.
http://www.denwer.ru
You have to run the Apache server for php and the MySQL server for MySQL :D. You can run it by starting the XAMPP Control and than run them. Now you can go to the localhost http://localhost/
There are some instructions.
I hope it is useful.
Marcel
Do you really need XAMPP? Sumit, I also have Win7/x64 on one machine, where I installed
Apache 2.2.16 for 32bit Windows
PHP 5.3.2 (x32 Windows VC6 install binary)
Perl 5.12.1 32bit x86 from Activestate
MySQL 5.1 32bit x86 Windows installer)
I installed all-32-bit stuff (even if on 64bit Windows) because that guarantees you a much simpler life. You can handle or maintain every component individually, for including PHP or Perl into Apache, you just change a line or two in the Apache config file. There's no magic at all with all these programs. Install them by yourself and learn a lot in the process.
