Some small problem with strings, arrays and foreach - php

<?php
$ep_place = 'Arugghh!';
$eps_array = array();
$eps_array[] = $ep_place;
foreach($eps_array[1] as $eps_match)
{
$argh = $eps_match;
echo $argh;
}
?>
Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach()
What is it that I doing wrong here..?! I appreciate any help!

You are looping over the second element of $eps_array, which is wrong.
Change your foreach to:
foreach($eps_array as $eps_match) { }

$ep_place = 'Arugghh!';
$eps_array = array();
$eps_array[] = $ep_place;
foreach($eps_array as $eps_match)
{
$argh = $eps_match;
echo $argh;
}
You should use array in foreach but not element of array

What causes this warning?
You should check that what you are passing to foreach is an array by using the is_array function
If you are not sure it's going to be an array you can always check using the following PHP example code:
if (is_array($variable)) {
foreach ($variable as $item) {
//do something
}
}
This means that you are doing a foreach on something that is not an array.
Check out all your foreach statements, and look if the thing before the as, to make sure it is actually an array. Use var_dump to dump it.
Then fix the one where it isn't an array.
How to reproduce this error:
<?php
$skipper = "abcd";
foreach ($skipper as $item){ //the warning happens on this line.
print "ok";
}
?>
Make sure $skipper is an array.
Because, on whatever line the error is occurring at (you didn't tell us which that is), you're passing something to foreach that is not an array.
Look at what you're passing into foreach, determine what it is (with var_export), find out why it's not an array... and fix it.
Basic, basic debugging.
Try this.
if(is_array($value) || is_object($value)){
foreach($value as $item){
//somecode
}
}

get COUNT(*) from mysql_magic

The following code retrieve the result from queries. Usually, I ask for SELECT... and I get a two-dimensional array but this time I need to get count from a table.
if(isset($_GET['query']))
{
$results = mysql_magic($_GET['query']);
$response = array();
//ERROR : Invalid argument supplied for foreach()
foreach($results as &$row)
{
$rowArray = array();
foreach($row as &$column)
{
$rowArray[] = $column;
}
$response[] = $rowArray;
}
$jsonData = json_encode($results);
}
This is a part of the function mysql_magic. In most cases, it returns mysql_fetch_all($req_result). In this case, it returns a row.
else if (startsWith($req_sql, 'select count(*)'))
{
$line = mysql_fetch_row($req_result);
return $line[0];
}
Why do I get an error "Invalid argument supplied for foreach()" since my result, a count, contains one row and one column?
I think that you are using mysql_magic($_GET['query']) should be mysql_query($_GET['query']). I see no reference in the code for a $_GET case. So $results is undefined due to php error?
if(isset($_GET['query']))
{
$results = mysql_query($_GET['query']);
$response = array();
//ERROR : Invalid argument supplied for foreach()
foreach($results as &$row)
{
$rowArray = array();
foreach($row as &$column)
{
$rowArray[] = $column;
}
$response[] = $rowArray;
}
$jsonData = json_encode($results);
}

Input values in an array using do-while loop using php

do {
$pet_name = $row['pet_called'];
$ary = array($pet_name);
}while($row_pet = mysql_fetch_assoc($pet));
When called it must display the value, which can be done by the for loop etc.
echo $ary[0..x];
This is not working and how do i get to do this?
$ary = array();
while ($row = mysql_fetch_assoc($pet)) {
$ary[] = $row['pet_called'];
}
$ary[] = ... is the syntax to add an element to an array.
Don't use do...while. Nothing will be set to $row in the first iteration. This is why it doesn't work. Try just while:
$ary = array();
while($row_pet = mysql_fetch_assoc($pet))
{
$ary[] = $row_pet['pet_called'];
}
