I have an array in Javascript that i am trying to pass to php. my array looks like this.
Array[0]
"empNo" : "1347"
"empName" : "John Doe"
I am building this array from this javascript:
$('input[type=text]').each(function()
{
if ($(this).attr("value").length>0)
{
param[$(this).attr("id")]=$(this).attr("value");
}
});
Then I pass the array to php using
$.post("example.php",param)
Then in php when I try to interact with the post like this:
$emp=$_POST['empNo'];
$name=$_POST['empName'];
echo ($_GET[0]);//this is for testing
It throws an error saying that The Indexes of empNo and empName are not Defined.
It also says that 0 is an undefined offset.
Thanks for the help
Instead of looping through and manually building your data to pass just do this for the whole form.
var data = $('form').serialize();
$.post("example.php", data);
Then you should have access as you expect in your php script.
BUT make sure you're using the <input name="exampleName" /> attribute and then try to access them like this...
$value = $_POST['exampleName'];
while right now, it looks like you're trying to use the id instead of name
My first guess would be that $_POST has an array whose members are the values you are sending.
So, I think the values are in $_POST[1], $_POST[2], etc...
Try to print_r($_POST) and see where your variables went to.
Response to your comment:
I would tidy up things a bit, just a suggestion - especially the attr('value') part.
$('input[type=text]').each(function() {
if ( $(this).val() ) {
param[$(this).attr('id')] = $(this).val();
}
});
Try this
var param = $('form').serialize();
$.post("example.php", param);

So I have got to a stage in my website where I need to pack a lot of information into a single json array like object, so in order to do this I need to pack a list of array information under a certain key name, then another set of data under another key name.
So for example:
$array = array();
foreach(action goes here)
{
$array['data1'] = array('information' => data, 'more_information' => more_data)
}
$array['data2'] = array("more data");
This basically illustrates what I am trying to do, I am able to partially do this, however naming the key for the new data set only replaces each data, instead of adding into it in the foreach loops.
Now if this part isn't too confusing, I need some help with this. Then in addition to this, once this is sorted out, I need to be able to use the data in my jQuery response, so I need to be able to access each set of data something like: json.data1[i++].data, which would ideally return "more_information".
You need an incremental number in that loop and make the results available as a json object...
$array = array();
$i = 0;
foreach(action goes here)
{
$array['data'.$i] = array('information' => data, 'more_information' => more_data)
$i++;
}
$array['data2'] = array("more data");
$data = json_encode($array);
Then in php you might set a js var like so:
<script type="text/javascript">
var data = <?php echo $data; ?>;
</script>
which could then be accessed in js easily:
alert(data.data1.information);
If I understand your question correctly you expect to get this object as a response to something? Like a jQuery .ajax call?
http://api.jquery.com/jQuery.ajax/
This link illustrates how to use it pretty clearly. You would want to make sure to specify dataType = "json" and then place your data handling in the success call:
$.ajax({
url: 'some url string',
type: "GET",
dataType: "json",
success: function(data)
{
$.each(data, function(i, v){
console.log(data[i]);
});
},
error: function()
{
//error handling
}
});
This is relatively untested, but the concept is what I am trying to convey. You basically make your multi-dimensional array in php and json_encode it. Either of these methods will allow you to parse the json.
I'm trying to deserialize an array from an URL I've sent from a JQuery Ajax call to a PHP script in the server.
What I have done
I've been sending variables with values to the server successfully with jQuery Ajax this way:
// A simple text from an HTML element:
var price = $("#price option:selected").val();
// Yet another simple text:
var term1 = $('#term1').val();
Then I prepare the data to be sent via Ajax this way:
var data = 'price=' + price + '&term1=' + term1;
//if I alert it, I get this: price=priceString&term1=termString
And send it with jQuery Ajax like this:
$.ajax({
url: "script.php",
type: "GET",
data: data,
cache: false,
dataType:'html',
success: function (html) {
// Do something successful
}
});
Then I get it in the server this way:
$price = (isset($_GET['price'])) ? $_GET['price'] : null;
$term1 = (isset($_GET['term1'])) ? $_GET['term1'] : null;
And I'm able to use my variables easily as I need. However, I need to do this with an array.
Main question
Reading a lot, I've managed to learn the professional way to send an array to the server: serialize it! I've learnt this way to do it with jQuery:
var array_selected = [];
// This is used to get all options in a listbox, no problems here:
$('#SelectIt option:not(:selected), #SelectIt option:selected').each(function() {
array_selected.push({ name: $(this).val(), value: $(this).html().substring($(this).html().indexOf(' '))});
});
var array_serialized = jQuery.param(array_selected);
// If I alert this I get my array serialized successfully with in the form of number=string:
//Ex. 123=stringOne&321=StringTwo
This seems to be right. I add this to the data as before:
var data = 'price=' + price + '&' + array_selected + '&term1=' + term1;
//if I alert it, I get this: price=priceString&term1=termString&123=stringOne&321=StringTwo
How do I reconstruct (unserialize) my array in the server? I've tried the same as before:
$array_serialized = (isset($_GET['array_serialized'])) ? $_GET['array_serialized'] : null;
with no success! Any ideas why? How can I get my serialized array passed this way in the server as another array which PHP can handle so I can use it?
Or am I complicating my life myself needlessly? All I want is to send an array to the server.
If you name a variable with [] in the end of it, it will create an array out of the values passed with that name.
For example, http://www.example.com/?data[]=hello&data[]=world&data[]=test, will result in the array $_GET["data"] == array('hello', 'world', 'test'); created in PHP.
In the same way, you can create an associative array in PHP: http://www.example.com/?data[first]=foo&data[second]=bar will result in $_GET["data"] == array("first" => "foo", "second" => "bar");
BTW, you might be interested in using jQuery's .serialize() or .serializeArray(), if those fit your client side serializing needs.
I'm not too knowledgeable with PHP, but I think you may have overlooked something pretty simple, <?--php unserialize($string) ?>.
I HAVE modified my code, i used firebug console.log to detect weather the the php gets the array passed or not. and firebug displays this - rescheck[]=2&rescheck=1&rescheck=3
I think php gets the array if THATS what an array in php supposed to be like.
SO guys, if thats correct how to insert that array in database? or how to loop it? the foreach loop ive made didnt work.
JQUERY CODE:
$('#res-button').click(function (){
var room_id=$('[name=rescheck[]]:checked').serialize().replace(/%5B%5D/g,'[]');
alert(room_id);
$.ajax({
type: "POST",
url: "reservation-valid.php",
data: {name_r:name_r, email_r:email_r,contact_r:contact_r,prop_id:p_id,cvalue:room_id},
success: function(data) {
console.log(data);
}
});
});
<input type="checkbox" name="rescheck[]" value="<?php echo $roomid; ?>" />
PHP CODE:
$c_array=$_POST['cvalue'];
echo $c_array;
//foreach($c_array as $ch)
//{
//$sql=mysql_query("INSERT INTO reservation VALUES('','$prop_id','$ch','$name_r','$contact_r','$email_r','')");
//}
I think I managed my jquery code to be right, but I don't know how to fetch that with PHP.
room_id is an array, so if you want to get the value for each, you need to get all value together first.
var room_id_string = '';
for(i=0;i<room_id.length;i++){
room_id_string += room_id.eq(i).val() + ',';
}
your below code will only pass Array jquery object of [name=rescheck[]]:checked to room_id
Instead of this you will have to create a array and push values in it like this
var room_id = Array();
$('[name=rescheck[]]:checked').each(function(){
room_id.push($(this).val());
});
In jQuery it might be easier for you to just use the serialize function to get all the form data. jQuery passes the form to the server so you don't have to worry about getting all the values. If you use it in conjunction with the validate plugin you might find it a little easier!
http://bassistance.de/jquery-plugins/jquery-plugin-validation/
This is what I do ibn my site for saving to a db a list of checkboxes with jquery and ajax call. It make an array and pass it to the ajax call and the php script handle the array.
If you get any error here you should debug the js array with firebug for be sure that is formed correctly.
js script:
var $checkBox = $('[name=rescheck[]]:checked');
$checkBox.each(function() {
if ($(this).is(":checked")){
valuesCheck[this.value] = 1;
}else{
valuesCheck[this.value] = 0;
}
and the PHP script:
$checkTab = $_POST['cvalue'];
foreach ($checkTab as $idChkTab => $checkedOrNot){
if ($checkedOrNot== "0"){
//do something if isn't checked
}
hello frieds this is how i usually post a variable using Jquery..
$.post("include/save_legatee.inc.php", { legatee_name: legatee_name_string,
legatee_relationship:legatee_relationship_string,
}, function(response){
alert(response);
});
Can anybody explain how to post an array using Jquery..
var all_legattee_list= new Array();
all_legattee_list[1]="mohit";
all_legattee_list[2]="jain";
this is my array... How can post this using jquery???
$.post(
'include/save_legatee.inc.php',
{ all_legattee_list: ['mohit', 'jain'] },
function(data) {
}
);
Post this as a string separated with some delimiter.
use .join() to join the array
var strJoinedArray = all_legattee_list.join(',');
and in your php code split the string using , and retrieve the values.
you have to use all_legattee_list[] as name of your parameter, something like this:
$.post("...", "all_legattee_list[]=mohit&all_legattee_list[]=jain", ...);
For example, like this: Serializing to JSON in jQuery. Of course the server would have to support JSON deserialization, but many server-side languages already do.
I'm trying to use jQuery.post() function to retrieve some data. But
i get no output.
I have a HTML that displays a table. Clicking this table should trigger a jQuery.post event.
My scriptfile looks like this:
jQuery(document).ready(function() {
jQuery('#storeListTable tr').click(function() {
var storeID = this.cells[0].innerHTML; //This gets me the rowID for the DB call.
jQuery.post("../functions.php", { storeID: "storeID" },
function(data){
alert(data.name); // To test if I get any output
}, "json");
});
});
My PHP file looks like this:
<?php
inlcude_once('dal.php');
//Get store data, and ouput it as JSON.
function getStoreInformation($storeID)
{
$storeID = "9";//$_GET["storeID"];
$sl = new storeLocator();
$result = $sl->getStoreData($storeID);
while ($row = mysql_fetch_assoc($result)) {
{
$arr[] = $row;
}
$storeData = json_encode($arr);
echo $storeData; //Output JSON data
}
?>
I have tested the PHP file, and it outputs the data in JSON format. My only problem now is to return this data to my javascript.
since the javascript is located in the /js/ folder, is it correct to call the php file by using '../'?
I don't think I'm passing the storeID parameter correctly. What is the right way?
How can I call the getStoreInformation($storeID) function and pass on the parameter? The jQuery example on jQuery.com has the following line: $.post("test.php", { func: "getNameAndTime" }
Is the getNameAndTime the name of the function in test.php ?
I have gotten one step further.
I have moved the code from inside the function(), to outside. So now the php code is run when the file is executed.
My js script now looks like this:
jQuery('#storeListTable tr').click(function() {
var storeID = this.cells[0].innerHTML;
jQuery.post("get_storeData.php", { sID: storeID },
function(data){
alert(data);
}, "text");
});
This results in an alert window which ouputs the store data as string in JSON format.
(because I have changed "json" to "text").
The JSON string looks like this:
[{"id":"9","name":"Brandstad Byporten","street1":"Jernbanetorget","street2":null,"zipcode":"0154","city":"Oslo","phone":"23362011","fax":"22178889","www":"http:\/\/www.brandstad.no","email":"bs.byporten#brandstad.no","opening_hours":"Man-Fre 10-21, L","active":"pending"}]
Now, what I really want, is to ouput the data from JSON.
So I would change "text" to "json" and "alert(data)" to "alert(data.name)".
So now my js script will look like this:
jQuery('#storeListTable tr').click(function() {
var storeID = this.cells[0].innerHTML;
jQuery.post("get_storeData.php", { sID: storeID },
function(data){
alert(data.name);
}, "json");
});
Unfortunately, the only output I get, is "Undefined".
And if I change "alert(data.name);" to "alert(data);", the output is "[object Object]".
So how do I output the name of teh store?
In the PHP file, I've tried setting $storeID = $_GET["sID"]; But I don't et the value. How can I get the value that is passed as paramter in jQuery.post ?
(currently I have hardcoded the storeID, for testing)
Lose the quotes around "storeID":
Wrong:
jQuery.post("../functions.php", { storeID: "storeID" }
Right:
jQuery.post("../functions.php", { storeID: storeID }
bartclaeys is correct. As it is right now, you are literally passing the string "storeID" as the store ID.
However, a couple more notes:
It might seem weird that you will be setting storeID: storeID - why is only the second one being evaluated? When I first started I had to triple check everytime that I wasn't sending "1:1" or something. However, keys aren't evaluated when you are using object notation like that, so only the second one will be the actual variable value.
No, it is not correct that you are calling the PHP file as ../ thinking of the JS file's location. You have to call it in respect of whatever page has this javascript loaded. So if the page is actually in the same directory as the PHP file you are calling, you might want to fix that to point to the right place.
Kind of tied to the previous points, you really want to get your hands on Firebug. This will allow you to see AJAX requests when they are sent, if they successfully make it, what data is being sent to them, and what data is being sent back. It is, put simply, the consensus tool of choice to debug your Javascript/AJAX application, and you should have it, use it, and cherish it if you don't want to waste another 6 days debugging a silly mistake. :)
EDIT As far as your reply, if you break down what you are returning:
[
{
"id":"9",
"name":"Brandstad Byporten",
"street1":"Jernbanetorget",
"street2":null,
"zipcode":"0154",
"city":"Oslo",
"phone":"23362011",
"fax":"22178889",
"www":"http:\\/www.brandstad.no",
"email":"bs.byporten#brandstad.no",
"opening_hours":"Man-Fre 10-21, L",
"active":"pending"
}
]
This is actually an array (the square brackets) containing a single object (the curly braces).
So when you try doing:
alert(data.name);
This is not correct because the object resides as the first element of the array.
alert(data[0].name);
Should work as you expect.
Your JSON is returned as a javascript array... with [] wrapping the curly bits [{}]
so this would work.
wrong: alert(data.name);
right: alert(data[0].name);
Hope that helps.

Ok, thanks to Darryl, I found the answer.
So here is the functional code for anyone who is wondering about this:
javascript file
jQuery(document).ready(function() {
jQuery('#storeListTable tr').click(function() {
jQuery.post("get_storeData.php", { storeID: this.cells[0].innerHTML }, // this.cells[0].innerHTML is the content ofthe first cell in selected table row
function(data){
alert(data[0].name);
}, "json");
});
});
get_storeData.php
<?php
include_once('dal.php');
$storeID = $_POST['storeID']; //Get storeID from jQuery.post parameter
$sl = new storeLocator();
$result = $sl->getStoreData($storeID); //returns dataset from MySQL (SELECT * from MyTale)
while ($row = mysql_fetch_array($result))
{
$data[] = array(
"id"=>($row['id']) ,
"name"=>($row['name']));
}
$storeData = json_encode($data);
echo $storeData;
?>
Thanks for all your help guys!
