I have php code on a page which generates a series of buttons, like so: (in a loop)
echo "<input type=\"button\" event='$eventID' id=\"sendsomeone\" value=\"Send a family member\"/>";
echo "<span id='$eventID'></span>";
Then I have jquery which catches those clicks, and also creates a button:
$('input:button').click(function() {
$(this).next("span").append('You clicked this button!');
$(this).next("span").append('<input type=\"button\" event=' + eventID + ' id=\"submitbutton\" value=\"Send\"/>');
$('#submitbutton').click(function() {
}
}
My objective is to correctly catch all button clicks on the page. (no matter the order they are clicked in, the PHP generated buttons should all behave in one way, the secondary buttons should all behave a different way)
In the code I have above, it works correctly at first, letting you click buttons and creating the secondary button for each. But once you click one of the secondary buttons, it all starts behaving strangely. After clicking a second button, then /any/ click executes code for #submitbutton.
Do I need to use a class in here somewhere? If so, an example would be great. What will make this work?
You don't need to append the button an then select it. You can create the input element in a jQuery object and then just bind to that objects click event like so:
$('input:button').click(function() {
var span = $(this).next("span");
span.append('You clicked this button!');
$('<input type=\"button\" event=' + eventID + ' value=\"Send\"/>')
.appendTo( span )
.click(function() {
//do stuff here
});
});

I want to get the value of id so that I can delete the data from mysql based on the id number
This is a project for events, the main idea here is I want to get the id number of the event based on the clicked button, so that I can update/delete the event based on the id number.
Code for displaying details
<?php $sql= "SELECT event_name, event_date, event_id FROM events WHERE event_status=0";
$result= mysqli_query($conn, $sql);?>
while($row = mysqli_fetch_assoc($result))
{
echo '
<div class="pending-card">
<div class="pending-image">
</div>';
echo " <div class='pending-title'>
<h1>{$row["event_name"]}</h1>
</div>";
echo " <div class='pending-des'>
<p>{$row["event_date"]}</p>
<button class='choice-pending'><a href='detail.php'>Read More...</a></button>
<input style='display: none;' type='text' id='test-pend' value='{$row["event_id"]}'>
</div>
</div>
";
}
Jquery code
Here I tried to check if this works by making an alert, but after i press the button, the id number that came out is not correspond with the button i click
$(document).ready(function(){
$('.choice-pending').click(function(){
alert("Value: " + $('#test-pend').val());
});
});
Can anyone tell me where did I go wrong
Example, the event i pressed is suppose to be 34, but the alert shows 26 which is the first event id in the code for displaying details
You can use data-* attribute in your element.
Based on https://www.w3schools.com/tags/att_global_data.asp
The data-* attributes is used to store custom data private to the page
or application.
The data-* attributes gives us the ability to embed custom data
attributes on all HTML elements.
The stored (custom) data can then be used in the page's JavaScript to
create a more engaging user experience (without any Ajax calls or
server-side database queries).
The data-* attributes consist of two parts:
The attribute name should not contain any uppercase letters, and must
be at least one character long after the prefix "data-" The attribute
value can be any string Note: Custom attributes prefixed with "data-"
will be completely ignored by the user agent.
<button class="choice-pending" data-event-id="<?= $row['event_id']; ?>">Read More...</button>
Then in your script you can access the clicked button:
$(".choice-pending").click(function() {
if($(this).attr('data-event-id') !== undefined) {
// You can do ajax call here to your detail.php
// Or you can simply create a hidden field inside your form, assigned the data-event-id value to it, then $("form").submit();
} else {
/** Error message here, maybe? */
}
});
First remove your anchor tag inside button and use only anchor or button and print your html with assign some dynamic class or id into each to make them unique like this.
<div class='pending-des'>
<p>{$row["event_date"]}</p>
<a class='choice-pending-{$row["event_id"]}' href='detail.php'>Read More...</a>
<input style='display: none;' type='text' id='test-pend-{$row["event_id"]}' value='{$row["event_id"]}'>
</div>
Now bind click event on it-
$(document).ready(function(){
$('.pending-des').each(function(){
$(this).on('click', 'a[class^=choice-pending-]', function(){
alert($(this).find('input[id^=test-pend-]').val());
});
});
});
I'm hoping I'm on the right track here....
I have some elements on my page (tables).. that are dynamically generated based on the results of querying a DB.... (I add inside of a container DIV)..
inside these tables are some text..and a handful of checkboxes... each table is the same (outside of the value of the text fields)..
When a user clicks on a checkbox.. I add an element to another container DIV off to the side.
If a user un-checks the checkbox.. it removes the element from the container DIV on the side. On each 'click' event..... I am also either adding or removing the 'selections' from an ARRAY (and also updating this array to my PHP SESSION)..
When the user is done.. they click a button and go to another page.. where this SESSION array is grabbed and reviews/summarizes their 'choices'..
*there is no FORM tags.. checkboxes are free-form in the tables (not wrapped in any FORM tags..so there is NO general POST action to grab everything.. hence the use of an array/SESSION)
If the user goes BACK to the original 'selection page' (with the tables/checkboxes)..
I am re-populating the PAGE (both re-checking any checkboxes...and re-populating the elements in the container DIV to the side.. all based on the SESSION data)
In each checkbox.. I am adding a little PHP function to write in checked="checked" or not.. when the checkboxes instantiate)
like so:
<label><input id="articlesnaming" name="Articles Naming Expert" type="checkbox" value="0.00" <?=sessionCheck($row["id"] ."-A","Articles Naming Expert") ?> onclick=""/> Articles Naming Expert</label>
FYI: on the function being called:
function sessionCheck($recordID, $checkBoxID){
if(isset($_SESSION['userPicks']) && count($_SESSION['userPicks']) != 0){
for($r = 0; $r< count($_SESSION['userPicks']); $r++){
if($_SESSION['userPicks'][$r]['recordid'] == $recordID){
for($z=0; $z < count($_SESSION['userPicks'][$r]['itemsordered']); $z++){
if($_SESSION['userPicks'][$r]['itemsordered'][$z]['name'] == $checkBoxID){
return 'checked="checked"';
}else if($z == (count($_SESSION['userPicks'][$r]['itemsordered']) - 1)){
return "";
}
}
}else if($r == (count($_SESSION['userPicks']) - 1)){
return "";
}
}
}else{
return "";
}
}
Everything up to this point works fine...
Its when I go to dynamically build/add (append) those elements in the container DIV on the side... where problems happen.
I am getting them added just fine and when a user RE-VISITS the page.. previous checkboxes they had selected were/are checked again... -and-.. the elements ARE in the container DIV to the side of the stage/screen)...
PROBLEM: When I un-check one of the checkboxes, it DOES NOT remove the element in the container DIV on the side? I have to re-click the checkbox..(which adds a duplicate).. then I can un-check it.. but it only removes the NEW one..
Everything seems to work fine until a refresh/re-visit of the page (and I have to automatically populate the checkboxes and the elements in the container DIV on the side).. then the checkboxes stop behaving/interacting with the elements that were adding through another function (still same ID's...paths..from what I can tell)....and -not- added through an initial checkbox event/action..
I am grasping at straws here.... it is perhaps because I'm using a PHP function to set the checkboxes on refresh? and it maybe doesn't know its current state? (although the visual state of the checkbox is accurate/correct)
Any ideas are appreciated.
Code used to set/un-set checkboxes & add/remove elements from the side container DIV :
<script>
//var to hold current check box clicked
var targetCheckbox;
//var to hold cumulative total
var totalPrice = 0;
//array to keep track of user picks from returned record results
//try to get SESSION array (if available/set) from PHP into jQuery using json_encode()
<?php if(isset($_SESSION['userPicks'])){ ?>
//overwrite jQuery userPicks MAIN array
var userPicks = <?php echo json_encode($tempArray) ?>;
<? }else{ ?>
//create new jQuery userPicks MAIN array, and populate through user clicks/interaction
var userPicks = [];
<? } ?>
$(document).ready(function() {
//check to see if seesion and populate checks and side column from previous picks
//if existing session, loop through and populate the CHOICES column
if(userPicks.length > 0){
console.log("SESSION EXISTS, POPULATE CHOICES COLUMN FROM ARRAY");
for(i=0; i<userPicks.length; i++){
//build up sub array data first then append at one time.
var subArrayLength = userPicks[i].itemsordered.length;
var subArray = '';
for(s=0; s<subArrayLength; s++){
subArray += '<li id="' + userPicks[i].orderid + userPicks[i].checkboxid + '">' + userPicks[i].itemsordered[s].name + '</li>';
}
$("#choicesWrapper #itemList").append('<div class="recordChoices"><h5>CASE NAME: '+userPicks[i].casename+'</h5><ul id="'+userPicks[i].recordid+'">'+subArray+'</ul></div>');
}
}
//onClick event
$('.orderOptions').on('click', 'input:checkbox', function () {
//routine when checkbox is checked
if ($(this).is(":checked")) {
$(this).prop("checked", true);
console.log("checked");
//console.log('doesnt exist..create it');
$("#choicesWrapper #itemList").append('<div class="recordChoices"><h5>CASE NAME: '+caseName+'</h5><ul id="'+resultsID+'"><li id="'+orderID+targetCheckbox+'">'+itemOrdered+'</li></ul></div>');
}else{
$(this).prop("checked", false);
console.log("un-checked");
//remove the option from right column (li element)
console.log("REMOVE TARGET: #choicesWrapper #itemList #"+resultsID+" "+orderID+targetCheckbox);
$("#choicesWrapper #itemList #"+resultsID+" #"+orderID+targetCheckbox).remove();
//check if no more children and remove parent/title (record container/div)
if ($("#choicesWrapper #itemList #"+resultsID+" li").length > 0) {
//console.log("Still has children...do nothing");
}else{
//console.log("No Children...");
$("#choicesWrapper #itemList #"+resultsID).parent().remove();
}
}
}
}
</script>
Oddly enough, when things are 'auto-populated' from the SESSION data (like on refresh or re-visiting the page) and when things 'break', unchecking the checkboxes doesn't remove things, but when I uncheck the very last checkbox in a group, it does remove the parent (so that parent removal code/routine is being executed...but not then child )
I'm thinking this is a pathing issue? (I believe I am creating things with exactly the same ID's/classes...etc).
Definitely worth the +1 if you answer! :)
The only other thing I can think of is.. HOW the userPicks array gets created.. initial visit to page, I just create an empty JS/jQuery array and wait to push/populate it when a user clicks a checkbox (code above for onClick stuff).
But when a user visits the page (refresh or re-visit) and -HAS- (previous) SESSION data still available.... then I grab the PHP SESSION array.. and pass it to jQuery using json_encode()...
Do I need to add/delete from that array differently than I do if I created normally?
In my application I have a slide out menu coded as such...
echo "<nav>
<h3>Menu</h3>";
if ($_SESSION['true']==1) {
if ($_GET['page']=="eventdetails") {
echo "<a href='index.php?page=removeevent&EventID=".$_GET['EventID']
."'>Remove Event</a>";
echo "<a href='index.php?page=editevent&EventID="
.$_GET['EventID']."'>Edit Event</a>";
}
// Admin. tasks button
echo "<a href='index.php?page=admintasks'>Admin. Tasks</a>";
}
echo "</nav>";
and I want to post fields in a form based on the click of the 'Edit Event' link; is there anyway to do this? I have used POST but only in the traditional method of having a submit button within the form tags but I don't know how I would do this when the button is outside the form tags.
On element click event, you could do something like this and submit the form
$("#myAnchor").click(function(event)
{
$('form#form_id').submit();
event.preventDefault();
});
Include the preventDefault if you don't want the normal anchor behavior
First give your form a name:
<form name="mystuff">...
Then inside the link define an onclick handler that looks up the form in the DOM via the name and submits it:
Edit event
I am trying to show a jQuery alert by hovering on different links with different ids.
I want to tailor the alert based on each link hovered over. These links are created dynamically from a table...
Each link has a different id attribute, so I was thinking to have alert for each without having to click on the link.
For example: a link might have index.php?id=1 So I want to show an alert on hover that says This is an alert for link 1, etc.
Edit 1:
The div:
echo '<div class="trigger">';
echo "<a class='trigger' href='".INDEX.'?categ='.$_GET['categ'].'&action='.$_GET['action'].'&subaction=viewlevels'.'&levelid='.$compi['Competence_ID']."'>";
echo '<img class="linkki" src="'.KUVAT.'paivita.gif" alt="'._("tiedot").'" title="'._("What is this?").'"/></a>';
echo '<div id="pop-up">';
echo" <h3>Pop-up div Successfully Displayed for".$_GET['levelid'].
"</p></div>";
Edit 2:
<head>
<script type="text/javascript" src="https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.5.0/jquery.min.js"></script>
<script type="text/javascript">
$('.trigger').mouseover(function() {
alert("You are hovering over " + $(this).attr('href').match(/id=([0-9]+)/)[1]);
});
</script>
But it always tells me that levelid is undefined..( of course because the form has not been sent)
Yes, you can use jQuery's mouseover() for this:
$('.trigger').mouseover(function() {
alert("This is an alert for link " + $(this).attr('href').match(/id=([0-9]+)/)[1]);
});
You should change from using ID's to using a common class.
to bind jquery function on a link over of container child element use below code
$(document).ready(function(){
jQuery("#container a").each(function() {
jQuery(this).mouseover(function() {
alert(jQuery(this).attr('href'));
});
});
});
$('#aid').mouseover(function(){alert('whatever you want'+this.id)});
documentation http://api.jquery.com/mouseover/
You can also use .hover and that has two callback one when hover-over and one for hover-out.
$('a').hover(function(){
alert($(this).attr('href'));
},function(){
alert('hover out');
});
If you are creating links dynamically, then associate attribute class (say sampleclass) and attribute id as (concatenate "link " and id value from database) with each link
Now
$(document).redy(function(){
$(".sampleclass").hover(function(){
alert("This is " + $(this).attr("id"));
});
});
I have a function below where the if statement works when it comes to adding content into a single textarea when clicking the "Add" button:
function addwindow(questionText) {
if(window.console) console.log();
if($(plusbutton_clicked).attr('id')=='mainPlusbutton') {
$('#mainTextarea').val(questionText);
} else {
$(plusbutton_clicked).parent('td').next('td.question').find('textarea.textAreaQuestion').val(questionText);
}
$.modal.close();
return false;
}
The problem is the else statement is not working when it comes to adding content within one of the appended textareas. What I want is that if a user clicks on a Plus button and adds a content by clicking on the "Add" button, the textarea which belongs in the same row as the plus button which was clicked on will add the content. What do I need to change in order to do this?
Below is the code whch shows the textareas and plus buttons which are appended:
var plusbutton_clicked;
function insertQuestion(form) {
var $tbody = $('#qandatbl > tbody');
var $tr = $("<tr class='optionAndAnswer' align='center'></tr>");
var $plusrow = $("<td class='plusrow'></td>");
var $question = $("<td class='question'></td>");
$('.questionTextArea').each( function() {
var $this = $(this);
var $questionText = $("<textarea class='textAreaQuestion'></textarea>").attr('name',$this.attr('name')+"[]")
.attr('value',$this.val());
$question.append($questionText);
});
$('.plusimage').each( function() {
var $this = $(this);
var $plusimagerow = $("<a onclick='return plusbutton();'><img src='Images/plussign.jpg' width='30' height='30' alt='Look Up Previous Question' class='imageplus'/></a>").attr('name',$this.attr('name')+"[]")
.attr('value',$this.val());
$plusrow.append($plusimagerow);
});
$tr.append($plusrow);
$tr.append($question);
$tbody.append($tr);
}
Below is the php code where it displays the "QuestionContent" and "Add" button for each row. When user clicks on the "Add" button it adds the "QuestionContent" into the single textarea on top but not in the multiple textareas which are appended.
<?php
$output = "";
while ($questionrow = mysql_fetch_assoc($questionresult)) {
$output .= "
<table>
<tr>
<td class='addtd'><button type='button' class='add' onclick='parent.addwindow();'>Add</button></td>
</tr>";
}
$output .= " </table>";
echo $output;
?>
You can view application here. Please follow the steps to use the application:
Click on "Add Question" button, then will add a textarea within a new row.
Click on the "Green Plus" button within the table row you just added, a modal window will appear.
In modal window it displays a search bar, in search bar type in "AAA" and click on "Search" button
Results will appear of your search, click on "Add" button to add a row. You will find out modal window is closed but the content from the "Question" field is not added in the textarea within the row you clicked on the green plus button
If you did the steps in the top textarea (the one above the horizontal line), then it does work, it just doesn't work for textarea which you have just added
One of your errors:
$('.plusimage').live('click', function() {
plusbutton($(this));
});
You're using jQuery 1.7 in your page, the .live method has been deprecated since jQuery 1.7. You should use .on instead.
You're also triggering your plusbutton function in your generated links:
<a value="" name="plusbuttonrow[]" onclick="return plusbutton();">
Which isn't passing any element as parameter to your plusbutton function be stored in your global var plusbutton_clicked which you are expecting. There's no reference to the clicked element then, therefore it doesn't find any element when you use the plusbutton_clicked var in the addwindow function.
Either keep the .on method or the onclick calls above to prevent the function from being fired twice.
There might be other errors as well (e.g. You're checking for id attributes which do not exist for the dynamically generated elements), but this is the main one. Also, I wonder if you don't have any deadline to finish this, it's the 10th time I see this question in the previous 3 weeks.. At least you made some progress, congratz.
