Hello I m very new to joomla..very very new indeed
i have been asked to make few changes in a joomla based site. it has several button marked with diffrenet email providers. clicking on each opens a popup of joomla where i think the contact importor of "Open Inviter" is being used. The problem is that openInviter doesnot ask for a permission from the user if the user wishes to share its personal data (passwords etc)...
I need something more like this
http://tellafriend.socialtwist.com
If you click on the web widget “tell a friend” and click on gmail for example you will see the pop up google page from which you can login into your gmail account, select contacts and send them a marketing message. I need similar solutions. and that not only for gmail.. but for yahoo aol yandex facebook twitter linkedin etc
Have you had a look on the Joomla Extension Directory? There is a module based on code provided by social twist. I would start there. Do a search on the JED and you come up with two diffrent options.

I am trying to add a feature to my website that allows users to add an event created on the website to their calendar.
Basically the app allows users to schedule a meeting and after which the meeting is sent to the mail of members of the site. What I want to do is to add a link with the meeting details to the site so users can click on it to add the event to their calendar, majorly google and office 365 calendars.
I have tried initially with google calendar apis but I can't seem to figure out what to do with the apis given. I was going to try with schema (with reference from google calendar api) to allow users to execute click actions but I realized it wont allow me to add events to the calendar but could be used to trigger certain actions which is not what I need at the moment.
I am building the app with laravel and can send the markdown email alright just need to be able to allow users a click action to add events to their calendar.
Thanks in advance.
Lance, the action taken when an ics file is clicked upon depends on the users application and their personal setup. For example on my desktop I have it set that a .ics file will be opened in notepad++, whereas my iphone will have a more standard response. Then in Google for example it will automatically show events in google calendar that it has found in my gmail emails.
Other than sending the .ics in email, Some other things you can do:
offer a 'Add to Google Calendar' button with html link. More info here: Link to add to Google calendar. This prompts add to default calendar.
Example:
http://www.google.com/calendar/event?action=TEMPLATE&text=Friday%20Drinks&dates=20200501T080000Z/20200501T090000Z&location=407%20King%20St,%20Newtown%202042&trp=false&details=Regular%20Friday%20Night%20Get%20together%20at%20Earls%20Juke%20Joint
OR
offer a subscribable link on the website, unique to each user, of all meetings arranged. Once they have subscribed they will automatically see new ones. These would show in a separate calendar though.
I'm not aware of an Outlook 365 equivalent of the google 'TEMPLATE' - possibly they just go with the single event .ics.
You could use ics files, which are supported on most platforms.

Dear Stackoverflow Community,
I am an Online Marketer and I am facing a problem: People are not converting when visiting my page through a smartphone. My interpretation is: they are lazy, as I am too.
I am not too terrible deep into programming Wordpress, but I thought about something and seeking advise:
I want to to build a Opt-In Form, which uses Facebooks "Social Login"
to process the Lead.
I need to find a way to get the "E-Mail-Adress" through the Facebook open graph API.
I generated a lead with one simple click.
I guess Online Marketers are graving for a feature like this!
So my question is:
Do you think it is possible to build a Wordpress Opt-In Form which uses Social Login (Facebook, Google) to receive E-Mail-Adresses from my users?
Maybe someone has some experience with this.
Best wishes
Dennis
I don't think there is a way to capture user's email address from facebook without permission of that user. However, there are a number of plugins that show popups and widgets to get users to subscribe to your newsletter etc.
https://wordpress.org/plugins/optin-forms/screenshots/
Also, if your content is good and if you create a catchy Call to Action, then it's possible to get more people to subscribe to your blog.
Isn't the process of opting into a subscription more involved than simply entering a name and email? Personally, I will ignore an optin form that requires me to do a social login.
Using a regular WordPress opt-in form plugin would suffice.
By the way, do you have any data that shows conversion is low because social login isn't present?
I am adding 'Invite a Friend' on my website, for that I have planned to included email grabber. I have tried http://openinviter.com/demo/ but you can see its not working for Linkedin, its mentioned on that demo page too.
How can I grab Email Addresses of LinkedIn Connections ? Preferably in PHP.
For connections, you can only grab the most basic profile fields, which does not include email address:
For 1st and 2nd degree connections, you may only retrieve profile fields available with the r_basicprofile member permission
https://developer.linkedin.com/documents/connections-api
At the moment nothin' changed about connections. Only basic profile fields available for connections.
I think it is logical that if current member must confirm access to his email separately from his profile fields - the emails of his connections are not confirmed by those members, so they cannot be viewed.
LInkedin doesn't provide email address
LinkedIn has started the email address for the new Apps, but still can't use it for your existing LinkedIn Apps.
It looks like apps now have access to the email field, as described here:
https://developer.linkedin.com/documents/profile-fields#email
Note that I haven't used this myself. I was just investigating it because I was spammed by an app used by one of my contacts. If you want to disable this "feature", just click on "Turn on/off data sharing with 3rd party applications" in the "Groups, Companies & Applications" section of the Privacy settings and then untick the box.
so i was wondering this: for example: when you subscribe to Facebook you have the option to invite your friends from gmail(if you have a gmail account), so you would enter your gmail login and password and facebook would grab all your contacts from gmail, so i was wondering how this is done? is there an API from Gmail or from Hotmail that permits to program this?
thanks
These sites don't use an all-encompassing API, they take your login you provide and from their side login to Google (for example) as you and scrape it for your contact info.
This is why you should also be very careful about who you trust with that login information.
yes .There r different API's for all of these.you can download them by simply typing contact fetcher script in Google or something like this. They r free.
refer link https://sourceforge.net/projects/contactgrabber
There might not be an API specifically for it, but it's still pretty easy. I did something similar with PHP, using CURL to log in to a website and download reports automatically.
edit: You should be aware that some sites won't like that you do it, and might sue you for it. Always get a permission from the site owner before you try it.
I need to add an invite users functionality to my social networking application so users can invite contacts from their hotmail or yahoo accounts. How do I do this and are there any free open source libraries that do this?
Depending on the service you wish to get the contact information from they might already provide a published API for you.
For example, Yahoo has a contact list API you could use: http://developer.yahoo.com/social/rest_api_guide/contact_api.html
Google also has one: http://code.google.com/apis/contacts/
And so does Windows Live: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb463974.aspx
If you need something to work with a service without an API then you might have to ask that user for his username and password, use it temporarily to log into his account, download the contact information and then discard the login details. There are obvious privacy and security issues with this approach, however. Nevertheless, it is used quite frequently by many social networking sites.
The same approach can also be used to retrieve buddy information from instant messaging services. You log in (perhaps using an open source IM API) and get their buddy list and contact details.
Just in case anyone was interested - I would like to share this neat piece of code I found off the web. Its free and very easy to setup and integrate. http://openinviter.com is php based and you can extract email contacts from just about any address book there is.
You just need to have curl set up for this.
