My Project is done in Symfony 1.4 framework (PHP). Its configured on my machine and I can access the application as http://localhost:8082.
All my urls are like
xhttpx://localhost:8082/login
xhttpx://localhost:8082/logout
xhttpx://localhost:8082/new/item
xhttpx://localhost:8082/item/edit/id/34 etc.
Now i want to change all my urls to
xhttpx://localhost:8082/pink/login
xhttpx://localhost:8082/pink/logout
xhttpx://localhost:8082/pink/new/item
xhttpx://localhost:8082/pink/item/edit/id/34 etc.
i.e. append pink after the base url (http://localhost:8087).
I want to achieve this without modifying the Symfony 1.4 files (e.g. routing.yml etc).
I guess we can achieve this by modifying the httpd.conf and by writing appropriate rewrite rule.
Note: please read xhttpx as http, as stackoverflow was not allowing me to post hyperlinks.
Please help.
Create a .htaccess file in the root, containing this:
Options +FollowSymLinks
RewriteEngine on
RewriteRule (.*) http://localhost:8082/pink/$1 [R=301,L]
This tells Apache to route all traffic in the folder that the .htaccess is in to /pink/.

I want to map URL in my localhost XAMPP into custom files.
For example:
localhost/index.php --> d:\xampp\htdocs\index.php (default)
localhost/normal/data.php --> d:\xampp\htdocs\normal\data.php (default)
localhost/view/userinfo.php --> d:\xampp\htdocs\view.php?p=userinfo (custom)
localhost/view/welcome.php --> d:\xampp\htdocs\view.php?p=welcome (custom)
So, basically, all URL that goes into inside view path will be mapped to view.php files with the filename.php (minus the .php) as its query parameter. There's actually no physical folder view, and no physical files userinfo.php and welcome.php inside the folder.
The reason that I need to do this is that so I can pass all the pages that viewing data into an "application frame" that will wrap the page with header, menu, and footer, and I don't need to give header, menu, and footer call in each page. I might have the actual files userinfo.php that I can $include_once, or I might not (I can just generate it from within the view.php), but hey, that's one of the power of this kind of framework, right? And, if someday I need to change this structure, I can change it from just within one file (view.php), not all.
Can I do this in PHP and XAMPP? How? I've noticed that some website seems to used this practice (URL which have no actual files or even path at all), but when I try to read tutorial for it, I got confused.
URL mapping in PHP?
The accepted answer listed 3 links to learn about URL rewriting. Mostly they're written for Apache in Linux, and mostly they pull all the possible scenario and configuration that I got confused which one I really need with all those long documents and technical jargon. I need just the practical step of my specific problem, and then, I will be able to start from there to explore myself if I have more advanced needs. Please help.
if you do want to go down the mod rewrite route adding the following to an .htaccess file in the site root should do it. You will need to make sure mod rewrite is on for XAMPP and I can't help you there I'm afraid. As you can see it rewrites the url, not the windows filename - so it would work on any OS.
The ([a-z]*) means it will take any filename.php with lowercase letters and redirect to /view.php?p=$1 where the $1 will be replaced by filename.
the [L,R] (L means last rule so stop processing if any more are reached, and the R means redirect (it will change the url in the browser). Use P instead to reverse Proxy (the user will still see the url they requested but the server will serve the correct file) - This will require mod_proxy as well.
<IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
RewriteEngine On
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} ^view/
RewriteRule ^view/([a-z]*).php$ /view.php?p=$1 [L,R]
</IfModule>
XAMPP uses apache so the rewrites would work the same in Windows as they do in Linux. You could place a .htaccess in the site root directory with some rewrite rules.
However, using PHP
in d:\xampp\htdocs\view\userinfo.php you could include the line
<?php
header('Location: http://localhost/view.php?p=userinfo');
?>
But this must be before any thing is echoed to the screen (even whitespace).
You can use the Apache module mod_rewrite to edit requests before they hit PHP. You want to put something like the following in a .htaccess file in your htdocs directory.
RewriteEngine on
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} ^view/
RewriteRule ^view/(.*)\.php.*$ view.php?p=$1 [L,QSA]
QSA means Query String Append. This means that if there are any GET parameters set on the original request they will be appended to the end of the new request too.
Note that this assumes that Apache is configured with AllowOverride enabled and the mod_rewrite module loaded.
I have a problem:
I have to modify an application written in Zend 1 that was deployed to the domain root. now to test it the customer gave me a root subfolder called [domain]/social
When I run it, I have a lot of problem because all paths are like "/resource", but in this case the fiddler show me that the request look for [domain]/resource ad not for [domain]/social/resource.
It happens with script sources, ajax urls, hrefs...all!
Is there a way to fix the problem?
I am not quite familiar with Zend, but is there a main config file that sets the application root folder? (Like joomla) You can modify that if it exists.
Other option would be to preg_match or str_replace all instances of the domain name in the code ( like when moving a Worpress site) but you should definately do that with a sample content not couple hundred pages).
And here is a htaccess snippet as well:
RewriteEngine On
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^www.domain.com$ [NC]
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://domain.com/social/$1 [R=301,L]
Be sure to put the htaccess under the development folder not under the root, oterwise you're facing issues.
I suggest cheking for a config file first. Hope one of this helps!
Under my root web directory, I have this two files:
aboutus.php
about-us.php
Now going to this URL http://local.com/about-us.php will render the file about-us.php. If I will do the inverse, how can I dictate the .htaccess that whenever the URL above is access, the aboutus.php will be rendered?
If you have access to the whole server config, the most efficient way to do this is to use mod_alias. Unfortunately this needs to be done in VirtualHost config - which is only accessible if you got root access to that server.
Alias /about-us.php /full/local/path/to/aboutus.php
If you cannot edit the VirtualHost config, use mod_rewrite (needs more server resources though, as every request has to be matched to those rules):
RewriteEngine On
RewriteRule ^about-us.php aboutus.php [L]
Should do the trick.
I'm trying to setup a CakePHP app in a sub-folder but run it from the root domain, eg, user requests domain.co.uk and they get the webroot at {DOCUMENT_ROOT}/version-13/app/webroot.
The hosting setup doesn't allow me to change the document root so I have the following .htaccess in the root:
<IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
RewriteEngine on
RewriteBase /
RewriteRule ^$ version-13/app/webroot/ [L]
RewriteRule (.*) version-13/app/webroot/$1 [L]
</IfModule>
This appears to do the job. However, Cake detects the sub-folder and adds it to all the URLs it creates (eg, $this->Form->create() actions, etc) so I end up with forms posted to domain.co.uk/version-13/signup instead of domain.co.uk/signup.
I know this is probably going to be something simple but I'm hitting a brick wall. No matter what I try I can't get it to work!
It's hard to understand your setup, you should explain it more. But if I got it right, check /app/Config/core.php:
Configure::write('App.fullBaseUrl', 'http://example.com');
Change your RewriteBase / to RewriteBase /version-13/ (in your .htaccess)and you should be set right up.
I had the exact same issue when I didn't have my local server set up correctly, which forced me to put my applications in a folder of my main domain.
Please note that you can have multiple apps at one core. This could be useful for you "versioning".
Ps. after a quick Google search I found the following. Didn't read it that well, but it looks like it does the same. http://cookingwithcakephp.blogspot.nl/2008/04/installing-cakephp-into-subdirectory.html
i need in naming like this:
site.com/about
site.com/contacts
Could i do it without .htaccess?
If you want a very simple implementation then you could structure your folders to allow you to do something like:
site.com/about/ - which will go to /about/index.php
site.com/contacts/ - which will go to /contacts/index.php
But obviously there's no room for any dynamic URLs, for that you would need a .htaccess implementation. They're very simple to do.
If you mean "Can I configure my webserver to parse /about and /contacts as PHP without using an .htaccess file", then no. Without further configuration (i.e. a local htaccess, or the global configuration files), Apache will not pass them through the PHP handler. You also won't be able to setup these URLs are redirects (internal or otherwise) without configuration (again via htaccess).
You could do it without a .htaccess file if you had access to the apache config files that define your site. However, if you can't use .htaccess files, you likely don't have access to the apache configs either. Might be wroth asking your host / sysadmin.
You might also be able to do it through the 404 handler if your host lets you have access to that.
that is rewriting
google search
similar to:
Options +FollowSymLinks
RewriteEngine on
Rewriterule ^about /menu/about.html
Rewriterule ^contacts /menu/contacts.html
