I have developed a website to upload and display images. And it works fine on the local server , but when I upload it to the web server it wont show the image. But the file has been uploaded to the current location in the server and the path is also fine.
I'd suggest you the full path in the url, literally type it out.
If that does not work, check that the file is readable by setting the permissions of the image file.
I think you may have problem with their format. Check your scripts and make sure their formats to be as same as your local files. If you have a programming mistake, files will save on the server, but their formats may not be actual.

Is it possible to send file from a local URL?
I need to upload files in php from your local url, eg I open the web page with:
www ... upload.php?url=c://...file.jpg,
from the url GET,I would get the file on the pc and would upload, without using html or anything else that I have to choose, just with the file url.
Important, it can only be this way, it will not be possible to choose the file during the upload, it will only be a POST or GET with the local url.

I think it is impossible for server to get a client file by using the file path.
But maybe you can use JS and FileSystemobject to prepare the file, make it to streaming and post to the server.
And you must know FSO need a high security permission and may be disabled on users' browser.
So essentially I want to insert the Path into my Database, as a string, I am not interested in uploading it - I just want local users to browse to the file then submit the form and the path to the file is added as a string. So when I echo this out into a url, people on the network can click the link to download it from the network location.

I've tried the above but I guess the file needs to be uploaded for it to get the path.

Unfortunately PHP will not help you with this as it requires you to actually upload the file.

The only solution in your case is to provide a text input and ask the user to paste the network path to the file. Perhaps if you provide them simple instructions on how to get the network path it will make their task easier.
I have a recursive function which generates about 200.txt files. I am running this application on a local server.
Basically, the front end just has a file upload field, which you just choose a .csv, which it then generates all the .txt files from that, but rather than saving them on the wamp server, is it possible to save them in a specific location?
Example, if I put another field in my front end called 'fileLocation', and the user types in the pathname.
Obviously i'd have to check if it's a directory etc, but is this possible to say save all the files on:
/Volumes/computer/Users/username/Desktop/test/

No, is not possible to access computer files this way by using a localhost. You could zip all files and make the browser download them. Like is described here
I'm having a problem when I try to open files that were generated by my CMS on my windows machine. It has an upload function that saves the file on a given location (it is on my user folder, where I'm supposed to have all the write and read permissions).
All I can see in that folder is a generic thumbnail, the ones generated by windows for each image type, PNGs and JPEGs in this case. I tried to change de image permissions and set it to the current computer user but it doesn't work. And I'm unable to move these files to another location (upload them to the server via FTP).
I wonder if there is a way to change this behavior.
One thing I noticed is that if I copy and paste those files, I can see its contents normally. I know I can do that to each of them and rename, but there are dozens of images in that folder... don't wanna do the same thing everytime I upload a new image.

This is happening only to the images that were moved (I'm using php's move_uploaded_file function, btw), not to the ones that where generated (croped, resized and so on).
It`s happening because Windows keep file permissions of TEMP folder (usually c:/windows/temp) when moving a file.
To prevent it you need to change "upload_tmp_dir" in "php.ini" to your server directory or set wide permissions to your windows temp folder.
You probably have an error in some php file which is preventing the image from being displayed correctly.
What i would do in order to detect the problem is to comment out the header() calls in the php file responsible for displaying the image and see if there is any output other than the image data.
Inspect the whole output, it only takes a character to break everything, so check if there are no blank lines at the top or bottom of the output. And in case you have an error log, consult that, it will help you trace the problem quickly.
When i have this problem, it's usually a notice or a warning showing up during the process of the image generation, and if you haven't disabled errors from being output to the screen, the notice text will be considered as part of the image data which makes the browser unable to interpret your image.
If you'd like i can take a look closely for you but i would need to see what you are doing in that php file to be able to tell you for sure.
I just want to know that if I am using move_uploaded_file function and use two argument first as the name of file and second as the destination.
Normally I have uploaded many files with class uploader but now I want to give the destination as http://www.example.com/testing/

If you are passing http://www.mydomain.com/testing/ as the target, this is wrong.
You can't just upload files to servers via HTTP, you only can do that to local folders, can you paste the exact code so we can know better what are you trying to do?
move_uploaded_file is a server-side function, so all the paths should be specified server side.
If your upload.php (i'm assuming the filename) is in the main directory of the website www.mydomain.com/ which is probably /home/youruser/public_html/ then you can specify the destination as simply "testing/"
If your upload file is in some nested directory, then it may work better to specify the full destination path:
/home/youruser/public_html/testing
