I have a ton of experience connecting to MySQL, but I'm attempting to connect to a SQL Server for the first time.
I've been given an IP address, server name, and a port. I've tried every combination I can think of for the server string to make the connection, but nothing appears to be working:
"127.0.0.1:1443\servername"
"127.0.0.1,1443\servername"
"servername\127.0.0.1:1443"
"servername\127.0.0.1,1443"
etc...
All fail.
I guess I'm asking for the correct formatting of the server parameter string to connect to MS SQL from a php script.
$ip = '127.0.0.1';
$port = '1433';
$server_name = 'servername';
$server = "$ip,$port\servername"; // <-- this is the line I need help with
$username = 'user';
$password = 'pass';
$con = mssql_connect($server, $username, $password)
or die('Could not connect to the server!');
Thanks in advance!
if you are using linux
$con = mssql_connect($server_name.":".$port,$username,$password);
or on windows
$con = mssql_connect($server_name.",".$port,$username,$password);
to connect mssql server
$ip = '127.0.0.1';
$port = '1433';
$server_name = 'servername';
$server = "$ip.":".$port";
$username = 'user';
$password = 'pass';
$con = mssql_connect($server, $username, $password)
or die('Could not connect to the server!');
This should work

I`m working on a java swing app. so that i have created a database called c_app in MySQL server workbench. what i need is to fetch data into a HTML page using PHP.
$username = "root";
$password = "";
$hostname = "localhost:3307";
$db = "c_app";
//connection to the database
$dbhandle = mysqli_connect($hostname, $username, $password, $db)
or die("Unable to connect to MySQL");
This code segment gives me Warning: mysqli_connect(): (HY000/1049): Unknown database 'c_app' in C:\xampp\htdocs\C_AppWeb\linkpage.php on line 7
Unable to connect to MySQL
What is the problem here? do i need phpmyadmin database rather than MySQl database? can anyone help me?
First one, both phpmyadmin and workbench are not database. They are tools to work with database.
I see you use port 3307 in your code, so let you try:
$username = "root";
$password = "";
$hostname = "localhost";
$port = 3307;
$db = "c_app";
//connection to the database
$dbhandle = mysqli_connect($hostname, $username, $password, $db, $port)
or die("Unable to connect to MySQL");
I am new to php/sql and i have a login system which runs on my local host using xammp and it all works fine. I now want to upload it to my website but the code no longer works... I have created a sql db on my hosting service and tried to change the code.
the code that is used on the local host is
<?php
$dbServername = "localhost";
$dbUsername = "root";
$dbPassword = "";
$dbName = "loginsystem";
$conn = mysqli_connect($dbServername, $dbUsername, $dbPassword, $dbName);
and this is the code that i have got from my hosting.
<?php
$host_name = 'db682827654.db.1and1.com';
$database = 'db682827654';
$user_name = 'dbo682827654';
$password = '<Enter your password here.>';
$conn = mysql_connect($host_name, $user_name, $password, $database);
if (mysql_errno()) {
die('<p>Failed to connect to MySQL: '.mysql_error().'</p>');
} else {
echo '<p>Connection to MySQL server successfully established.</p >';
}
?>
however this brings up an errror message. I have changed the password to the password for my database but its still not connecting.
This is the error message.
Failed to connect to MySQL: Access denied for user 'dbo706265806'#'217.160.62.78' (using password: YES)
Any help would be greatly appreciated
use mysqli_connect (not mysql_connect) like localhost:
<?php
$dbServername = "db682827654.db.1and1.com";
$dbUsername = "dbo682827654";
$dbPassword = "<Enter your password here.=)>";
$dbName = "db682827654";
$conn = mysqli_connect($dbServername, $dbUsername, $dbPassword, $dbName);
?>
On your computer you are using mysqli_connect, but on the server you are trying to use mysql_connect. Just use the same file from your computer and simply change $dbServername, $dbUsername, $dbPassword and $dbName to match those that your hosting provided.
I'm using PHP 5.5 under Mac Yosemite, the default php with this SO. i'm trying to connect to MSSQL DB server but it's imposible with a lot of alternatives.
I tried to install freetds and the command works but when i tried with PHP...its look he is trying to load but the connection close. My code on PHP is like this:
$server = 'XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX' ;
$user = "username";
$pass = "password";
$DB = "";
$link = mssql_connect($server, $user, $pass) ;
if(!$link){
die('Something goes wrong');
}
I look into php info and it's enabled:
php info
¿Someone knows what is the best alternative to connect to mssql db and works?
Use mssql_get_last_message() to find out what the error is, then, fix the problem.
$server = 'XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX' ;
$user = "username";
$pass = "password";
$DB = "";
$link = mssql_connect($server, $user, $pass) ;
echo mssql_get_last_message();
echo mssql_min_error_severity();
die();
Right now it's working with these lines:
try {
$hostname = 'XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX';
$port = 1433;
$dbname = "YOUR_DB";
$username = "YOUR_USERNAME";
$pw = "YOUR_PASS";
$dbh = new PDO ("dblib:host=$hostname:$port;dbname=$dbname","$username","$pw");
} catch (PDOException $e) {
echo "Failed to get DB handle: " . $e->getMessage() . "\n";
exit;
}
First you have to install PDO_DBLIB in your system.
I typically connect using the following:
$db_host = "localhost";
$db_username = "bill";
$db_pass = "mypassword";
$db_name = "theDB";
mysql_connect("$db_host","$db_username","$db_pass", TRUE) or die(mysql_error());
mysql_select_db("$db_name") or die("no database by that name");
I tried changing the host to the RDS endpoint below with no luck:
$db_host = "mysql7.1234567890123.us-west-2.rds.amazonaws.com";
-The security group has inbound rules that allow my IP.
-I've tried adding "10.0.0.0/8" to the security group from Connecting From PHP Server to MySQL Server on Amazon AWS
Other info: http://docs.aws.amazon.com/elasticbeanstalk/latest/dg/create_deploy_PHP_legacy.rds.html
There are couple of things and use PDO or mysqli to connect. If you've made sure that you can connect to RDS by setting the right security group, then you've got the main issues squared away.
Connect to Amazon RDS with this in PHP:
$dbhost = $_SERVER['RDS_HOSTNAME'];
$dbport = $_SERVER['RDS_PORT'];
$dbname = $_SERVER['RDS_DB_NAME'];
$dsn = "mysql:host={$dbhost};port={$dbport};dbname={$dbname}";
$username = $_SERVER['RDS_USERNAME'];
$password = $_SERVER['RDS_PASSWORD'];
$dbh = new PDO($dsn, $username, $password);
$link = mysqli_connect($_SERVER['RDS_HOSTNAME'], $_SERVER['RDS_USERNAME'], $_SERVER['RDS_PASSWORD'], $_SERVER['RDS_DB_NAME'], $_SERVER['RDS_PORT']);
Example 1. Example using PDO to connect to an RDS database
$dsn = 'mysql:host=mydbinstance.abcdefghijkl.us-east-1.rds.amazonaws.com;port=3306;dbname=mydb';
$username = 'sa';
$password = 'mypassword';
$dbh = new PDO($dsn, $username, $password);
Example 2. Example using mysqli_connect() to connect to an RDS database
$link = mysqli_connect('mydbinstance.abcdefghijkl.us-east-1.rds.amazonaws.com', 'sa', 'mypassword', 'mydb', 3306);
if nothing works, launch a mysql client like navicat or mysql workbench (free) and punch in all the necessary fields and try to connect and see if it loads the db.
This ended up working for me. Thanks for you help!
$db_host = 'instance2.123456789.us-west-2.rds.amazonaws.com:3306'; //RDS Endpoint...
$db_username = 'myusername';
$db_pass = 'mypassword';
$db_name = 'myDB';
mysql_connect("$db_host","$db_username","$db_pass", TRUE) or die(mysql_error());
mysql_select_db("$db_name") or die("no database by that name");
my I am trying to make login registration page in php.
apache and mysql is up and running.
I am executing the following code
<?php
$db_host = "localhost:777";
$db_username = "root";
$db_pass = "";
$db_name = "login";
mysql_connect("$db_host","$db_username","$db_pass") or die ("could not connect to mysql");
mysql_select_db("$db_name") or die ("no database");
?>
I am using localhost:777 because port 80 is being used by skype.
phpMyAdmin is up and running.
The output i am getting is nothing but the above code only.
can anyone help me on this issue?
Use MySQLi or PDO not MySQL.
You're passing the variables as a string using " " in the mysql_connect function
The syntax is as follows: mysqli_connect(host,username,password,dbname,port,socket);
<?php
$db_host = "localhost";
$db_port = "777";
$db_username = "root";
$db_pass = "";
$db_name = "login";
$conn = mysqli_connect($db_host,$db_username,$db_pass,$db_name,$db_port);
if (mysqli_connect_errno())
{
echo "Failed to connect to MySQL: " . mysqli_connect_error();
}
?>
Try that and it should work. Please make sure you understand the code above and the error you made. Do not simply copy and paste please you will not learn from it.
