Replace Spaces with Underscores in Uploaded File - php

I have a basic script that allows my site members to upload short samples of their compositions for customers to listen to.
Some file names have spaces which obviously causes problems when trying to play the samples. Is there a way to replace these spaces with underscores between uploading to the temp directory and moving the file to the 'samples' directory?
<?
$url = "http://domain.com/uploads/samples/";
//define the upload path
$uploadpath = "/home/public_html/uploads/samples";
//check if a file is uploaded
if($_FILES['userfile']['name']) {
$filename = trim(addslashes($_FILES['userfile']['name']));
//move the file to final destination
if(move_uploaded_file($_FILES['userfile']['tmp_name'],
$uploadpath."/". $filename)) {
echo "
bla bla bla, the final html output
";
} else{
if ($_FILES['userfile']['error'] > 0)
{
switch ($_FILES['userfile']['error'])
{
case 1: echo 'File exceeded upload_max_filesize'; break;
case 2: echo 'File exceeded max_file_size'; break;
case 3: echo 'File only partially uploaded'; break;
case 4: echo 'No file uploaded'; break;
}
exit;
}
}
}
?>

After this line:
$filename = trim(addslashes($_FILES['userfile']['name']));
Write:
$filename = str_replace(' ', '_', $filename);
A filename like hello world.mp3 (two spaces) would come out as hello__world.mp3 (two underscores), to avoid this you could do this instead:
$filename = preg_replace('/\s+/', '_', $filename);

$filename = str_replace(' ', '-', trim(addslashes($_FILES['userfile']['name'])));
Why addslashes though? This also seems a little too simple -- am I missing something?

try;
$filename = trim(str_replace(" ","_", $_FILES['userfile']['name']));

php move_uploaded_file not working when filename has spaces

i am uploading a file to the server. everything works fine unless the uploaded file has a space in it.
I tried to use:
str_replace(" ", "_", $_FILES['image']['name']);
My code is
$image_name= str_replace(" ", "_", $_FILES['image']['name']);
$image_tmp_name = $_FILES['image']['tmp_name'];
$image=$_FILES['image'];
$url = "http://jkshahclasses.com/push_images/$image_name";
if(move_uploaded_file($image_tmp_name,"../../push_images/$image_name"))
{
echo "file uploaded";
}
else
{
echo "error: file not uploaded";
}
Thanks in advance
You can use this function to slugify your file name before uploded :
public function slugify($text)
{
// replace all non letters or digits by _
$text = preg_replace('/\W+/', '_', $text);
// trim and lowercase
$text = strtolower(trim($text, '_'));
return $text;
}
But first you have to get only file name you can do it with this function :
$file_name = pathinfo($path, PATHINFO_FILENAME);
If you want to get file extension you have to use :
$file_ext = pathinfo($path, PATHINFO_EXTENSION);

How to check given word occures at last position of string in php

I want to get an alternate of an sql query WHERE field LIKE '%subStr' in PHP for example
actually I want to conditionally of different file types so I want to check whether the extension is .ppt or .pptx or .pptm .ppm or any thing else.
Make use of array_pop and explode
<?php
$filename='new.newfile.ppt';
$file=explode('.',$filename);
echo $ext = array_pop($file); // ppt
You can easily strip out the last characters of a filename string to achieve this:
<?php
$filename = "myFile.txt";
$pathinfo = pathinfo($filename);
$extension = $pathinfo['extension'];
switch ($extension) {
case "ppt":
echo "Extension is .ppt";
break;
case "txt":
echo "Extension is .txt";
break;
}
?>
You could do it this way.
$file = 'my-file.ppt';
$parts = pathinfo($file);
$extensions = array("ppt", "pptx", "pptm", "ppm");
if (in_array($parts['extension'], $extensions)) {
echo "we have {$parts['extension']}";
}
else {
echo "no matches";
}

How to Rename Image File on Upload Using this Script

Please could someone show me where i need to change the code so that the image uploaded is renamed to "freddy" for e.g.
But still carries the correct existing extension i.e jpg, png, gif.
Thanks In Advance
<?php
// define a constant for the maximum upload size
define ('MAX_FILE_SIZE', 1024 * 50);
if (array_key_exists('upload', $_POST)) {
// define constant for upload folder
define('UPLOAD_DIR', '/home/richard/public_html/testing/editable-images/');
// replace any spaces in original filename with underscores
$file = str_replace(' ', '_', $_FILES['image']['name']);
// create an array of permitted MIME types
$permitted = array('image/gif', 'image/jpeg', 'image/pjpeg',
'image/png');
// upload if file is OK
if (in_array($_FILES['image']['type'], $permitted)
&& $_FILES['image']['size'] > 0
&& $_FILES['image']['size'] <= MAX_FILE_SIZE) {
switch($_FILES['image']['error']) {
case 0:
// check if a file of the same name has been uploaded
// Uncomment to stop overwritten files >>>> if (!file_exists(UPLOAD_DIR . $file)) {
// move the file to the upload folder and rename it
$success =
move_uploaded_file($_FILES['image']['tmp_name'], UPLOAD_DIR .
$file);
// Uncomment to stop overwritten files >>>> } else {
// Uncomment to stop overwritten files >>>> $result = 'A file of the same name already exists.';
// Uncomment to stop overwritten files >>>>> }
if ($success) {
$result = "$file uploaded successfully.";
} else {
$result = "Error uploading $file. Please try again.";
}
break;
case 3:
case 6:
case 7:
case 8:
$result = "Error uploading $file. Please try again.";
break;
case 4:
$result = "You didn't select a file to be uploaded.";
}
} else {
$result = "$file is either too big or not an image.";
}
}
?>
// get file extension
$ext = end(explode($_FILES['image']['name']));
// name your file and preserve file extension
$file = "freddy.".$ext;
// create an array of permitted MIME types

file rename while uploading

I have a problem here im trying to upload a file
first time it is moving the filename from temp it its respective directory,
but again i try ot upload the aa different file with the same name it should rename the
first time uploaded file
with date_somefilename.csv and give the filename to its original state
for example a file test.csv ,im uploading it for first time it will upload to
corresponding directory as
test.csv,when i upload a different csv file with same name test.csv
I need to get the
test.csv (latest uploaded file)
06222012130209_test.csv(First time uploaded file)
The code is below
$place_file = "$path/$upload_to/$file_name";
if (!file_exists('uploads/'.$upload_to.'/'.$file_name))
{
move_uploaded_file($tmp, $place_file);
}else{
move_uploaded_file($tmp, $place_file);
$arr1 = explode('.csv',$file_name);
$todays_date = date("mdYHis");
$new_filename = $todays_date.'_'.$arr1[0].'.csv';
echo $str_cmd = "mv " . 'uploads/'.$upload_to.'/'.$file_name . " uploads/$upload_to/$new_filename";
system($str_cmd, $retval);
}
See comments in code.
$place_file = "$path/$upload_to/$file_name";
if (!file_exists($place_file)) {
move_uploaded_file($tmp, $place_file);
} else {
// first rename
$pathinfo = pathinfo($place_file);
$todays_date = date("mdYHis");
$new_filename = $pathinfo['dirname'].DIRECTORY_SEPARATOR.$todays_date.'_'.$pathinfo['basename'];
rename($place_file, $new_filename)
// and then move, not vice versa
move_uploaded_file($tmp, $place_file);
}
DIRECTORY_SEPARATOR is php constant. Value is '/' or '\', depending of operation system.
pathinfo() is php function, that return information about path: dirname, basename, extension, filename.
What about...
$place_file = "$path/$upload_to/$file_name";
if (file_exists($place_file)) {
$place_file = date("mdYHis")."_".$file_name;
}
if (!move_uploaded_file($tmp, $place_file)) {
echo "Could not move file";
exit;
}
I would not add a date to the file if it already exists. Instead I would just add a number to the end of it. Keep it simple.
$counter = 0;
do {
// destination path path
$destination = $path.'/'.$upload_to.'/';
// get extension
$file_ext = end(explode('.', $file_name));
// add file_name without extension
if (strlen($file_ext))
$destination .= substr($file_name, 0, strlen($file_name)-strlen($file_ext)-1);
// add counter
if ($counter)
$destination .= '_'.$counter;
// add extension
if (strlen($file_ext))
$destination .= $file_ext;
$counter++;
while (file_exists($destination));
// move file
move_uploaded_file($tmp, $destination);
$target = "uploads/$upload_to/$file_name";
if (file_exists($target)) {
$pathinfo = pathinfo($target);
$newName = "$pathinfo[dirname]/" . date('mdYHis') . "_$pathinfo[filename].$pathinfo[extension]";
rename($target, $newName);
}
move_uploaded_file($tmp, $target);
Beware though: Security threats with uploads.
how about something like this?
<?php
$tmp = '/tmp/foo'; // whatever you got out of $_FILES
$desitnation = '/tmp/bar.xyz'; // wherever you want that file to be saved
if (file_exists($desitnation)) {
$file = basename($destination)
$dot = strrpos($file, '.');
// rename existing file to contain its creation time
// "/temp/bar.xyz" -> "/temp/bar.2012-12-12-12-12-12.xyz"
$_destination = dirname($destination) . '/'
. substr($file, 0, $dot + 1)
. date('Y-m-d-H-i-s', filectime($destination))
. substr($file, $dot);
rename($destination, $_destination);
}
move_uploaded_file($tmp, $destination);

How to change name of uploaded file without changing extension

i'd like to change the name of uploaded file to md5(file_name).ext, where ext is extension of uploaded file. Is there any function which can help me to do it?
$filename = basename($_FILES['file']['name']);
$extension = pathinfo($filename, PATHINFO_EXTENSION);
$new = md5($filename).'.'.$extension;
if (move_uploaded_file($_FILES['file']['tmp_name'], "/path/{$new}"))
{
// other code
}
Use this function to change the file name to md5 with the same extension
function convert_filename_to_md5($filename) {
$filename_parts = explode('.',$filename);
$count = count($filename_parts);
if($count> 1) {
$ext = $filename_parts[$count-1];
unset($filename_parts[$count-1]);
$filename_to_md5 = implode('.',$filename_parts);
$newName = md5($filename_to_md5). '.' . $ext ;
} else {
$newName = md5($filename);
}
return $newName;
}
<?php
$filename = $_FILES['file']['name'];
$extension = pathinfo($filename, PATHINFO_EXTENSION);
$new = rand(0000,9999);
$newfilename=$new.$filename.$extension;
if (move_uploaded_file($_FILES['file']['tmp_name'],$newfilename))
{
//advanced code
}
?>
Find below php code to get file extension and change file name
<?php
if(isset($_FILES['upload_Image']['name']) && $_FILES['upload_Image']['name']!=='') {
$ext = substr($_FILES['upload_Image']['name'], strpos($_FILES['upload_Image']['name'],'.'), strlen($_FILES['upload_Image']['name'])-1);
$imageName = time().$ext;
$normalDestination = "Photos/Orignal/" . $imageName;
move_uploaded_file($_FILES['upload_Image']['tmp_name'], $normalDestination);
}
?>
This one work
<?php
// Your file name you are uploading
$file_name = $HTTP_POST_FILES['ufile']['name'];
// random 4 digit to add to our file name
// some people use date and time in stead of random digit
$random_digit=rand(0000,9999);
//combine random digit to you file name to create new file name
//use dot (.) to combile these two variables
$new_file_name=$random_digit.$file_name;
//set where you want to store files
//in this example we keep file in folder upload
//$new_file_name = new upload file name
//for example upload file name cartoon.gif . $path will be upload/cartoon.gif
$path= "upload/".$new_file_name;
if($ufile !=none)
{
if(copy($HTTP_POST_FILES['ufile']['tmp_name'], $path))
{
echo "Successful<BR/>";
//$new_file_name = new file name
//$HTTP_POST_FILES['ufile']['size'] = file size
//$HTTP_POST_FILES['ufile']['type'] = type of file
echo "File Name :".$new_file_name."<BR/>";
echo "File Size :".$HTTP_POST_FILES['ufile']['size']."<BR/>";
echo "File Type :".$HTTP_POST_FILES['ufile']['type']."<BR/>";
}
else
{
echo "Error";
}
}
?>
