How to post a variable value from javascript to PHP? - php

I am using JavaScript to pass a variable to another php file. I have a value in javascript, and I want to pass it as a post variable to another php file.
Javascript code:
<html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">
<head>
<script type="text/javascript" src="js/jquery.js"></script>
<script type="text/javascript" >
//Important code here to post a variable to bh.php:
$(document).ready(function(){
$('#op_comp_id').load('bh.php').show();
$('#get_value_id').keyup(function() {
$.post('bh.php', { id: form.get_value.value },
function(result){
$('#op_comp_id').html(result).show();
});
});
});
</script>
</head>
<body>
<?$id = $_GET['id'];?>
<form name="form">
<input type="text" id="get_value_id" name="get_value" value="<?php echo $id ?>">
</input>
</form>
<div id="op_comp_id"></div>
</body>
</html>
This was my attempt to pass a variable value from javascript to bh.php in post mode.
bh.php?id=value
Is there an alternative way or better way to do this?

Use following method to pass a JavaScript variable to php with a post:
$(input[name=get_value]).bind('keyup click blur focus change paste',function(){
var id = $(this).val();
$.ajax({
type: "POST",
url: "bh.php",
async: false,
data: "clientId="+id ,
success:function(response){
$('#op_comp_id').html(response).show();
}
});
}
bh.php use following code
<?php
$id = $_REQUEST['clientId'];
// your code
?>

You can also use hidden Inputfields with javascript. The javascript gets the value via getElementbyId and replace it with the value of a hidden input (also with getElementbyId). Then javascript automaticly submit the form with the hidden input in it (document.forms["formID"].submit();). Thats it. The Value will be send via the form method. So you can send it via post very easy.

jquery is resetting my div content

I'm trying to change the content of div using jquery. but the content flashes and resets the div. i cannot use return false; because there is another button for post text field value. i want to keep the changes of div. here is my code:
<html>
<head>
<meta charset="UTF-8">
<title></title>
<script type="text/javascript" src="jquery.js"></script>
</head>
<body>
<div>
<form id="form" method="POST">
<input type="text" name="gname" id="gname"/></br>
<button id="btn">Set</button>
<button id="nbtn">View</button>
</form>
</div>
<div id="outp">
</div>
</body>
<script>
$("#btn").click(function(event) {
$.post("send.php", {
named: $("#gname").val()}, function(data) {
alert(data);
});
});
</script>
<script>
$("#nbtn").click(function(e) {
$("#outp").html("<?php include './view.php'; ?>");
});
</script>
It's not jQuery; it's that your form is being posted. So your change is made, but then the form is posted and the page is refreshed from the server.
The default type of button elements is "submit". To make one or both of those buttons just a button, use type="button".
Alternately, if you want to allow the form to be used when JavaScript is disabled (e.g., allow it to be posted normally), leave the buttons as submit buttons but prevent form submission using JavaScript. E.g.:
$("#form").submit(false); // Prevents the form being submitted in the normal way.
Any buttons inside a form are considered submit buttons.
So you need to add event.preventDefault() to your .click code.
Also, why are your scripts outside body section?
You can try with ajax and catch success and error:
$("#btn").click(function() {
var named: $("#gname").val();
$.ajax({
url: 'send.php',
type: 'POST',
data: {param1: 'value1'},
})
.done(function(data) {
console.log("Post success"+data);
})
.fail(function() {
console.log("Post error"+data);
});
});

Passing value from ajax to php variable in same page

Since 3days i am trying my best to get the solution from Ajax & PHP, i tried all tutorial but i am unable to get the solution, i am new to Ajax,Jquery but my question is really simple to you all.
i have developed website using jquery & PHP, i have created menu using HTML (ul, li) so what i want is, if i click on menu item ajax should send value to php variable and then execute php function, but all this should happen in same page,..
Please help me to resolve the issues.
So far, I have tried the following:
JavaScript:
<script type="text/javascript">
$("#btn").click(function() {
var val = "Hi";
$.ajax ({
url: "oldindex.php",
data: val,
success: function() {
alert("Hi, testing");
}
});
});
</script>
PHP and HTML:
<input type="submit" id="btn" value="submit">
<form name="numbers" id="numbers">
<input type="text" name="number" id="number">
</form>
<div id="number_filters">
1
2
3
</div>
so if i click on href, i should get the value to php variable it should happen in same page only
index.php page
<script type="text/javascript" src="//ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.10.1/jquery.min.js"></script>
<script type="text/javascript">
$(document).ready(function(){
$("#btn").click(function() {
var val = "Hi";
$.ajax ({
url: "ajax.php",
data: { val : val },
success: function( result ) {
alert("Hi, testing");
alert( result );
}
});
});
});
</script>
<input type="submit" id="btn" value="submit">
<form name="numbers" id="numbers">
<input type="text" name="number" id="number">
</form>
<div id="number_filters">
1
2
3
</div>
ajax.php page
<?php
echo ( $_GET['val'] );
Let's see:
1- If you are doing a AJAX call, your page won't be refreshed. So if you try to send variables to the same page that makes the AJAX call it won't work, here's why. When you are able to see the page and execute the AJAX call, the code is already on the client side (your web explorer), there no PHP will be seen or executed (PHP is executed on the server only), so it's imposible for the same page to capture and process variables you pass to it using AJAX (since AJAX WON'T refresh the page, that's the point of AJAX).
2- If you are using AJAX you don't have to call to the same page. Call to another PHP, it will make the server side work for you, then return the result:
success: function(data) {
alert("Hi, server returned this: "+data);
}
3- When you pass variables using AJAX you have to assign the variable a name, so it can be read in the PHP side:
data: {value: val},
4- For what you have in your question, you don't start the AJAX call clicking a href, you have the AJAX function linked to a input type=submit, it also is outside a form.. so let's do this better:
<button id="btn">submit</button>
Here is your solution as given sample code:
<?php if(!empty($_SERVER['HTTP_X_REQUESTED_WITH']) && strtolower($_SERVER['HTTP_X_REQUESTED_WITH']) == 'xmlhttprequest') {
echo $_GET['q'];
exit;
} ?>
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">
<html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">
<head>
<script type='text/javascript' src="http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.7.1/jquery.min.js"></script>
<script type="text/javascript">
$(function(){
$("#btn").click(function(e) {
e.preventDefault();
var val = "Hi";
$.ajax ({
url: "test8.php",
// wrong query. you are not passing key , so here q is key
data: 'q=' + val,
success: function(returnResponseData) {
alert('Ajax return data is: ' + returnResponseData);
}
});
});
});
</script>
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" />
<title>Untitled Document</title>
</head>
<body>
<form name="numbers" id="numbers">
<input type="text" name="number" id="number">
<input type="submit" name='button' id="btn" value="submit">
</form>
</body>
</html>

Using javascript/jquery to submit a form upon the loading of a page

I wrote an array to pass variables in the GET to a search page. The search page only has 4 fields but I'm only passing the most important variables, first name and last. Here is the array:
<?php echo "<td><a href='" . matry::base_to('test/trace', array('first'=>$patient->first , 'last' =>$patient->last)) . "'><ul class='controls'>
<li id='check_orders'><`span class='symbols'>L</span><span class='label'>Skip Trace</span></li>
</ul></a></td>";?>
When the page loads i'm just echoing the _GET to pre populate the first and last input fields on that page..
What I'm looking for is a script that will execute the search with the first and last name fields populated as that page loads automatically. Additionally, when the search is executed it's populating in an iframe. (forgot about that part)~!
I tried using:
<script>document.getElementById('stack').submit();</script>
<form action='http://xxxx.yyyyyyy.com/stuffhere' name='es' target="my_iframe" id="stack">
with no avail.
Your <script> is running before the <form> exists.
Move the <script> below the <form>.
You are calling the submit function before the form is even loaded on the page.
Place the script tag after the closing form tag or call submit on document ready or window onload.
<form id-"stack">
... form fields...
</form>
<script>document.getElementById('stack').submit();</script>
or
<script>$(function(){$('#stack').submit();})</script>
Please imagine this simple example:
<html>
<head>
<script type="text/javascript">
function body_onload() {
var form = document.getElementById('theform');
form.submit();
}
</script>
</head>
<body onload="body_onload()">
<form id="theform" action="action.php">
<input type="hidden" name="query" id="query" value="foo" />
</form>
</body>
</html>
It will submit the form after the page has loaded.
But are you really searching for a non AJAX solution?
Try this, been using this on a redirect page for a while. This of course needs to be below the from so it is run after the browser process the form.
<script type="text/javascript">
function send(o)
{
var f = document.getElementById("theForm");
f.submit();
}
send();
</script>
If you want to submit the form when the page loads you should change your code to this:
<script>window.onload = function(){ document.getElementById('stack').submit(); }</script>
However this will redirect the user (as if they have clicked a form submit button). To avoid this you will need to use AJAX (I recommend using jQuery to do this). See example below:
$(document).ready(function(e) {
var form_data = $("#form_id").serialize();
var form_url = $("#form_id").attr("action");
var form_method = $("#form_id").attr("method").toUpperCase();
$.ajax({
url: form_url,
type: form_method,
data: form_data,
cache: false
});
});

$.ajax data not posting specified value to $_POST

Okay, what have I done wrong here?
I'm trying to .POST data from a Form with JQuery $.ajax function and return json data. But every time the post data is null.
Here is the HTML/JQuery Part
<!DOCTYPE HTML>
<html>
<head>
<link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jqueryui/1/themes/redmond/jquery-ui.css">
<script src="http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1/jquery.min.js"></script>
<script src="http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jqueryui/1/jquery-ui.min.js"></script>
</head>
<body>
<form action="testform" method="post">
OLD ID:
<input id="OldID" name="OldID" type="text"><br>
NewID:
<input id="NewID" name="NewID" type="text"><br>
<input id="do" name="do" type="button" value="Get New ID">
</form>
<script type="text/javascript">
var CID = $('#OldID').val();
$(document).ready(function(){
$('#do').click(function(){
sendValue();
});
function sendValue(CID){
$.ajax({
type: 'POST',
url: 'getNewID.php',
data: {OldID: CID},
dataType: 'json',
cache: false,
success:
function(data){
$('#NewID').val(data.NewID);
}
}) }
});
</script>
</body>
</html>
Here's the PHP page
<?php
if (isset($_POST['OldID'])){
$value = $_POST['OldID'];
}else{
$value = "ELSE VALUE";
}
echo json_encode(array("NewID"=>$value));
?>
I'm sure this is a simple mistake on my part but I'm just going in circles at this point.
Thanks in advance!
$('#do').click(function(){
sendValue();
});
should be:
$('#do').click(function(){
sendValue("VALUE TO SEND TO THE SERVER");
});
because
function sendValue(CID){
takes the scope of CID which it seems you might think should be this var CID = $('#OldID').val();
Your mistake is that you are getting the value of the OldID field in your script, and not on some event handler method. This causes when the script is loaded (when the page is being viewed), the value of the text input is kept on variable CID. and when the user clicks on the #do button, then the value of CID is still the same as the one when the page was loaded. So no value is stored in CID variable, so no value is sent via AJAX.
Define another function (Say sendOldID) that reads the value of the text input in the CID variable, and then calls the sendValue() method with CID paramter. The use that function as the event handler of the #do button clicked.
<script type="text/javascript">
$(document).ready(function(){
$('#do').click(function(){
sendOldID();
});
function sendOldID() {
var CID = $('#OldID').val();
sendValue(CID);
}
function sendValue(CID) {
$.ajax({
type: 'POST',
url: 'getNewID.php',
data: {OldID: CID},
dataType: 'json',
cache: false,
success:
function(data){
$('#NewID').val(data.NewID);
}
}) }
});
</script>

Pass a JS variable to a PHP variable

I have a JavaScript value given by Google maps and I need to save it in a MySQL database.
Actually I have the variable
<script>
...
var lugar = results[0].geometry.location;// this gives me a latitud, longitud value, like: -34.397, 150.644
...
</script>
And I need to pass that variable to the PHP variable lugar
<?
$lugar= ?????
?>
You can use jQuery ajax for this, but you need to create another script that save on your database:
<script>
$.ajax({
url: "save.in.my.database.php",
type: "post",
dataType:"json",
data: {
lugar: results[0].geometry.location
},
success: function(data){
alert('saved');
},
error: function(){
alert('error');
}
});
</script>
"save.in.my.database.php" receives a $_POST['lugar'] and you can save on your database.
You will need to pass it via a form submission, cookie, or through a querystring.
You can POST through a form or pass it in the URL if you're doing it on page transition, then just use $_POST or $_GET to receive the variable.
If you need it done seamlessly then you might want to look at using AJAX.
TIZAG AJAX Tutorial
This will convert js variable to php variable
<script>
function sud(){
javavar=document.getElementById("text").value;
document.getElementById("rslt").innerHTML="<?php
$phpvar='"+javavar+"';
echo $phpvar.$phpvar;?>";
}
function sud2(){
document.getElementById("rslt2").innerHTML="<?php
echo $phpvar;?>";
}
</script>
<body>
<div id="rslt">
</div>
<div id="rslt2">
</div>
<input type="text" id="text" />
<button onClick="sud()" >Convert</button>
<button onClick="sud2()">Once Again</button>
</body>
