I'm beginning to hate AJax, I'm finding it really difficult to get any kind of useful information back when posting with jQuery.
I have a script that adds or removes some info when a button is clicked. The jquery posts to a file which calls a function in a class. This part works, but I cant get a success message back to manipulate the front end. Here is my code.
The php works but I keep getting the error JSON.parse: unexpected character which I have googled, but my json looks ok?
jQuery
$('.fave').click(function(){
var favId = $(this).attr('data-user-fave');
var params = {};
params['fave_id'] = favId;
params['fav_flag'] = '1';
$.post('index.php?link=my_applications', params, function(data){
var data = $.parseJSON(data);
if(data.message === 'success'){
alert(data.flag);
}
else{
alert("Fail");
}
});
code in file that jQuery posts to
$profile = new profile();
if($_POST['fav_flag'] == '1'){
$js = $profile->fave_user();
echo json_encode($js);
}
function in class profile
function fave_user(){
$query = "SELECT * FROM `favourite` WHERE user_id = '{$_SESSION['loginArr']['user_id']}' AND fave_id = '{$_POST['fave_Id']}'";
$nr = $GLOBALS['DB']->num_rows($query);
if($nr >= 1){
//exists so remove
$query = "DELETE FROM `favourites` WHERE user_id = '{$_SESSION['loginArr']['user_id']}' AND fave_id='{$_POST['fave_Id']}'";
$GLOBALS['DB']->deleteQuery($query);
$return["message"]="success";
$return["flag"]="del";
return $return;
}
else{
//not a fave so add
$query = "INSERT INTO `favourite` (user_id, fave_id) VALUES ('{$_SESSION['loginArr']['user_id']}', '{$_POST['fave_id']}')";
$GLOBALS['DB']->insertQuery($query);
$return["message"]="success";
$return["flag"]="ins";
return $return;
}
}
I would suggest using $.ajax method: it is more advanced.

I am submitting data to a controller function via AJAX, doing what I need to do with the data, and trying to echo it back out to the ajax function.
The issue I am having, is the controller is dumping out the error message and trying to redirect me to the actual function. Obviously the function doesn't have a view, which results in a blank white screen with the response echoed out in the top left corner.
Here is the ajax:
$('#submit_new_split_promo').on('click',function(e){
e.preventDefault();
var id = $(this).data('id');
$('#d_overlay').show();
form = {};
$.each($('#promo-mail-split-add-'+id).serializeArray(),function(k,v){
form[this.name] = this.value;
});
$.ajax({
url:$('#promo-mail-split-add-'+id).attr('action'),
type:"POST",
dataType: "json",
data: form
}).done(function(result){
var res = JSON.parse(result);
if (res == 'Duplicate') {
$('#ms-promo').css('border','3px solid red');
$('#ms-promo').effect('shake');
$('#dynamodal-unique-title').text('That code has been used. Please enter a new Promo Code.');
$('#dynamodal-unique-title').text('That code has been used. Please enter a new Promo Code.').css('color','red').delay(2000).queue(function(next){
$('#dynamodal-unique-title').text('Create Mail Split Promo');
next();
});
return false;
}
$('#mail_split_promo_'+id).modal('toggle');
if (res == false) {
alert('Mail Split Promo did not save. Please try again.');
} else {
$('#add-promo-to-split-'+id).prop('disabled',true);
$('#promo-view-abled-'+id).hide();
$('#promo-view-disabled-'+id).show();
$('#promo-view-disabled-'+id).prop('disabled',false);
}
}).fail(function(){
}).always(function(){
$('#d_overlay').hide();
});
});
Here is the Controllers code
public function addpromo() {
$this->Authorization->skipAuthorization();
$this->request->allowMethod(['get','post']);
$this->autoRender = false;
$data = $this->request->getData();
$mail_split_id = $data['mail_split_id'];
$code = $data['code'];
$result = false;
$doesExist = $this->Promos->findByCode($code)->toArray();
if ($doesExist) {
$result = 'Duplicate';
}
if ($result !== 'Duplicate') {
$MailSplits = $this->getTableLocator()->get('MailSplits');
$mailSplit = $MailSplits->get($mail_split_id);
$entity = $this->Promos->newEmptyEntity();
foreach ($data as $key => $val) {
$entity->$key = $val;
}
$entity->record_count = $mailSplit->record_count;
$result = $this->Promos->save($entity);
if ($this->get_property($result,'id')) {
$promo_id = $result->id;
$MailSplits = $this->loadModel('MailSplits');
$mentity = $MailSplits->get($mail_split_id);
$mentity->promo_id = $promo_id;
$updated = $MailSplits->save($mentity);
if ($this->get_property($updated,'id')) {
$result = true;
} else {
$result = false;
}
$output = [];
exec(EXEC_PATH.'AddPromoToRecordSplits '.$promo_id,$output);
} else {
$result = false;
}
}
ob_flush();
echo json_encode($result);
exit(0);
}
The URL it is trying to redirect me to is: /promos/addpromo when I really just need to stay on the same page, which would be /mail-jobs/view
Response dumped to browser
A couple of things to note:
I have tried adding the function to the controllers policy, and actually authorizing an initialized entity. This has no effect and does not change the issue I am facing.
Something that is more frustrating, I have essentially the same code (ajax structure and controller structure) for other forms on the page, and they work just fine. The only difference seems to be any form that utilizes ajax that is on the page on render, works just fine. The ajax functions I am having an issue with, all seem to be from the forms rendered in Modals, which are different elements. Every form in a modal / element, gives me this issue and that's really the only pattern I have noticed.
Any help is greatly appreciated, I know it's an odd and vague issue.
Thank you!
I am trying to update a php function using ajax.
I Have an array stored in localstorage.
The array contains values of clicked id's.
When I click the <tr>, the array gets updated and sent via ajax from a js file to the php file.
js file
function storeId(id) {
var ids = JSON.parse(localStorage.getItem('reportArray')) || [];
if (ids.indexOf(id) === -1) {
ids.push(id);
localStorage.setItem('reportArray', JSON.stringify(ids));
}else{
//remove id from array
var index = ids.indexOf(id);
if (index > -1) {
ids.splice(index, 1);
}
localStorage.setItem('reportArray', JSON.stringify(ids));
}
return id;
}
//ajax function
$('table tr').click(function(){
var id = $(this).attr('id');
storeId(id);
var selected_lp = localStorage.getItem('reportArray');
console.log(selected_lp);
var query = 'selected_lp=' + selected_lp;
$.ajax({
type: "POST",
url: "../inc/updatelponadvdash.php",
data: { selected_lparr : selected_lp},
cache: false,
success: function(data) {
return true;
}
});
});
updatelponadvdash.php file
<?php
require_once 'inc.php';
$selected_lparr = json_decode($_POST['selected_lparr']);
foreach($selected_lparr as $value){
$dbData = $lploop->adv_lploops($value);
}
?>
Now, in the chrome network tab, when I click the and I dump_var($selected_lparr) the array is updated and I see the values like this:
For some reason I get a 500 error.
As well I dont understand why the var_dump(inside the function below) dosent work. I seems that the function adv_lploops dosent get the variables. but i dont understand why.
This is the fuction I call:
public function adv_lploops($value){
$sql = "SELECT * FROM `lptitels` WHERE titleidNo = '$value'";
$row = $sql->fetch(PDO::FETCH_ASSOC);
var_dump($row);
}
You aren't executing the sql query, try the following:
$sth = $db->prepare($sql);
$sth->execute();
$row = $sth->fetch(PDO::FETCH_ASSOC);
note: you will need the $db object which is a connection to your database
I am using PHP function to display geofences. I want to pass javascript variable to php function in same file without page refresh.
function load(id,type){
if(type===2){
window.location.href="basic.php?idd=" + id; // i want to change code here
<?php
$cir = get_fence_by_type($_GET['idd']);
if($cir) {
foreach($cir as $row){
$fence_id = $row['geo_id'];
}
}
?>
PHP function is:
function get_fence_by_type($id){
$query = "Select * from geofence where geo_id=".$id;
$result = pg_exec($query);
$d = array();
while($myrow = pg_fetch_assoc($result)) {
$d[] = $myrow;
}
return $d; //returns result in array
}
javascript window.location.href passes javascript value to php function but it reloads page also.
If you're using jQuery, you can use $.ajax(). It allows you to send data to your server and do something with the response.
Eg:
$.ajax({
type: 'POST',
data: myvar
success: function(Response) { console.log(Response); }
});
will send myvar to your server (with a bit of tweaking of parameters of course) and log whatever the server sends back to your browser console.
Have a read of what you can do with jQuery.
You can do this using jQuery. Basically you don't refresh the page, you just do an async query to the server and you get the response. In the following example the response is showed in alert box.
Your "index" file:
function load(id,type)
{
$.post("basic.php", { idd: idd }, function(data){
alert(data);
});
}
and basic.php
<?php
function get_fence_by_type($id){
$query = "Select * from geofence where geo_id=".$id;
$result = pg_exec($query);
$d = array();
while($myrow = pg_fetch_assoc($rs)) {
$d[] = $myrow;
}
return $d;
}
$cir = get_fence_by_type($_GET['idd']);
if($cir) {
foreach($cir as $row){
$fence_id = $row['geo_id'];
}
}
?>
I'm new to JSON and AJAX, and as such have searched for solutions and experimented for a few days before resorting to asking here.
I am using AJAX to process a PHP page on submit. It is saving the information fine, but I also need the PHP page to pass back the inserted ID. Here is what I have so far.
In the success:
success: function(){
$('#popup_name img').remove();
$('#popup_name').html('Saved');
$('#fade , .popup_block').delay(2000).fadeOut(function() {
$('#fade, a.close').remove(); //fade them both out
$.getJSON(pathName, function(json){
alert('You are here');
alert("Json ID: " + json.id);
});
});
}
Then, the PHP script calls this method to insert the info and return the inserted id:
public static function doInsertQuery($sparamQuery="",$bparamAutoIncrement=true,$sparamDb="",$sparamTable=""){
//do the insert
$iReturn = 0;
$result = DbUtil::doQuery($sparamQuery);
if(!$result){
$iReturn = 0;
}
elseif(!$bparamAutoIncrement){
$iReturn = DbUtil::getInsertedId();
}
else{
$iReturn = DbUtil::getInsertedId();
}
//log the insert action
//if not a client logged in- cannot log to client db
if(Session::get_CurrentClientId() > 0){
if($sparamTable != LogLogin::table_LOGLOGINS()){
$oLog = new LogDbRequest();
$oLog->set_Type(LogDbRequest::enumTypeInsert);
$oLog->set_Request($sparamQuery);
$oLog->set_RowId($iReturn);
$oLog->set_TableName($sparamTable);
$oLog->set_Before("NULL");
$oLog->set_After(serialize(DbUtil::getRowCurrentValue($sparamDb,$sparamTable)));
$oLog->insertorupdate_LogDbRequest();
}
}
echo json_encode($iReturn);
return $iReturn;
}
I hope this makes sense. I'm at a complete loss here. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated!

It's simple really. The success function accepts an argument corresponding to the response from the server.
Client side:
$.ajax({
'url':'/path/to/script.php',
'dataType':'json',
'success':function(response){ //note the response argument
alert(response.id); //will alert the id
}
});
Server side:
<?php
//...previous stuff here...
$response = array('id' => $id); //where $id is the id to return to the client
header('Content-type: application/json'); //Set the right content-type header
echo json_encode($response); //Output array as JSON
?>
I'm having troubles using ajax and php. What I'm trying to do is call an ajax function that grabs a value from an form's input, and checks if that email exists in a database. Here is my current javascript:
//Checks for Existing Email
function checkExisting_email() {
$.ajax({
type: 'POST',
url: 'checkExist.php',
data: input
});
emailExists = checkExisting_email();
//If it exists
if (emailExists) {
alert("This email already exists!");
}
Unfortunately, I can't get my alert to go off. In my PHP function, it checks whether the input is a username or an email (just for my purposes, and so you know), and then it looks for it in either column. If it finds it, it returns true, and if not, it returns false:
include ('func_lib.php');
connect();
check($_POST['input']);
function check($args)
{
$checkemail = "/^[a-z0-9]+([_\\.-][a-z0-9]+)*#([a-z0-9]+([\.-][a-z0-9]+)*)+\\.[a-z]{2,}$/i";
if (!preg_match($checkemail, $args)) {
//logic for username argument
$sql = "SELECT * FROM `users` WHERE `username`='" . $args . "'";
$res = mysql_query($sql) or die(mysql_error());
if (mysql_num_rows($res) > 0) {
return true;
} else {
return false;
}
} else {
//logic for email argument
$sql = "SELECT * FROM `users` WHERE `email`='" . $args . "'";
$res = mysql_query($sql) or die(mysql_error());
if (mysql_num_rows($res) > 0) {
return true;
} else {
return false;
}
}
}
SO my issue is, how does ajax respond to these returns, and how do I make ajax function accordingly? Mainly, why doesn't this work?
Any help is very much appreciated. Thank you!
You need to add the success option to your Ajax request, which is the JS function which gets executed when the XHR succeeds. Have a look at the jQuery documentation for more info.
Without running the script, I think you'll find that $_POST['input'] is empty; you need to pass your data as something like data: {'input': input} to do that.
Your PHP also needs to return some content to the script; consider changing your call to check() to something like this:
echo (check($_POST) ? 'true' : 'false');
You can now check the content in JavaScript.
Basically ajax is a hand-shaking routine with your server.
Ajax:
$.post('yoursite.com/pagewithfunction.php',
{postkey1:postvalue1, postkey2:postvalue2...},
function (response) {
// response is the data echo'd by your server
}, 'json'
);
pagewithfunction:
yourFunction(){
$var1 = $_POST['postkey1'];....
$result = dosomething($var1..);
echo json_encode($result); // this is passed into your function(response) of ajax call
}
So in $.post you have the url of the php page with the function, { var:val } is the post data, and function(response) is where you handle the data that is echo'd from your server -- the variable, response, is the content that is echo'd.
