I have been trying to figure out which dll and how to use it to connect to sql server.
It was much easier using the old php_mssql.
I am using Xampp on WinXP Pro SP3. I have been unable to figure out how to connect, i have search the manual, and none of the command's work.
I get PDO Error Driver Not Found

I realized that I must use the SQLSERV 2.0 Drivers. But which dll is the correct one? And what syntax must I use to connect and run queries?

One way of doing this is using FreeTDS for Windows
I am assuming you have PHP >5.3
Download this http://download.moodle.org/download.php/dblib/php53/DBLIB_TS.zip
Add this line to your php.ini extension=php_dblib.dll
You will also need to make a file called freetds.conf in the root directory of your PHP installation.
It should look something like this:

client charset = UTF-8
tds version = 8.0

Restart Apache and try running this script:

I am trying to connect my SQL server with PHP using Xampp. I have already uploaded dll files in the ext folder but I am unable to connect it.

Installation of PHP Driver for SQL Server (sqlsrv and/or pdo_sqlsrv PHP extensions) can be done following the next steps:
Based on Microsoft PHP Drivers for SQL Server Support Matrix download appropriate version of this driver. In your case - version 5.2 or 5.3 (32-bit or 64-bit also depends on PHP version).
Download and install an appropriate ODBC driver - see System Requirements for the Microsoft Drivers for PHP for SQL Server
Load PHP Driver for SQL Server as PHP extension.
Restart Apache
Check the configuration with <?php phpinfo();?>. There should be a section with name pdo_sqlsrv (if you use PDO) and/or sqlsrv (without PDO).
my XAMPP version is 7.0.13
1- Download and Install "SQLSRV40.EXE" on this path:
D:\xampp\php\ext
2- Download and Install "msodbcsql.msi"
3- Edit file ":\xampp\php\php.ini" and add this extensions :
extension=php_sqlsrv_7_ts_x86.dll
extension=php_pdo_sqlsrv_7_ts_x86.dll
extension=php7ts.dll
4- restart xampp

For the new comers;
You can setup driver and integrate it as in this video explains so in a nutshell;
You should find drivers for php - sql server integration depending to your environment (versions) at links and download the driver that suits for your environment.
You should move the driver file (.dll for windows case) to php/ext folder.
You need to change php.ini as entering a new extension (for example extension=php_sqlsrv_7_ts.dll) by giving your exact file name you have moved to php/ext.
Restart your local server and you should see this extension in phpinfo(), if you can see it's there, you can connect to your db with your credentials and it's done.

My server is a Windows 2008 server. PHP Version 7.2.7 is installed and running. Sql Server 11 (64 bit) is installed and is working (there is a couple asp.net apps running and already using that database)
I downloaded the PHP Sql Server Drivers from Microsofts website and placed the .dll files in the PHP ext directory.
In my PHP.ini I added:extension=php_pdo_sqlsrv_7_nts_x64
In my .php file I am using to test my db connection I have:

I got it figured out. I had to install the ODBC Driver 17 for SQL Server (msodbcsql_17.2.0.1_x64.msi) on my server. The SQL Server Native Client 11.0 was installed but not the ODBC Driver for SQL Server.
For future reference for anyone else with this or a similar issue...
It can be downloaded at https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=56567 (note: if you have a 32 bit server, you will want to install the msodbcsql_17.2.0.1_x86.msi - If you accidentally try to install the incorrect version, it will let you know during the installation). After the driver is installed, you need to reboot the server. It won't prompt you to restart, but you'll need to.

As commentators said - adding .dll at the end of extension= config line should be good start with your issue.
I can also see that you're trying to load NTS version of extension (NTS stands for non thread safe). Are you sure that you're going to load right version of extension? Please check if you're running PHP as NTS runtime or not - you can check it with phpinfo();.
I have installed FreeTDS 0.91, ODBC, on a Cpanel server running Centos 6.5x64. Everything appears to be running fine and I can connect to the remote MSSQL 2012 server using:
/usr/local/freetds/bin/tsql -S sqlserver -U test -P mypassword
and succesfully execute queries in the database.
I can also connect through:
isql -v sqlserverdatasource test mypasswordhere
But for some reason /usr/local/freetds/bin/tsql -LH server.ip.here
returns no information or errors which doesn't make much sense when it is proven I can connect with the other methods above.
So now when running a test script from a cpanel account on the machine I get:
Unknown host machine name (severity 2)

The first commented line is the old one using sqlserv which I found did not work at all from what i can tell because of the x64 OS. I have also tried with "" around user and pass as well as no marks at all.
php -m does show PDO and pdo-dblib.
Any ideas where I can look next?
Update: This was fixed. I missed in freetds.conf:
[global]
# TDS protocol version
tds version = 8.0
It was originally set to 4.5 instead of 8.
The fix for me was with three steps:
First, I edited /etc/freetds/freetds.conf and changed the tds version like this:
tds version = 8.0
The second step was not entering port number. The port was already 1433, and not specifying it fixed the exact same issue on my case.
Lastly, to connect properly, I had to restart networking as #user1054844 mentioned as this:
/etc/init.d/networking restart
After all these steps, I was able to connect and work with the SQL Server database.
You actually did not need ODBC at all since your connect script is using pdo_dblib not odbc. You can just install FreeTDS than enable pdo_dblib via the compile time flag in rawopts and rebuild via EasyApache. Of course cPanel specifics for this are a bit different.

I am new to PHP and MySQL and have recently installed both PHP v5.3.10 and MySQL v 5.5.21 on a Windows Server 2003 server already running IIS v6.
PHP runs and I have created a database on MySQL from the MySQL 5.5 Command Line Client.
However, when I try to access the database from PHP with the following commands:

No error messages are produced and nothing after the mysql_connect command is returned from
the PHP to the screen.
Also tried line below which also did not return any error messages:

Anybody have any ideas why I can't make a connection and can't get an error message back from mysql_connect command?
I have checked MySQL and I have tried defining the host as %, localhost, the local host IP and the IP:port number (from the port number 3306 listed in the my.ini) to no effect.
I only have one username of 'root' created in mySQL with a single password (which I used when I opened MySQL to create the database)
The 'php.ini' I have placed in both the 'C:\Program Files\PHP' and 'C:\WINDOWS'.
This file contains 'extension_dir = "C:\Program Files\PHP\ext"' to specify the extension directory and includes the following at the end of the file:

have you checked the error_log for the instance?
It sounds like something's failing and your error reporting isn't set high enough to show it. You might try addin this to the top of the script:

I have the following code:

This intrigues me because the very same code worked on my development environment. Now that I want to set it up on my production server, it does not work. Any ideas?

take out the p: like this:

Just adding this since I didn't think it was clear, but the problem is definitely your production version of PHP. Persistent connections for the mysqli extensions weren't added until 5.3 since they caused headaches before.
Some hosts might have different versions of PHP installed... I realized today that I can make HostGator use PHP 5.3! I just had to add to my .htaccess file:

i think you missed the mysqli package in this server. Try :
sudo apt-get install php5-mysqli
if apt-get says it is already installed try to do a ping to localhost, if don't resolve edit /etc/hosts and check the line where localhost points to 127.0.0.1
should be there, if not, your server its horribly configured!
do a

and check if you get some output like this...

You need to specify the actual location of the MySQL server. For development, it is localhost (most likely), just how you have it configured. But for production servers, it is going to be something else. I doubt it should be localhost.
