I need to run the function find_optimal_schedule() every 5 seconds, while each time updating the DIV container schedule. Below is my code snippet. The problem is that alert("Init") is executed, while alert("True") or alert("False") are not executed. FireBug shows that optimize.php is runned every 5 seconds, but I don't understand why the content of DIV container stays blank all the time.
P.S. The code gantt.php works properly, because I tested it in DIV container without the timer and the Gantt chart was displayed correctly. Therefore, I do not provide this code here, because it's not the case.
scheduler.php
<script>
window.setInterval(function(){
find_optimal_schedule();
}, 5000);
</script>
<script>
function find_optimal_schedule() {
$.ajax({
url: 'modules/mod_scheduler/pages.php?page=optimize.php',
dataType: 'json',
success: function(output){
alert("Init");
if(output.msg === 1){
alert("True");
$('#schedule').html(output.html);
} else {
alert("False");
return false;
}
}
});
}
</script>
<div style="width:100%; height:350px; position:relative" id="schedule" class="schedule"></div>
pages.php
<?php
#session_start();
#$pag_mod = $_GET['pag_mod'];
if(!isset($pag_mod))
$pag_mod = 0;
if (isset($_GET['pag_mod'])) {
include 'modules/mod_scheduler/'.$_GET['pag_mod'];
}
else {
include 'modules/mod_scheduler/scheduler.php';
}
?>
optimize.php
<?php
// Dispay Gantt chart
$html_code = '<img src="modules/mod_scheduler/gantt.php">';
echo json_encode(array('msg' => 1, 'html' => $html_code));
?>
I believe you output.msg should be compared with == instead of ===.
if(output.msg == 1){
alert("True");
$('#schedule').html(output.html);
} else {
alert("False");
return false;
}
Via nnnnn, it appears that === is valid for comparision in javascript; therefore, the only thing I can think of is that output.msg is undefined. Since === is not causing the javascript error, output.msg is the only other thing that could be.
You are using a strict equality operator (===) instead of equality.
This means that the comparison is true if also the data types are considered equal, in addition to the values; maybe output.msg comes as a string and is not equated to a number. Try == instead.
Try
console.log(output)
to see if output is a valid object. Firebug should show you the entire object with all its properies.

Thank you very much for your help. I have the following file. The two alerts in the jquery event listener both work, but not the one inside the if (isset) block, as it is posting to itself. Thank you very much! I have abbreviated the code, everything is inside its proper tag.
<?php session_start();
include("config.php");
$myID = $_POST['chatid'];
$_SESSION['chateeID'] = $myID;
if(isset($_POST['inputmessage'])) {
echo '<script type="text/javascript">alert("got in here");</script>';
$sMessage = mysqli_real_escape_string($_POST['inputmessage']);
if ($sMessage != '') {
$sql = "INSERT INTO chatmessages (user_one_id, user_two_id, mymessage, action_user_id)
VALUES ('$user1', '$user2', '$sMessage', '$action_user_id')";
// Perform a query, check for error
if (!mysqli_query($con,$sql)){
echo '<script type="text/javascript">alert("'.mysqli_error($con).'");</script>';
}
}
}
<script>
$('#ChatInputBox').keydown(function (e) {
var keyCode = e.keyCode || e.which;
var txt = $("#ChatInputBox").val();
if (keyCode == 13 && txt!="") {
alert("txt is: "+txt);
$.post("inserttochat.php", { inputmessage: txt }, function(result){
alert("got to callback!");
});
}
});
</script>
I did this exactly the same way on another page but cannot find the discrepancy here.
After setting up your code on my development system I discovered that the short piece of script your PHP code is sending is being sent correctly, and being received correctly but not being executed by the jQuery AJAX code.
If you want that alert to show up in your page you need to place it in an HTML element
<div id="response"></div>
then
$.post("inserttochat.php", { inputmessage: txt }, function(result){
alert("got to callback!");
$("response").html(result);
});
A better way to do this is to echo some sort of status as a JSON object, then unpack that into an alert in Javascript.
echo json_encode((object)['status'=>'ok', 'msg'=>'All good']);
then
$.post("inserttochat.php", { inputmessage: txt }, function(result){
alert("Response: "+result.status+', '+result.msg);
},'json');
Note the json datatype added to the POST request*.
A better approach here is to standardise all your responses as JSON, and then add header("Content-type: application/json"); at the top of your PHP files. This will tell jQuery what the data is, rather than you having to force the issue in the browser.
I want to return true when the number of rows in a table is more than one and show a div with jquery as shown in the jquery code .In addition return false when the number of rows is zero and hide a div as shown in the code below.The php code is executing and returning a correct value but the jquery code is neither showing or hiding a div.I need to show a div when the value returned is true and hide a div when the value returned is false;
**php code** php code for retrieving the number of rows from a table
<?php
require'php/connection.php';//a file for connecting to the database
$user_name=getUserField('user_name');//function for getting the name of the user in session
$query="select `order_id` from `inbox` where `buyer_name`='$user_name'";
$query_run=mysql_query($query);
$num_rows=mysql_num_rows($query_run);
if($num_rows >= 1) {
return true;
} else if($num_rows == 0) {
return false;
}
?>
jquery code Jquery code for either hiding or showing a div
$(document).ready(function() {
$.post('php/ManNotify.php',{},function(data){
if(true) {
$('#notify').show();
} else if(false) {
$('#notify').hide();
}
});
});
Do you realize your if statement reads,
if(true) ..
else if(false) ...
The hide will never execute. Is this your problem?
When using AJAX calls with PHP, you should echo the value rather than return it. Modify your PHP code like so:
<?php
require'php/connection.php';//a file for connecting to the database
$user_name=getUserField('user_name');//function for getting the name of the user in session
$query="select `order_id` from `inbox` where `buyer_name`='$user_name'";
$query_run=mysql_query($query);
$num_rows=mysql_num_rows($query_run);
if($num_rows >= 1){
echo json_encode(array("status" => true));
} else if($num_rows == 0) {
echo json_encode(array("status" => false));
}
exit;
?>
You'll also need to modify your JavaScript accordingly. Right now, if(true) will always execute on the return. Modify it like so:
// Shorthand for $(document).ready
$(function(){
$.post('php/ManNotify.php',{}, function(data) {
// JavaScript truthy/falsy will take care of the statement
if(data.status) {
$('#notify').show();
} else {
$('#notify').hide();
}
});
});
EDIT:
As #mplungjan points out in the comments below, the JavaScript could be simplified in the callback to be the following: $('#notify').toggle(data.status);. The resulting JavaScript would be:
// Shorthand for $(document).ready
$(function(){
$.post('php/ManNotify.php',{}, function(data) {
$('#notify').toggle(data.status);
});
});
Thanks to #mplungjan for the suggestion.
$(document).ready(function(){
$.post('php/ManNotify.php',{},function(data){
if(data == 'true'){
$('#notify').show();
}else if(data == 'false')
{
$('#notify').hide();
}
});
});
There are two problems with your code:
The server-side code. Returning boolean TRUE or FALSE this way will only render the page blank.
The jQuery code logic is wrong: if(true){ case will always be executed (because the value is, well, always true).
A very simple fix would be (untested):
if($num_rows >= 1){
echo 'true';
} else {
echo 'false';
}
Then, in the JS:
$.post('php/ManNotify.php', function(data){
if(data === 'true'){
$('#notify').show();
} else {
$('#notify').hide();
}
});
Note that this is not optimized.
$(document).ready(function(){
$.post('php/ManNotify.php',{},function(data){
if(data == "true"){
$('#notify').show();
}else if(data == "false")
{
$('#notify').hide();
}
});
});
I need to be able to replace a php file with another php file based on screen resolution. This is what I have so far:
<script type="text/javascript">
function adjustStyle(width) {
width = parseInt(width);
if (width = 1920) {
$('book.php').replaceWith('book2.php');
}
}
$(function() {
adjustStyle($(this).width());
$(window).resize(function() {
adjustStyle($(this).width());
});
});
</script>
which obviously isn't working-- any ideas? Thank you in advance for any help received.
UPDATE
Is this at all close (to replace the book.php line)?
{ $("a[href*='book.php']").replaceWith('href', 'book2.php'); };
Second Update to reflect input gathered here
function adjustStyle(width) {
width = parseInt(width);
if (width == 1920) {
$('#bookinfo').replaceWith(['book2.php']);
$.ajax({
url: "book2.php",
}).success(function ( data ) {
$('#bookinfo').replaceWith(data);
});
$(function() {
adjustStyle($(this).width());
$(window).resize(function() {
adjustStyle($(this).width());
});
});
}
}
I have not seen the use of replaceWith in the context you put it in. Interpreting that you want to exchange the content, you may want to do so my using the load() function of jQuery.
if(width == 1920){
$("#myDiv").load("book1.php");
} else {
$("#myDiv").load("book2.php");
}
Clicking on the button replaces the content of the div to book2.php.
The first problem is I don't think that you are using the correct selectors. If you have the following container:
<div id="bookContainer">Contents of book1.php</div>
The code to replace the contents of that container should be
$('#bookContainer').replaceWith([contents of book2.php]);
In order to get [contents of book2.php] you will need to pull it in by ajax using the following code I have also included the line above so that the data from book2.php will be placed into the container:
$.ajax({
url: "http://yoururl.com/book2.php",
}).success(function ( data ) {
$('#bookContainer').replaceWith(data);
});.
I haven't tested this so there might be an issue but this is the concept you need to accomplish this.
First off... using a conditional with a single = (equal sign) will cause the condition to always be true while setting the value of variable your checking to the value your checking against.
Your condition should look like the following...
if (width == 1920) { // do something }
Second, please refer to the jQuery documentation for how to replace the entire tag with a jquery object using replaceWith()... http://api.jquery.com/replaceWith/
I would use a shorthand POST with http://api.jquery.com/jQuery.post/ since you don't have the object loaded yet...
In short, my code would look like the following using $.post instead of $.ajax assuming I had a tag with the id of "book" that originally has the contents of book.php and I wanted to replace it with the contents of book2.php...
HTML
<div id="book">*Contents of book.php*</div>
jQuery
function onResize(width) {
if (parseInt(width) >= 1920) {
$.post('book2.php',function(html){
$('#book').html(html).width(width);
});
}
else {
$.post('book.php',function(html){
$('#book').html(html).width(width);
});
}
}
Hope this helps.
Basically all i wanna do is something like this.
var myVar = $.load("phpscript.php","var=one");
phpscript.php
<?
$a = $_GET['var'];
if($a == "one") { return 1 };
else return false;
?>
Right now i am doing this the most idiotic way as i cannot find out how to do this the proper way. what i am doing currently is making my phpscript return a hidden field with the value
return "<input type='hidden' value='1' id='takeValueFromThisID>";
into a div from the calling page and finally use the above id to retrieve the value. Even though this works its very idiotic. Can some one pls guide me in the right way to do it.
$.get("phpscript.php", { 'var': 'one' }, function(resp) {
alert(resp); // '1'
});
and a test PHP script:
<?php
echo '1';
?>
PHP Code
<?
$a = $_GET['var'];
if($a == 'one') {
echo 1
} else {
echo 0; // or '' may be?
}
?>
AJAX
var myVar;
$.get("phpscript.php", {"var": "one"}, function (resp) {
myVar = resp;
});
The problem here is that myVar will be "1" or whatever after the AJAX request is completed. This may take a couple of milliseconds (or seconds). If you plan to use myVar in your script you must wait until it becomes something other than undefined.
How can we call Php functions with in the JavaScript If-else condition.
For Example,
if (top == self) {
// not in any kind of frame
} else {
// in a frame
// calling php function
}
</script>
Here, PHP exit() function calling for both if and else conditions. I need to call that function for only in else part.
Please advise me.
Thanks.

Technically not possible. However you can make an AJAX call to a PHP page and get the values returned by it.
PHP (test.php):
<?php
$x = 10;
$y = 20;
$val = $y / $x;
echo $val;
?>
Javascript (jQuery):
$(document).ready(function() {
$.ajax({url: 'test.php',
type: 'POST',
success: function(data){
//takes the value returned by test.php and
//puts it directly into the element with
//id = someElement
$('#someElement').html(data);
}
});
As far as calling exit(); and making the page that holds the JavaScript stop processing, you just can't unless you control the logic on that same page in PHP and call exit(); from there.
Do not try to mix javascript with php.
If you want to stop the page from loading you could also redirect the page to an other (php) page where you simply put exit();
If this javascript is in a function just use : return; or return false;
