I am creating a variable from an XML file ($image) and I need to create a new variable that combines $image with '.jpg'. I've tried:
$image = $record->getElementsByTagName( "name_id" );
echo $image.".jpg";
$image = $image->item(0)->nodeValue;
But this doesn't add .jpg to the variable in the script. The reason I need to do this is the XML file doesn't have the jpg file extension only the image reference as a sequence of numbers. Any ideas?
If $image is a string, just concoct the strings together with ..
You can see this as an example:
<?php
$img = hello;
$imgfinal = $img . ".jpg";
echo $img;
?>
As expected the output is hello.jpg. Hope this helped.
Are you looking for:
$image = $record->getElementsByTagName( "name_id" );
$image = $image->item(0)->nodeValue;
$image = $image . ".jpg";
Now $image should contain the filename with the file extension

I have a script that sends an image it is saved as a .gif as declared in the movie.php file that will be listed below.
However, as I understand it, it creates an image from the gif making it useless for display because it simply becomes a static image .gif.
Anyway
I wanted to know how I can upload this file and ignore this function (imagecreatefromgif) I tried to change it in several ways and when I remove it I get an error, someone could help me work around this so that the gif will be sent and not be converted to a gif file static. basically I wanted that the way I sent the gif it would only be renamed with function imageGenerateName () but that it would keep all its size and property.
Every help is welcome.
Thanks in advance
.
Movie.php code:
<?php
class Movie {
public function imageGenerateName() {
return bin2hex(random_bytes(60)) . ".gif";
}
}
movie-process.php code
<?php
// Upload img
if(isset($_FILES["image"]) && !empty($_FILES["image"]["tmp_name"])) {
$image = $_FILES["image"];
$imageTypes = ["image/gif"];
$jpgArray = ["image/gif"];
// Check img type
if(in_array($image["type"], $imageTypes)) {
// Check img type
if(in_array($image["type"], $jpgArray)) {
$imageFile = imagecreatefromgif($image["tmp_name"]);
} else {
$imageFile = imagecreatefromgif($image["tmp_name"]);
}
// image name
$imageName = $movie->imageGenerateName();
imagegif($imageFile, "./img/movies/" . $imageName, 100);
$movie->image = $imageName;
}
}
// Upload img
if(isset($_FILES["image"]) && !empty($_FILES["image"]["tmp_name"])) {
$image = $_FILES["image"];
$imageTypes = ["image/gif"];
$jpgArray = ["image/gif"];
// Check img type
if(in_array($image["type"], $imageTypes)) {
// check type is gif
if(in_array($image["type"], $jpgArray)) {
$imageFile = imagecreatefromgif($image["tmp_name"]);
}
// generete img name
$movie = new Movie();
$imageName = $movie->imageGenerateName();
imagegif($imageFile, "./img/movies/" . $imageName, 100);
$movieData->image = $imageName;
}
}
Unfortunately, the imagecreatefromgif function will only read the first image of the gif as the PHP manual says.
I tried before to solve this, but there is no turnaround other than uploading the image without touching it. PHP uses the GD library and this library doesn't have the proper functionality to deal with gif images other than just saving the image with the *.gif extension.
So, this is my suggested solution:
// generete img name
$movie = new Movie();
$imageName = $movie->imageGenerateName();
move_uploaded_file($_FILES["image"]["tmp_name"],"./img/movies/" . $imageName);
$movieData->image = $imageName;
I think since you say you just want to save it as it is, with the same size and its all properties, you can use below code
<?php
$allowed = array('gif');
$filename = $_FILES["image"]['name'];
$ext = pathinfo($filename, PATHINFO_EXTENSION);
if (in_array($ext, $allowed)) {
// generete img name
$movie = new Movie();
$imageName = $movie->imageGenerateName();
$uploadResult = move_uploaded_file($_FILES['image']['tmp_name'], dirname( dirname( __FILE__ ) ).'/img/movies/'. $imageName );
if($uploadResult === true ){
$movie->image = $imageName;
}else{
throw new \Exception('Unable to copy file to the given path');
}
}
Or if you have access to the Imagick lib php extension refer to below link on how to install this php-extension
https://www.php.net/manual/en/imagick.setup.php
then using the functions in that library you can do
<?php
$allowed = array('gif');
$filename = $_FILES["image"]['name'];
$ext = pathinfo($filename, PATHINFO_EXTENSION);
if (in_array($ext, $allowed)) {
$image = new Imagick();
$image->readImage($_FILES["image"]["tmp_name"]);
$image = $image->coalesceImages();
foreach ($image as $frame) {
$frame->cropImage($crop_w, $crop_h, $crop_x, $crop_y);
$frame->thumbnailImage($size_w, $size_h);
$frame->setImagePage($size_w, $size_h, 0, 0);
}
$image = $image->deconstructImages();
$image->writeImages(dirname( dirname( __FILE__ ) ).'/img/movies/'. $imageName, true);
}
?>
I wrote a tiny script to create previews of all JPG images in a directory and save them into another directory. But the file extension .jpg is always missing. I really do not understand why.
foreach( glob(dirname(__FILE__)."/../../img/plakate/full/*.jpg") as $img ){
// key
$key = basename($img,'.jpg').PHP_EOL;
// save preview
$thumb = new Imagick($img);
$thumb->setImageCompression(Imagick::COMPRESSION_JPEG);
$thumb->setImageCompressionQuality(10);
$thumb->resizeImage(50,0,Imagick::FILTER_LANCZOS,1);
$thumb->writeImage("lib/img/plakate/preview/{$key}.jpg");
$thumb->destroy();
}
I also tried this which results in the same:
foreach( glob(dirname(__FILE__)."/../../img/plakate/full/*.jpg") as $img ){
// key
$key = basename($img,'.jpg').PHP_EOL;
// save preview
$thumb = new Imagick($img);
$thumb->setImageCompression(Imagick::COMPRESSION_JPEG);
$thumb->setImageCompressionQuality(10);
$thumb->resizeImage(50,0,Imagick::FILTER_LANCZOS,1);
$thumb->setImageFormat('jpeg');
file_put_contents ("lib/img/plakate/preview/{$key}.jpg", $thumb);
$thumb->destroy();
}
As I see everything works fine – only the file extension is missing. :(
Your code $key = basename($img,'.jpg').PHP_EOL; has a PHP_EOL at the end, saying that the line ends here, "discarding" anything after it when assembling your filename.
Change $key = basename($img,'.jpg').PHP_EOL; to $key = basename($img,'.jpg'); to have your file extension appended.
you can simply use it instead of basename,
$explodedPath = explode(DIRECTORY_SEPARATOR, $img);
$fileName = $explodedPath[count($explodedPath) - 1];
or pathinfo
$pathParts = pathinfo($img);
$fileName = "{$pathParts['filename]}{$pathParts['extension']}"
When i save image with my form i change the file name. Everything works nice except file extension. When i change file name the extension is missing and file is saved without it. Please help me to solve my problem i want to store also image extension.
This is my code where i update image name.
$image = $request->file('image');
if ($image) {
$imgPath = 'public/post-image/';
$imgName = uniqid('img_');
$store = $request->file('image')->storeAs(
$imgPath, $imgName
);
$post->image = $imgName;
}
Try this:
$image = $request->file('image');
if ($image) {
$imgPath = 'public/post-image/';
$imgName = uniqid('img_') . '.' . $image->extension();
$store = $image->storeAs($imgPath, $imgName);
$post->image = $imgName;
}
I have a certain code for image upload .I found this on the internet and there was no explanation of the code either.What i can understand from the code is that php upload a certain file makes it a temporary file and then moves the temporary file to the original location
Code Looks something like this
$filename = $_FILES["img"]["tmp_name"];
list($width, $height) = getimagesize( $filename );
move_uploaded_file($filename, $imagePath . $_FILES["img"]["name"]);
What happens now is that when i try to provide an unique name to the image when it is being moved using the move_uploaded_file then a file does come up inside the folder but it says an invalid file and with the extension type of file.
My code for trying to achieve the same but with an unique name/id for the uploaded image.
$uniquesavename=time().uniqid(rand());
$filename = $_FILES["img"]["tmp_name"];
list($width, $height) = getimagesize( $filename );
move_uploaded_file($filename, $imagePath . $uniquesavename);
How to achieve the same as before and could you please explain me the previous code as well?
Sample code:
// Get file path from post data by using $_FILES
$filename = $_FILES["img"]["tmp_name"];
// Make sure that it's a valid image which can get width and height
list($width, $height) = getimagesize( $filename );
// Call php function move_uploaded_file to move uploaded file
move_uploaded_file($filename, $imagePath . $_FILES["img"]["name"]);
Please try this one:
// Make sure this imagePath is end with slash
$imagePath = '/root/path/to/image/folder/';
$uniquesavename=time().uniqid(rand());
$destFile = $imagePath . $uniquesavename . '.jpg';
$filename = $_FILES["img"]["tmp_name"];
list($width, $height) = getimagesize( $filename );
move_uploaded_file($filename, $destFile);
Edit 1:
To get image type in two ways:
Get the file type from upload file name.
Use php function as below
CODE
// Get details of image
list($width, $height, $typeCode) = getimagesize($filename);
$imageType = ($typeCode == 1 ? "gif" : ($typeCode == 2 ? "jpeg" : ($typeCode == 3 ? "png" : FALSE)));
$name = $_FILES['file']['name'];
$tmp_name = $_FILES['file']['tmp_name'];
$location = "uploads/";
$new_name = $location.time()."-".rand(1000, 9999)."-".$name;
if (move_uploaded_file($tmp_name, $new_name)){
echo "uploaded";
}
else{
sleep(rand(1,5));
$new_name = $location.time()."-".rand(1000, 9999)."-".$name;
if (move_uploaded_file($tmp_name, $new_name)){
echo "uploaded";
}
else{
echo"failed, better luck next time";
}
}
here, location is folder inside directory, i mainly create folder "uploads"
time() adds timestamp , which is always unique, until two person upload at same time, which is rare.
moreover, adding 4 digit random number to it , making combination rarest
after that adding actual file name , to making combination unique.
why i use it :
u can extract timestamp later if u need to know when image was uploaded.
u can extract actual filename too.
Lets, say our so unique combination somehow fails,
then, php instance will wait for 1 to 5 second whatever random number is generated. and rename with latest timestamp and regenerated random number.
It's the best u can think of without being resource hog.
you can use
$strtotime = strtotime("now");
$filename = $strtotime.'_'.$_FILES['file']['name'];
I want to change image file as jpeg format as follows:
$img_real_path = realpath(".") . "/" .$dest;
echo $img_real_path;
$image = new Imagick();
$image->readImage($img_real_path);
$image->setImageFormat("jpeg");
But image format is same as it was. What am I doing wrong?
You're not using $image->imageWriteFile()
Add this to your code:
$image->imageWriteFile (fopen ($image_real_path, "wb"));
It should look like this:
$img_real_path = realpath(".") . "/" .$dest;
echo $img_real_path;
$image = new Imagick();
$image->readImage($img_real_path);
$image->setImageFormat("jpeg");
$image->imageWriteFile (fopen ($image_real_path, "wb"));
