What the heck is up with this code?
$(".submit").click(function(){
alert("clicked");
var name = $(".name").val();
var email = $(".email").val();
var comment = $(".comment").val();
var articleId = $(".articleId").val();
var dataString = 'name='+ name + '&email=' + email + '&comment=' + comment+ '&articleId=' + articleId;
if(name=='' || comment==''){
alert('Please Give Valid Details');
}
else{
alert('so far so good');
$.ajax({
type: "POST",
url: "../_includes/process.php",
data: dataString,
cache: false,
success: function(){
alert("succes");
$(".updating").fadeIn(400);
}
});
}
});
Everything works until $.ajax finds process.php and instead of reading and executing the code it actually goes to that page in the browser. I tried using return false after the ajax call but then the code in process.php never happens.
here is process.php
<?php
// code to establish connection first
if($_POST){
$name=$_POST['name'];
$name=mysql_real_escape_string($name);
$email=$_POST['email'];
$email=mysql_real_escape_string($email);
$comment=$_POST['comment'];
$comment=mysql_real_escape_string($comment);
$articleId=$_POST['articleId'];
$articleId=mysql_real_escape_string($articleId);
if(!empty($email)){
$lowercase = strtolower($email);
}
$result = mysql_query("INSERT INTO comments(name,email,comment,articleId) VALUES ('$name','$email','$comment','$articleId')");
if($result){
echo "success";
} else {
echo "there were erros" . mysql_error();
}
exit;
?>
Any help would be appreciated.
You have to prevent the default action of your submit button:
$(".submit").click(function(e) {
e.preventDefault();
alert("clicked");
...
});
You need to echo something out from process.php if you want to know it worked ok.
e.g
echo 'success';
exit; // just incase
then in your ajax request
success: function(response){
if (response == 'success') {
alert("success");
$(".updating").fadeIn(400);
}
else {
alert('error');
}
}
even if you aren't echoing out, process.php should still work.
try turning on error reporting if it still isn't working:
error_reporting(E_ALL);
ini_set('display_errors', 'On');

I'm making a Ajax script which validates results with PHP file before processing. Below is my Ajax script but I don't understand how to retrieve this DATA to validate.php and how to get results back from my PHP file.
<script>
function shake(){
if($("#pw").val()=="")
{
$("#sc1810").effect("shake");
}
else{
var image = document.getElementById('go');
image.src="images/loader.gif";
var resultado="";
$.ajax({
url: "validate.php",
type: "POST",
data: "userID=" + $("#userID").val()+"&pw=" + $("#pw").val(),
success: function(data){
resultado=data;
image.src="images/png17.png";
if(resultado==0)
{
$("#sc1810").effect("shake");
$("#pw").val("");
$("#pwID").text("Password");
$("#pw").focus();
}
else{
image.src="images/png17.png";
window.location.href = resultado;
}
}
});
}
}
</script>
How can I process this Ajax script with validate.php ?
Can it be like:
<?php
// Get values from AJAX
$userid = $_GET['userID'];
$pass = $_GET['pw'];
?>
What results is this Ajax script expecting? I see resultado==0
So my question is how can I send resultado=1 with PHP to this script?
Should it be:
<?php
// Send result to AJAX
$resultado = 1;
?>
Thank you for helping.
I think this is what you're asking for.
The php script at the bottom is missing the closing tag for a reason.
In the success function, after you parse the result into a json object, you can reference the members with a '.' E.G result.varName
<script>
function shake()
{
if($("#pw").val()=="")
{
$("#sc1810").effect("shake");
}
else
{
var image = document.getElementById('go');
image.src="images/loader.gif";
var resultado="";
$.ajax({
url: "validate.php",
type: "POST",
data: {userID: $("#userID").val(), pw: $("#pw").val()},
success: function(data){
try
{
var result = $.parseJSON(data);
// result is now a JSON object
}
catch (e)
{
alert("JSON Parsing Failed on" + data );
return 0;
}
console.log(result);
if(result.isValid === 1){
// do something
}
alert(result.Message);
resultado=data;
image.src="images/png17.png";
if(resultado==0)
{
$("#sc1810").effect("shake");
$("#pw").val("");
$("#pwID").text("Password");
$("#pw").focus();
}
else
{
image.src="images/png17.png";
window.location.href = resultado;
}
}
});
}
}
</script>
<?php
if( !isset($_SERVER['REQUEST_METHOD']) || $_SERVER['REQUEST_METHOD'] != 'POST')
{
exit;
}
if( !isset($_POST['userID']) || !isset($_POST['pw']) )
{
// need more validation than this
exit;
}
$output = array();
$output['isValid'] = '1';
$output['Message'] = 'Data transfered';
$output['moreData'] = false;
echo json_encode($output);
Change data: "userID=" + $("#userID").val()+"&pw=" + $("#pw").val(), to:
data: {userID: $("#userID").val(), pw: $("#pw").val()}
Also, I'd recommend setting userID and pw vars before passing it in as it is easier to read and easier to maintain.
I have an error where I can't proceed my login_process.php using ajax. I have stored all my files as a one folder. If I run my HTML log in page, the error is appeared. Below is my code. It is just a simple code. Before this, I have applied the similar code as below (except for login_process.php because I've put a few functions) as my homework. But when I've try to make it again, as i said, the browser, either in Chrome or Firefox, displays an error as I wrote in ajax below.
index.html(ajax part)
$(document).ready(function(){
$("#subBTN").click(function(){
var username = $("#username").val();
var password = $("#password").val();
var status = $("#statusAlert");
if(username === "" && password === ""){
status.html("<span>Username and password are both required!</span>");
}
else if(username === ""){
status.html("<span>What is your username?</span>");
}
else if(password === ""){
status.html("<span>What is your password?</span>");
}
else{
$.ajax({
url:'login_process.php',
type: 'post',
data: {"?admin_name=": username, "&admin_pass=": password},
dataType: 'html',
success: function(data){
//alert(data);
if(data.success){
status.html("<span>"+ data +"</span>");
}
else{
status.html("<span>error</span>");
return false;
}
}
});
}
});
});
login_process.php
<?php
session_start();
if($_POST):
$username = $_POST["username"];
$password = $_POST["password"];
if($username):
echo "Hi " . $username;
endif;
endif;
?>
You got a error in jQuery ajax call in passing data
You use :
data: {'admin_name':username, 'admin_pass': password},
instead of
data: {"?admin_name=": username, "&admin_pass=": password},
Or access in php code data to use:
$_POST['admin_name'] AND S_POST['admin_pass']
You should change this line of code
if(data.success){
status.html("<span>"+ data +"</span>");
}
else{
status.html("<span>error</span>");
return false;
}
To
if(data.Length > 0){
status.html("<span>"+ data +"</span>");
}
else{
status.html("<span>error</span>");
return false;
}
I have the following AJAX script, but for some reason the var ok it's not returning true or false so the form can continue:
function ajax_call(email,title,url){
var email = document.getElementById("email").value;
var title = document.getElementById("title").value;
var url = document.getElementById("url").value;
var parametros = {"emaail":email, "tiitle":title, "uurl":url};
var ok = true;
$.ajax({
data: parametros,
url: 'validate.php',
type: 'post',
error: function () {
alert("An error has occurred! Try Again!");
},
success: function (response) {
if(response == 'bien') { ok = true; } else { $("#ajax_cal").html(response); ok = false; }
}
});
return ok;
}
HTML:
<form onsubmit="return ajax_call();">
...
</form>
PHP:
<?php
//////....
if(!empty($errors)) {
foreach($errors as $error) {
echo '<li>'.$error.'</li>';
}
} else { echo 'bien'; }
?>
Everything works good, except for the return value.
Thanks in advance.
Prevent the submit completely, send the ajax request, then if it's good, submit the form.
HTML:
<form id="myform">
...
</form>
JavaScript:
$("#myform").submit(function(e){
// prevent submit
e.preventDefault();
var email = document.getElementById("email").value;
var title = document.getElementById("title").value;
var url = document.getElementById("url").value;
var parametros = {"emaail":email, "tiitle":title, "uurl":url};
$.ajax({
data: parametros,
url: 'validate.php',
type: 'post',
context: this,
error: function () {
alert("An error has occurred! Try Again!");
},
success: function (response) {
if($.trim(response) == 'bien') {
this.submit(); // submit, bypassing jquery bound event
}
else {
$("#ajax_call").html(response);
}
}
});
});
You are returning ok at the end of your function. This is returned before your ajax request is sent and completed.
You cannot rely on the return value of your function, you should do something inside your "success" part. It basically depends on what you want to do with your return value
I'm a complete newbie to jquery but in some of the scripts I've been working on I've had to prefix the 'response' you have.
For instance...
if(response.tiitle == 'bien') { ok = true; } else { $("#ajax_cal").html(response); ok = false; }
Also be aware you have double letters in your "parametros" but I'm sure that was intentional (i.e. tiitle and not title etc).
In a JS file I am performing this function:
$(function() {
$(".button").click(function() {
//get the button's ID (which is equal to its row's report_id)
var emergency = this.id;
var button = this.attributes['name'].value;
var dataString = 'reportid=' + emergency;
alert(dataString);
if (button == "clockin") {
$.ajax({
type: "POST",
url: "/employeetimeclock.php",
data: dataString,
success: function() {
window.location = "/employeetimeclock.php";
}
});
} else if (button == "closereport") {
var r = confirm("Are you sure you want to close this report?\nThis action CANNOT be undone!");
if (r == true) {
$.ajax({
type: "POST",
url: "/closeemergencyreport.php",
data: dataString,
success: function() {
alert("Report Successfully Closed!");
window.location = "/closeemergencyreport.php";
},
error: function() {
alert("An error has occured, the report was not closed");
}
});
} else {
alert("Report was not closed.");
}
}
});
});
For the else if (to closeemergencyreport.php) the code in that php script is as follows:
<?php
require_once("models/config.php");
require_once("models/header.php");
require_once("models/dbconnect.php");
$reportid = $_POST['reportid'];
var_dump($_POST);
$sql = "UPDATE emergency_report SET report_closed = '1' WHERE report_id IN ( $reportid )";
//execute and test if succesful
$result = mysql_query($sql) or die(mysql_error());
if($result){
} else{
}
?>
I've done this same exact thing on 3 other pages and it works flawlessly however this is giving me trouble where on that php script the VAR_DUMP is saying it's returning an empty array. I've been reading and rereading the code for about an hour and a half now so I think i'm burnt out and need to have an outside view. Ive been all over the site and no one has had a solution that worked for me.
I know it's posting because fire bug is showing this on the form's page that the javascript is run on:
http://i.imgur.com/hItdVU1.png (sorry cant post images yet)
i am having some problems with getting my form to submit. It doesnt seem like anything is being send, is their anything wrong with this code as javascripting isn't my strong point...
$("#send").click(function() {
var complete = true;
$('input#name, input#email, input#subject, textarea#message').each(function() {
if ($(this).val()) {
$(this).css("background","#ffffff").css("color","#5c5c5c");
} else {
$(this).css("background","#d02624").css("color","#ffffff");
complete = false;
}
});
if (complete == true){
var name = $("input#name").val();
var email = $("input#email").val();
var subject = $("input#subject").val();
var message = $("textarea#message").val();
var data = '{"name":"'+name+'","sender":"'+email+'","subject":"'+subject+'","message":"'+message+'"}';
$.ajax({
type:"POST",
url:"contact.php",
data:$.base64.encode(data),
success:function(data){
data = $.parseJSON(data);
if (data.status == "success") {
$.fancybox.close();
}
}
});
}
});
There is also a live version of this in action which can be viewed over at: http://idify.co.uk, thanks :)
You can do it better.
$('form')
.submit(function(event) {
var form = $(this);
$.ajax({
url: '[url here]',
type: 'post',
data: $.base64.encode(form.serialize()), // $.serialize() - it gets all data from your form
dataType: 'json', // function in success callback knows how to parse returned data
success: function(data) {
if (data['status'] == true) {
// your code here
// e.g.
$.fancybox.close();
}
}
});
event.preventDefault();
});
Enjoy! :)
I got an error after submitting:
data is null http://idify.co.uk/javascripts/landing.js Line 25
It looks like the data was sent successfully and there was a response:
{"status":"error","responce":"No token parameter was specified."}
This should help you ensure you've got data in your success callback:
success:function(response) {
if (response) {
var data = $.parseJSON(response);
if (data && data.status == "success") {
$.fancybox.close();
}
} else {
// handle errors
}
}
Haha, thanks guys. I was silly enough not to include the variable that needs to be passed via the php file, got it sorted and it works like a dream, i ended up using the first solution as the form submission one wasnt working for me.
