PHP page to get results of MySQL query - php

I haven't a clue on how to write PHP but one of the sites I oversee uses it. I'd like to have a pie chart that automatically updates based on current data. I know how to write the HTML that will draw the chart but don't know how to get my MySQL statement to interact with the data. Here's the piece of code I want to run:
SELECT
pc.shortname Name,
Count(qa.factor) Count
FROM
stable_host pc,
stable_area pq,
stable_area_front qa
WHERE
pc.id = pq.host
AND pq.id = qa.area
AND ((pq.name='Signal1') OR (pq.name='Signal5'))
GROUP BY pc.shortname
ORDER BY pc.shortname
When I run this script, it gives me the following output:
Category1 62
Category2 53
Category3 35
Category4 38
My question is this: How do I get the output so it just shows the numbers, comma delimited? (Example: "62,53,35,38")

SELECT GROUP_CONCAT(count(qa.factor) SEPARATOR ',') count
I believe this is what you're asking.

You could use:
<?php
$dsn = '';
$username = '';
$password = '';
$query = "Paste your query here";
try {
$pdo = new PDO($dsn, $username, $password);
$pdo->prepare($query);
} catch(PDOException $e) {
die("Could not connect to the database\n");
}
$results = $pdo->fetchAll();
if(count($results) > 0) {
$array = array();
foreach($queryResult as $row) {
$array[] = $row['Count'];
}
$commaDelimitedString = implode(',',$array);
} // No need for end PHP tag, they cause problems.
This:
- connects to database (or tries to)
- runs your query
- makes an empty array
- loops over your results
- takes the "Count" column and adds it to the end of the array
- compresses the array into a comma-delimited string.
Look here (http://wezfurlong.org/blog/2004/may/first-steps-with-pdo/ and http://www.electrictoolbox.com/php-pdo-bound-placeholders/) for some guidance on the usage of PDO and what you'll need to connect to the database (don't post those details, obviously)
It may look daunting, but just go one step at a time. If you have more questions just ask.

MySQL Select query recordset in an 2d PHP array

I want to fetch the record set in an PHP array. My select query is as below…......
SELECT sub_activity_alias
, a_s_month
, a_s_target
, a_s_target_no
, a_s_budjet
, achieved
, achieved_no
, expense
, a_s_target_type
FROM activity_planning
WHERE prj_id = 37
AND holder_id = 5
AND impl_1id = 0
AND impl_2id = 0
AND activity_id = 14
AND sub_activity_id = 109
AND acct_year = '2015-2016'
ORDER
BY FIELD(a_s_month,'Apr','May','Jun','Jul','Aug','Sep','Oct','Nov','Dec','Jan','Feb','Mar') ASC
When I run the query I am getting many rows with 9 column. I want an PHP 2d array where data will be stored. I want this php array data in my programming.
First read this article carefully. http://www.phpro.org/tutorials/Introduction-to-PHP-PDO.html
Especially "Connect to MySQL" part. After that you will really understand the concept of MySQL and PHP relation.
Then start learning PHP basics. If you don't know what an array or control statements are, you don't know enough.
Today I want to share you important topics that is mostly required while coding in PHP and MySQL. One important thing that we should keep in mind so that less hitting the database, it would increase the better performance of our web software applications. Unwanted access of database is harmful and resource misuse. If a record set of a select query is being used many time then we should keep in buffer it should be an array.
Please see the record set below. I want this in an php array so that I can use it as many time as I want without touching the database.
The select query is as below along with the code required.
<?php
/**** CONNECT TO THE DATABASE *****/
$host = "localhost"; $user= "root"; $pwd = "root1";
$dblink = mysql_connect($host,$user,$pwd);
if (!$dblink)
{
header("Location: db_error.php");
}
$database = "cinindia_ciiss";
mysql_select_db($database, $dblink) or die("\n Could not select database, Please try after some time..");
/**** WRITE YOUR SQL QUERY *******/
$select = "SELECT sub_activity_alias,
a_s_month,
a_s_target,
a_s_target_no,
a_s_budjet,
achieved,
achieved_no,
expense,
a_s_target_type
FROM activity_planning
WHERE prj_id = 37
AND holder_id = 5
AND impl_1id = 0
AND impl_2id = 0
AND activity_id = 14
AND sub_activity_id = 109
AND acct_year = '2015-2016'
ORDER BY FIELD(a_s_month,'Apr','May','Jun','Jul','Aug','Sep','Oct','Nov','Dec','Jan','Feb','Mar') ASC";
$queryResult= mysql_query($select);
/****** DECLARE YOUR ARRAY WHERE YOU WILL KEEP YOUR RECORD SETS *******/
$data_array=array();
/******* STORE ALL THE RECORD SETS IN THAT ARRAY ********/
while ($row = mysql_fetch_array($queryResult, MYSQL_ASSOC)) {
array_push($data_array,$row);
}
mysql_free_result($queryResult);
/****** TEST TO SEE THE RESULT OF THE ARRAY ******/
echo '<pre>';
print_r($data_array);
echo '</pre>';
// FREE THE ARRAY DECLAREd WHEN USING COMPLETE .
mysql_close($dblink);
?>
Hope it will help you. If it help, please share in in social sites from, it is at the beginning of the topics.
Thanks.

Query for multiple SQLite tables with PHP

Forgive me if my question sounds stupid as I'm a begginer with SQLite, but I'm looking for the simplest SQLite query PHP solution that will give me full text results from at least three separate SQLite databases.
Google seems to give me links to articles without examples and I have to start from somewhere.
I have three databases:
domains.db (url_table, title_table, date_added_table)
extras.db (same tables as the first db)
admin.db (url_table, admin_notes_table)
Now I need a PHP query script that will execute a query and give me results from domains.db but if there are matches also from extras.db and admin.db.
I'm trying to just grasp the basics of it and looking for a starting point where I can at least study and learn the first code.
First, you connect to 'domains.db', query what you need, save however you want, than if there were a result in the first query, you connect to the others and query them.
$db1 = new SQLite3('domains.db');
$results1 = $db1->query('SELECT bar FROM foo');
if ($results1->numColumns() && $results1->columnType(0) != SQLITE3_NULL) {
// have rows
// so, again, $result2 = $db2->query('query');
// ....
} else {
// zero rows
}
// You can work with the data like this
//while ($row = $results1->fetchArray()) {
// var_dump($row);
//}

http://php.net/manual/en/sqlite3.query.php
http://php.net/manual/en/class.sqlite3result.php
Edit.: A better approach would be to use PDO, you can find a lot of tutorials and help to use it.
$db = new PDO('sqlite:mydatabase.db');
$result = $db->query('SELECT * FROM MyTable');
foreach ($result as $row) {
echo 'Example content: ' . $row['column1'];
}
You can also check the row count:
$row_count = sqlite_num_rows($result);

Basic mysqli select

I have a select statement where I want to get all rows from a table but seem to be having a mental blockage - this should be elementary stuff but can't seem to get it working.
There are only two rows in the table 'postage_price' - and two columns : price | ref
Select statement is as follows:
$get_postage="SELECT price FROM postage_price ORDER BY ref DESC";
$get_postage_result=mysqli_query($dbc, $get_postage) or die("Could not get postage");
while($post_row=mysqli_fetch_array($dbc, $get_postage_result))
{
$post1[]=$post_row;
}
I am then trying to echo the results out:
echo $post1['0'];
echo $post1['1'];
this is not showing anything. My headache doesn't help either.
while($post_row = mysqli_fetch_array($dbc, $get_postage_result))
{
$post1[] = $post_row['price'];
}
As you see: $post_row in this line: = mysqli_fetch_array($dbc, $get_postage_result) is an array. You are trying to save the whole array value to another array in a block. :)
EDIT
while($post_row = mysqli_fetch_array($get_postage_result))
...
You have $post1[]=$post_row; and $post_row is itself an array. So you can access post data with following: $post1[NUMBER][0] where NUMBER is a $post1 array index and [0] is 0-index of $post_row returned by mysqli_fetch_array.
Probably you wanted to use $post1[]=$post_row[0]; in your code to avoid having array of arrays.
You are passing 1 and 0 as string indexes, this would only work if you had a column called 0 or 1 in you database. You need to pass them as numeric indexes.
Try:
print_r($post1[0]);
print_r($post1[1]);
or
print_r($post['price']);
print_r($post['ref']);
with all your help I have found the error - it is in the mysqli_fetch_array where I had the $dbc which is not required.
$get_postage="SELECT price FROM postage_price ORDER BY ref DESC";
$get_postage_result=mysqli_query($dbc, $get_postage) or die("Could not get postage");
while($post_row=mysqli_fetch_array($get_postage_result))
{
$post1[]=$post_row['price'];
}
instead of:
$get_postage="SELECT price FROM postage_price ORDER BY ref DESC";
$get_postage_result=mysqli_query($dbc, $get_postage) or die("Could not get postage");
while($post_row=mysqli_fetch_array($dbc, $get_postage_result))
{
$post1[]=$post_row['price'];
}
Bad day for me :(
Thanks all
If something does not work in a PHP script, first thing you can do is to gain more knowledge. You have written that
echo $post1['0'];
echo $post1['1'];
Is showing nothing. That could only be the case if those values are NULL, FALSE or an empty string.
So next step would be to either look into $post1 first
var_dump($post1);
by dumping the variable.
The other step is that you enable error display and reporting to the highest level on top of your script so you get into the know where potential issues are:
ini_set('display_errors', 1); error_reporting(~0);
Also you could use PHP 5.4 (the first part works with the old current PHP 5.3 as well, the foreach does not but you could make query() return something that does) and simplify your script a little, like so:
class MyDB extends mysqli
{
private $throwOnError = true; # That is the die() style you do.
public function query($query, $resultmode = MYSQLI_STORE_RESULT) {
$result = parent::query($query, $resultmode);
if (!$result && $this->throwOnError) {
throw new RuntimeException(sprintf('Query "%s" failed: (#%d) %s', $query, $this->errno, $this->error));
}
return $result;
}
}
$connection = new MyDB('localhost', 'testuser', 'test', 'test');
$query = 'SELECT `option` FROM config';
$result = $connection->query($query);
foreach ($result as $row) {
var_dump($row);
}

MySQL query within foreach loop

I want to show all text messages from db where id=$e ($err is an array).
Inserted the query into the foreach loop, it works well but it does extra work (does query for every value of array).
Is there any other way to do it (i mean extract query from foreach loop)?
My code looks like this.
foreach ($err as $e)
{
$result = $db -> query("SELECT * from err_msgs WHERE id='$e'");
$row = $result -> fetch_array(MYSQLI_BOTH);
echo "<li><span>".$row[1]."</span></li>";
}
It is much more efficient to do this with implode() because it will only result in one database query.
if (!$result = $db->query("SELECT * FROM `err_msgs` WHERE `id`='".implode("' OR `id`='",$err)."'")) {
echo "Error during database query<br />\n";
// echo $db->error(); // Only uncomment this line in development environments. Don't show the error message to your users!
}
while ($row = $result->fetch_array(MYSQLI_BOTH)) {
echo "<li><span>".$row[1]."</span></li>\n";
}
Check the SQL IN clause.
Firstly, a bit of a lecture: embedding strings directly into your queries is going to cause you trouble at some point (SQL injection related trouble to be precise), try to avoid this if possible. Personally, I use the PDO PHP library which allows you to bind parameters instead of building up a string.
With regard to your question, I'm not sure I have understood. You say that it does extra work, do you mean that it returns the correct results but in an inefficient way? If so then this too can be addressed with PDO. Here's the idea.
Step 1: Prepare your statement, putting a placeholder where you currently have '$e'
Step 2: Loop through $err, in the body of the loop you will set the place holder to be the current value of $e
By doing this you not only address the SQL injection issue, you can potentially avoid the overhead of having to parse and optimise the query each time it is executed (although bear in mind that this may not be a significant overhead in your specific case).
Some actual code would look as follows:
// Assume that $dbdriver, $dbhost and $dbname have been initialised
// somewhere. For a mysql database, the value for $dbdriver should be
// "mysql".
$dsn = "$dbdriver:host=$dbhost;dbname=$dbname";
$dbh = new PDO($dsn, $dbuser, $dbpassword);
$qry = "SELECT * from err_msgs WHERE id = :e"
$sth = $dbh->prepare($qry);
foreach ($err as $e) {
$sth->bindParam(":e", $e);
$sth->execute();
$row = $sth->fetch();
// Prints out the *second* field of the record
// Note that $row is also an associative array so if we
// have a field called id, we could use $row["id"] to
// get its value
echo "<li><span>".$row[1]."</span></li>";
}
One final point, if you want to simply execute the query once, instead of executing it inside the loop, this is possible but again, may not yield any performance improvement. This could be achieved using the IN syntax. For example, if I'm interested in records with id in the set {5, 7, 21, 4, 76, 9}, I would do:
SELECT * from err_msgs WHERE id IN (5, 7, 21, 4, 76, 9)
I don't think there's a clean way to bind a list using PDO so you would use the loop to build up the string and then execute the query after the loop. Note that a query formulated in this way is unlikely to give you any noticable performance improvment but it really does depend on your specific circumstances and you'll just have to try it out.
You can do this much simpler by doing
$err_csv = implode("','",$err);
$sql = "SELECT FROM err_msgs WHERE id IN ('$err_csv')";
$result = $db -> query($sql);
while ($row = $result -> fetch_array(MYSQLI_BOTH))
{
echo "<li><span>".$row[1]."</span></li>";
}
That way you don't have to keep sending queries to the database.

convert mysql query in to an array format

can any one know the, convert mysql query in to an php array:
this is mysql query :
SELECT SUM(time_spent) AS sumtime, title, url
FROM library
WHERE delete_status = 0
GROUP BY url_id
ORDER BY sumtime DESC
I want to convert this query in to simple php array .
So, you need to get data out of MySQL. The best way, hands down, to fetch data from MySQL using PHP is PDO, a cross-database access interface.
So, first let's connect.
// Let's make sure that any errors cause an Exception.
// <http://www.php.net/manual/en/pdo.error-handling.php>
PDO::setAttribute(PDO::ATTR_ERRMODE, PDO::ERRMODE_EXCEPTION);
// We need some credentials...
$user = 'username';
$pass = 'password';
$host = 'hostname';
$dbname = 'database';
// PDO wants a "data source name," made up of those credentials.
// <http://www.php.net/manual/en/ref.pdo-mysql.connection.php>
$dsn = "mysql:host={$host};dbname={$dbname}";
$pdo = new PDO($dsn, $user, $pass);
There, we've connected. Let's pretend that $sql has the SQL you provided in your question. Let's run the SQL:
$statement = $pdo->prepare($sql);
$statement->execute();
There, it's been executed. Let's talk about results. You steadfastly refuse to tell us how you want your data structured, so let's go through four ways that you could get your data.
Let's first assume that the query returns a single row. If you want a numerically indexed array, you would do this:
// <http://www.php.net/manual/en/pdostatement.fetch.php>
$array = $statement->fetch(PDO::FETCH_NUM);
unset($statement);
If you want an associative array with the column names as the keys, you would do this:
$array = $statement->fetch(PDO::FETCH_ASSOC);
unset($statement);
Now, what if the query returns more than one record? If we want each row in a numerically indexed array, with each row as an associative array, we would do this:
// <http://www.php.net/manual/en/pdostatement.fetchall.php>
$array = $statement->fetchAll(PDO::FETCH_ASSOC);
unset($statement);
What if we want each row as a numerically indexed array instead? Can you guess?
$array = $statement->fetchAll(PDO::FETCH_NUM);
unset($statement);
Tada. You now know how to query MySQL using the modern PDO interface and get your results as no less than four types of array. There's a tremendous number of other cool things that you can do in PDO with very minimal effort. Just follow the links to the manual pages, which I have quite intentionally not linked for you.
This over-the-top post has been brought to you by the letters T, F and W, and the number PHP_MAX_INT + 1.
i don't get you clearly, but
mysql_fetch_array and mysql_fetch_assoc
both returns only array
please refer:-
http://php.net/manual/en/function.mysql-fetch-array.php
http://php.net/manual/en/function.mysql-fetch-assoc.php
If you just need a simple array...
while ($row = mysql_fetch_array($query)) { //you can assume rest of the code, right?
$result[$row['url_id']] = array($row['sumtime']);
}
For a simple array
$sql = mysql_query("SELECT SUM(time_spent) AS sumtime, title, url
FROM library
WHERE delete_status = 0
GROUP BY url_id
ORDER BY sumtime DESC");
while($row = mysql_fetch_array($sql)){
$array1 = $row['sumtime'];
$array2 = $row['title'];
$array3 = $row['url'];
}
Hope this is one you wanted
Dude the fastest way is probably the following
$data = array();
while($row = mysql_fetch_array($result))
{
$data[] = $row;
}
print_r($data);
