I have an index.php file that I would like to run getdata.php every 5 seconds.
getdata.php returns multiple variables that need to be displayed in various places in index.php.
I've been trying to use the jQuery .load() function with no luck.
It's refreshing the 12 <div> elements in various places on the index.php, but it's not re-running the getdata.php file that should get the newest data.
But If I hit the browser refresh button, the data is refreshed.
getdata.php returns about 15 variables.
Here is some sample code:
<script>
var refreshId = setInterval(function()
{
$('#Hidden_Data').load('GetData.php'); // Shouldn´t this return $variables
$('#Show_Data_001').fadeOut("slow").fadeIn("slow");
$('#Show_Data_002').fadeOut("slow").fadeIn("slow");
$('#Show_Data_003').fadeOut("slow").fadeIn("slow");
$('#...').fadeOut("slow").fadeIn("slow");
}, 5000); // Data refreshed every 5 seconds
*/
</script>
Here's an example of GetData.php:
$query = "SELECT column1, COUNT(column2) AS variable FROM table GROUP BY column";
$result = mysql_query($query) or die(mysql_error());
while($row = mysql_fetch_array($result)){
$column1 = $row['column1 '];
$variable = $row['variable '];
if($column1 == "Text1") { $variable1 = $variable; }
elseif($column1 == "Text2") { $variable2 = $variable; }
... continues to variable 15 ...
}
Then further down the page the HTML elements display the data:
<div id="Hidden_Data"></div>
<div id="Show_Data_001"><?php echo $variable1; ?></div>
<div id="Show_Data_002"><?php echo $variable2; ?></div>
<div id="Show_Data_003"><?php echo $variable3; ?></div>
...
I tried using the data parameter as suggested here:
https://stackoverflow.com/a/8480059/498596
But I couldn't fully understand how to load all the variables every 5 seconds and call them on the index page.
Today the GetData.php page just returns $variable1 = X; $variable2 = Y and so on.
UPDATE
For some reason the jQuery is not loading the GatData.php file and refreshing the variables.
I tried adding to "Hidden_Data" to the include('GetData.php') and then the variables are readable on the page.
If I remove this part, the page displays "variable not set" warning that suggesting that the jQuery is not loading the GetData.php script into the Hidden_Data <div>.
Try
<script>
var refreshId = setInterval(function()
{
$('#Hidden_Data').load('GetData.php', function() { // Shouldn´t this return $variables
$('#Show_Data_001').fadeOut("slow").fadeIn("slow");
$('#Show_Data_002').fadeOut("slow").fadeIn("slow");
$('#Show_Data_003').fadeOut("slow").fadeIn("slow");
$('#...').fadeOut("slow").fadeIn("slow"); });
}, 5000); // Data refreshed every 5 seconds
*/
</script>
Above is assuming, that your code returns snippet of HTML elements (Show_Data_XXX), but now that you've clarified your question above wont help you alone...
What you need to do is either in your php send back new value elements or send back your results as data and update existing elements.
Put your elements into a php Array and then send it back
data.php after sql call
$results = Array();
while($row = mysql_fetch_array($result)){
$column1 = $row['column1 ']; // change Text1 in db to Show_Data_001 in html or vice versa
$variable = $row['variable '];
$results[$column1] = $variable;
}
echo json_encode($results);
in your javascript something like this...
$.getJSON('GetData.php',function(data) {
$.each(data, function(key, val) {
$('#'+key).text(val);
});
});
I didn't put the fadeOut and fadeIn into the example, because it complicates it a bit. You could do fadeOut to all those elements before calling getJSON and the fadeIn as the results pouring in. Hope this helps
First of all, make sure you have correct respond from server, just like this:
//We won't use load() to load content for now
window.setInterval(function(){
$.ajax({
url : "path_to_your_php_script.php",
type : "GET",
beforeSend: function(){
//here you can display, smth like "Please wait" in some div
},
error : function(msg){
//You would know if an error occurs
alert(msg);
},
success : function(respondFromPHP){
//Are you getting distinct results every 5 sec?
alert(respondFromPHP);
return;
//if respondFromPHP contains data you want
//ONLY THEN, add some effects
}
});
}, 5000);
The only difference between this approach and yours, is that, you can handle errors and make sure you are getting data you want.
Can you show me the code of GetData.php?
Rather than using Jquery.load you can actually get the page with $.post or $.get and format your results from GetData.php to Json or xml you can easily map it to your javascript.
Using $.post it will allow you to have a callback after getting the value from GetData.php and you can check it if it's working right or not. If it gets a data from your GetData.php then you can populate it to your DIV elements.
You can check more information regarding POST and GET here:

When my page opens I call a PHP file and output a form in the form of an echo.
A simplified example below:
echo "<table id='results'>";
echo "<form method = 'post'><input id='".$row['batchname']."'><button class='btn1'>Query this record</button></form>";
</table>
There will be many versions of the above form as table rows are pulled from the database.
I am usin AJAX to handle the output:
$(document).ready(function(){
$(".btn1").click(function(e){
e.preventDefault();
var bname = ("#<?php echo $row['batchname'];?>").val();
$post(
"somephp.php",
{name : bname},
function(response, status){
$("#results").replaceWith(response);
}
);
});
});
When I input an non PHP ID into the jQuery the AJAX work but I always post the first returned row for every form produced as the ids output in the PHP are the same. Can I echo PHP variable into jQuery like this? Is there a better way of getting dynamic ID's into jQuery.
Rather than hacking about like this, do it properly.
$(".btn1").click(function(e) {
e.preventDefault();
var form = $(this).parents("form");
var value = form.find("input")[0].value; // or something else here
});
I have a database table which I am trying to retrieve data from using JQUERY AJAX. When my first page loads it does a php call to a table and populates a select form element. - This works
I then want to select one of the options submit the form and have the row returned via Ajax.
Previously I had the script working with just PHP files but am having trouble getting it to work. When submitting the form my URL is changing:
http://localhost/FINTAN/testertester.php?name=Specifics.
I am not getting anything back. In addition when looking at my console I get a jquery not defined
factory (jquery). I can find the line in question in my jquery ui.js. Not sure if this is the issue or my code has caused the issue. I have cleard the firefox cache and due to the fact I have not had a successful AJAX call via jquery method am guessing it my code.
To get the code below I have mixed and matched a book and an online tutorial and many other sources and this is not my first attempt. Ideally I would like to output table row. However just getting a request working and knowing its not a conflict or compatability issue would makeme feel better and not hindered before I start
<script src="jquery/jquery-ui-1.11.2/jquery-ui.js"></script>
<script type="text/javascript" src="https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.11.2/jquery.min.js"></script>
<script>
$(document).ready(function(){
$("#btn").click(function(){
var vname = $("#name").val;
}
}
$.post("addithandle1.php",
{
name:vname};
function(response,status){
alert("recieved data-------*\n\nResponse : " + response
+"\n\nStatus : " + status);
}
}
</script>
</head>
<body>
<?php
include "config.php";
if (mysqli_connect_errno($con))
{
}
else
{
$result = mysqli_query($con, "SELECT * FROM script ");
echo " <Form method='post'> <label>Script :</label> <select id='name' name='name' >";
}
while($row = mysqli_fetch_array($result))
{
echo "<option value = '".$row['scriptname']."'>".$row['scriptname']."</option>";
}
echo "</select>";
echo "<button id='btn' class='btn-search'>Load Script </button></form>";
?>
</body></html>
This is my PHP file that I am trying to retrieve from
<?php
include 'config.php';
$batchtype2 = $_POST['name'];
$batchtype2 = mysqli_real_escape_string($con,$batchtype2);
$sql = "SELECT * FROM script WHERE scriptname = '".$batchtype2."' ";
$result = mysqli_query($con,$sql);
$count=mysqli_num_rows($result);
if($count==0 ){
echo "</br></br></br></br></br></br></br><p> No Matching results found</p>";
}
else{
while($row = mysqli_fetch_array($result)) {
echo '<tr><td>'.$row['scriptname'].'</td></tr>';
echo '<tr><td>'.$row['scripthours'].'</td></tr>';
echo '<tr><td>'.$row['scripttotal'].'</td></tr>';
}
}
mysqli_close($con);
?>
Thanks in advance for any help
By making the following corrections (you have some syntax issues as well as usage issues which should be revealed in your browser's console when you load this page) in your JavaScript/jQuery this will work like you expect -
Make sure to change this line -
var vname = $("#name").val;
to this -
var vname = $("#name").val(); // note the parentheses
in your function -
$(document).ready(function(){
$("#btn").click(function(e){
e.preventDefault(); // prevent the default action of the click
var vname = $("#name").val();
$.post("addithandle1.php", {name:vname}, function(response, status) { // POST instead of GET
// never use alert() for troubleshooting
// output for AJAX must be in the callback for the AJAX function
console.log("recieved data-------*\n\nResponse : " + response +"\n\nStatus : " + status);
$('#table').html(response); // put response in div
});
});
});
Now $_POST['name'] should get populated properly.
To get the table to appear in your requesting page first make sure that your PHP forms the table completely.
Add a div to your requesting page and modify the AJAX call above as shown.
<div id="table"></div>
Now, when you make a request the div on the requesting page will be updated with whatever comes back from the PHP script.
There are a couple of things about your script.
First make sure you write well structured code and that it is nothing in the wrongplace / broken.
You have in the $(document).ready(function(){ only the .click event of the button, but you left the ajax request outside, I imagine you did that so it will also make the ajax request in the first page load
The problem is that now it will only make it in the first page load, but not when you click the button, on clicking button you are only getting the value of name.
I recommend you to try something like this:
<script>
$(document).ready(function() {
// bind button click and load data
$("#btn").click(function(){
loadData();
return false; // prevent browser behaviour of the button that would submit the form
}
// load data for the first time
loadData();
};
function loadData() {
var vname = $("#name").val;
$.post("addithandle1.php", { name:vname }, function(response, status) {
alert("recieved data-------*\n\nResponse : " + response
+"\n\nStatus : " + status);
});
}
</script>
A few notes:
I would recommend always putting jquery code inside $(document).ready since that guarantees that jquery was loaded before running it
By default a form that has a submit button that you click, will get the form submitted by the browser, if you use ajax, you should prevent that behaviour, either on the button click event or on form with onsubmit="return false".
I want to refresh a PHP page every few second with SetInterval(); and it stop refreshing the page if a data added to database. so, when it refreshing my PHP page, it always checking is there a new data added to the database or not..
I'm trying to use this kind of logic but its not working...
$query = mysql_num_rows(SELECT id_example FROM table_example);
$a = count($query);
$b = $a+1;
IF($a==$b)
{
Stop_refreshing_the_page;
}
else
{
Refresh_with_setInterval();
}
is there anyone can suggest me better logic/algorithm/code example to do that??
Which part is not working?
Also, setInterval is probably not what you want if you are refreshing the entire page each time -- seems like a simple setTimeout and reload would do the trick, then simply not print that when you have db results.
Edited for OP
I assume this is not valid PHP, but you should get the idea.
$previous_count = $_GET['previous_count'];
$query = mysql_num_rows(SELECT id_example FROM table_example);
$result_count = count($query);
if ($previous_count == $result_count)
{
// this should render some javascript on the page including $result_count
}
The resulting javascript would be something like:
<script type='text/javascript'>
window.setTimeout( function(){
window.location = window.location.pathname + "?previous_count=<?php echo $previous_count; ?>";
}, 2000);
</script>
I have a table containing data read from a MySQL database via PHP. The first column holds all item names. Now, on clicking a td element in the first column of the table would link to a page with more detailed information about the item contained in the td.
Now I came up with the following idea:
$(document).ready(function() {
$('#table td:first-child').click(function() {
$('div.main').animate({
height: "50px"
}, 600);
setTimeout(function() {
$('div.data').fadeIn(1000);
}, 600);
});
});
div.main is the div-container that has the table included. What I want to do now is to slide that container up and fade a new div-container in, right below it, the new container include()s a PHP page which holds a dynamic query (pseudocode, no string escaping, simplified version):
SELECT detail FROM items WHERE items.name = $_GET['name'];
What I couldn't figure out is if and how I can tell the PHP file that is included in the in-fading div-container which item name it has to grab details for, off the database.
Right now I can read the item name via JavaScript/jQuery, but I couldn't figure a way out to pass that value to the PHP file without having to reload the page.
Any ideas or suggestions welcome!
I think what you're looking for is asynchronous JavaScript and XML (AJAX). It sounds intimidating, but fortunately jQuery makes it very easy.
You can call $.ajax() directly, but for most cases, you can use one of the convenience wrappers. In this case, I think $.load() will meet your needs.
So, let's say your PHP file is called detail_ajax.php and it returns the HTML you wish to put in your div (with class data). All you would have to do then is this:
$('div.data').load( '/detail_ajax.php', function(data){
$(this).html(data);
});
If you want to pass data TO detail_ajax.php, you can pass it along this way:
$('div.data').load( '/detail_ajax.php', { 'someField' : 'someValue' },
function(data) {
$(this).html(data);
}
});
In detail_ajax.php, if you examine $_POST['someField'], you will see the value passed in.
You can do this by using ajax. Output your query on a separate page in JSON format then fetch it using jquery ajax
you need to use ajax to do the same thing. create an event like onclick and call a
method on click call ajax set variable in js and pass it to and do as you want,
show data in particular div in response. Hope it will help you.
You are looking for $.ajax(). However, 3 things will need to take place for this to happen as you intend.
First, we need a reference held in the HTML that is generated by the table so we can streamline the server request. When you generate the table, add a unique data-name string to the TD.
<td data-name="<?php echo $row['name']; ?>">
If, for instance, the td's were generated in a foreach loop, where we expect an array to be returned.
Now, we need to detect the request on our page so we can properly return the data to the browser, we'll look for $_GET['name'] as per your example.
<?php
if(isset($_GET['name'])):
$mysqli = new mysqli('host', 'user', 'pass', 'db');
$ret;
if($stmt = $mysqli->prepare('SELECT detail FROM items WHERE items.name = ?')):
$stmt ->bind_param('s', $_GET['name']);
$stmt ->execute();
$stmt ->bind_result($details); // we only want one column
$stmt ->fetch(); //get our row
$ret['success'] = TRUE;
$ret['html'] = '<div>'. $details .'</div>';
else:
$ret['success'] = FALSE;
endif;
echo json_encode($ret); //return to the browser
endif;
?>
Now we need to employ ajax to bridge the gap between the server and the browser.
Edit - I forgot to modify the click function.
$('#table td:first-child').click(function() {
$('div.main').animate({
height:'0px'
}, function(){
//once the animation completes
$.ajax({
url: '/',
type: 'GET', //this is default anyway
data:{name: $(this).data('name')}, //send the name from the td clicked
dataType: 'json', //what we expect back from the server
success: function(data){ //will fire when complete. data is the servers response
if(data.success !== false){
$('div').html(data.html);
$('div.main').animate({
height: "50px"
}, 600);
}else{
alert("Something went wrong");
}
}
});
}, 600);
});
How do I reload this input once after 3 seconds has passed after the webpage has loaded. using javascript
<input type="text" name="steamID" id="steamID" value="<?php echo $steamid; ?>">
Try looking at this answer on SO:
Reload random div content every x seconds
If that doesn't work for you, you will have to use ajax to get new content. Look at jQuery's API here:
http://api.jquery.com/jQuery.ajax/
Or if you're not using jQuery, look at this for a tutorial on AJAX:
http://www.w3schools.com/ajax/default.asp
Otherwise, for more help, please post more of your code -- but ajax will have to be used
If you want the PHP in your code to be run again, you need to make you code a little more complicated.
You will need the following components
a php file that will lookup and print $steamid only.
a javascript function that uses AJAX to get the information from the php file, sets the value of your input
call the javascript on page load, then set an interval for 3 seconds and call it again.
But based on this...
The problem i have that the PHP var $steamid are set after the input has been created so all i need todo is reload the input so the $steamid will show.
... I think you just need to re-order your PHP code.
By reset, I am assuming you mean set the value to null.
$(window).load(function(){
setTimeout( function() {
document.getElementById("steamID").value = "";
},3000);
});
EDIT: Based on your further description, wait until steamID is set, then put this on the page:
<script type="text/javascript">
document.getElementById("steamID").value = "<?php echo $steamid; ?>";
</script>
<?php
echo "<script type='text/javascript'>";
$steamid = "testing 1,2,3";
echo " var sID = '".$steamid."';";
?>
function setupRefresh() {
setInterval("refreshVal()", 3000);
}
function refreshVal() {
var e = document.getElementById('steamID');
e.value = sID;
}
</script>
