I'm using SwfUpload and I want to be able to specify the destination folder. Right now I have hard coded the final destination, but I would like to be able to control it on the fly. Is there a way to get SwfUpload to submit it to my upload script? I tried adding it as a hidden variable to the form that displays the uploader, but it doesn't make it to my script:

Then in upload.php I check for it:
if (isset($_REQUEST["destinationpath"]))
$save_path = $_REQUEST["destinationpath"];
but its not set. I suspect that swf upload does not submit the form.
The way to do it is to specify the parameter in post_params of the SWFSettings object
post_params:
{
"destinationpath" : "C:\DigitalMediaFiles"
},
I tried using addPostParam() but that did not work for me. putting it in post_params of the settings did.
If your destination folder is not related to the up-loader(client), you can do it in your php script, without getting that variables from client side scripts. That is save the file in your target directory by php script.
If the destination folder is different from each client, still you can save them in a same directory and use your .htaccess file to rewrite urls for each client(using client id). In this case you need to save your file that keeps client id in a portion of the file name. You can explode file name by using a delimiter.
If still you need to do it your own way that is you mentioned in your question,just use post_params: {} function in your configuration js file which is coded for the swfupload.js file. In that case post_params: {} function will look like the following:
post_poarams: { 'your-variable-name-in-php-goes-here': 'value of this variable at this time goes here' },

I need to get the full file path including file name information to handle later with PHP.
I am running into many difficulties.
We can use a html form with the html

However, to pass this information we need to the server, we actually have to upload the file, I do not want to do this as its wasteful, The reason being is that this project is just for my local machine, The file already exists on my machine.
A manual way of achieving this is to provide a input text field, and inserting the file(s) full location path here via another file navigation window(copy/paste), But this quickly becomes boring and requires to much work when using the tool often.
Any other suggestions to achieve this?

I'm using wampserver on my computer and wrote a simple html-form:

When I click on "browse" and open a file ,for example pil.png it shows in the input textarea the full path(C:\Users\hope\Desktop\images\pil.png)
I want this exact link saved but when I try to catch it $name = $_POST["name"];it only displays this- "pil.png" not the full path. why?
You cannot get the complete local file path. Only the file data itself and its name is submitted to the server. The file path being displayed in the input element is only visual styling, it has no functionality.
File elements are very limited for security reasons, and that's a good thing.
The browser doesn't submit the full path because it would be a privacy problem, you would be exposing your file system structure to the server. It's not relevant to the server and the server doesn't need to know where the file was located on the client's filesystem.
You are getting only file_name because you are not asking for path.
to get full path you have to use

I have one HTML form where I enter the Text fields and finally upload a image file into the server.
(HTML file:<input type="file" name="filename"/ >)
I use Ajax technique and HTTP POST request to perform this task.
But I'm unable to upload file but can see the text filed values in database.I'm trying to upload image file into a folder using getimagesize($_FILES['filename']['tmp_name']and move_uploaded_file() to move from temp folder to specific folder.
FirePHP is showing the warning message as :getimagesize() [function.getimagesize]: Filename cannot be empty in my .php file on line 19
line 19 contains the getimagesize() statement.
Could anybody please let me know is it possible to upload a file using ajax technique?or any other better way to do this?

I will give you three basic ways to work on AJAX-based file uploads..
1) Faking AJAX-based file uploads - You'd create an iframe on the page (that you can hide with CSS), you can target your form to POST to that iframe.

The way you think uploads work is not the way they work. The form posts to the script you want to handle the request, not the location you want the uploads to be. When you upload a file to Apache, it places that file in the temporary directory of the computer (in Linux, that's /tmp by default).
Your script has to move the file from the temp directory to wherever you want it to be. The manual has plenty of code showing you how.

The browsers wont you allow to upload to a unkown website (Same origin policy).

I have an image uploader that uses the imgur.com API and jQuery's .ajax() function to upload images to their servers. However, if I browse for an image using the <input type="file"/> element of the form, it will only be successful in uploading an image if the image file is found in the same directory as the page.php file that the form is found in (shown below). How can I allow the form to upload images from any directory on my computer?

You've forgotten the enctype="multipart/form-data" attribute on your form tag, for one. Without that, file uploads generally don't work too well.
Beyond that, the server won't really care what directory you're uploading FROM, especially under PHP. The uploaded copy on the server is stored with temporary filename ($_FILES['file']['tmp_name']) that has absolutely nothing to do with the directory/filename on your computer.
Once it's on the server, you'll have to actually move that temporary file somewhere else, as PHP will auto-delete it once the script terminates and you've not handled it yourself. move_uploaded_file() is what's generally used to take of that process.
Perhaps this is the only folder with write-permissions.
I guess it is jquery that is doing the actual posting to http://imgur.com/api/upload as the form is just posting to itself, so my guess is that jquery / javascript can only read files in your web-space and not on your whole hard-drive.
