I have this jQuery script in my web page:
<script>
$(function() {
function callAjax(){
$('#lastlogins').load("ur.php");
}
setInterval(callAjax, 1000 );
});
</script>
But, in container lastlogins, there isn't shown file ur.php, it is just empty. I have created div like that:
<div id="lastlogins">
</div>
I don't see any wrong on your code. Only problem would be with your ur.php file. Just try to access your file directly and see, if that works.
In the meanwhile, refer my sample code.
<script>
$(function() {
function callAjax(){
$('#lastlogins').load("/SivaCharan/EGxWL/show");
}
setInterval(callAjax, 1000 );
});
</script>
<div id="lastlogins">
</div>

After a quick review of the .load function, there can only be one possibility... your PHP file is not returning anything useful. Run it directly in a browser and make sure it returns valid HTML.
Your jQuery function is correct as is.

I am trying to test the jQuery GET method, but what I am getting as result is completely insane. All I am trying to do is call a function from my controller with jQuery and then display the echoed value in a div within my view. Below is my code and finally a breakdown of the problem I am encountering.
Controller
public function generate_suggestions2() {
echo "James";
}
View views\suggestions_v.php
<body>
//This DIV is used a button to call the jQuery function
<div id="next_btn">
<p>Click here to display a name</p>
</div>
//In this div the value retrieved by the jQuery should be displayed
<div id="listB"></div>
//This is the function that calls the function within my controller
<script type="text/javascript">
$( "#next_btn" ).click(function() {
$.get("core/generate_suggestions2/",
function(data) {
$( "#listB" ).html(data);
});
});
</script> //For some reason I need to put the script at the end of the body. When it's in the head nothing happens when I click the button. Also something I do not understand.
</body>
Now the problem is that when I click the DIV next_btn it does NOT display the James in the DIV listB.
Instead it populates the DIV listB with my source code from my main view views\core_v.php
I have no idea how this is even remotely possible, so please if you have a clue or even better you know what I am doing wrong please tell me. I am trying to get this to work for the past three days without any success or progress :(
Try using this code in your view
<script type="text/javascript">
"$( "#next_btn" ).click(function() {
$.get("<?php echo site_url().'/core/generate_suggestions2';?>",
function(data) {
$( "#listB" ).html(data);
});
});"
</script>
Also delete the </script> tag just right before this block comment.
Regarding this comment you have:
//For some reason I need to put the script at the end of the body. When it's in the head nothing happens when I click the button. Also something I do not understand.
It is because the DOM is not yet fully loaded and Javascript executes its code when the browser has finished loading the DOM you are referring to. So you either have to put it after the DOM element you want to edit, like you do now or you could use $(document).ready(function(){
}
); .
Read more about it here
This line is pretty strange:
</script><script type="text/javascript">
Try to delete first closing tag 'script' on it.
I am trying to load the output of a PHP script into a using JavaScript and JQuery. The JavaScript function I am using uses the $.get function in JQuery to call a php script, which I want to display in another division. The script I wrote is:
<script type="text/javascript">
function on_load() {
$(document).ready(function() {
alert('here');
$.get("http://localhost/dbtest.php", function(data){
alert('here too too');
$("uname").html(data);
});
});
}
</script>
The PHP script (dbtest.php) uses a simple echo statement:
echo "hello, world!!!";
I am getting the first alert here, but not the second. What Can I be doing wrong here?
I suppose uname is a ID, in that case you should use:
$("#uname").html(data);
You can add this to your php for debugging:
error_reporting(E_ALL ^ E_NOTICE);
ini_set("display_errors", 1);
Try also to remove http:// from your ajax call and use relative path instead.
The guys below pointed out that the selector is wrong. Indeed that's a problem, but I think that the real issue is that you don't get the second alert. Probably your php file localhost/dbtest.php is not accessible. What happen if you open localhost/dbtest.php in a new tab?
I think the problem is the path to your dbtest.php file. You are saying you seecond alert will not be displayed so your request must be wrong.
Try to copy your page into the same folder like dbtest.php open the page in your browser with http://localhost/yourfile.php
If this does not display both alert-boxes try the same with an open developer console (Chrome/IE = F12) and look if there are errors.
You say you are trying to make ajax requests to your localhost from a Phonegap application. Phonegap prevents making ajax requests to other domains by default. You must add localhost to whitelist. Here is more detail: http://docs.phonegap.com/en/1.9.0/guide_whitelist_index.md.html
Here you have a working example:
<script src="http://code.jquery.com/jquery-1.10.2.min.js"></script>
<div id="uname"></div>
<script>
function on_load() {
$(document).ready(function() {
alert('here');
$.get("http://localhost/dbtest.php", function(data){
alert('here too too');
$("#uname").html(data);
});
});
}
on_load();
</script>
Beware of the same-origin-policy. The page loading dbtest.php must be from the same origin, unless you grant other origins by adding a header from dbtest.php.
Try add some error handling to your code to better see what´s happening.
<script type="text/javascript">
function on_load() {
$(document).ready(function() {
alert('here');
$.get("http://localhost/dbtest.php", function(data){
alert('here too too');
$("uname").html(data);
}).fail(function () {
alert("failed");
});
});
}
</script>
I want to execute a php code when a user click on a given link , i've tried the following code
<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
<head>
<script type="text/javascript" src="jquery.min.js"></script>
<script type="text/javascript">
function doSomething() {
$.get("up.php");
return false;
}
</script>
</head>
<body>
<center>
Click Me!
</center>
</body>
</html>
where up.php is a php code that implement android GCM mechanism similer to the one in the link : GCM with PHP (Google Cloud Messaging)
but unfortunately when the link is clicked nothing happens , the php code not executed ,and only the url of the page change form *****.com/test.html to *****.com/test.html# , and by the way I've tested the php code and its works fine so it is not a problem in php code , so what i have missed here? why the code is not executed?
i found the solution , the problem that the jquery library is not included probably in my code
you are using jquery. $.get() will be something like below.
$.get('ajax/test.html', function(data) {
$('.result').html(data);
alert('Load was performed.');
});
for further help check http://api.jquery.com/jQuery.get/
Sometimes, you may need to call some JavaScript from within a link. Normally, when user click on a link, the browser loads a new page (or refreshes the same page).
This might not always be desirable. For example, you might only want to dynamically update a form field when the user clicks a link.
To prevent the load from refreshing, you could use the JavaScript void() function and pass a parameter of 0 (zero) as below.
<a href="JavaScript:void(0);" onclick="return doSomething(); " />Click Me!</a>
Now if you want to use href="#", make sure onclick always contains return false; at the end.
OR
Use href="javascript:void(0)"
You can also use jQuery Load
function doSomething() {
$('#result').load('up.php', function() {
alert('Load was performed.');
});
}
When you are using Jquery should be :
function doSomething(){
$.get('up.php', function(data) {
$('.data').html(data);
});
}
Link
To stop page refreshing, you can use the javascript void() function and pass parameter of 0.
Click Me!
<div class="data"></div>
This div is used to display up.php result.
Ok start of by using fire bug and watch the console and network panels
Ensure the browser is trying to get something and not returning a 404 or a php error on the get
Look into prevent default http://api.jquery.com/event.preventDefault/
To stop the original link functionality working
If you still want them to move to the link use a window location or...
Look into bootstrap link buttons
http://twitter.github.com/bootstrap/base-css.html#buttons
( the link button )
Consider the following code:
<script src="js/backgroundChanger.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
<script>
$(document).ready(function() {
$('.Themes').click(function(){
$('#dcontent').load('printThumbs.php');
});
});
</script>
The first script is for background changing logic and the second script gives list of thumbnails of the themes. The problem is that the first script doesn't work beacause of the second. If I don't use this AJAX technique everything works fine. Working code:
<script src="js/backgroundChanger.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
<div id="dcontent">
<?php include('printThumbs.php'); printThemesThumbs();?>
</div>
The background changing logic looks like:
$(function() {
$('.themes li a img').click(function() {//code
});
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
in your first snippet of the code you defined a click function on .Theme and in the third snippet of the code .theme, is this correct?, i mean both classes seems to be different try to use the same class name return by your php function.
You're calling $(document).ready() twice, as $() is an alias, and the second definition is overwriting the first. First you are setting the document ready callback to
function() {
$('.themes li a img').click(function() {//code
}
and then overwriting it with
function() {
$('.Themes').click(function(){
$('#dcontent').load('printThumbs.php');
});
}
you have to add your second code in a callback function. you can't bind something if it is not already in the dom. if you want to make changes to the printThumbs output you need to add a callback...
<script>
$(document).ready(function() {//this is also a callback function when document is ready
$('.Themes').click(function(){//this can be understand as a call back too... code is fired after a click
$('#dcontent').load('printThumbs.php',function(){/*your callback code here...this code will be fired after you've loaded printThumbs*/}
});
});
</script>
if you want to do some jquery or other client side stuff on the respons of an ajax call (html,xml, json or whatever) you have to specify a callback function. to make things less complicated you have to look at the callback function just as the on document ready function with the difference that the callback is applied to the respons of your ajax call. if the code is not in a callback function you can't manipulate the respons because it is not injected in the dom/it simply does not exists in your browser when the document is ready.
Trying to load an external php file into another onClick. Iframes will not work as the size of the content changes with collapsible panels. That leaves AJAX. I was given a piece of code
HTML
Get data
<div id="myContainer"></div>
JS
$('#getData').click(function(){
$.get('data.php', { section: 'mySection' }, function(data){
$('#myContainer').html(data);
});
});
PHP:
<?php
if($_GET['section'] === 'mySection') echo '<span style="font-weigth:bold;">Hello World</span>';
?>
I have tested it here http://www.divethegap.com/scuba-diving-programmes-dive-the-gap/programme-pages/dahab-divemaster/divemaster-trainingA.php and get the most unexpected results. It certainly loads the right amount of items as it says in the lower bar on safari but I see three small calendars and that is it. Can anyone see where I have made a mistake?
First things first, you want to have the jQuery bit inside the ready function $(document).ready(function(){..}. In your test page, there is already a ready function at the top which contains the line $('a[rel*=facebox]').facebox(), so you might want to put the code there.
Secondly, you want to prevent the link from going to the default action, which is to load the url '#'. You do that with the preventDefault() method.
I tested and confirmed that the following code should work for you:
<script type="text/javascript">
$(document).ready(function(){
$('#getData').click(function(event){
event.preventDefault();
$.get('test.php', { cat: 16 }, function(data){
$('#myContainer p').html(data);
});
});
});</script>
You can find more details and examples of jQuery's get function here.
