I have a static website upon which I have performed CMS but when I added .htaccess file for url rewriting its not working.
eg. www.example.in/new/index.php to www.example.in/new/index. there are about 50 pages in my website. what shall i do, i m completely lost. this is the first time i m using .htaccess file.
I have written:
RewriteEngine On
RewriteRule ^([a-zA-Z0-9_-]+)$ index.php?user=$1
RewriteRule ^([a-zA-Z0-9_-]+)/$ index.php?user=$1.
RewriteEngine On
RewriteRule ^new/([a-zA-Z0-9_-]+)$ new/index.php?user=$1
RewriteRule ^new/([a-zA-Z0-9_-]+)/$ new/index.php?user=$1.
You may need to set
AllowOverride All
in your Apache config.

I need to rewrite only 1 specific URL, to display to visitors specific content: I tried something like, this:
RewriteEngine on
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} example.com/test/2_5/page.html
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ example.com/tt.html [R,L]
I need to rewrite all requests to:
http://example.com/test/2_5/page.html
to
http://example.com/tt.html
how to do this?
thanks,
Redirect /test/2_5/page.html /tt.html
Ok, mod_rewrite
RewriteRule ^/test/2_5/page.html /tt.html [L]
Remove first / if using .htaccess in the site's root folder, not the .conf file. And, typically, the final url should be the full one, with http:// and domain, but this one will work too. If you want to do everything by the rules then
RewriteRule ^/test/2_5/page\.html$ http://example.com/tt.html [L]
i'm creating a website, before uploading the site to web hosting i'm using XAMPP on windows. i was trying to use Search Engine Friendly URLs, for example:
http://localhost/mysite/[something]
to
http://localhost/mysite/index.php?p=[something]
i tried this .htaccess
Options +FollowSymLinks
RewriteEngine On
RewriteRule ^([0-9A-Za-z]+) index.php?id=$1 [QSA,L] #and also tried http://localhost/mysite/index.php?p=$1
before this i tried more examples but they didn't work. The real problem is that for example if y type
localhost/mysite/some_page
i get an error (403), using the [R] flag i realized that redirection is: http://localhost/C:/XAMPP/htdocs/mysite/index.php?p=some_page
i removed htaccess file and restarted apache but problam persist with some urls
Perhaps I'm trying to solve a different problem, but if the [something] always leads to content served by your index.php, then just send all requests to index.php and let that page use the URL string to get the variable you need to serve the right content (ie the string after the /).
You may need to turn off MultiViews in your .htaccess using Options -MultiViews.
The following is what you need in your .htaccess
RewriteBase /
# Where "/" is the location of your index.php
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ index.php/$1 [QSA, L]
Hope this helps.
This is my .htaccess code.
RewriteEngine On
RewriteRule ^([a-zA-Z0-9]+)/$ movie.php?name=$1
RewriteEngine on
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^www.example\.in$
RewriteRule ^/?$ "http\:\/\/example\.in" [R=301,L]
ErrorDocument 404 /404.php
AddDefaultCharset UTF-8
Header unset ETag
FileETag None
I need a clean URL for my website.
I've consulted lots of tutorials and forums and created the above code.
But it's not working. Almost I'm fighting with code.
I don't understand the clean URL concept clearly. Are there any codings I have to write in my PHP file?
<a href='movie.php?name=titanic'> Titanic </a>
I have this link in my index.php file.
I'd like example.in/movie/titanic when I click on the link "Titanic".
Also I'd like to get the value by $_[request].
What exactly do I have to do? Please don't mark this question as duplicate, I've searched a lot and haven't got the concept clearly. Please help me out.
Thanks.
The rules in .htaccess work on url's relative to the directory your .htaccess file is in. If you have a .htaccess in your www-root, then the first argument of RewriteRule will match everything behind the domain name and before the query string (movie/titanic in http://example.com/movie/titanic?is=amovie). To fix the rule, you need to change the rule to:
RewriteRule ^movie/([a-z0-9]+)/?$ movie.php?name=$1 [L,NC]
The [L] flag stops rewriting for this round, the [NC] flag ignores case.
Besides that, you only need one RewriteEngine on, which needs to be above all rules you write. You can safely delete the second one.
You can put your .htaccess into main Directory:
RewriteEngine On
RewriteRule ^movie/([a-zA-Z0-9]+)(/)$ movie.php?name=$1 [L]
Or in movies/ directory:
RewriteEngine On /movies/
RewriteRule ^([a-zA-Z0-9]+)(/)$ ../movie.php?name=$1 [L]
While movie.php is in main Directory located.
RewriteEngine On can by starterd only once per htaccess.
On my site I have multiple URLs like this:
Main Page:
mysite.com
mysite.com/?content=about
mysite.com/?content=posts&page=2
Subfolders:
mysite.com/subsite/
mysite.com/subsite/?content=about
mysite.com/subsite2/?content=posts&page=2
I'd like to make clean these up to be:
mysite.com/about/
mysite.com/posts/2
mysite.com/subsite/about/
mysite.com/subsite/posts/2
Now, I've been able to use mod_rewrite for one variable, and some other simple things, but I'm not exactly sure how to accomplish this. When I use:
RewriteRule ^([a-z]+)/([a-z0-9-]+)/?$ /?content=$1&page=$2 [L]
It recognizes the sections of the URL as variables, but it also sees the subsite as a variable, and attempts to plug in 'subsite' for 'content'.
Would anyone be able to point me in the right direction?
You could tweak you existing rule to allow for an OPTIONAL subsite/ or subsite2/ prefix e.g.
RewriteRule ^(subsite/|subsite2/)?([a-z]+)/([a-z0-9-]+)/$ /$1?content=$2&page=$3 [L]
Or just add a rule to handle the subsites before the existing rule e.g.
RewriteRule ^(subsite/|subsite2/)([a-z]+)/([a-z0-9-]+)/$ /$1?content=$2&page=$3 [L]
RewriteRule ^([a-z]+)/([a-z0-9-]+)/?$ /?content=$1&page=$2 [L]
I ended up getting this to work by putting another .htaccess file in the subsite folder.
The root .htaccess has:
RewriteEngine On
RewriteRule ^([A-Za-z0-9]+)/?$ ?a=b&content=$1 [L]
RewriteRule ^([A-Za-z0-9]+)/([A-Za-z0-9]+)/?$ ?a=b&content=$1&page=$2 [L]
In the subsite .htaccess I have: (same as root .htaccess)
RewriteEngine On
RewriteRule ^([A-Za-z0-9]+)/?$ ?a=b&content=$1 [L]
RewriteRule ^([A-Za-z0-9]+)/([A-Za-z0-9]+)/?$ ?a=b&content=$1&page=$2 [L]
If you do not need to alter the subdirectory's url, add only RewriteEngine On to the subsite's .htaccess. This basically overrides the root .htaccess rewrite rules, and loads the page from the subfolder.
