I'm trying to change an include path with JavaScript. It need's to go from this
<?php include 'sections/welcome.php'; ?>
to this
<?php include 'sections/new_visitor.php'; ?>
to this
<?php include 'sections/nda.php'; ?>
and so on... do anybody know how to code this in JavaScript?
you can't change how PHP is coded via javascript. You can send variables to php via javascript and then PHP responds to those variables... it looks like you have a registration of sorts. If you're using standard HTTP requests, you could use javascript to append a $_GET variable to the action link. For Instance:
$('#form').attr('action', $('#form').attr('action') + '?page=welcome');
Then, upon clicking the link, PHP will have access to $_GET['page'], so in php you could:
switch($_GET['page'])) {
case 'welcome':
include 'section/welcome.html';
break;
case 'nda':
include 'section/nda.html';
break;
}
Look at the if(message ===1) statement below:) sorry for being such a noob :P
var xmlHttp = createXmlHttpRequestObject();
function createXmlHttpRequestObject(){
var xmlHttp;
if(window.ActiveXObject){
try{
xmlHttp = new ActiveXObject("Microsoft.XMLHTTP");
}catch(e){
xmlHttp = false;
}
}else{
try{
xmlHttp = new XMLHttpRequest();
}catch(e){
xmlHttp = false;
}
}
if(!xmlHttp){
alert("cat create that object hos");
}
function newuser(){
if(xmlHttp.readyState ===0 || xmlHttp.readyState ===4){
name = encodeURIComponent(document.getElementById('name').value);
company = encodeURIComponent(document.getElementById('company').value);
nationalities = encodeURIComponent(document.getElementById('nationality').value);
phonenumber = encodeURIComponent(document.getElementById('phonenumber').value);
queryString = "?name=" + name + "&?company=" + company + "&?nationalities=" + nationalities + "&?phonenumber=" + phonenumber + "&?URL= newuser";
xmlHttp.open("GET", "/php/database.php?" + queryString, true);
xmlHttp.onreadystatechange = handleServerResponse;
xmlHttp.send(null);
}else{
setTimeout('newuser()', 1000);
}
}
function handleServwerResponse(){
if(xmlHttp.readyState ===4){
if(xmlHttp.status === 200){
xmlResponse = xmlHttp.responseXML;
xmlDocumentElement = xmlResponse.documentElement;
message = xmlDocumentElement.firstChild.data;
if(message === 1){
//I want to call a function here, so i can change the include path
}else{
document.getElementBy("underInput").innerHTML = 'User already exist klick to sign in here <p style="color:blue" onclick=""></p>';
}
}
}
}
}

spend hours to find what has gone wrong, but failed.. since I'm new to Ajax, so I've no idea what I'm seeing. really need you guys to find the bug.

JavaScript is case sensitive. You've got some syntax errors due to improper casing on some of the objects you're trying to create:
ActiveXobject
should be
ActiveXObject
^
and
XmlHttpRequest
should be
XMLHttpRequest
^^
The end result is that you're trying to create things that don't exist, resulting in the xmlHttp variable that is always false or undefined.
Your object creation logic seems backward (should try to create the modern object when you can, do the IE thing only if necessary), and mis-capitalized.
Try:
if (window.XMLHttpRequest) {
try {
xmlHttp = new XMLHttpRequest();
} catch(e) {
xmlHttp = false;
}
} else {
try{
xmlHttp = new ActiveXObject("Microsoft.XMLHTTP");
}catch(e){
xmlHttp = false;
}
}
I have this code that GET the php file using an AJAX method. The goal is to inform the user if the movie table is empty or not. If the table is empty, it will display a confirm box that will ask if the user wants to add movies or not?
Here's my index.php file:
Movies
Here's my moviestbl.php:
<?php
include ('../phpfunc/connect'); //includes the connection to mysql
$checkMovieTable = mysql_query("SELECT * FROM movies ORDER BY title ASC") or die("Table not found");
$countRows = mysql_num_rows($checkMovieTable);
if($countRows == 0){
?>
<script language="JavaScript">
var option = confirm("No Movies found. Add Movies now?");
if(option ==true){
//redirect to another page
window.location = "../addmedia.php?add=movies";
}
else{
//do nothing. return to current window.
}
</script>
<?php
}
?>
And finally, here's my AJAX file.
<script>
/*connect to database then count the table, if it's zero, dispLay a confirmation box*/
var XMLHttpRequestObject = false;
if(window.XMLHttpRequest){
XMLHttpRequestObject = new XMLHttpRequest();
}
else if(window.ActiveXObject){
XMLHttpRequestObject = new ActiveXObject("Microsoft.XMLHTTP");
}
function checkMovieTable(dataSource){
//get data from the server
//onreadystatechange = stores a function
var obj = document.getElementById("readystate");
XMLHttpRequestObject.open("GET", dataSource);
XMLHttpRequestObject.onreadystatechange = function() {
if(XMLHttpRequestObject.status == 200){
obj.innerHTML = XMLHttpRequestObject.responseText;
}
}
XMLHttpRequestObject.send(null);
}
</script>
When I click the link, it is not doing or displaying anything. need help. thanks.
You will need to get the data from server using an ajax request , the response could be in JSON format.
Suggestions .
use jQuery and $.ajax - for pulling data from server
on getting the response - do the confirm and switch window
You can structure the logic to handle specific logics at client & server
PHP : logic on server could beCreate and interface for responding with JSON result for status of entries on movie table. your current query should work fine.
Javascript: Make use of the interface defined on php to to query data and make use of the 'confirm' javascript to do the switching.
Right now if you change
Movies
to
Movies
You should see it working with page reloads and redirects.
This will probably work better:
<?php
include ('../phpfunc/connect'); //includes the connection to mysql
$checkMovieTable = mysql_query("SELECT * FROM movies ORDER BY title ASC") or die("Table not found");
$countRows = mysql_num_rows($checkMovieTable);
if($countRows == 0){
echo "empty";
}
?>
<script>
/*connect to database then count the table, if it's zero, dispLay a confirmation box*/
var XMLHttpRequestObject = false;
if(window.XMLHttpRequest){
XMLHttpRequestObject = new XMLHttpRequest();
}
else if(window.ActiveXObject){
XMLHttpRequestObject = new ActiveXObject("Microsoft.XMLHTTP");
}
function checkMovieTable(dataSource){
//get data from the server
//onreadystatechange = stores a function
var obj = document.getElementById("readystate");
XMLHttpRequestObject.open("GET", dataSource);
XMLHttpRequestObject.onreadystatechange = function() {
if(XMLHttpRequestObject.status == 200){
obj.innerHTML = XMLHttpRequestObject.responseText;
if(XMLHttpRequestObject.responseText === "empty"){
var option = confirm("No Movies found. Add Movies now?");
if(option == true){
//redirect to another page
window.location = "../addmedia.php?add=movies";
} else{
//do nothing. return to current window.
}
}
}
}
XMLHttpRequestObject.send(null);
}
</script>
I was able to make the code run now. Thanks to Firebug and coffee. The anchor tag is the problem. I don't know why, but when I used the img instead, it worked.
<img alt="movies" style="cursor:hand;cursor:pointer;" onclick="checkMovieTbl('/movies/ajaxphp/moviestbl.php')"/>
The PHP Script file:
<?php
//fetch the data from the table movies
include '../phpfunc/connect.php';
$checkMovieTable = mysql_query("SELECT * FROM movies ORDER BY title ASC") or die("Table not found");
$countRows = mysql_num_rows($checkMovieTable);
$json = json_encode($countRows);
if($json == 0){
echo $json;
}
?>
And lastly, the AJAX file.
var XMLHttpRequestObject = false;
if (window.XMLHttpRequest) {
XMLHttpRequestObject = new XMLHttpRequest();
}
else if (window.ActiveXObject) {
XMLHttpRequestObject = new ActiveXObject("Microsoft.XMLHTTP");
}
function checkMovieTbl(url){
//if not false
if(XMLHttpRequestObject){
XMLHttpRequestObject.open("GET", url, false); //not sync
XMLHttpRequestObject.onreadystatechange = function(){
if(XMLHttpRequestObject.readyState == 4 && XMLHttpRequestObject.status == 200){
var response = XMLHttpRequestObject.responseText;
//alert(XMLHttpRequestObject.responseText + "readyState:" + XMLHttpRequestObject.readyState + "\nStatus:" +XMLHttpRequestObject.status);
if(response==0){
//execute something here
}
}
else{
alert(XMLHttpRequestObject.responseText + "readyState:" + XMLHttpRequestObject.readyState + "\nStatus:" +XMLHttpRequestObject.status);
}
}
XMLHttpRequestObject.send();
}
}
Thanks to everyone who answered my questions and helped me. Chiao!
Alright, so I have made a shoutbox, I have been using it for some time, but just recently it has come to my attention that it eats at the cpu usage because of so many calls to the script, and I am wondering how I can go about fixing its performance.
Here is the js script for the shoutbox.
var current_shouts = 0;
function $shoutid(eleid) {
return document.getElementById(eleid);
}
function urlencode(u) {
u = u.toString();
var matches = u.match(/[\x90-\xFF]/g);
if (matches) {
for (var mid = 0; mid < matches.length; mid++) {
var char_code = matches[mid].charCodeAt(0);
u = u.replace(matches[mid], '%u00' + (char_code & 0xFF).toString(16).toUpperCase());
}
}
return escape(u).replace(/\+/g, "%2B");
}
function shouts() {
clearTimeout(getshout);
var xmlHttp = (window.XMLHttpRequest) ? new XMLHttpRequest : new ActiveXObject("Microsoft.XMLHTTP");
xmlHttp.open("GET", "shoutbox/shouts.php?i=" + Math.random());
xmlHttp.onreadystatechange = function() {
if (this.readyState == 4) {
if (parseInt(this.responseText) > current_shouts) {
getshouts();
current_shouts = parseInt(this.responseText);
}
getshout = setTimeout("shouts()", 1000);
}
}
xmlHttp.send(null);
}
function getshouts() {
var xmlHttp = (window.XMLHttpRequest) ? new XMLHttpRequest : new ActiveXObject("Microsoft.XMLHTTP");
xmlHttp.open("GET", "shoutbox/getshouts.php?i=" + Math.random());
xmlHttp.onreadystatechange = function() {
if (this.readyState == 4) $shoutid("shoutbox").innerHTML = this.responseText;
$shoutid("shoutbox").scrollTop = $shoutid("shoutbox").scrollHeight;
}
xmlHttp.send(null);
}
function push_shout() {
shout();
return false;
}
function shout() {
var xmlHttp = (window.XMLHttpRequest) ? new XMLHttpRequest : new ActiveXObject("Microsoft.XMLHTTP");
xmlHttp.open("POST", "shoutbox/shout.php");
var data = "user=" + urlencode($shoutid("user").value) + "&" + "shout=" + urlencode($shoutid("shout").value);
xmlHttp.setRequestHeader("Content-type", "application/x-www-form-urlencoded");
xmlHttp.setRequestHeader("Content-length", data.length);
xmlHttp.onreadystatechange = function() {
if (this.readyState == 4) {
if (!this.responseText) $shoutid("shout").value = "";
else {
alert(this.responseText);
}
getshouts();
}
}
xmlHttp.send(data);
return true;
}
var getshout = setTimeout("shouts()", 1000);
I'm not really the brightest crayon when it comes to js so I am not really sure how to go about fixing this. The call to shouts.php is what is really eating up at my cpu.
Here is the script for shouts.php
<?php
$db = new mysqli('localhost', 'username', 'pass', 'database');
if($db->connect_errno > 0){
die('Unable to connect to database [' . $db->connect_error . ']');
}
$stmt = $db->query("SELECT COUNT(id) FROM shout");
while ($shout = $stmt->fetch_assoc()) {
echo implode($shout);
}
session_write_close();
?>
I read up on the session locking problem so I added in the session_write_close(); but this doesn't seem to help with my issue at all.
Any tips would be greatly appreciated!
This is one of those things where tuning the code isn't necessarily going to help a whole bunch. You're essentially DDoS attacking your own hardware. My suggestion in the immediate future would be to bump up the javascript setTimeout frequency from 1000 to 2000 or higher. In the long run: upgrading hardware, moving to a faster/lighter storage solution (Redis is my personal favorite), both would be wise.
Here is some basic code that will cache the output so you're not doing as much processing.
$cachefile = 'mycache.txt';
$timeout = 5;
//if there is no cache, or the cache is older that the specified timeout
if( !file_exists($cachefile) || ( filemtime($cachefile) + $timeout < time() ) ) {
//your existing code here!
$shouttext = implode($shout);
echo $shouttext;
file_put_contents($cachefile, $shouttext);
} else {
echo file_get_contents($cachefile);
}
I have a textarea where I put some C++ code, then I get that code with javascript and send it to a PHP script via AJAX to be processed. The problem is that the code gets corrupted in the way.
Here is my code:
function showResult()
{
var code = document.getElementById('code').value;
var input = document.getElementById('input').value;
if (code != '') {
var xmlhttp;
if (window.XMLHttpRequest) {
xmlhttp = new XMLHttpRequest();
}
xmlhttp.onreadystatechange = function() {
if (xmlhttp.readyState == 4 && xmlhttp.status == 200) {
document.getElementById('result').innerHTML = xmlhttp.responseText;
}
}
xmlhttp.open('GET', 'ideone.php?code=' + code + '&input=' + input, true);
xmlhttp.send();
}
}
PHP:
<?php
echo 'Code: '.$_GET['code']; // Empty string
?>
You need to quote your query string:
xmlhttp.open('GET', 'ideone.php?code=' + encodeURIComponent(code) + '&input=' + encodeURIComponent(input), true);
I want to make a php ajax post.(post value without refresh the page) here is my code. It can return the value and show in <div id="msg"></div>, But I also want to use this value.
In #benhowdle89 's help, I made $name= "<div id='msg'></div>". but when I use echo $name, in the source code, I can see <div id='msg'></div>(html tag), this is not a pure value, so I tried to use strip_tags, but the value lost. it seems the left the ajax pointed div tag, the value also gone. Still waiting for help...
index.php
<head>
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" />
<script language="javascript">
function saveUserInfo() {
var msg = document.getElementById("msg");
var f = document.user_info;
var userName = f.user_name.value;
var url = "value.php";
var postStr = "user_name="+ userName;
var ajax = false;
if(window.XMLHttpRequest) {
ajax = new XMLHttpRequest();
if (ajax.overrideMimeType) {
ajax.overrideMimeType("text/xml");
}
} else if (window.ActiveXObject) {
try {
ajax = new ActiveXObject("Msxml2.XMLHTTP");
} catch (e) {
try {
ajax = new ActiveXObject("Microsoft.XMLHTTP");
} catch (e) {
}
}
}
if (!ajax) {
window.alert("wrong");
return false;
}
ajax.open("POST", url, true);
ajax.setRequestHeader("Content-Type","application/x-www-form-urlencoded");
ajax.send(postStr);
ajax.onreadystatechange = function() {
if (ajax.readyState == 4 && ajax.status == 200) {
var myPhpVariable = ajax.responseText;
msg.innerHTML = myPhpVariable;
// myPhpVariable is now a variable which you can use
alert( myPhpVariable );
}
}
}
</script>
</head>
<body>
<?php
echo $name="<div id='msg'></div>";
$name1=strip_tags($name);
$name2 = explode("|",$name1);
$namea=$name2[0];
$nameb=$name2[1];
?>
<form name="user_info" id="user_info" method="post">
<input name="user_name" type="hidden" value="abc|def" /><br />
<input type="button" value="abc|def" onClick="saveUserInfo()">
</form>
</body>
value.php
<?php
echo $_POST["user_name"];
?>
This is what I want. post value from index.php, then get the value by self without refresh the page. one botton with two values, I want explode them and finally get $namea and $nameb. I want use them in other php part.
You can put the ajax response into a javascript variable, then you can manipulate it from there:
var myPhpVariable = ajax.responseText;
msg.innerHTML = myPhpVariable;
alert( myPhpVariable );
Here is a working javascript example (full code):
function saveUserInfo() {
var msg = document.getElementById("msg");
var f = document.user_info;
var userName = f.user_name.value;
var url = "value.php";
var postStr = "user_name="+ userName;
var ajax = false;
if(window.XMLHttpRequest) {
ajax = new XMLHttpRequest();
if (ajax.overrideMimeType) {
ajax.overrideMimeType("text/xml");
}
} else if (window.ActiveXObject) {
try {
ajax = new ActiveXObject("Msxml2.XMLHTTP");
} catch (e) {
try {
ajax = new ActiveXObject("Microsoft.XMLHTTP");
} catch (e) {
}
}
}
if (!ajax) {
window.alert("wrong");
return false;
}
ajax.open("POST", url, true);
ajax.setRequestHeader("Content-Type","application/x-www-form-urlencoded");
ajax.send(postStr);
ajax.onreadystatechange = function() {
if (ajax.readyState == 4 && ajax.status == 200) {
var myPhpVariable = ajax.responseText;
msg.innerHTML = myPhpVariable;
// myPhpVariable is now a variable which you can use
alert( myPhpVariable );
}
}
}
The PHP file would look like:
$postVar = $_POST["user_name"];
$postVarArr = explode('|', $postVar);
// will show abc
//echo $postVarArr['0'];
// will show def
echo $postVarArr['1'];
by including $name= "<div id='msg'></div>" and calling echo $name, you're just telling the program to store "" in the $name variable and then print what is stored in that variable. That's why you're getting the unwanted output.
not sure if you're having problems posting the value or showing it in the value, but you need to echo the variable where the userName is stored, may need to send that from the ajax to the php and set it to $name.
