How to make my php program run in linux all the time? - php

I finished a program with ZMQ, built a PHP Socket Program, and in order to accept some Client requests. I must be sure that this Server Program run in linux all the time.
I run this Program like this:php /app/server.php.
And, the Terminal shows my output statement like waiting for client connecting..., at this time, I can't use my Terminal to do others things, unless I Ctrl + c to exit this program.
I want to let it automatical run in linux background like a progress. And the Program may die when PHP Error, I have to restart this program manually.
I also want to it can restart self when error happened.
How to do that? Thank U first:)

Take a look at the System_Daemon PEAR package. I've used it several times and find that it works well.

Try using "Screen" program. you can use the following parameters to de-attach it from the current terminal and have your program running inside it.
screen -d -m php /app/server.php
also to have it autostart at boot time, add the above line to
/etc/rc.local

Use the & symbol at the end of the command to run the program in the background, like so:
php /app/server.php &
You can put the above command in /etc/rc.local so that it starts automatically when the system boots.
If you program produces output, you might want send it to a log file instead of STDOUT.

Run a PHP script on server start

I'm writing a PHP script (OK, it's a daemon worker) that I'd like to run in the background, and it follows the following pseudo-code:
do {
// stuff
sleep(60*30); // 30 minutes
} while(1);
Now, how can I set this baby up to run automatically in the event that the server gets restarted. I don't need to worry about state, since everything is stored in the MySQL DB - and it should just be able to pick up right where it left off.
I'm using an Ubuntu 12.04 x64 server, on AWS (if that matters).
Thanks!
As a solution to your specific problem use bash script to execute PHP cli Pusedo code will be
\usr\sbin\php -q \home\user\myphpscript.php
this will execute the PHP script without any time constrain, however since you use PHP CLI you might not get some environment variables, which are web specific, but for such background process you hardly need them anyways.

Running a looping PHP Script on my server

I have a windows pc with apache running, and I needed a php script to continuously run to listen to inputs coming from a UDP port, and take the required action and send it back.
The only way I know how to do this, is to install curl for cmd, and run the php script with a WHILE loop. What I am afraid is that this is the wrong way to do it.and may be unreliable and take up large amount of system resources.
Can people comment on the above method? I have heard of cron..but thats for unix only? What can I do?
Hey try this below solution.
Use a bat file and schedule to execute that bat file.
For example in the bat file executephp.bat, write this
c:\xampp\php\php.exe -f c:\xampp\htdocs\do_something.php
save that bat file that contains that line.
Go to windows scheduler and create a new task and in action tab, browse to point that executephp.bat and for start in -> direct to the directory u have that executephp.bat.
For example if u save the file under C:\xampp\htdocs put that C:\xampp\htdocs in the start in.
Remember to invoke the script even when the user is not logged on.
Everything is set and it will execute without problem.
A PHP script behind Apache will always have a maximum execution time, so the while-loop should always be stopped after the specific timeout.
You should better use cron or a batch script like Venkat recommended. There are some great services for cron out there, that will do a GET request to your server and run the script. Have a look at this related thread: Scheduled Request to my website from an external source
Doesn't that fit your needs?

php exec multiple commands, apache restart

I have to run 2 commands through exec();
the first command is a wrapper calling for (Plesk panel) subsription,
the second is also a plesk command,for dns.
Note: After i execute an add subscription, the apache WILL RESTART!,
So my Question is:
can i call the exec somehow, to execute both commands at linux side without loss of the second command?
Ex:
exec(("/wrapper2 3 --create ... && /wrapper2 4 --update-soa example.com ... ) > /dev/null 2>&1 );
Php will send both commands to linux to execute, or it will restart apache after the first command, and then i can't execute the second command?
Thanks
Um... I'm thinking bad deal. Generally it is a bad idea for a process to tell its parent to restart while the process needs to keep running. But, even if it were a good idea -- Apache is the parent process of PHP in that context (do ps -A, you'll not see PHP), I can't imagine that it would let you restart it and keep running at the same time.
I'd approach it this way: if you can bridge a delay, then have a cron job look for whether a specific file exists, if it does, then execute the two command that you need it to. At a worse-case scenario, make PHP output a file which has the two commands you want run and then have cron run that file.
Well from my understanding the issue lies in the fact that Apache is going to be the parent of the script that is running, when Apache gets shut down so will the script.
Barring that you can deal with a sort of derp-y setup, you can set up a cron job that looks for when it needs to restart the server (either a file you created via touch or something from PHP), which can handle everything outside of the context of Apache's process.
A sort-of-dirty idea. :(
Put the commands in a shell script and execute that script. It's less complicated and just in case you can call it with other tools as well like on apache restart or via cron.
I think why the apache restart is your command executes too long or cost to much system resource and makes apache sub process exits.
Try using fastcgi mode instead of mod_php.
You can make a shell file to execute two commands.

running console app from php script

i start a linux console app from my php5 script, it starts ok but then termintates. I've tried using system(), shell_exec and tried starting as background process but to no avail it starts and then quits.
What i am trying to achieve is from a remote browser start a console app using a php5 script and then it should remain running (just as it would if i started it from a bash shell) , i then want to send commands (from a bash shell it would be keyboard strokes) to the console app from another set of php5 scripts. Hope its clear what i am trying to do.
If anyone could give some info on the best way about doing this, as i think i may have something fundamentally wrong.
I have a Debian Lenny box running apache.The console app is just a simple program that prints to stdout and reads from stdin.
How do you expect to send input to this app? Where is it listening for input?
It simply may only support interactive use, and exit as a result of that. Or, even simpler, it may terminate because it sees that is has no input (nothing piped in or nothing from some file) and since it's not connected to an interactive shell, it has nothing to do. There's no point in waiting for input from a user that doesn't have a way to interact w/ the application.
On every request, PHP starts up, compiles your script and executes it. After execution, the script exists. When the script exits, all of the resources it was using, including file handles, database handles, and pipes to other programs are terminated.
You're going to need to find another way to keep your program open and have PHP communicate with it. Otherwise, every request to your script is going to open a new copy of the program, and then both will exit when the PHP script is complete.
Unfortunately without knowing what the program is, it will be hard to offer suggestions on how to go about doing this.

Schedule and execute a PHP script automatically

I have written a PHP script which generates an SQL file containing all tables in my database.
What I want to do is execute this script daily or every n days. I have read about cron jobs but I am using Windows. How can I automate the script execution on the server?
You'll need to add a scheduled task to call the URL.
First of all, read up here:
MS KB - this is for Windows XP.
Second, you'll need some way to call the URL - i'd recommend using something like wget - this way you can call the URL and save the output to a file, so you can see what the debug output is. You can get hold of wget on this page.
Final step is, as Gabriel says, write a batch file to tie all this up, then away you go.
e: wget is pretty simple to use, but if you have any issues, leave a comment and I'll help out.
ee: thinking about it, you don't even really need a batch file, and could just call wget directly..
add a scheduled task to request the url. either using a batch file or a script file (WSH).
http://blog.netnerds.net/2007/01/vbscript-download-and-save-a-binary-file/
this script will allow you to download binary data from a web source. Modify it to work for you particular case. This vbs file can either be run directly or executed from within a script. Alternately you do not have to save the file using the script, you can just output the contents (WScript.Echo objXMLHTTP.ResponseBody) and utilize the CMD out to file argument:
cscript download.vbs > logfile.log
save that bad boy in a .bat file somewhere useful and call it in the scheduler: http://lifehacker.com/153089/hack-attack-using-windows-scheduled-tasks
Cron is not always available on many hosting accounts.
But try this:
http://www.phpjobscheduler.co.uk/
its free, has a useful interface so you can see all the scheduled tasks and will run on any host that provides php and mysql.
You can use ATrigger scheduling service. A PHP library is also available to create scheduled tasks without overhead. Reporting, Analytics, Error Handling and more benefits.
Disclaimer: I was among the ATrigger team. It's a freeware and I have not any commercial purpose.
Windows doesn't have cron, but it does come with the 'at' command. It's not as flexible as cron, but it will allow you to schedule arbitrary tasks for execution from the command line.
Yes, You can schedule and execute your php script on windows to run automatically. In linux like os u will have cron but on windows u can schedule task using task scheduler.
If your code is in remote hosted server then create a cron-job for the same.
Else if in local then use a scheduled task in windows.Its easy to implement.I am having servers with so many scheduled tasks running.
