I want to run PHP + MySQL server on my Android Device. People seem to suggest applications like KSWeb and Bit Web.
Other solutions suggested are that I install an application that allows me to run Linux on Android. This requires the Android Device to be rooted. :(
I don't want to use any other application for this. So I would like to build an application similar to KSWeb myself. I have searched around for how to start building such application but it has not helped so far. Any guidance on how to go about this?
I mean how is it possible for KSWeb to build something like this, without root. :O
Any guidance on how to go about building this application would be very helpful.

And you can use NDK but i recommend you to go with alternatives like CodeSourcery or Linaro

I am New to android but something sounds wrong about all this.php is a server side scripting language. Now you are going to run around from hot spot to hot spot hosting I guess a web service backed by a mysql database. Do you have a static ip? Mysql is an excellent choice for a low end dbms if sqlite was not already built into droid. Like I said I am New and it's probably me but this just sounds wrong.
From the answers I see someone talking about compiling php which would make it no longer script.
If you're open to use something other than PHP/Mysql, Python may be a good option. You can listen to sockets and send info through Python, which is supported through SL4A app.

I have a server running oracle linux and has Oracle WebLogic. How can I set it up so that if you go to my website on port 80 it runs of files on WebLogic. I only have command line access, and the reason im using web logic is because apache wont work on oracle linux.

You need to know both Java and PHP.
If you are using Oracle 11/12 G with PHP this is the best way to do so because the other way doesn't work and is not even maintained.

You just need the PHP interpreter and if you want to do web stuff a webserver.
You can get the interpreter from http://www.php.net - if you are using windows you really want to get a binary version and not compile it on your own - and the Apache webserver.
As a database PHP developers usually use MySQL (but it can also connect to most other databases).
The easiest way for your to get started is getting a package like XAMPP which will contain all you need without requiring you to configure everything manually.
For actually learning PHP, please get a recent book/tutorial. Old stuff is usually telling people to do horribly things every sane developer will hate you for (cluttering your global namespace with variables settable by the user for example).
You could have a look at the official PHP docs which also contains a "getting started" guide.
Since you are an ASP.NET developer I assume that you are familiar with IIS and that you're probably using IIS 7.5. If so then the easiest way to familiarize yourself with PHP is to use Microsoft Web Platform Installer and install PHP directly to IIS. You don't have to set any paths after that, just create a site on IIS and start putting PHP files there. Keep in mind that Web Platform Installer automatically enables WinCache extension and your changes might not be there when you hit the refresh button. Just locate the php.ini and comment out the relevant line.

If you are familiar with IIS and want to use it as your web server you can download PHP for IIS here and use some of the learning material there to get started.
If you did not want to use IIS and wanted to use Apache instead then I agree with the others XAMPP will get you a dev environment up and running quickly.

Are you asking what is required to run a .php file on a windows machine? Do you mean like an executable or a web server script?
If like an executable need the php files:
Download the php installer from http://windows.php.net/download/, and then you can run php.exe script.php
If like a web site:
You need a webserver (like apache) and the php.exe files. I would suggest if testing to download a prebuilt webserver like XAMPP (download from http://www.apachefriends.org/en/xampp-windows.html)

PHP. Presumably as difficult as it is for you, but it depends on the platform. OS X comes with it. Most Linux variants either come with it, or allow it to be installed with one command to the package manager. Windows users will have to download it seperately.
As for other things that might be needed…
If it has a GUI, it might need PHP-GTK.
If it expects to be accessed via HTTP then they will need a webserver which supports PHP. This could be Apache, IIS, or one of numerous other servers.
(It isn't clear if, when you say "The application will have a web service.", you mean "The application will access a web service" or "The application will provide a web service". If the latter, then a web server will be needed).
If you use any non-core modules, then they will be needed as well.
You need to describe your proposed application a bit better. Is there a reason the application must be in PHP? It may be possible, but it's certainly not common to code and distribute a desktop application written in PHP.
There are a few options.
If you are just writing a script (command line, etc) you don't need a webserver. You just need PHP installed to run it (there are even downloadable installers for it).
If you are writing a web-based tool, then you will need your users to have a webserver if they are meant to run it on their physical machines. And you don't need a framework...
just think of it as a Webserver + PHP as a plugin. Some webserver options: Apache, nginx, lighttpd
Try having users install WAMP, MAMP, or Zend Server CE all of which are free and come with both a webserver and PHP.
If you really want a deployable PHP script/tool, maybe look into something like PHPDock, which gives your users a single installable app (embedded server, php). NuSphere PHPDock
Honestly, it's not the greatest language to use for this type of deployment, but it's certainly fun to try to figure out! Sorry for not linking out also, don't have enough rep points for all of the links I had intended to supply.
Actually you can run php script without the need to have a webserver installed.
Just install php and then from command line:
$ php myscript.php
If you really want you can even build GUI application with php even though I would not suggest it.

This way you only will need a jvm+quercus. It also is platform independent this way because it runs in the JVM.

You can run an AMP Stack (Apache, mySQL, PHP) on Windows no problem. I have been doing this for ten years now. Running on Windows 7 64-bit is also no problem.
There are several pre-packaged installers available. My favourite is XAMPP. They usually allow full customization where needed.
You can also download the stand-alone binaries of each product and install them manually. Makes for very, very good learning but is more work.

As mentioned it is possible to develop Php and MySQL sites quite happily on Windows using something like XAMPP, even if they are later to be deployed on a Linux web server and I know a lot of people do this and it works great for them.
However I have found in the past you can run into problems later on this way. For example, a lot of people who have only used Windows in the past can get caught out by case-sensitivity in Linux. So your site runs great locally but then you start getting lots of 404 errors when you go live because for example, mypage.php is not the same as myPage.php any more.
At the other end of the development spectrum, you can achieve some really powerful functionality when you start to work the server a bit more - things like video encoding or audio conversion are possible using PHP (with a bit of help from some other apps) on both Windows and Linux but the ways that you would do it are different therefore your development environment becomes much less useful and again you run the risk of putting something live that doesn't work, even tho it runs fine when you test it locally.
Personally, I think it is always best to develop on as close an environment to the intended production server as you can to avoid any nasty surprises when you go live.
Develop on the same platform you are going to be deploying to (if possible). It'll make it extremely easy to deploy with less room for possible error.
Installing the 64-bit versions Apache/PHP/MySQL on Windows 7 is a bit of a pain, but you can easily install the 32-bit versions using XAMPP (as mentioned by Pekka) from apachefriends.org

I'm getting started with a side project that will be developed using PHP and I'm looking for guidance on getting my Windows machine up and running and ready for development (as quickly as possible). Being that PHP development is more geared towards Linux users/developers (which I am not), I'm trying to figure out how to get all the pieces in place to get a 'WAMP' stack operational locally on my Windows machine.
Any good tutorials/quick start guides out there and if not, does someone have all the steps that they could provide me with here?
Install Apache Friends XAMPP.
PHP on Windows:
Install Xampp because it is really easy to install.
Use version control system like for example git to store your code.
Use an IDE like netbeans/eclipse/aptana for faster PHP development(autocomplete, code formatting, PHPdoc, etc).
Learn a PHP framework like for example codeigniter to ease your development. The video/screencast to create a blog in 20 minutes will learn you how to use it.
Practice TDD to test your code, which will result in more stable code-base.

Learning Linux/Ubuntu:
As a sidenote when installing ubuntu which is really a straight forward process you will see that using linux isn't that difficult as you think(It used to be difficult compiling source manually etc). when you install a dual boot and play with every day. I guarantee you that in no time you will really love linux like I do. I really think linux is the best option for coding. Also redis main creator shares this opinion with me.
Probably the quickest way to get a PHP server up and running on Windows is WAMP 2.0. Wamp Site. I use it on my Vista machine. Download it, run the 'exe', and start coding. It is only 16 MB but it is powerful and very simple to use.
Why not go the official Microsoft route:
