Hello I am sending emails using php mailer class. This is the script:

It works....but I'm not able to get a failure delivery notice when a user insert a non-existent webmail address.
Any suggest? thanks

Instead of using php's mail() function, I've been trying to set up PHPMailer with no success. I put in "echo here" for debugging purposes, and that is all it shows. I do not get any emails, or the sent or error messages. I'm stumped, and after researching it on here may switch to swift mailer. I'd really like to know what I screwed up though.
In my code, address is set to my email, and the username and password are set to a dummy account I made.

As you are using Gmail I think you must make sure the gmail account has the insecure application auth activated
When I trying to send a email using PHP SMTP email server, following error has occurred.
SMTP Error: Could not authenticate. Message could not be sent.

How can I fixed this error.
The error message is very clear "Could not authenticate".
I would say you are correctly using the PHPMailer class, but just not filling in the correct gmail account details.
I suppose that in your question the fields username and password look like
$mail->Username = "#gmail.com";
$mail->Password = "";
just because you, obviously, don't want to share them, I would suggest to present them like this in the question
$mail->Username = "********#gmail.com";
$mail->Password = "********";
So if you are using the correct username and password there are other two things to check
Maybe your setting "Access for less secure apps" is turned off.
After you login from the web you can turn it on from this page
https://www.google.com/settings/u/0/security/lesssecureapps
If that is On, it might be possible you have 2-Step Verification enabled in your gmail account. If this is the case, you need to create an App specific password.

and then
Try to comment this line

I ran into this error message and wanted to post an answer in case it can help someone else. I have phpmailer installed with composer and am running php 7. The implementation of the phpmailer script that threw the error is in a php object method. The password variable, set in a config file elsewhere, needed to be declared as a global in the object context otherwise it did not contain the actual password and thus caused the authentication error..

I am trying to send an email via PHP mailer and am failing miserably. The error message I am getting is as follows:
2014-08-12 12:21:40 SMTP ERROR: Failed to connect to server: A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond. (10060) 2014-08-12 12:21:40 SMTP connect() failed. Mailer Error: SMTP connect() failed.
My code is as follows. I do not know where I am going wrong with this. I am pretty sure all information is correct, with the exception of the port. Given this is using microsoft exchange I am using port 587 -is this where I am going wrong?

Not sure if this has been cured, however this is typical firewall behavior. You could use something like Wireshark to see if the server is recieving the request.
I am using PHPMailer to send emails.
When I execute the code that sends an email to X#Y.Z, I still receive this email, not only onetime, but each time I refresh my inbox I receive many copies of it!
Note: I execute the code one time only!!
So what's wrong?
