Performance Request PHP - php

I'm focused on a big problem on my web aplication that uses PHP, Ajax and MySql.
I´ve already developed a script that uses a date-range timepicker for make calendars for each store that i have on my database + the advertisement that will be shown on the place. For each advertisement it will be printed 1 more calendar and in each calendar we have an input to write how many times this advertisement will be shown on that day-input.
When the user choose a daterange on year-to-year with 31 places and 1 advertisement for each place, it will be more than 11000 lines on my foreach, which causes a browser stack, and my database will not be updated.
What can i do to perform this type of foreach script?
Thanks!

I wouldn't recommend having someone selecting 11,000 items at a time. If they were to have something go wrong and start over they would be quite unhappy. Maybe do 3 months at a time or something like that.
The other option if you have to keep it this way is to create arrays for each month maybe and once you are done with a month convert it to a json array so it is one string instead of over 900 individual elements in an array. So when you post you are posting 12 json arrays.
Without showing any code or seeing an example it is a little hard to help.

Is there a way to store multiple records rather than using multiple rows in MySQL?

I would like to make full use out of MySQL for the purpose of a (web) application I have developed for a chiropractor.
So far I have been storing in a single row for [every year] for what are called progress notes. The table structure looks something like this (progress_note_id, patient_id, date (Y-0-0), progress_note). When the client wishes to append for the year of the current progress notes, he simply clicks at the top of a textarea (html), which I use TinyMCE JavaScript library, to make a new entry date along with the shorthand notes to go at the beginning of the column (progress_note). So far its been working ok, if there are 900+ clients (est.) there could potentially be 1300+ progress notes, for each year since the beginning of the application (2018).
Now the client wishes to be able to see previous progress notes (history), but is unable to modify any previous notes, while still be able to write new ones. The solution I have come up with is to use XML inside the textarea, and use PHP to decipher the new notes from the old ones.
My problem however is if I should have to convert my entire table from a yearly to a daily, that it could take up a lot of time and energy to convert multiple notes into each single rows, (est. 10x) Which could end up being 13,000+ rows. I realize that no matter what method I choose to do is going to be a lot of work. Another way around this perhaps I found was to use XML column type in MySQL to potentially store multiple records, and if I wish to append it, all I would need is PHP to interpret the entire XML and add a new child node, to the beginning. Each progress note is 255 - 500 chars. And in worst case scenario, if the patient was to be 52 times a year (1 for every week), there shouldn't be a large enough overhead.
Is this the correct way to solving this problem? I do wish to keep with MySQL DB and I realize that MySQL is not an intended for XML. And for some clarification, what I hope to accomplish is the same thing I intended to do with current progress notes, but with XML. I believe in ascending order (newer -> oldest).
<xml_result>
<progress_note>
<date>2020-08-16</date>
<content></content>
</progress_note>
<xml_result>
Thank-you for any of your time and for any suggestions.
Firstly, 13000+ is not a problem for mysql. In most case for web application, mysql can handle more than 10m+ records for a single instance with a good performance.
Secondly, you can use either XML or JSON format in a text field and handle the decoding in your application.

Can I display a million record in a html table in one go?

I'm currently creating a web-based system that would have a millions of data after some years (3 years = 1 million record, just guessing).
Now I have a webpage where I display all records in a html table dynamically.
If the time comes can it display these amount of data?
What are the things I need to consider?
What about hardware requirements (for the server probably)?
The set up would be a LAN set up to be use by 7 users simultaneously.
Any help would be appreciated.
Here is a my php code:
my php code
and this is the result:
Result
I guess your browser will crash if you display this inside of a table or list.
The only way i see is to lazy load and keep the DOM as small as possible while scrolling through.
Why do you want to display one million records?
Possible but browser will possibly crash.
Best approach is to have a pagination that will display like, 100 per page maybe, and have a search function.
it's not a human readable ,
you can get all data from the database is possible and saved it in an array
then make search in array and get the result what you want
I am using 1 million cells (not rows) in a plain HTML table.
It takes some time do download the data and some more to render it. But if you really need it you can display it. I don't see a production use case. I only display it to spot inconsistent data. So, not going to prod.
There are multiple component libraries to handle continuous scroll.

Notification System that loops through first ten database entries

I have looked for days now and cannot seem to find any direct examples of what I am trying to accomplish, that I can reference.
I am trying to create a simple, elegant notification system, that pulls a persons image, name (in text format), and a predefined message (selected from drop down menu), from a database, and then displays the info in an elegant little "profile like" layout, on a webpage or smartphone. The only feature that I want the app to have is an auto refresh setup (using AJAX maybe?) that cycles through the latest ten entries into the database, in a continual loop.
I already have the MySql database set up, as well as the form which supplies the information that I want show, into the database -- but I can't for the life of me figure out how to pull that info into a nice little alert, and get it to cycle through the latest ten database entries.
Thank you so much, in advance, for any assistance you can provide. I'm ok with databases, and Php, but I'm racking my brain trying to figure out how to get it to display and cycle through the first ten entries.
Thanks again!
If you have an id column or some sort of timestamp column, you can use ORDER BY and LIMIT in MySql to extract only the last X recrods.
For example:
SELECT * FROM profiles ORDER BY id DESC LIMIT 10
That will extract the top 10 id's, where in a standard id column, that will be the last 10 records.
As for formating the display - that is way to wide, and there are a lot of ways to do so.
I think you should have PHP file with SQL query SELECT ... ORDER BY id LIMIT 10, and use json_encode to JSON encode the returned array. JSON is easy to use with AJAX with JavaScript.
And about AJAX - I would use jQuery and use jQuery.getJson from PHP file do sleep and loop it
EDIT: On refresh you will do a new JSON parse, and remove last elements of container with cards, and use new elements

handle csv import with larga array through a three step process

i need some help with a project of mine. It is about a dvd database. In the moment i am planning to implement a csv data function to import dvds with all information from a file.
I will do this in three steps.
Step 1
- show data i want to import, building array
- import data, building session arrays
Step 2
- edit informations
Step 3
- showing result before update
- update data
so far it works but i have a problem with large files. the csv data has 20 columns (title, genre, plot etc.) and for each line in the csv there are some arrays i create to use it in the next steps.
When i have more about 500 lines the browser often collapse while importing. I get no response.
Anyway now i trying to do this as an ajax call process. The advantage is, that i can define how many procedures the system handle each call and the user can see that the system is still working, like an statusbar when down/uploading a file.
In the moment i try to find some usefull example illustrating how i can do this, but i could not find something useful till now.
Maybe you have some tipps or an example how this could work, saying processing 20 lines each call, building the array.
After i would like to use the same function to build the session arrays using in the next step and so on.
Some information:
i use fgetcsv() to read the rows from the file. i go through the rows and each column i have different querys like is the item id unique, the title exist, description exist etc.
So if one of these data is not entered i get an error which row and column the error occures.
I´d appreciate any help from you
use 'LOAD DATA INFILE' syntax. ive used it on files upwards of 500mb with 3mil rows and it takes seconds, not minutes.
http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.0/en/load-data.html
While this is not the direct answer you were looking for
500 lines shouldnt take too long to process, so.. heres another thought for you.
Create a temporary table with the right structure of fields
you can then extract from it using select statements the various unique entries for the plot, genre etc rather than making a bunch of arrays along the way
mysql import would be very fast of your data
You can then edit it as required, and finally insert into your final table the data you have from your temporary but now validated table.
In terms of doing it with ajax, you would have to do a repeating timed event to refresh the status, the problem is rather than 20 lines, it would need to be a specific time period, as your browser has no way to know, assuming the csv is uploaded and you can process it in 20 line chunks.
If you enter the csv in a big big textbox, you could work on by taking the first 20 lines, passing it the remainder to the next page etc, would strike me as potential mess.
So, while I know ive not answered your question directly, I hope I gave you food for thought as to alternative and possibly more practical alternatives

Web app - slider showing days of the months feature

For a school project we have to build a web app. I'll be creating something where people can keep track of their classes, their homework, and their free time. A planner/calendar. (I'm making it sound really lame here but hey, I'm tired and English isn't my first language ;) )
I'll be working in CodeIgniter for the PHP logic, combined with the usual.. CSS, jQuery, mySQL. PHP is a requirement for the course; I chose to do this in CI because well.. I wanted to learn the framework. We kind of have to show off what we can do at this point of our 'school career'.
Anyway, I would like to ask for some insights regarding a feature I want to implement. At the top of my page, I would like to show a bar which contains the days of the month. Below the day number, I would be showing how many tasks are added on that day by means of some dots. When the user clicks previous or next, I want to show the previous/next month's days. I also want some sort of slider underneath this box which the user can use to slide left and right, and cycle through the days that way. I hope that made sense?
EDIT 2: I want the slider to be dynamic. If the user slides to the previous or next months, or clicks the buttons, I want it to load the days of the previous/next months and show those. Also, say we're at the 26th of a month, the slider would have to show something like 10-31 of this month AND 1-10 of the next month. I suppose I'll also have to change my month indication (not like in the image here) so a user knows when another month starts (I'll show them the name of the month).
Here's a picture (don't mind the day numbers being messed up, I was lazy doing that correctly in Photoshop. will fix that tomo):
I've been looking at the jQuery UI sliders. I suppose I'd have to grab the number of days from a database or by using PHP? I guess the cal_days_in_month function could come in handy here. When the user clicks on the arrows or slides left or right, I don't want the page to refresh. Should I go with ajax calls there? I'm not quite sure how to implement this, to be honest. The numbers are also links to a calendar type of view which shows underneath this bar.
Could I possibly use the CI Calendar class for this? Or is it more for full-fledged google calendar-type of calendars? I thought this screencast could perhaps be useful?
If possible, could someone please provide some insights on how to start working on this and which plugins/etc I could perhaps use? I'm not sure where to start, to be honest. I'm sure I can work this out somehow, but I guess it'd be nice to get a kickstart by means of some help here. The main problem I'm seeing is the slider/next/previous thing and loading in the previous/next month's days.
Thanks in advance.
EDIT: I realise some people might say/think 'OMG, why don't you just use the skills you have instead of trying something you have to ask us about!'. Well, this is because I actually want to learn something while doing this project. Keep in mind, I'm not asking for lines of code here, I'm just asking for some insight on where to start and what stuff to use; perhaps little snippets that can help me out. Thanks.
UPDATE:
I got a very basic 'day bar' working. Still without a slider, nor do the previous and next buttons work, but hey.. at least it fills it in dynamically. It shows the 5 days previous to the current day, then this month till the end. Whatever is left to fill in gets filled with days of the next month. Quite basic. However, I do have a couple of questions!
Since someone told me yesterday that I was breaking design patterns by doing some stuff the way I was doing it, I'm extremely paranoid about the way I'm working now and I would really like some feedback from 'CodeIgniter pro's'. To fill in the 'day bar', I created a helper with a couple of methods. (One method to dynamically fill that 'month year' thing you see in the picture, another method init() which loads the list of the days, like I explained before). I loaded this helper in the controller and I'm now using the methods in my view:
<ul>
<?php
init($current_day_of_month, $current_month,
$current_year, $days_in_current_month, $show_history);
?>
</ul>
The helper then echoes my day values in my view. Is this good or bad practice? I kept thinking the wrong way when I wanted to start writing the code for this.. I wanted to have a function somewhere in my controller and then call it from the view, but I read that I shouldn't be doing it like that.. that I had to reverse my logic. I find it hard to wrap my head around the fact that I have to do this by sending arrays of data to my view (from my controller), so I opted for creating the helper. Good? Bad? Any tips, resources I should read, screencasts I should watch? Thanks a bunch.
This seems pretty straight forward to me. I don't really have time to write the whole thing now. but heres what steps I would take.
1) create a model which gets all the tasks for a month, and uses that to create an array of {date}=>{num_tasks} e.g. {'1'=>3,'2'=>1, "3"=>0, ...}. //hint: use a regular SQL count OR just loop thru and tally them.
2) create a controller function to return this array as JSON. Something like this:
public function get_month($month, $year) {
$tasks = $this->task_model->get_each_days_taskcount($month, $year);
$json = json_encode ($tasks);
echo $json;
}
3) write a html page which has a javascript function to call this controller function with AJAX. Something like:
function fill_calendar(month, year) {
$.get('some_controller/get_month/' + month + '/' + year, function(data) {
// parse the JSON then
// do something with the data here like $('#calendar').append();
});
}
4) Load this month with something like this:
$(function() {
var d = new Date();
var tmonth = d.getMonth();
var tyear = d.getFullYear();
fill_calendar(tmonth, tyear); // populate with this month
});
5) make the prev and next buttons work with something like
$('#prev_button').click(function() {
fill_calendar(current_month - 1 , tyear);
// you will probly need to make this calculation smarter than just minus 1
});
The key thing if you want your system to be dynamic is to make the data transmission short. So using Ajax, as icchanobot says, send the request for a specific month. Use get:
'some_controller?m=' + month + '&y=' + year
or even:
'some_controller?next' // or previous
The controller has to get data for the correct month, but not send back the whole month - only the data needed for your display, in a format as tight as possible. You could query how many events run on which days of that month:
SELECT day, count(event)
FROM event_table
WHERE DATE BETWEEN 'yyyy-mm-01' AND 'yyyy-mm-31'
GROUP BY day
ORDER BY day;
query needs adapting to your data structure - use a function to get the day from a complete date, and maybe use indexes so that the query returns the data fast.
Then the controller returns a string as short as you can make it, of the relevant data sorted in day order:
1=3,15=1,29=2
That would mean "1st=3 events, 15th=1 event, 29=2 events". If you don't want the number of events then "1,15,2" is enough. Empty days aren't transmitted.
the data is received by an ajax event handler on your web page and you parse it by using split, then populate the slider by using a loop.
Your biggest drag, in a very dynamic application, is if it slows down when you repeatedly ask for the next month and the next.
A few tricks:
Update the display while waiting for data; you send your query, and while it is being processed, you can slide the month into view, with the correct number of days, looking disabled so that the user knows immediately that they will get their data, and that it is in progress. Then when the data comes, populate and highlight. It will feel instant though it isn't.
Avoid processing information the user doesn't want anymore. If somebody clicks "next" three times, they want the data for july, not may, june and july. Don't process what you don't display.
Cache data you've already asked, unless you want the system to return dynamically to the server for the latest state of the calendar. You've asked for the data for May and June, but not displayed it; when the user hits "back", don't ask for that data again.
Good luck!
I really don't see the complication about this.......
If you just use the jQuery UI DataPicker and modify the js file so it stores the days in a slider, then put the data in a jQuery UI Slider and you should have almost what you require.
