I want to get value property of the object. When I try $obj->_value or $obj->value it generates error. I searched and found the solution to use PHP Reflection Class. It worked on my local but on server PHP version is 5.2.17 So I cannot use this function there. So any solution how to get such property?
Here's the really simple example (with no error checking) of how to use ReflectionClass:

Object can be typecasted into (associative) array and the protected members have keys prefixed with chr(0).'*'.chr(0) (see #fardelian's comment here). Using this undocummented feature you can write an "exposer":
function getProtectedValue($obj, $name) {
$array = (array)$obj;
$prefix = chr(0).'*'.chr(0);
return $array[$prefix.$name];
}
Alternatively, you can parse the value from serialized string, where (it seems) protected members have the same prefix.
This works in PHP 5.2 without the overhead of ReflectionClass. However, there are reasons why some property is protected and hidden from client code. The reading or writing can make the data inconsistent or the author provides some other way to expose it in effort to make the interface as lean as possible. When there are reasons to read the protected property directly, the then-correct approach was to implement __get() magic method, so always check if there is any and see what it does. This counter intuitive lookup was finally solved in PHP 8.1 with readonly properties.
Since PHP 8.0, there also attributes metadata accessible by ReflectionClass, make sure to check them also before performing attempts to break into protected members. Attributes superseded "Annotations"1, so check them, too.
1: annotations are a very nasty surprise to client coders: they parse comments to add crazy fancy black-box useless confusing functionality, should not be used anymore, but they still exist

If you want to tinker with a class without adding getters and setters....

Given the following code structure is there a way that I can get the return type of FooFactory->createService method with PHP 5.6? I've tried ReflectionClass and ReflectionMethod classes but couldn't find a way.Thanks in advance.

Using PHP5 this is not possible.
You could (and this is more of a workaround than a solution) type hint your variable on declaration. This would expose the methods etc belonging to created service to your IDE.
Example:
/* #var \MyFooService $myFooService */
$myFooService = FooFactory->createServixce('MyFooService');
Note it is the #var declaration that will inform your editor of the variable type.
Syntax being:
/* #var [CLASS_NAME] [VARIABLE] */

Just seen you dont want to create an instance of FooFactory.
By default arn't factory methods static?
So:
$fooFactory = new FooFactory();
$fooService = FooFactory->getService('FooService');
Becomes:
$fooService = FooFactory::getService('FooService');

BUT the function cacheInstance is a private function....

If you can create a class instance with new self() it means you are in the class, and of course you can access private properties an functions. This snippet is taken from the PHP Docs (link)

private, protected and public accessibility works on class level, not on object level.
While it may seem counter intuitive first, this is not your usual PHP weirdness.
It's the same in other OOP languages, like Java

Explanation
The accessibility is a mechanism to hide implementation details from code in other classes, not for encapsulation of objects. Or as it's stated in the Java specs, accessibility can be determined at compile time, i.e. there cannot be a runtime violation because it's a different object.
It makes sense, if you look at the difference between private and protected. For private members, an object does not have access to its own members if they are declared in a parent class. Sounds weird? That's because the terminology is wrong. The class does not have access to privates of its parent class (i.e. it may not use them).
Now in your method, you use private variables within the same class. There is no need to hide this implementation detail from yourself, the author of this class, no matter what the objects are at runtime.

Talking about wierd...
Noticed something about PHP's classes and I don't know if it's a bug or why it works, this is the code:

And the result isn't an error as I was expecting since I'm calling a private method (tested on PHP 5.3.10-1ubuntu3.7 with Suhosin-Patch). The result is "Prop has value: value"
As long as you're in the class, you can call your class' private methods on any instance.
At the php documentation http://www.php.net/manual/en/language.oop5.visibility.php#language.oop5.visibility-other-objects it says:
Visibility from other objects
Objects of the same type will have access to each others private and
protected members even though they are not the same instances. This is
because the implementation specific details are already known when
inside those objects.
So this isn't a bug but a wanted feature of php.
