I have installed Lampp in my computer which is running on OpenSuse 13.1. The problem is I am unable to access mysql from the hostname 'localhost', but it can be accessed via hostnames 'localhost:3306' or '127.0.0.1'. That's really strange! This has really messed up my project. Guys is there any way out to access mysql from the hostname localhost?
Thanks in advance!
Here is my hosts file:
127.0.0.1 localhost
# special IPv6 addresses
::1 localhost ipv6-localhost ipv6-loopback
fe00::0 ipv6-localnet
ff00::0 ipv6-mcastprefix
ff02::1 ipv6-allnodes
ff02::2 ipv6-allrouters
ff02::3 ipv6-allhosts
127.0.0.1 HOME-PC.home # added by Apache Friends XAMPP
127.0.0.1 HOME-PC # added by Apache Friends XAMPP
and my /opt/lampp/etc/my.cnf file:

Mysql was working fine on xampp, then after i was running a big system on it and it will always run locally it shutdown unexpected but it is not a port problem becase i followed these steps and it works again
exit Xampp server
go to your C:\xampp\mysql\data directory
delete the ibdata1 file
Delete all random files (except the actual database folders)
restart xampp server
but my question is why this problem happen and how can i avoid it permanent
my php.ini after i have edit some lines

# Replication Slave (comment out master section to use this)
#
# To configure this host as a replication slave, you can choose between
# two methods :
#
# 1) Use the CHANGE MASTER TO command (fully described in our manual) -
# the syntax is:
#
# CHANGE MASTER TO MASTER_HOST=<host>, MASTER_PORT=<port>,
# MASTER_USER=<user>, MASTER_PASSWORD=<password> ;
#
# where you replace <host>, <user>, <password> by quoted strings and
# <port> by the master's port number (3306 by default).
#
# Example:
#
# CHANGE MASTER TO MASTER_HOST='125.564.12.1', MASTER_PORT=3306,
# MASTER_USER='joe', MASTER_PASSWORD='secret';
#
# OR
#
# 2) Set the variables below. However, in case you choose this method, then
# start replication for the first time (even unsuccessfully, for example
# if you mistyped the password in master-password and the slave fails to
# connect), the slave will create a master.info file, and any later
# change in this file to the variables' values below will be ignored and
# overridden by the content of the master.info file, unless you shutdown
# the slave server, delete master.info and restart the slaver server.
# For that reason, you may want to leave the lines below untouched
# (commented) and instead use CHANGE MASTER TO (see above)

what i did was i've backup all my databases and my project files and uninstalled xampp and reinstalled. Now it's working perfectly.
you can find your databases in xampp->mysql->data folder
you can find your project files in xampp->htdocs
after reinstalling xampp and put your back up folders into where it belongs.
I updated the MySQL version the correct way, however when clicking to start running it from the error and does not start.
Now I followed following points to install the same:
Install MySQL to C:\TEMP.
Make old installation folder to mysql_old.
copy the following folders "bin, include, lib, share, support-files" to xamp\mysql\ folder. I didn't copy the data folder
Copied my.ini file from old installation to new installation in xamp\mysql\bin\ folder
Copied the old data folder to new MySQL folder

The permissions on all files inside the mysql folder are root. Can someone explain what I did wrong here?
I'm using the mysql 5.7.9-log on windows2012 as service.
Then connect and query to the mysql with .netconnector or phpmysqli
Got every query this information on windows event :
Aborted connection 2481 to db: 'dbdb' user: 'myuser' host: '127.0.0.1'
(Got an error reading communication packets)...
but query successfully applied
don't happened on mysql5.6

I'm trying to connect to my MySQL server hosted in a VirtualBox VM with the following configuration file:

Is this happening because being hosted in a VirtualBox VM?
You need to uncomment the bind-address argument to allow for connections outside of the VM.
