I need a simple help with cakephp. It may be a problem regarding routes but I couldn't figure out how to solve this problem.
I've put all my css files in webroot/css in my app. In my default layout, I just put a html link <link href="css/bootstrap.min.css" rel="stylesheet"> . It works with my url localhost/items (index function), but it doesn't work when I do localhost/items/view/2 (view function). How can I solve this problem?
Use the HtmlHelper to generate links to assets in webroot as shown in manual.
Why don't you use the HTML Helper like :
echo $this->Html->css('bootstrap.min');
echo $this->Html->css('/assets/css/bootstrap.min');

Disclaimer: I haven't got a clue what I'm doing with PHP I'm just playing around with it.
I have my css file in a folder named CSS and then my header.php and footer.php in the main site folder. If i include the header.php in other directories I am just using:
<?php include('../header.php'); ?>
I know this isn't the way to do it however I don't know how to configure it probably (with a config.php file etc..) but my issue is, once the header's included in files in any directory of course it will look for the css/main.css file in that folder so I've tried doing the following:
<link rel="stylesheet" href="<?php echo $_SERVER['DOCUMENT_ROOT']. '/JAGS/css/main.css' ?>" />
When I use the php line in the body it displays the path
E:/xampp/htdocs/JAGS/css/main.css
but if I use it there in the link tag then doesn't work.
What seems to be my problem other than the fact I'm clueless with PHP. Is there something else I should be using? Is there something I need to do in my xampp config files?
Edit: By "doesn't work" I mean the styles are not being applied.
Edit 2: Inspecting shows the following:
<link rel="stylesheet" href="E:/xamppp/htdocs/JAGS/css/main.css">
I know there's an extra p on the end of xampp, this is actually what I have the folder named. Is it because it's not saying "localhost/JAGS/CSS/main.css"? If so what would be the reason for this?

Why do you require the document root, you should just place a dot in front of it and set the base url in a meta tag.
<base href="yourdomain.com">

I have one css file(reset.css) in my main page say index.php.
Inside index.php, I am loading another php page(secondary.php). Now the css in reset.css is not getting applied on secondary.php (Now sure why this is happening.)
I have two Questions here :
1.) Why secondry.php is not taking the reset.css styles.
2.) To resolve the issue, Is it OK for me to place another but similar reset.css file in secondary.php ?
Any help will be highly useful.

Hi evrybody ‘im new to codeigniter and to MVC model as well,
I need help to get my project working couse i’ve got this issues:
1) i’m in the main page and i clik on the link of the “about” page, the css file does not seems to load.
and even if i include the css in the head section the images are still missing in the page.
2) in the configure file i’ve set the
$config[‘base_url’] = ‘’;
$config[‘index_page’] = ‘index.php’;
now if i’m in the about page and i clik again on the about link the link it’s missing becouse i set the link in the menu:

and so the index.php it’s loaded twice: localhost/mywebsite/index.php/index.php/about.
i could set the condition to cut the link if i’m in the page i need but i would like to know if there is a more polite solution
and hope that the solution it’s not to put my hands in to the mod_rewrite .
I’ll like codeigniter because seems to be easy to configure and so really portable.

Even i a newbie to CodeIgniter. I was facing the css problem. I added the css files in separate folder located at the root directory. I solved the problem by adding $this->load->helper('url'); in the controller function of the page.
You need to set $config['base_url'] in config.php to http://www.yourdomain.com and provide full path when linking css to the page like this :
<link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="<?php echo base_url();?>resources/css/file.css">
just add
> <?php echo base_url();?>
before or or URL link
> (example: <script src="<?php echo
> base_url();?>assets/js/jquery-1.7.1.min.js"></script>)
to load the link to all page and separate the header and footer in separate file which could help you a lot minimize the page content.
I'm new to programming. I want to fetch the css saved in DB and load in a php file. I'm using CodeIgniter. After loading the css, I want to link to it as an external css. I tried following, but it is not working.

You can use template library for codeigniter.
It provides more flexibility for handling views, loading js and css files.
Also it provides an option for splitting the views into sections like header, content, footer etc. The template library link i have provided above is easy to use and integrate.
It also has very good documentation.
In the above template library the css and js files can be loaded as follows (write below code in controller) -
For loading css files -
$this->template->add_css('path to css file');
For loading js files -
$this->template->add_js('path to js file');

Well the name of your controller action is loadDefaultCSS, so I would expect the URL for the generated stylesheet to be: (assuming your controller is indeed called User)
base_url()."user/loadDefaultCSS"
Does this work?:

I can see a few strange things in your code:
You should not use .php in your CI URLS
How can your view possibly get the style of the user when you're not passing it to the view from your controller?
How do you know what user it concerns? I assume you have not posted all your code?
What happens if you actually open the stylesheet URL that you generate? Does it throw a 404? A CI error?
The Best way to load css is to pass css paths from controller to view and render it from view in large application we its not good practice to load everything in header it can cause performance issue

I'm new to PHP and I'm having a problem when trying to link my CSS files using include.
Basically I need my files to link back to a certain directory no matter how far down the file is. I have tried using

include $_SERVER['DOCUMENT_ROOT'] . '/sysprogs/required/header.html';
?>
But header.html contains the links to my css files so the directory it ends up looking for the css files in is
http://localhost/SysProgs/software/CSS/style.css
instead of where I want it to go to which is
http://localhost/SysProgs/required/CSS/style.css

I would definitely not use <base>. I've run into many problems with this before. If you use <base>, ALL of your links will become relative to that base value.
Instead, I would recommend setting PHP constants for common directories. For example:
PHP Code:

One Idea
Use the full URL in header.html. This will be unambiguous and robust.

Use the <base> header tag. This allows you to specify a base URL for links, including CSS, and may require the least work in the short term (see note below).

I like to define both an absolute path and a webroot in a central place in your application:

you can then "absolutize" the correct links like so:
<?php echo APP_WEBROOT; ?>/software/CSS/style.css
I prefer this
over <base> because that tag creates confusion and makes code harder to maintain in the long run
over using absolute paths /software/CSS/style.css because those make you unable to install your application in a subdirectory of your choice: You will always be bound to the root directory.
I run into this problem a lot when designing sites. When I have custom CMS, I use the following:
$basedir = "root_directory/";
$basedirPHP = $_SERVER['DOCUMENT_ROOT'].$basedir;
$basedirHTML = "http://".$_SERVER['SERVER_NAME'].$basedir;
I define $basedir so I can move the site to different subdirectories in the server without any effort. The $basedirPHP and $basedirHTML are so I can call on files either with php, or like you mentioned, when linking CSS, JS, etc.
If you're on wordpress, just use the good ol' bloginfo('template_directory'); to do the same in template files.
The first thing for you to understand, is your question has nothing PHP related. It is as simple as just filenames in your HTML questuon. Without PHP it will remain the same. Just use absolute path to your CSS file
And another thing to think of: consider to accept some questions.
