I am a fresher in PHP, I am trying to create a form which will be auto filled from the MySQL database. The form is getting created, and populated from the database data. But, in case the data contains a space in between, the characters after the space are not getting displayed.
The php page:
<html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">
<head>
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" />
<title>Untitled Document</title>
</head>
<body>
<?php
// Check if we have parameters employeeId being passed to the script through the URL
if (isset($_GET["employeeId"])) {
$employeeId = $_GET["employeeId"];
//=============Data Display=================
$con=mysqli_connect("localhost","root","","employee_db");
// Check connection
if (mysqli_connect_errno())
{
echo "Failed to connect to MySQL: " . mysqli_connect_error();
}
$result = mysqli_query($con,"SELECT `employee_id` , `employee_name` , `employee_email` , `employee_mobile` , `employee_address`
FROM `employee_details`
WHERE `employee_id` =$employeeId");
echo "<h2>Edit Employee</h2><br/>
<form name='myForm' action='' onSubmit='return validateForm()' method='post'>";
while($row = mysqli_fetch_array($result))
{
echo "Employee Id: ". $row['employee_id'] ."<br/>";
echo "Employee Name: <input type='text' name='EmployeeName' value=". $row['employee_name'] ."><br/>";
echo "Employee Email: <input type='text' name='EmployeeEmail' value=". $row['employee_email'] ."><br/>";
echo "Employee Mobile: <input type='text' name='EmployeeMobile' value=". $row['employee_mobile'] ."><br/>";
echo "Employee Address: <Input type='text' name = 'product_name5' value=".$row['employee_address']."><br/>";
}
mysqli_close($con);
//=============Data Display=================
}
?>
</body>
</html>
Where am I going wrong? What should I do to get all the data including spaces in the textboxes?
Value attribute of inputs should be with quotes too:
value='" . $value . "'
In your case:
echo "Employee Name: <input type='text' name='EmployeeName' value='". $row['employee_name'] ."'><br/>";
echo "Employee Email: <input type='text' name='EmployeeEmail' value='". $row['employee_email'] ."'><br/>";
echo "Employee Mobile: <input type='text' name='EmployeeMobile' value='". $row['employee_mobile'] ."'><br/>";
echo "Employee Address: <Input type='text' name = 'product_name5' value='".$row['employee_address']."'><br/>";
If you are going to create link fetch from database like download link
use this type code
$result = mysqli_query($con,$sql);
//echo $ip."<br />";REGEXP
//echo $name."<br />";
echo "<table border=2px style='border-radius=20px;' align=center><tr>
<th>Document ID</th>
<th>Document Name Type</th>
<th>Download Documents</th>
</tr>";//<th>Project Document Type</th>
while($row = mysqli_fetch_array($result)) {
$path1=$row['FOLDERNAME'] .'/'. $row['FILENAME'] .'.'. $row['DOCTYPE'];
$path=str_replace(" ", '%20', $path1);
echo "<tr>";
echo "<td>" . $row['DocID'] . "</td>";
// echo "<td>" . $row['PROJDOCTYPE'] . "</td>";Thank you. Your Apple ID is now ready for use.
echo "<td>" . $row['DOCNAME'] . "</td>";
echo '<td><a href=Tender/'.$path.'>'.$row['DOCNAME'].'</a></td>';
echo "</tr>";
}
echo "</table>";
mysqli_close($con);

I have code that search for my field name(familycode) then displays a table. I have the code enclosed in the table to update table and database.
My issue - after updating - My display information does't update and won't refresh or ever show correct data from mysql database. Database is updated.
I am new and this is first post. I tried many many different ways no luck. I would appreciate some thoughts!! Thank you!

Welcome Don T to stackoverflow! It seems like your echoing onto the page in an instance, recall that when you Echo something out, it doesn't change when it changes inside your database because you aren't making the call again, its on the same page. To fix this, you need to use Javascript + Ajax, I recommend picking up jQuery and harnessing its basics for POST'ing and GET'ing data from a PHP page.
Here is the link for jQuery Ajax: http://api.jquery.com/jquery.ajax/
Simple example using jQuery ajax:
$.ajax({
url: 'PHP SCRIPT PAGE URL',
method: 'POST', // Your sending data, use POST
data: 'Your Data!', // This can be also be a form object
success: function(response) { // Response is your PHP scripts answer to this request.
console.log(response); // You may Echo or use JSON format as a response.
} // If you use JSON, add dataType: 'JSON' in the ajax call to the left.
})
Remember if this answer has helped you resolve your issue, select it as the Answer!
Thanks!
What I am trying to do is have a PHP page display the contents of a MySQL database and and each line it displays, it give me a delete button so I can delete individual rows. I have the code kind of working. The code delete the lines of code, but not the one I select, instead it deletes the last line and not the one I tell it to delete.
Here is a screenshot, I know it does not look pretty, I was going to clean it up after I get the code working.
HTML:
<?php
// Delete php code
if(isset($_POST['delete_series']))
{
// here comes your delete query: use $_POST['deleteItem'] as your id
$delete = $_POST['delete_series'];
$delete_sql = "DELETE FROM `Dropdown_Series` where `id` = '$delete'";
if(mysql_query($delete_sql, $conn))
{
echo "Row Deleted </br>";
echo "$delete";
};
}
//Insert Code
if(isset($_POST['add_series']))
{
$insert_sql = "INSERT INTO dropdown_series (series) VALUES ('$_POST[add_series]' )";
if(!mysql_query($insert_sql, $conn))
{
die ('Error: ' . mysql_error());
}
echo "Series Added <br><br>";
}
?>
<br />
<h1>Add New Series Title</h1>
<h3>Add New: </h3><br />
<form name = action="add_series.php" method="POST">
<input type = "text" name = "add_series" required/><br /><br />
<input type ="submit" name="submit" value="Add">
</form>
<h3>Current Series: </h3><br />
<?php
//Delete button on each result of the rows
$query = mysql_query("SELECT id, series FROM Dropdown_Series"); // Run your query
// Loop through the query results, outputing the options one by one
echo "<form action='' method='POST'>";
while ($row = mysql_fetch_array($query))
{
echo $row['series'] . " ";
echo $row['id'];
echo "<input type='hidden' name='delete_series' value=' " . $row['id'] . "' />";
echo "<input type='submit' name='submit' value='Delete'>";
//echo $row['series'] . " ". $row['id'] . "<input type='submit' value='delete'>";
echo "<br />";
}
echo "</form>";
?>
Your loop will result in multiple delete_series inputs - within the same form.
You could create separat forms for each option:
while ($row = mysql_fetch_array($query))
{
echo "<form action='' method='POST'>";
// ...
echo "<input type='hidden' name='delete_series' value=' " . $row['id'] . "' />";
echo "<input type='submit' name='submit' value='Delete'>";
// ...
echo "</form>";
}
I believe that a very quick answer would be
while ($row = mysql_fetch_array($query))
{
echo "<form action='' method='POST'>";
echo $row['series'] . " ";
echo $row['id'];
echo "<input type='hidden' name='delete_series' value=' " . $row['id'] . "' />";
echo "<input type='submit' name='submit' value='Delete'>";
//echo $row['series'] . " ". $row['id'] . "<input type='submit' value='delete'>";
echo "<br />";
echo "</form>";
}
If I were you I would prefer injecting some javascript in the logic, and perform the Delete request using an ajax call.
you can refer to this tutorial to get more understanding of what I am refering to https://scotch.io/tutorials/submitting-ajax-forms-with-jquery
<?php
$con = mysql_connect("localhost","root");
if (!$con)
{

$result = mysql_query("SELECT * FROM pleasework ORDER BY ID");
$row = mysql_fetch_array($result);
}

echo "Change Successful<br>" ;
header("Location: databse.php");
mysql_close($con);
}
else {}
?>
This is my php file.
while($row = mysql_fetch_array($result))
{
echo "<TR>";
echo "<TD>" . $row['ID'] ."</TD>";
echo "<TD>" . $row['Name'] . " </TD>";
echo "<TD>" . $row['Cause'] . " </TD>";
echo "<TD>" . $row['Symptom']. " </TD>";
echo "<TD>" . $row['Gene_affected'] . " </TD>";
echo "<TD><font color='red'>Delete row</font> </TD>";
echo "<TD><font color='red'>modify</font> </TD>";
echo "</TR>";
}
And this is the section which has a modify button that links to the edit.php file. The error here is that is doesnt bring over the values in the table to the editing page and then submitting the form doesnt work too. help please
Your code appears a bit confused.
First of all, why to put the modify routine after output the form? Especially since after modify you send the header function, that fails if previously there are some output.
Note also a typo: you forgot to properly open the php tag in the form declaration. Change-it in this way:
<form action="<?php echo $_SERVER['PHP_SELF'];?>" id="form2" method="post" name="form2">
The main problem is that you check if the $_POST[submit] if set, but this is not set, due to the absence of attribute name.
Change it in this way:
<input type="submit" name="submit" onclick="clicked(event)" />
Now your script should work (I don't have tested the sql).
Please also note that your UPDATE routine is redundant: you can reduce the 4 statement to only one in this way:
$result = mysql_query
(
"UPDATE pleasework SET Name='{$_POST[New]}', Cause='{$_POST[New1]}', Symptom='{$_POST[New2]}', Gene_affected='{$_POST[New3]}' WHERE ID={$_POST[id]}"
);
About PHP Original MySQL API:
This extension is deprecated as of PHP 5.5.0, and has been removed as of PHP 7.0.0
NOTE: mysql_* deprecated, so try to use PDO or mysqli_*.
Simple way:
<?php
if(isset($_POST['submit'])){
$result = mysql_query("UPDATE pleasework
SET Name='".$_POST['New']."',
Cause='".$_POST['New1']."',
Symptom='".$_POST['New2']."',
Gene_affected='".$_POST['New3']."'
WHERE ID=".$_POST['id'].");
if($result ){
echo "Change Successful<br>" ;
header("Location: databse.php");
}
mysql_close($con);
}
YOUR PHP:
while($row = mysql_fetch_array($result))
{ $spaces = " ";
echo "<TR>";
echo "<TD>" . $row['ID'] ."</TD>";
echo "<TD>" . $row['Name'] . $spaces."</TD>";
echo "<TD>" . $row['Cause'] . $spaces."</TD>";
echo "<TD>" . $row['Symptom']. $spaces."</TD>";
echo "<TD>" . $row['Gene_affected'] . $spaces."</TD>";
echo "<TD><a href='delete.php?id=".$row['ID'] ."'>";
echo "<font color='red'>Delete row</font></a>".$spaces."</TD>";
echo "<TD><a href='edit.php?id=" . $row['ID'] ."'>";
echo "<font color='red'>modify</font></a>".$spaces."</TD>";
echo "</TR>";
}
I decided to make my database with an active hyperlink so when I find a record I click on an email address and and email is opened. BUT I have a problem with update, When I want to make a correction to the entry and when I press update the email disappears and I get:
Notice: Undefined index: Mail in /Applications/XAMPP/xamppfiles/htdocs/robocze/mydata_dodaj_test_1.php on line 36
I can add records but I can't update...
Can You please help me, thank You

As error stated undefined index in your update statement
$UpdateQuery = "UPDATE Klienci SET id='$_POST[id]', Firma='$_POST[Firma]', Mail='$_POST[Mail]', Data='$_POST[Data]', Konsultant='$_POST[Konsultant]' WHERE id='$_POST[hidden]'";
you are accessing $_POST[Mail] which is no where in your form.
I currently have these PHP pages which lets me add a record to a database. (in this case its members) It works perfectly in the sense that I can ADD, DELETE and VIEW. But Im not sure how to get the edit(or UPDATE functionality working.
Here is my db connection Code:
<?php
// Server Info
$server = 'localhost';
$username = 'root';
$password = '';
$database = 'gamgam';
// Connect to database
$connection = new mysqli($server, $username, $password, $database);
?>
Here is my Add Code:
<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
<head><title>Insert Users</title></head>
<body>
<h2>Insert User Confirmation</h2>
<form action="<?php $_SERVER['PHP_SELF']?>" method="post"/> <br>
<?php
require_once('connection.php');
echo "<label for='memberID' >Member ID:</label>";
echo "<input type='text' name='memberID' id='memberID' />";
echo "<br /><br />";
echo "<label for='username' >Username:</label>";
echo "<input type='text' name='username' id='username' />";
echo "<br /><br />";
echo "<label for='password' >Password:</label>";
echo "<input type='password' name='password' id='password' />";
echo "<br /><br />";
echo "<label for='fName' >Firstname:</label>";
echo "<input type='text' name='fName' id='fName' />";

</form>
</section>
<p><a href='login.php'>Login</a></p>
<?php

$email = $_POST['email'];
$query = "INSERT INTO `members`

echo 'Address: '.$address.'<br />';
echo 'Email: '.$email.'<br />';
} else {
echo '<p>The data was not entered into the database this time.</p>';
}
}
?>
</body>
</html>
Here is my View Code:
<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/strict.dtd">
<html>
<head>
<title>View Records</title>

// connect to the database
include('connection.php');
// get results from database
$result = mysqli_query($connection, "SELECT * FROM members")
or die(mysqli_error());
// loop through results of database query, displaying them in the table
while($row = mysqli_fetch_array( $result )) {
// echo out the contents of each row into a table

echo '<td>Delete</td>';
echo "</tr>";
}
// close table>
echo "</table>";
?>
<p>Add a new record</p>
</body>
</html>
And here is the Delete Code:
<?php
// Connect to the database
include('connection.php');
// Confirm that the 'code' variable has been set
if (isset($_GET['MemberID']))
{
// Get the 'MemberID' variable from the URL
$MemberID = $_GET['MemberID'];
// Delete record from database
if ($stmt = $connection->prepare("DELETE FROM members WHERE MemberID = ? LIMIT 1")) {
$stmt->bind_param("i",$MemberID);
$stmt->execute();
$stmt->close();
} else {
echo "ERROR: could not prepare SQL statement.";
}
$connection->close();
// Redirect user after delete is successful
header("Location: view.php");
} else {
// If the 'code' variable isn't set, redirect the user
header("Location: view.php");
}
?>
I have gone through many basic php form templates online trying to incorporate what they have done to achieve results but have not had any success. What code needs to be written for my website to have the functionality to edit records already created in the database without going through phpmyadmin. Any help is apreciated.
Edit will be just just like Add, but you need to read the record first and populate the field values.
Start with the code from add and do something like:
<?php $MemberID = (int) $_GET['MemberID']; ?>
<form action="<?php $_SERVER['PHP_SELF']?>" method="post"/> <br>
<input type="hidden" name="MemberID" value="<?php echo $MemberID; ?>"
<?php
require_once('connection.php');
$result = mysqli_query($connection, "SELECT * FROM members where MemberID = $MemberID") or die(mysqli_error());
// loop through results of database query, displaying them in the table
$row = mysqli_fetch_assoc($result);
extract($row);
echo "<label for='memberID' >Member ID:</label>";
echo "$memberID"; // member ID should not be editable
echo "<br /><br />";
echo "<label for='username' >Username:</label>";
echo "<input type='text' name='username' id='username' value="$username" />";
echo "<br /><br />";
The PHP code will have a query like
`UPDATE `members` SET `username` = '$username' ... WHERE `MemberID` = '$MemberID'"
