Using PHP write an anagram function? - php

Using PHP write an anagram function? It should be handling different phrases and return boolean result.
Usage:
$pharse1 = 'ball';
$pharse2 = 'lbal';
if(is_anagram($pharse1,$pharse2)){
echo $pharse1 .' & '. $pharse2 . ' are anagram';
}else{
echo $pharse1 .' & '. $pharse2 . ' not anagram';
}

There's simpler way
function is_anagram($a, $b) {
return(count_chars($a, 1) == count_chars($b, 1));
}
example:
$a = 'argentino';
$b = 'ignorante';
echo is_anagram($a,$b); // output: 1
$a = 'batman';
$b = 'barman';
echo is_anagram($a,$b); // output (empty):

function is_anagram($pharse1,$pharse2){
$status = false;
if($pharse1 && $pharse2){
$pharse1=strtolower(str_replace(" ","", $pharse1));
$pharse2=strtolower(str_replace(" ","", $pharse2));
$pharse1 = str_split($pharse1);
$pharse2 = str_split($pharse2);
sort($pharse1);
sort($pharse2);
if($pharse1 === $pharse2){
$status = true;
}
}
return $status;
}

function check_anagram($str1, $str2) {
if (count_chars($str1, 1) == count_chars($str2, 1)) {
return "This '" . $str1 . "', '" . $str2 . "' are Anagram";
}
else {
return "This two strings are not anagram";
}
}
ECHO check_anagram('education', 'ducatione');

I don't see any answers which have addressed the fact that capital letters are different characters than lowercase to count_chars()
if (isAnagram('Polo','pool')) {
print "Is anagram";
} else {
print "This is not an anagram";
}
function isAnagram($string1, $string2)
{
// quick check, eliminate obvious mismatches quickly
if (strlen($string1) != strlen($string2)) {
return false;
}
// Handle uppercase to lowercase comparisons
$array1 = count_chars(strtolower($string1));
$array2 = count_chars(strtolower($string2));
// Check if
if (!empty(array_diff_assoc($array2, $array1))) {
return false;
}
if (!empty(array_diff_assoc($array1, $array2))) {
return false;
}
return true;
}

here is my variant :
public function is_anagram($wrd_1, $wrd_2)
{
$wrd_1 = str_split ( strtolower ( utf8_encode($wrd_1) ) );
$wrd_2 = str_split( strtolower ( utf8_encode($wrd_2) ) );
if ( count($wrd_1)!= count($wrd_2) ) return false;
if ( count( array_diff ( $wrd_1 ,$wrd_2) ) > 0 ) return false;
return true;
}

Heheh little large but work as well :)
public static function areStringsAnagrams($a, $b)
{
//throw new Exception('Waiting to be implemented.');
$a = str_split($a);
$test = array();
$compare = array();
foreach ($a as $key) {
if (!in_array($key, $test)) {
array_push($test, $key);
$compare[$key] = 1;
} else {
$compare[$key] += 1;
}
}
foreach ($compare as $key => $value) {
if ($value !== substr_count($b, $key)) {
return false;
}
}
return true;
}

in_array returns false on same characters, single character string matching

function make_ascii($str) {
$special = array('ľ','š','č','ť','ž','ý','á','í','é','ú','ä','ô','ň','ě');
$ascii = array('l','s','c','t','z','y','a','i','e','u','a','o','n','e');
$str = str_split($str);
foreach ($str as $k => $c) {
if(ctype_upper($c)) {
$u = true;
$c = strtolower($c);
} else {
$u = false;
}
if(in_array($c, $special, false)) {
$c = $ascii[array_search($c, $special)];
}
if($u) {
$c = strtoupper($c);
}
$str[$k] = $c;
}
return join($str);
}
In this function, even if I feed characters from $special array the in_array() returns false every time, if I would var_dump() on regular text I try to parse, the output will be just bool(false) with no mach, even if I copy paste the character from source to array. Also I'm looking for way to make this character replacement work.
As str_splitwill not work for multibyte you have to use mb_to perform multibyte string operation
function make_ascii($str) {
//return $str;
$special = array('ľ','š','č','ť','ž','ý','á','í','é','ú','ä','ô','ň','ě');
$ascii = array('l','s','c','t','z','y','a','i','e','u','a','o','n','e');
$str = array_map(function ($i) use ($str) {
return mb_substr($str, $i, 1);
}, range(0, mb_strlen($str) -1));
foreach ($str as $k => $c) {
if(ctype_upper($c)) {
$u = true;
$c = strtolower($c);
} else {
$u = false;
}
// print_r($c);
if(in_array($c, $special)) {
$c = $ascii[array_search($c, $special)];
}
if($u) {
$c = strtoupper($c);
}
$str[$k] = $c;
}
return join($str);
}
var_dump(make_ascii('áé'));
DEMO
If issue with uppercase letters you have to change functions to mb_strtoupper and mb_strtolower. Also ctype_upper will not work so change it also
function make_ascii($str) {
//return $str;
$special = array('ľ','š','č','ť','ž','ý','á','í','é','ú','ä','ô','ň','ě');
$ascii = array('l','s','c','t','z','y','a','i','e','u','a','o','n','e');
$str = array_map(function ($i) use ($str) {
return mb_substr($str, $i, 1);
}, range(0, mb_strlen($str) -1));
foreach ($str as $k => $c) {
if( mb_strtoupper($c, "UTF-8") == $c) {
$u = true;
$c = mb_strtolower($c);
} else {
$u = false;
}
// print_r($c);
if(in_array($c, $special)) {
$c = $ascii[array_search($c, $special)];
}
if($u) {
$c = mb_strtoupper($c);
}
$str[$k] = $c;
}
return join($str);
}
$str = "ľÁľa ýellow";
var_dump(make_ascii($str));
DEMO
As I mentioned str_split can't handle multi-byte strings. Don't believe me? Have a look.
At any rate here's a version that can split multibyte strings:
function make_ascii($str) {
$special = array('ľ','š','č','ť','ž','ý','á','í','é','ú','ä','ô','ň','ě');
$ascii = array('l','s','c','t','z','y','a','i','e','u','a','o','n','e');
$str = preg_split("//u",$str);
foreach ($str as $k => $c) {
if(ctype_upper($c)) {
$u = true;
$c = mb_strtolower($c);
} else {
$u = false;
}
if(in_array($c, $special, false)) {
$c = $ascii[array_search($c, $special)];
}
if($u) {
$c = mb_strtoupper($c);
}
$str[$k] = $c;
}
return join($str);
}
$str = "ľaľa ýellow";
print_r(make_ascii($str));
Prints:
lala yellow

My cookie class keeps returning null when getting the cookie

I am creating my own custom cookie class and I can not seem to figure out what I am doing wrong. Here is my cookie class:

I set a test cookie for example app('cookie')->set('test', 'hello', 0);
sure enough it created the cookie like expected. So the cookie reads string(hello)
When I try to echo it, it echos the default value instead of the actual variable, so app('cookie')->get('test', 'test'); returns test
The get function should check if the cookie exists with isset($_COOKIE[$cookieName]) and then it should trim the extra ) with rtrim($_COOKIE[$cookieName], ')') then it should grab the first character in the string with mb_substr($_COOKIE[$cookieName], 0, 1) the 0 starts at the beginning and the 1 grabs only the first character.
After it compares it with the default (a, b, i, f, s) for example if it starts with an s its a string by default, if it was i it was sent as an int by default, etc. etc.
If they all come up as false it checks to see if it was sent as null if so it return null else it returns the default value passed.
The equals function is the same as $var1 == $var2 it is timing attack safe.
so it keeps returning the default value which is null, any help would be helpful thanks in advance.
Lol i feel real stupid i put 0 as the third argument thinking it will tell the cookie to expire when the browser session closes, but it did (time() + 0) which does not equal 0. so as it was setting the cookie it expired upon creation. So i did time() - (time() * 2). i achieved the goal i wanted.

Converting string to array address

I have dynamically generated array $array[], that could be multidimensional and I have a function that return string, which contains address in array (existing one). My question is: how to create or convert string $a = 'array[1]' to address $array[1]?
Example:
$array = [1,2,3,4];
$string = 'array[2]';
function magic($array, $string){
//some magic happens
return $result;
$result = magic($array, $string);
echo $result;
// and 3 is displayed;
Is there a function already to do this? Is it possible to do this?
This code is a modification of ResponseBag::get() from the wonderful HttpFoundation project:
function magic($array, $path, $default = null)
{
if (false === $pos = strpos($path, '[')) {
return $array;
}
$value = $array;
$currentKey = null;
for ($i = $pos, $c = strlen($path); $i < $c; $i++) {
$char = $path[$i];
if ('[' === $char) {
if (null !== $currentKey) {
throw new \InvalidArgumentException(sprintf('Malformed path. Unexpected "[" at position %d.', $i));
}
$currentKey = '';
} elseif (']' === $char) {
if (null === $currentKey) {
throw new \InvalidArgumentException(sprintf('Malformed path. Unexpected "]" at position %d.', $i));
}
if (!is_array($value) || !array_key_exists($currentKey, $value)) {
return $default;
}
$value = $value[$currentKey];
$currentKey = null;
} else {
if (null === $currentKey) {
throw new \InvalidArgumentException(sprintf('Malformed path. Unexpected "%s" at position %d.', $char, $i));
}
$currentKey .= $char;
}
}
if (null !== $currentKey) {
throw new \InvalidArgumentException(sprintf('Malformed path. Path must end with "]".'));
}
return $value;
}
echo magic([1,2,3,4], 'array[2]'); // 3
It can be modified to return a reference as well, just sprinkle it with some ampersands :)

php imap - get body and make plain text

I am using the PHP imap function to get emails from a POP3 mailbox and insert the data into a MySQL database.
Here is the PHP code:
$inbox = imap_open($hostname,$username,$password) or die('Cannot connect: ' . imap_last_error());
$emails = imap_search($inbox,'ALL');
if($emails)
{
$output = '';
rsort($emails);
foreach($emails as $email_number)
{
$header=imap_headerinfo($inbox,$email_number);
$from = $header->from[0]->mailbox . "#" . $header->from[0]->host;
$toaddress=$header->toaddress;
$replyto=$header->reply_to[0]->mailbox."#".$header->reply_to[0]->host;
$datetime=date("Y-m-d H:i:s",$header->udate);
$subject=$header->subject;
//remove the " from the $toaddress
$toaddress = str_replace('"','',$toaddress);
echo '<strong>To:</strong> '.$toaddress.'<br>';
echo '<strong>From:</strong> '.$from.'<br>';
echo '<strong>Subject:</strong> '.$subject.'<br>';
//get message body
$message = (imap_fetchbody($inbox,$email_number,1.1));
if($message == '')
{
$message = (imap_fetchbody($inbox,$email_number,1));
}
}
It works fine, however on some emails in the body I get = in between words, or =20 in between words. And other times the emails will just be blank even though they are not blank when sent.
This only happens when coming from certain emails.
How can I get round this and just make the email completely plain text?
This happens because the emails are normally Quoted-printable encoded. The = is a soft line break and =20 is a white space. I think, you could use quoted_printable_decode() on the message so it shows correctly. About the blank emails, I don't know, I would need more details.
Basically:
//get message body
$message = quoted_printable_decode(imap_fetchbody($inbox,$email_number,1.1));
$data = imap_fetchbody($this->imapStream, $Part->uid, $Part->path, FT_UID | FT_PEEK);
if ($Part->format === 'quoted-printable' && $data) {
$data = quoted_printable_decode($data);
}
This is required for mails with
Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable
But for mails with
Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8bit
simply imap_fetchbody is enough.
Above code was taken from a cake-php component created for fetching mails from mail boxes throgh IMAP.
I made an entire class some years ago, and I'm still using it when I need to get contents from emails. It will help you fetch all email bodies (sometimes you have html and plain text) in a readable format, and get all attached files, just ready to be saved somewhere or sent to a website user.
It is not really optimized so on a big mailbox you may have troubles; but the purpose of this class was to access emails in a readable format to put them on a widget of a website. I let you play with the sample below to get how it works.

Regarding the blank emails, check the encoding of the mail.
If it is a binary encoded mail then you will get blank mails when you try to insert them into a mysql text field.
Try shifting every mail to UTF-8 and then insert it
iconv(mb_detect_encoding($mail_content, mb_detect_order(), true), "UTF-8", $mail_content);
function getmsg($mbox,$mid) {
// input $mbox = IMAP stream, $mid = message id
// output all the following:
global $charset,$htmlmsg,$plainmsg,$attachments;
$htmlmsg = $plainmsg = $charset = '';
$attachments = array();
// HEADER
$h = imap_header($mbox,$mid);
// add code here to get date, from, to, cc, subject...
// BODY
$s = imap_fetchstructure($mbox,$mid);
if (!$s->parts) // simple
getpart($mbox,$mid,$s,0); // pass 0 as part-number
else { // multipart: cycle through each part
foreach ($s->parts as $partno0=>$p)
getpart($mbox,$mid,$p,$partno0+1);
}
}
function getpart($mbox,$mid,$p,$partno) {

Reference (First user contributed note): http://php.net/manual/en/function.imap-fetchstructure.php
I tried all this answers, but neither one worked for me. Then I hit first user contributed note on this PHP page:
http://php.net/manual/en/function.imap-fetchstructure.php
and this works for all my cases. Quite old answer btw.

Check if key exists in $_SESSION by building index string

I need to check if a key exists and return its value if it does.
Key can be an array with subkeys or endkey with a value.
$_SESSION['mainKey']['testkey'] = 'value';
var_dump(doesKeyExist('testkey'));
function doesKeyExist($where) {
$parts = explode('/',$where);
$str = '';
for($i = 0,$len = count($parts);$i<$len;$i++) {
$str .= '[\''. $parts[$i] .'\']';
}
$keycheck = '$_SESSION[\'mainKey\']' . $str;
if (isset(${$keycheck})) {
return ${$keycheck};
}
// isset($keycheck) = true, as its non-empty. actual content is not checked
// isset(${$keycheck}) = false, but should be true. ${$var} forces a evaluate content
// isset($_SESSION['mainKey']['testkey']) = true
}
Using PHP 5.3.3.
Instead of building the string, just check if the key exists within your loop.
For instance:
function doesKeyExist($where) {
$parts = explode('/',$where);
$currentPart = $_SESSION['mainKey'];
foreach($parts as $part) {
if (!isset($currentPart[$part])) {
return false;
}
$currentPart = $currentPart[$part];
}
return true;
}
function getByKeys($keys, $array) {
$value = $array;
foreach (explode('/', $keys) as $key) {
if (isset($value[$key])) {
$value = $value[$key];
} else {
return null;
}
}
return $value;
}
Perhaps I'm misunderstanding the question, but this would appear to be the simplest way of doing it:
function getKey($arr, $key) {
if (array_key_exists($key, $arr)) {
return $arr[$key];
} else {
return false;
}
}
$value = getKey($_SESSION['mainKey'], 'testkey');
You should use $$keycheck, not ${$keycheck}.
The last notation is only if you use the variable inside a string (e.g. "${$keycheck}")
See http://php.net/manual/en/language.variables.variable.php for more details about variable variables
You might want to use the eval() php function for this.
function doesKeyExist($where) {
$parts = explode('/',$where);
$str = '';
for($i = 0,$len = count($parts);$i<$len;$i++) {
$str .= '["'. $parts[$i] .'"]';
}
eval('$keycheck = $_SESSION["mainKey"]' . $str . ';');
if (isset($keycheck)) {
return $keycheck;
}
}
