PHP file uploader (images) Not uploading certain images - php

Trying to upload certain images with PHP but it won't work
I have used the example from w3Schools to try and upload an image with a higher value for hight then width.
It's working fine on "normal" images (horizontal), but as I said I'm not getting it to work on vertical aligned images.
The script does not recognise the file at all I think.
The errormessage is : Undefined index on the line where this goes $_FILES["file"]["name"])
****THIS SCRIPT IS JUST FOR CHECKING THE FILE I KNOW IT DOESENT UPLOAD IT****
here is the image im trying to get PHP to check http://rubenringdal.net/img/testigjen.jpg
<html>
<head>
<title></title>
</head>
<body>
<form action="uploader.php" method="post" enctype="multipart/form-data">
<label for="file">Filename:</label>
<input type="file" name="file" id="file"><br>
<input type="submit" name="submit" value="Submit">
</form>
</body>
</html>
<?php
$allowedExts = array("gif", "jpeg", "jpg", "png");
$temp = explode(".", $_FILES["file"]["name"]);
$extension = end($temp);
if ((($_FILES["file"]["type"] == "image/gif")
|| ($_FILES["file"]["type"] == "image/jpeg")
|| ($_FILES["file"]["type"] == "image/jpg")
|| ($_FILES["file"]["type"] == "image/pjpeg")
|| ($_FILES["file"]["type"] == "image/x-png")
|| ($_FILES["file"]["type"] == "image/png"))
&& ($_FILES["file"]["size"] < 20000)
&& in_array($extension, $allowedExts))
{
if ($_FILES["file"]["error"] > 0)
{
echo "Error: " . $_FILES["file"]["error"] . "<br>";
}
else
{
echo "Upload: " . $_FILES["file"]["name"] . "<br>";
echo "Type: " . $_FILES["file"]["type"] . "<br>";
echo "Size: " . ($_FILES["file"]["size"] / 1024) . " kB<br>";
echo "Stored in: " . $_FILES["file"]["tmp_name"];
}
}
else
{
echo "Invalid file";
}
?>

If your image is large than what you are allowing, 20 kb, it will not work so change this to a greater value.
($_FILES["file"]["size"] < **20000**)
And you have to check if anything has been uploaded before you process it.
<?php
if(!empty($_FILES["file"]))//Check if its not empty
{
$allowedExts = array("gif", "jpeg", "jpg", "png");
$temp = explode(".", $_FILES["file"]["name"]);
$extension = end($temp);
if ((($_FILES["file"]["type"] == "image/gif")
|| ($_FILES["file"]["type"] == "image/jpeg")
|| ($_FILES["file"]["type"] == "image/jpg")
|| ($_FILES["file"]["type"] == "image/pjpeg")
|| ($_FILES["file"]["type"] == "image/x-png")
|| ($_FILES["file"]["type"] == "image/png"))
&& ($_FILES["file"]["size"] < 200000)
&& in_array($extension, $allowedExts))
{
if ($_FILES["file"]["error"] > 0)
{
echo "Error: " . $_FILES["file"]["error"] . "<br>";
}
else
{
echo "Upload: " . $_FILES["file"]["name"] . "<br>";
echo "Type: " . $_FILES["file"]["type"] . "<br>";
echo "Size: " . ($_FILES["file"]["size"] / 1024) . " kB<br>";
echo "Stored in: " . $_FILES["file"]["tmp_name"];
}
}
else
{
echo "Invalid file";
}
}
?>
<html>
<head>
<title></title>
</head>
<body>
<form action="uploader.php" method="post" enctype="multipart/form-data">
<label for="file">Filename:</label>
<input type="file" name="file" id="file"><br>
<input type="submit" name="submit" value="Submit">
</form>
</body>

PHP 405 not allowed

I have some issues with my webpage. I'm creating an app for Android which will can send image to http address. So I took an example from w3schools for upload script. The problem I have is that when I try to upload file from my computer (the app is not ready yet) I have an error 405 Not Allowed and some sign "nginx". Can you help me fix the problem?
Here is my page:
<html>
<body>
<form action="upload.php" method="post"
enctype="multipart/form-data">
<label for="file">Filename:</label>
<input type="file" name="file" id="file"><br>
<input type="submit" name="submit" value="Submit">
</form>
</body>
</html>
And the php script:
<?php
$allowedExts = array("gif", "jpeg", "jpg", "png");
$temp = explode(".", $_FILES["file"]["name"]);
$extension = end($temp);
if ((($_FILES["file"]["type"] == "image/gif")
|| ($_FILES["file"]["type"] == "image/jpeg")
|| ($_FILES["file"]["type"] == "image/jpg")
|| ($_FILES["file"]["type"] == "image/pjpeg")
|| ($_FILES["file"]["type"] == "image/x-png")
|| ($_FILES["file"]["type"] == "image/png"))
&& ($_FILES["file"]["size"] < 20000)
&& in_array($extension, $allowedExts)) {
if ($_FILES["file"]["error"] > 0) {
echo "Return Code: " . $_FILES["file"]["error"] . "<br>";
} else {
echo "Upload: " . $_FILES["file"]["name"] . "<br>";
echo "Type: " . $_FILES["file"]["type"] . "<br>";
echo "Size: " . ($_FILES["file"]["size"] / 1024) . " kB<br>";
echo "Temp file: " . $_FILES["file"]["tmp_name"] . "<br>";
if (file_exists("upload/" . $_FILES["file"]["name"])) {
echo $_FILES["file"]["name"] . " already exists. ";
} else {
move_uploaded_file($_FILES["file"]["tmp_name"],
"upload/" . $_FILES["file"]["name"]);
echo "Stored in: " . "upload/" . $_FILES["file"]["name"];
}
}
} else {
echo "Invalid file";
}
?>

How to store and display an image in MySQL database

I have a problem in storing and displaying image. The code doesn't work. I want to upload the image in the folder "img" and display it.
This is my code :
<html>
<body>
<form action="upload_file.php" method="post"
enctype="multipart/form-data">
<label for="file">Filename:</label>
<input type="file" name="image" ><br>
<input type="submit" name="submit" value="Submit">
</form>
</body>
</html>
upload_file.php
<?php
$allowedExts = array("gif", "jpeg", "jpg", "png");
$temp = explode(".", $_FILES["file"]["name"]);
$extension = end($temp);
if ((($_FILES["file"]["type"] == "image/gif")
|| ($_FILES["file"]["type"] == "image/jpeg")
|| ($_FILES["file"]["type"] == "image/jpg")
|| ($_FILES["file"]["type"] == "image/pjpeg")
|| ($_FILES["file"]["type"] == "image/x-png")
|| ($_FILES["file"]["type"] == "image/png"))
&& ($_FILES["file"]["size"] < 20000)
&& in_array($extension, $allowedExts)) {
if ($_FILES["file"]["error"] > 0) {
echo "Return Code: " . $_FILES["file"]["error"] . "<br>";
} else {
echo "Upload: " . $_FILES["file"]["name"] . "<br>";
echo "Type: " . $_FILES["file"]["type"] . "<br>";
echo "Size: " . ($_FILES["file"]["size"] / 1024) . " kB<br>";
echo "Temp file: " . $_FILES["file"]["tmp_name"] . "<br>";
if (file_exists("img/" . $_FILES["file"]["name"])) {
echo $_FILES["file"]["name"] . " already exists. ";
} else {
move_uploaded_file($_FILES["file"]["tmp_name"],
"img/" . $_FILES["file"]["name"]);
echo "Stored in: " . "img/" . $_FILES["file"]["name"];
}
}
} else {
echo "Invalid file";
}
?>
Well, you gave a different name for the file in the input file tag in your form.
Change this
<input type="file" name="image" ><br>
to this
<input type="file" name="file" ><br>
and it should work. Let me know if it doesn't.
You may also consider putting the contents in upload_file.php in an if-conditional to prevent it from execution on direct access as follows:
<?php
if(isset($_POST['submit'])) {
// Your code here
}

else
{
move_uploaded_file($_FILES["file"]["tmp_name"],
"upload/" . $_FILES["file"]["name"]);
echo "Stored in: " . "upload/" . $_FILES["file"]["name"];
}
}
}
else
{
echo "Invalid file";
}
chmod("upload", 0644);
?>
If it works on your local server, but not on production you need to make sure that the folder exists on the production server and that it can be written to by the user account that the PHP script is executing under.
I think you got this PHP script from this link of w3schools.com. This php script has two extra parentheses in if condition. Remove these extra parentheses.
if (/*removed*/($_FILES["file"]["type"] == "image/gif")
|| ($_FILES["file"]["type"] == "image/jpeg")
|| ($_FILES["file"]["type"] == "image/jpg")
|| ($_FILES["file"]["type"] == "image/pjpeg")
|| ($_FILES["file"]["type"] == "image/png")
|| ($_FILES["file"]["type"] == "image/x-png")// removed
&& ($_FILES["file"]["size"] < 200000)
&& in_array($extension, $allowedExts))
It worked for me. Hope it will work for you also. I think you need more validation. You can use getimagesize() function to check width, height, MIME type, attr of the uploaded image.

Remove acents when uploading

Hi i have this code to upload files, and it works fine, but when i want to download files from the folder and they have acents the page doesn't download.
Example: /Prova%20de%20Aptidão%20Profissional.png
The requested URL /Prova de Aptidão Profissional.png was not found on this server.
<html>
<body>
<form action="upload_file.php" method="post"
enctype="multipart/form-data">
<label for="file">Filename:</label>
<input type="file" name="file" id="file"><br>
<input type="submit" name="submit" value="Submit">
</form>
</body>
</html>
<?php
$allowedExts = array("gif", "jpeg", "jpg", "png");
$temp = explode(".", $_FILES["file"]["name"]);
$extension = end($temp);
if ((($_FILES["file"]["type"] == "image/gif")
|| ($_FILES["file"]["type"] == "image/jpeg")
|| ($_FILES["file"]["type"] == "image/jpg")
|| ($_FILES["file"]["type"] == "image/pjpeg")
|| ($_FILES["file"]["type"] == "image/x-png")
|| ($_FILES["file"]["type"] == "image/png"))
&& in_array($extension, $allowedExts))
{
if ($_FILES["file"]["error"] > 0)
{
echo "Return Code: " . $_FILES["file"]["error"] . "<br>";
}
else
{
echo "Upload: " . $_FILES["file"]["name"] . "<br>";
echo "Type: " . $_FILES["file"]["type"] . "<br>";
echo "Size: " . ($_FILES["file"]["size"] / 1024) . " kB<br>";
echo "Temp file: " . $_FILES["file"]["tmp_name"] . "<br>";
if (file_exists("upload/" . $_FILES["file"]["name"]))
{
echo $_FILES["file"]["name"] . " already exists. ";
}
else
{
move_uploaded_file($_FILES["file"]["tmp_name"],
"upload/" . $_FILES["file"]["name"]);
echo "Stored in: " . "upload/" . $_FILES["file"]["name"];
}
}
}
else
{
echo "Invalid file";
}
?>
Try
urlencode($_FILES["file"]["name"]);
It would be better to filter out those characters & not putting spaces in folders tho.

If you host your application on linux, you should convert extension to lower case to match strings in $allowedExts, because linux is case sensitive (and not just linux).
Check this How to track execution time of each line / block of lines / methods in PHP? to be able to run script step by step and see, where the problem is.
