Unexpected HTML result using List view JQuery - php

My implementation is at : http://i.cs.hku.hk/~hsbashir/Project_Work/Listview/list_view.html
The first entry is when the list is hardcoded. Second and third ones are when they are extracted from the server using xmlhttp object. I am unable to understand why in the 2nd & 3rd list the formatting is different.

mysql_connect($host,$username,$password);
mysql_select_db($database) or die( "Unable to select database");
$query = "SELECT * FROM News_Info";
$result = mysql_query($query) or die( "Unable to execute query");

print "</a>";
print "</li>";
}
?>

The second and third are added after the widget has been initialized. You therefore have to re-enhance (refresh) the widget each time you make an update to it. And you can do that using the $(parent_of_new_content).listview('refresh'). In your case you would have to call the following:
$('#news_mesgs').listview( 'refresh' );
Just out of curiosity, is there any particular reason why you're using plain vanilla JS for your ajax call? If you were to use jQuery (recommended) your function would be:
lastRecord=0;
function loadNews(){
$('#sample').html( 'hello' );
$.get(
"queryNews.php?lastRecord="+lastRecord,
function( data ) {
$('#news_mesgs').append( data )
.listview( 'refresh' );
}
);
}
EDIT
Please note that in the above code .enhanceWithin() has been replaced with .listview('refresh')

PHP AJAX Update Not Working

The Idea
User will select examination date from dropdown list which is populated with data from the database.
After selecting the date, the system will display the list of examiners based on the selected date.
The user can now encode grades per student.
After encoding the grade, the user will click the 'save' button which the system will save to the database. (Multiple update)
This is the code where the user selects the exam date.
<?php
include '../configuration.php';
$queryselect = mysql_query("SELECT examdateno, examdate from tbl_examdate ORDER BY examdate DESC");

As I mentioned in my comment I'm not sure what exactly is not working for you but I can help you with a couple of things in what I'm guessing to be your homework project.
First, always wrap all jQuery actions that affect DOM elements or add EventListeners to DOM elements in a document.ready function. This function is triggered when all the HTML of the page has been loaded to the DOM. Adding an event listener or trying to ".hide()" and element before it is loaded to the DOM will fail. There is the long way of calling the document.ready function:
$(document).ready(function(){
.... Code to manipulate the DOM goes here ...
});
and the shorthand function call that does exactly the same thing:
$(function(){
.... Code to manipulate the DOM goes here ...
});
If you need to wait until all the additional resources (e.g. images) are loaded you can use:
$(window).load(function(){
.... Your code goes here ....
});
This function is triggered when all resources are loaded. So if you're looking to get the position of an element or size of an element that contains images it's best to wait until the images are loaded. otherwise the position or size may well change once the images are loaded.
So your jQuery block needs to wrapped like this:
<script>
$(function(){
$(".cross").hide();
$(".menu").hide();
$(".hamburger").click(function () {
$(".menu").slideToggle("slow", function () {
$(".hamburger").hide();
$(".cross").show();
});
});
$(".cross").click(function () {
$(".menu").slideToggle("slow", function () {
$(".cross").hide();
$(".hamburger").show();
});
});
});
</script>
And for goodness sake if your using jQuery NEVER type 'document.getElementById'. The jQuery equivalent is $('#id'). Note the '#' means ID where the '.' means CLASS. It's much shorter and it creates the element as a jQuery object which allows you to use all of jQuery's wonderful functions on it.
If you're using jQuery anyway. You should use it for AJAX. It's much easier. Here's your same showUser function done with jQuery including error handling for the ajax call:
function showUser(str) {
if (str == "") {
$("#txtHint").html("");
return;
} else {
$.ajax({
url: "encodeinterviewajax.php?q=" + str,
type: 'GET',
success: function(data){
$('#txtHint').html(data);
},
error: function(jqXHR, textStatus, errorThrown){
console.log("Status = " + textStatus);
console.log("Error = " + errorThrown);
}
});
}

Jquery Mobile 1.4.5 Popup not working?

I'm trying to use the Popup widget of Jquery Mobile 1.4.5 but I've got some problem when I try to load a external page in a Popup from a sub page. Here's my code:
Index.htm:

<ul data-role="listview">
<li>IMDB</li>
<li>Test A</li>
<li>Test B</li>
</ul>
</div><!-- /page -->
</body>
</html>
list.php:
<html>
<head>
<meta charset="utf-8">
<link rel="stylesheet" href="http://code.jquery.com/mobile/1.4.5/jquery.mobile-1.4.5.min.css" />
<script src="http://code.jquery.com/jquery-2.1.1.min.js"></script>
<script src="http://code.jquery.com/mobile/1.4.5/jquery.mobile-1.4.5.min.js"></script>
</head>
<body>
<div data-role="page">
<ul data-role="listview">
<li>Bangkok Dangerous
<li>Drive Angry
<li>Knowing
</ul>
</div>
</body>
<script language="javascript">
function loadPopup(url) {
$.ajax({
type: "GET",
url: url
}).done(function(data) {
$.mobile.activePage.append($(data)).trigger("create");
$("#popup1").popup().popup("open");
});
}
</script>
</html>
imdb.php:
<html>
<body>
<div data-role="popup" id="popup1" style="min-height:300px;width:80%;left:10%;right:10%;" class="ui-content">
Fermer
<?php
$imdbnumber = $_GET["imdbnumber"];
$movie_poster = "http://img.omdbapi.com/?apikey=xxxxxxxx&i=" . $imdbnumber . "&h=300";
$movie_details = json_decode(file_get_contents("http://www.omdbapi.com/?i=" . $imdbnumber . "&plot=full"));
echo "<div style='float:left;padding-right:20px;'><img src='" . $movie_poster . "' height=300></img></div>";
echo "<div><h3><b>" . $movie_details->Title . " (" . $movie_details->Year . ")</b></h3>" . $movie_details->Plot . "</div>";
?>
</div>
<script>
$("[data-role=popup]").enhanceWithin().popup({
afterclose: function () {
$(this).remove();
}
}).popup("open");
</script>
</body>
</html>
When I load index.htm then click on IMDB link then try to load IMDB info for one of the listed movie, it doesn't work. If I load directly list.php then my Popup is working perfectly.
Something I'm doing wrong?
Thank you!
P.S.: I've tried with Colorbox but I get the same kind of result... :-/

Ajax - Why can I not retrieve data from external PHP file?

I've been trying to create a simple grade calculator app with ajax functionality. The ajax seems to be working quite nicely, however the separate PHP file I've created 'response.php' is not GET-ting the data from the form. So it is just echoing out 'Uh oh'.
I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong here and I've been going over my code for a while. Can anyone help?

As far as I am aware you can't retrieve the data because, using the verb (GET) for your call, requires a querystring appended to the target url, this way:
xhr.open("GET","response.php?key1=value1&key2=value2...etc...");
However In my opinion would be better to use the POST verb:
xhr.open("POST","response.php", true);
then set a valid request header like:
xhr.setRequestHeader("Content-type", "application/x-www-form-urlencoded");
collect the params (your new sendAjax function):
function sendAjax() {
var values = [];
var form = document.getElementById("gradeForm");
for (var i = 0, l = form.length; i < l; i++)
{
if(form[i].type === "text")
{
values.push(form[i].name +"="+ form[i].value);
}
};
var params = values.join("&");
xhr.setRequestHeader("Content-type", "application/x-www-form-urlencoded");
xhr.send(params);
document.getElementById('gradeForm').style.display = 'none';
}
Now you can retrieve the data in the response.php page, via the superglobal $_POST
The reason response.php is unable to get the data from the form is that your AJAX isn't sending the data from the form. Unlike a form submit, AJAX won't automatically send the form - you need to set the parameters explicitly.
This is how you do ajax request, without jQuery. You can re-purpose this for your own need.
I made this work as single page script:
test.php
<?php
// Handle GET Ajax Request
if (count($_GET))
{
print_r($_GET);
exit();
}
?>
<script type="text/javascript">
// helper function - http://stackoverflow.com/a/8567149/2332336
function loadXMLDoc(targetUrl, resultDiv) {
var xmlhttp;
if (window.XMLHttpRequest) {
// code for IE7+, Firefox, Chrome, Opera, Safari
xmlhttp = new XMLHttpRequest();
} else {
// code for IE6, IE5
xmlhttp = new ActiveXObject("Microsoft.XMLHTTP");
}
xmlhttp.onreadystatechange = function() {
if (xmlhttp.readyState == 4 ) {
if(xmlhttp.status == 200){
document.getElementById(resultDiv).innerHTML = xmlhttp.responseText;
}
else if(xmlhttp.status == 400) {
alert('There was an error 400')
}
else {
alert('something else other than 200 was returned')
}
}
}
xmlhttp.open("GET", targetUrl, true);
xmlhttp.send();
}
// usage
loadXMLDoc('test.php?a=1&b=2', 'result');
</script>
<div id="result"></div>

php session with jqmobi getting destroyed on page reload

I am trying to use jqmobi with PHP where everything is working but when I try to use PHP session it's not working. First when I use jquery post then it will retrieve data from server but when I reload page then session is destroyed.
I have kept session_start() in every file but still of no use. So if anybody have worked with jqmobi and PHP, share your experience. I am posting my main index.php file:
<?php
session_start();

The code should be sufficient, however you need to find out if session_destroy or unset($_SESSION) was called else where
<?php
session_start();
$_SESSION['key'] = "value";
?>

jQuery Load isn't loading content into the div, redirects to the other page.

Ok , so I am trying to load content from a another page using JQUERY LOAD method SO THE content can appear without the page refreshing. I did that but when I click on the link below generated from PHP , it still redirects me to the other page instead of the content loading into the <div class="panel">
Below is my code
<html>
<head>
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8"/>
<head>
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8"/>

<link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="css/skins/tango/skin.css" />

jQuery(document).ready(function() {
jQuery('#mycarousel').jcarousel({

//Here is where I made the Jquery call for the div below with class "panel" but it won't load ..
<scrip type="text/javascript">

});
});
</script>
</head>

There are few errors,
1 Wrong spelling of script. scrip should be script
2 wrong syntax of id selector. $("profile") should be $("#profile")
3 loading constant string instread of current element href. load("this.href") should be
load(this.href)
Change
<scrip type="text/javascript">
$(document).ready(function(){
$("profile").click(function(){
$(".panel").load("this.href");
});
});
</script>
To
<script type="text/javascript">
$(document).ready(function(){
$("#profile").click(function(){
$(".panel").load(this.href);
});
});
</script>
